Aw SANDY, Jilly as a puppy, we send thanks. She's had a wonderful birthday. First Dorio came with the groceries. I enjoyed his arrival as well. He spent quite a bit of time with us even though working, to discuss Stephen King with me, chase Jilly and unscrew a coffee jar I couldn't manage. I was amazed how easy he did this because I just couldn't shift it. Then Mike showed up and took her out for 5 short walks because of the cold. She met her friend Scottie the Scottie and a poodle friend. Ate a whole lamb chop and a lick of icecream for lunch, played chase and grab the duster with Michael and now she's fast asleep after a truly exhausting fourth birthday. I suspect Mike will have a nap as well when he gets home.
Sorry to read you might have maybe picked up the children's bug and hope you are soon better and therefore free of a doctor visit Sandy.
Needless to say today's 14th February was one of the best ever for yours truly,
    Anne.

I’m ready for bed but thought I’d check in first. A miserable day yet again so we 3 got cold and wet on our walk on the moors where halfway round I tripped on nothing more than a stick stuck in the mud and ended up on my knees but stopped myself going further by putting my hands out. Having just shaken off aches from the conservatory door bashing me in the back and head on Tuesday my shoulders are complaining again. Hopefully the 3rd thing likely to happen will be gentle!
Just managed to clean out the hen house before heavy rain arrived heralding a storm for the weekend that has warnings of risk to life. Apparently a man was killed in last week’s storm while out walking his dog so I’ll take that as a warning and not go far with the pooches.

Happy birthday to Jilly who it seems was thoroughly spoilt today... quite right too! Anne I’ve got one of those bottle top and jar openers that has every size within its handles and copes with the tightest of lids. I’d be stuck without it I know because sometimes I can’t even open a packet of rice or crisps without a struggle.

Sandy, I’m guessing the Brussels sprouts too and hope you don’t have to go through anything intrusive.

I’m yawning and the dogs snoring plus I’m over a page and likely to lose my post if I try to look back so will get to bed. Happy Valentines everyone. ❤️❤️

I've got two super dooper jar and bottle openers and normally they work a treat, but nothing would shift the top of that coffee JACKIE. Along comes enormous Dorio and he opens it with ease! I wouldn't like him as an enemy! He's a gentle giant, he put the lid back on and hung around for me to open it by myself in case he'd screwed it back on too tight! Michael says it's a good job I'm going to live with him because I might starve otherwise what with all these child proof tops. Definitely getting weaker with age!

I was horrified to hear of your fall! That's exactly what I did on concrete and ended up with my badly set deformed right wrist. My drawing and writing wrist, grrrrrr. Glad you fell forward on soft ground but be careful because it's so easily done, a breakage.

Probably the Brussels sprouts SANDY. They are very good at acting like dynamite if you have a little problem!

Well Jackie is in dreamland, Jackies pets are in dreamland, and Jilly Bean is in dreamland after her energetic day. The paws are twitching on the sofa next to me with little yips every so often. No doubt dreaming of lamb chops. I'm afraid we do rather spoil her!
Sorry to say goodbye to St Valentine and his Day,
    Anne.

Indeed we had a beautiful dier/dance with live msc and many of our serversplanned a dance/entertainment for us. EVeryone wore red, and it was very festive. Dessert was a chocolate fountain with scads of items to dip. I brought up half of my prime rib to eat Sunday evening.
Jilly Bean, a very Happy Birthday to you! Your Mom gives us many hours of pleasure reading about yor escapades!
JACKIE, someone is using your email name, which Comcast sent to junk mail. Your falls worry me, dear friend. How is your balance?
sorry about your cold, SANDY; it sort of comes with te territory. ANd I felt the Valentine part of your relationship with Babe would be meaningless once he made his choice.
I can't stay awake at all, so sending love to ALL.

Buzz, I'm sorry my computer has one of those malware items sending out links but glad it gets junked by yours. My nephew's computer does the same to mine. AVG runs a regular check and I know my nephew is a computer expert because it's his profession so I feel if he can't stop it I've got no chance! Storm Dennis has arrived and I'll spend time later running checks but thanks for letting me know. Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with my balance in fact I'm more agile now than a year ago thanks to hip replacements. The first knock came from a door swinging in a gust behind me so no warning to get out of the way and yesterday's twig stuck upright in the mud was so small it was easy to miss seeing because I was walking quickly and keeping an eye on the pooches. Nothing else to trip me in a 10 mile radius but my foot found the one little thing!! These things happen but the aches are easing and lump on my skull getting smaller.

It seemed best to only take George round the block this morning as Betty's not happy in wind and rain. Also I thought if I have to move quickly to avoid falling debris Betty would likely panic so we'd all get flattened! I think we made it just in time because although we both got soaked the wind has picked up and we are expecting 5 inches of rain to fall..... splish-splash!!
A good day for wallpaper stripping.

Happy Saturday everyone. Hope Sandy is feeling better.

Good morning all, still freeze your buns off here, but they should thaw as the day wears on. Up to minus one after noon.

If my ex sent me a valentine card I'd jump on the next plane to England and hide out on the rain swept moors!!!!! Perish the thought !!!!!

I'm having a coffee after a week of looking at the unopened jar.

This weekend is "family weekend" with Monday off for everyone. This means we will probably see Mike again AND Mark and Mary Jo. They will be taking off on the cruise ship soon. They do this most years because Mary Jo although Portuguese was born in darkest Africa and has an aversion to snow, ice, frost and all the other good stuff that comes with living in a winter wonderland since the age of eleven.

The Bean is still in my bed sleeping with the tip of her nose showing under the duvet. Now she's a mature four year old I guess she isn't up to partying so much!

Anne.....me neither, yawn. Where's the mug of coffee!

    Good morning ❤️❤️

It is above zero today!! And sunny!! 🌞🌞 lovely change.

Nothing exciting here today. Staying home, gathering up some things for church tomorrow, reading and working on Easter cards. Well, the fronts at least.

Buzz, what a lovely Valentine. 💖💘💖 Thanks. Lovely event once again at your community. I doubt I could have walked away from a chocolate fountain.

Jackie, darn, several accidents! That’s enough, let’s forget about things coming in 3’s. No more. Really!!! Five inches of rain? Oh my gosh, if that was here, the streets would be flooded and my sump pump would be working gallantly to try to keep my basement dry.

Anne, goodness, a holiday weekend on the heels of a perfect Valentine’s Day. Wonderful! I hope you and the Bean enjoy all the company. And I also hope you have some warmer weather headed your way.

Sandy, how are you feeling today? Keep taking care of yourself.

Patsy, how are you and your family? I trust your weather is much more temperate than most other reports here, except for South Florida of course.

I am going to sip more of my tea before it gets cold. It was too hot but I think it is just right now. Hey, I have never seen a traveling tea set before. Anyone?

    Many hugs and best wishes.

Happy Saturday! :) It is warmer here as well but a little snow is forecasted for this afternoon.
I am hoping to go with Joe to Church but if it is snowing I might change it until tomorrow.
The good thing about staying home for all these days is riding my bike and watching what I eat. My tummy seems better today but I did not eat any brussel sprouts or salad. I also didn't eat my yogurt this morning so it a process of limitation.

Lin, I have never seen a traveling tea set but then again I am not a tea drinker. Enjoying making those cards, the lucky people to get them I hope appreciate all your hard work.

Anne, I wasn't expecting a card but maybe just a happy valentine's day on the phone. I stopped sending him cards because the last one I sent he didn't get and I think his son threw it out. Enjoy your time with family and Jilly, I am hoping everyone is well by Monday and we can do something with the kiddos.

Jackie, I am sure you have done this but did you change your password on your email? I am sure 5 inches of rain would shut most of our streets down and do some major flooding of homes. Stay safe and dry.

Buzz, thanks for the healing words, not a cold but tummy issues. Much better this morning so as stated above I think it is diet related.

Patsy, hope all is well with you, I believe you are also getting hit with lots of rain.

    Have a great day everyone.

Well, everyone sounds better tonight. I'm embarrassed reading yesterday's post from me as my spelling is atrocious! It's my typing, as my fingers are quite numb, and I cannot tell whether I've used enough pressure! We all laugh wryly here regarding the wonderful myths about The Golden Years; we all seem to have the same symptoms, no matter how well we prepared!
I received Facebook pictures from my DS and DinL from the top of the world! They rode the cog railway to the top of the Jungfrau mountain after a couple of days in Switzerland. Mike an I celebrated our 1st anniversary up there and it was something I'll remember all my life! I'm glad they are making the most of their last month in Europe.
I got to bed around 7 AM this morning as I became involved in making something special for my first "grandchild" wedding. Especially since I cannot travel up to Virginia in April, I wanted everything "just so", and appropriate for a gay wedding (no Man and wife errors!). I think I finally hit the right card and then, of course, the envelope had to match! So tonight I will make up for the sleep.
JACKIE, when I hit my head last spring (from the fall backward) management nurses insisted I go to the hospital to check for a concussion or other problems. My hematoma was huge! And black and blue face lasted at least 4 months!
Happy SANDY is better, and advice re: changing passwords is excellent!
Elegant travel tea set, LIN. Never saw one before. Where are you finding these sets?
ANNE, the thought of tiny Jilly under your warm duvet is striking my funny bone! I miss mine, which I lugged home from Norway many years ago, thinking Florida would be too warm, so I gave it to my son. The air conditioning proved me wrong!
Is PATSY OK? Haven't seen her post for several days. Heope I'v e not missed anyone; please forgive me for a waning memory! ave a good sleep, y'all!

Storm Dennis is passing and I’m waiting to see if the rain is going to ease before I take George and Betty out. The wind was so noisy yesterday I turned up the radio volume and either worked on my jigsaw or read. The poor little hens are bedraggled so I feel very sorry for them but hopefully I can lay down another cover of straw in their run later.

Thanks Sandy, I haven’t changed my email password in a long time so will see if that helps. 😘

Lin, travelling tea sets were often used by army officers on campaigns who liked to take home comforts with them but they probably go back a lot further when explorers where away for months at a time. I don’t know but imagine they pinched the idea from ancient Chinese dynasties who were drinking tea hundreds of years before it arrived in Britain. Take a look at antique tea caddies some time. There are some beautiful designs, most with lock and key so the servants couldn’t dip in for their own use when tea was a very expensive commodity!

Unfortunately 5” of rain does mean flooded roads and homes so the army is out and about in worst hit areas in Yorkshire and Cumbria. I’m generally safe here because living on high ground means I avoid too much standing water... it moves down to fields below my garden. The coastal towns are getting a bashing though because the storm coincides with Spring high tides.

The pooches are becoming restless so I’ll see if I can get them out... looks like we’re going to get wet though! 🌧⛈

BUZZ, wonderful to read you sounding like your old self. And JACKIE not flooded in her cozy home. Pleased indeed to read that! We all had a tea caddy didn't we in our loose tea days AND a tea strainer.
I'm running late so back later!

Happy Sunday! :) I finally went outside yesterday and the fresh air felt good. The mom and kiddos are all feeling better but she did say the kids still have bad coughs. I thought about going to visit them today but think I will just wait until Tuesday and hope the coughs are better. I feel good and might try a yogurt today to start testing different foods.
So I have a bit of a dilemma and would like some advice. I had made plans with three of my friends to go to an early birthday lunch on February 24. We go to lunch and after to do some gambling at a slot machine place, so I don't get home until near ten since I am the driver and have to take everyone home. I sent Lisa the info so she knew I couldn't sit that day if needed.
She texted me last night and said that is the day Rob, Bryanna's dad set up with Bryanna to celebrate her 25th birthday. She said the kids are going to decorate and she had hoped I could join them but understood if I couldn't. Of course I want to be there so I texted one of the friends and asked if we could change the birthday lunch. The dates I suggested she was not available so since she is in Florida on vacation I told her we could discuss it Monday or Tuesday when she returns. Should I feel guilty in cancelling? Isn't family first?
I am sure I know the answer but would like your opinion.

I a glad this is my biggest problem in life right now, seems silly but again what are friends for?

    Love you gals,
    Sandy

In my books, family always come first. Family are usually with us in the long haul and especially with grands in the picture. Your friends will understand SANDY and I'm sure they themselves would choose family. Of course if you have a long standing friend (my friend Flo comes to mind) most families consider them also family and invite them along as well. Anne.

Happy Sunday everyone! We have a bit of sunshine and it isn’t too bad as far as temperatures go. Yea! Still drippy out. Prissy Miss Katie will be doing her in and out game. Towels are at the ready...she will bring in mud and sticks and her favorite ROCKS!

I wrote a lengthy post yesterday and promptly clicked on “done” instead of reply. So maddening. I didn’t have any big announcements or news. Just chit-chat.

Today I hope to chat with our son and maybe our daughter, Andrea. As I often say, our kids really do not realize how important regular visits with them are to us. It is the common complaint among our older friends. We don’t babysit and we are a very small family. Next week we have our annual physicals. An ordeal I dread and I wish I had the same attitude as Sandy. I need to feel the medical community is there to help instead of torture me with uncomfortable tests.

Sandy I think you said that lunch was planned with friends. Friends understand and want to help. I bet they would want you to be involved with the big family celebration. They are your friends, after all. Reschedule your lunch and gambling excursion. All will work out perfectly. Don’t stress or fret. Guilt is usually a wasted emotion.

Jackie: our weather has been odd this year. High tides, lots of rain, medimum temps, some wind. No really big storms yet. Winter isn’t over yet. I think there will be more to come. I do worry about our neighbors chickens. There are coyotes and other wildlife roaming the area. The chickens have a nice large fenced yard and what looks like a secure little nesting house. I think it is best not to get too nosy about neighbors activities unless it appears disaster is possible.

Lin: our son asked us not to sign on to Facebook. I am sure he sees me as the family silly goose. People around here have been targeted with various schemes and he would worry every time I logged into Facebook. But I would love to see notes and photos posted there. I was hit by the “grandmother” scam a few years ago as well as other scams were attempted.

Must run, Katie and I are due for a toweling off appointment.

SANDY, I recall how much you talked about Bryanna when she was growing up, taking ballet, etc, and how special she was in your life. 25 is a big birthday year, and you probably will receive blessings from your friends and a quick agreement to change their date, so you will feel no guilt at all! That's what friends are for! I'll gladly bless any joy you can have with your family AND friends!
JACKIE, I did worry about you when I read stories about storm Dennis. I hope you and your little furry friends are all well and comfortable.
ANNE, I haven't meant to worry you all, but I'm afraid I have, and am happy to say nothing seems worse and several things feel better, so that's Senior Progress!!! I'm pretty realistic about the process of aging and it is what it is, and attitude adjustments need to be made fairly often. I must admit denial does not seem to keep aging from happening! However, we do seem to be aging later than previous generations! I'm glad you are pleased for me!
PATSY. missed you and am glad to see you back. The lost posts were MY specialty, I thought!
LIN, I wish I had your patience and ability to search the things as you do. I really do not utilize Facebook. Just to videocall my son!
Saw a movie I never heard of today in place of Little Women. Ford-Ferrari, which I never heard of but I'd give it a try and I sat all the way through, as I always loved sports cars. I loved the skill driving competitions (gymkhanas) more than racing but somehow I always enjoy these movies and I was immersed in this true story! Now I will have a bite to eat and get to bed at a reasonable time, Although I want to watch "How America Eats" at 9 on MSNBC! How our new immigration policies affect our eating today. Enjoy the evening...

Good morning dear sneaker girls. Yesterday was supposed to be very busy, and then everyone here sort of collapsed in a big heap and it wasn't busy at all! Of course, things have moved to today instead and I'm in a rush once more!

Isn't it enlightening BUZZ how we notice bits and pieces of body parts we didn't take much notice of before become more prominent as we age. The back of ones thumbs suddenly ache, the knee joint creaks, the back of ones neck clicks, the nose suddenly needs wiping and so forth. Almost research with us elders suddenly aware of anatomy. I look at tennis players leaping over nets, burly scots chucking logs, rugby players crawling out of tangled bodies and I shake the old head (if it isn't too painful) and think, "ah kiddies, one day............. fortunately we weren't given the gift of foresight.

But BUZZ you are feeling better and that is good news indeed. So happy for you.

PATSY, if our children sometimes forget us in the rough and tumble of life aren't you and I lucky to have our Katie and Jilly to make us feel loved and wanted, even if we have to endure duster pulling and towel drying in the process. Eventually our human family members show up on the doorstep to eat us out of house and home! JACKIE is even luckier, TWO dogs, a pussycat AND the chicks. Not to mention two brothers in the mix.

The good news is we aren't drying our houses out and walking around in waders although it might be nice to be carried into a boat by a big handsome fireman! If I was wading in England I guess every part of me would be aching from the rising damp!

Well Mike is going to eat me out of house and home pretty soon. I foresee a life ahead of feeding Mike and Jilly Bean.

Have a super day dear Sneakers and I won't think of the washing up when the laddo departs.
    Anne 🙃♥️🐶♥️

Happy Monday! :) Expecting some rain today but I might go out and do some errands. I met a friend for a drink yesterday so it was good to get out. Still having some tummy issues so I am glad I get my physical next month. I am really starting to think is IBS but not sure how they diagnose that. Tried some yogurt this morning and will see what happens. Maybe I will just stop eating all together. lol

Anne, does that mean everyone came to visit but everyone took naps??? Did Mike stay the night? I am confused. lol I do wish I had a kitten or a puppy to keep me company but it just wouldn't be fair to them as I am not home a lot. :(

Buzz, yes, I practically raised Bryanna as she was at my house everyday and spent more night with me than her mother. She even registered at school with my address. We are very close so I did cancel the lunch so I could celebrate her special day with her dad, Lisa and the kiddos. <3

Patsy, your son is probably right, so much junk on Facebook but I keep connected with my family through Facebook. I either hide or delete things I don't want to see. I love seeing pictures of my family so to me it is a good media.

Thank you all for your advice and I did appreciate the feedback. Have a good day.

Hello. A typical Monday with laundry, bills, and the like. I got a new paper shredder and tried it out. It is fantastic!! Also working on some paper cutting for my cards and there’s a book looking at me. I would like to get deeper into the mystery.

Okay, I love Facebook and so far have had no problems. I keep the highest privacy settings I can figure out, and do not give out much personal information. It is the only place I keep in touch with many people. Just doing my best.

Sandy, I think Anne meant that all the plans yesterday fell through so all were pushed along to today. Correct me if I am wrong Anne. I saw that you were out yesterday. Glad you had some fun. I hope you get your tummy straightened out without medical intervention. I eat many hard to digest foods such as raw cabbage, and onions, cooked Brussels sprouts, and many gas producers such as broccoli, cauliflowers, beans and for me all types of garlic. But I just muddle along and have hot tea and plain yogurt or a plain baked potato when things get a little nasty.

Buzz, you do have the most wonderful entertainment. Wahoo! My entertainment last evening was to wait for the 10pm PBS showing of a Maigret episode. The ones with Rowan Atkins (aka Mr. Bean). I don’t have any sort of recording device so my choices were 10pm last evening or 11pm on Thursday evening. Since each episode is about an hour and a half the earlier time was best for me. If I had the stamina to stay up late every evening, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Patsy, best to do what works for you and if Facebook is not one of them, so be it. Hope your stack of muddy towels is not too tall! Hi Katie....

Anne, I hope you have a great day with your family.

    Hugs.

Another post lost! And a new page popped up so I dare not go back I do recall ANNE poetically describing every ailment I now have developed, including a nose that drips continually as I eat!
I knew SANDY would choose the right thing!
And love LIN's 3 Richard's Inn, so cozy and such an ancient-looking narrow street no auto could navigate!
I'd better get a bit of food and much more water in me, as I threw off my entire day with a very late start. And being so slow is not much help!

Hello sneakers! Apologies for not checking in yesterday but the day flew with a variety of tasks to be achieved then, just as I settled down for the evening with a plan to post, a BBC documentary about Amazon came on the tv and I was mesmerized! Goodness, it's amazing how much time and effort the company has put into monitoring everything, and I mean everything, we do. Someone used the Freedom of Information Act to ask for the data Amazon has on her through her shopping habits and it seems they also monitor where we are when we look at their site, never mind making a purchase but then also what site we visited before we logged on to them and where we go afterwards... and I thought Alexa was the only spy in the camp!! No wonder its founder is a multi billionaire and probaly watching what I'm typing this minute. :) I expect most of you know this already but it was an eye opener to me, how badly their staff are treated, how they squeeze small businesses into oblivion, their front door monitoring systems... the list is endless! SO, something I was going to buy on their site this morning I am now researching to pick up at a local shop.

Today began in glorious sunshine so I was out early to get some groceries then, because it was by then raining I walked the pooches round the block before going to visit my friend Les. He's 94 and remarkably well and still bowls and wins matches in spite of being almost blind. George and Betty both sat on his lap with Betty doing her best to push George off! He sent me home with 3 large bags of shredded paper to use as bedding in the hen house so the chooks will be delighted.
Patsy, the neighbours in the property attached to me bought hens for their 9 year old about 8 years ago that soon became neglected and poorly so it broke my heart to see the poor things suffering. Their house and fencing soon began to rot and fall down so I was sure a fox could easily get in to kill them although miraculously that never happened, probably because they didn't live long anyway. In the end I had to stop observing or thinking too much about their sad little lives so appreciate your worries about the neighbouring hens.

Lin, Polperro is just a few miles away heading south, in fact if a couple of hills weren't in the way I'd see the village from my cottage. It's certainly quaint and best visited this time of year before it fills with tourists. Take a look at Clovelly if you haven't already, in Devon and a bit further away but somewhere that definitely gets the lungs and muscles working overtime walking to the harbour and back! :o

Must get on with some housework and make a couple of phone calls. Have a good day everyone, especially those I've missed here.

"Why Amazon knows so much about you". BBC. I've been trying to read this, but it repeatedly closes down on me after a few paragraphs. I've never used Amazon and I won't, but it's sad to see yet another store chain close across Canada and all because of these greedy companies. I think we are most definitely heading for a recession. A leading worldwide bank is sacking 30,000 employees. Fasten your seat belts girls.

Sorry, but I do love Amazon and Alexa. I love that I don't have to pay for shipping as my son has me on his prime account. I love that they deliver in two days and returns are so easy in my area. I love Alexa for handling my lights and for keeping my grocery list for me just by telling her what to put on it. You can shut the microphone off but I have nothing to hide so I don't really care. Sine I hate going to malls and shopping in general Amazon is my friend.

Anne, yes, many little stores are closing as well as some of our big department stores but most people I know prefer shopping online as it is easier and convenient. I am an optimist and hopefully there will not be a recession but only time will tell.

Jackie, Clovelly is absolutely beautiful. I have been to Europe but have never been to England. My granddaughter was there when in high school for New Year's Day parade with other pom pom girls. It was very exciting for her and for me.

Well now that I probably have upset some of you I will bid you with a good day.

    Good day

Jackie, thanks for the link. What a beautiful village and I adore the garden! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A day with some sunshine is lovely. We have sunshine today but it is much colder than our rainy couple of days. I think we will see snow and cold temperatures again a bit later in the week. It is already cold enough for me with a very chilly wind!

Anne, who is closing in Canada? I did not get that news.

Meanwhile, it is a mixed thing isn’t it? Many small companies sell through Amazon and get much more traffic to their web sites as Amazon recommends them based on what customers are looking for. I have noticed many companies I have ordered from online, direct from the company, now have a presence on Amazon and some no longer want to take the orders directly, they funnel you through Amazon.

    Love the puppy Jackie!

Beautiful glass teapot and cups. Ah.......

Oh, I did some errands this morning as I decided to make a few Mardi Gras cards. That is next Tuesday so must power on! I am going to the library in a little while as we are starting a new puzzle this afternoon. The book club that is normally the last Tuesday afternoon of the month is meeting today and they are slated to have a phone call with the author of this month’s club selection. Sorry to miss that but the librarian at my close to home library has been so kind to me over the years that I feel I should be there. Particularly as she asked me to choose this puzzle from the options she researched.

    Hugs dear Sneakers.
