Well, Jill and I had an interesting day yesterday on our annual "change of scenery", she supervising and me completely changing the living room, all in the hope that one short legged dog will jump on the sofa arm and peer out the window at Harry. The worst was moving the book cases for I have quite a lot of books, but after an all day stint and copious cups of tea and coffee we finally sat down to watch the TV last evening. I really like the change. It took Jilly a while to adjust to the sofa move but she's finally jumping on it and I'm sure she will discover Harry eventually!

I've been naughty. After Janice's enthusiastic report of her two M&S night gowns I've ordered one as well instead of waiting for February. Thought I'd get on while it is 15% off. Hurrah, I can ditch one of my present night wears, the sort you dread going to the hospital in! The sort you wouldn't want ANYONE to go to hospital in!

We have glorious sunshine today and glittering, sparkling, new white snow.
Have yourselves a good day friends, oh and yes, I too think little Max is an old soul. Lovely, lucky, little babe.
    Anne.

Happy Tuesday! :) Cleaning girl coming around noon so I have time to get caught up on computer before taking my shower. We have sunshine with temps to reach 31 so not a bad day. I did not make the phone calls yesterday but will try again today. That is about all that is planned, not very exciting life is it?

Anne, next time please ask your boys to move the book cases, not a job that you should be doing. I am stubborn like you and attempt to move things I shouldn't but better to be safe than sorry. I bet Jilly will love looking out the window as long as she doesn't bark at poor Harry.

Lin, sorry about your friend, it is always sad when we lose someone. You are so kind to everyone, I am sure you are very appreciated. Have you every tried Red Box for movies? They are only a $1.50 to rent current movies.

Jackie, I love the song Vincent, it brings back many memories from when I was younger. Your description of your walks with George are always so visual and sound wonderful.

Buzz, again I have to say that your community sounds wonderful. Always something to do and always something good. A perfect way to live as one gets older.

Time to eat and then shower, have a great day.

I have an appointment today with my eye doctor. Of course, it will involve another shot in the eye. I must admit, these never really hurt, it is all physiological. Seeing the needle etc. etc. what a wimp, I am!

I have been working a fun paper mache’ easter bunny. Not sure why or for who. It is one of those projects that I do to jump start a creative period. The after holiday slump can be a dark depressing time if I don’t dive into something immediately. My writers group is currently scolding me about my almost completed chapter book for older kids. I tell you these folks are merciless! They accept no excuses. Finish the project, make the corrections and edits, listen closely to any criticism, change as needed, begin the submissions . It is a great thing to have an engrossing life affirming project.

John is looking forward to the Super Bowl, the academy awards, and a couple of new movies out on dvd. He is also investigating replacing our French doors to the deck. The double wall glass blew their seals in a big wind storm. They are cloudy in between the glass layers. If we get the right kind, it can have a doggie door installed and that will make Life much easier. Letting Katie in and out consumes a lot of our day. Then we still play ball and whatever Katie-game is required.

We have sunshine! Temps are in the 40s!

I spent the better part of today trying to get in touch with my dear DIL on Messenger, after receiving an email saying she would video call me at 9 AM (my time) from Germany about visiting for my June birthday. I was up at 6 brushing my teeth, and ate at 7 so it wouldn't interfere with the call, and at 9:15 I called her---no answer, etc, etc, etc until around 11, when I finally emailed my son (thank goodness for his iPhone) and he called her and she called me and we had a lovely chat! Crux--- they will be in Orlando just before my birthday for a conference, and would like me to meet them there for the week so she and I can run around and have fun while DS is attending meetings during the day. Dream on! She understands I do not travel any longer, but said she would drive down, pick me up and drive me up to Orlando! Which is very kind and thoughtful and I love them dearly, BUT--- I really cannot sit for hours in a car! Golden years! So possibly I will reserve an apartment for them for the end of their trip so I can see them a couple of days before they fly out to Bend to visit his daughter! Who ever imagined years ago life would become so complicated?
I just saw an interesting bit online concerning a possible break in the cost of healthcare ,---"The news from Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan Chase stirred excitement and concern in the health industry that the companies could bring their clout to containing costs in the employer-sponsored insurance market." According to the Washington Post, they are considering getting together to form a non-profit insurance company! Warren Buffett should have run for president years ago!
JACKIE, That song was in the background at the end of the movie and I forgot the words. Sad and lovely!!!
PATSY, I know too well what you go through as you near the end of a project---unfinished! Do you handle the outside pressure well, or do you resent it? It sounds as if you accept it well as creative criticism!
LIN, sad to lose friends, but I have become quite philosophical about life and its expectations! Too bad his wife has Parkinsons, as she will need help as time goes by.
SANDY, dear, it may be a blessing to have nothing important happening! A bit of breathing space for you to quietly enjoy!
I was shocked to find MFP had me at Day 1 yesterday, since I believe I have not missed a day. All my posts are prior to midnight so I got it fixed immediately. No questions asked, lol!
Perhaps I can squeeze in an hour of sunshine this afternoon???

Good morning, off to Tai Chi in a little while. It warmed up last night and the wind died back so was glad I waited so long in the evening to take out the trash and to retrieve my mail. It is cloudy here today and so we missed all the super moon, blue moon, blood moon hoopla. I will look for photos and videos later.

Yesterday I arrived at Mah Jongg with the treats and ready to celebrate our birthday girl. But another lady was sitting with her coat on and was kind of hunched up. Then I heard the story, a cautionary tale for me! She was dusting her house on Sunday and reached over to steady herself on a small table and that table tipped and in the process she was hit in the head. Oh my gosh, the left temple area down to her eye was swollen and what bruising! She went to urgent care and was sent home. Monday she was playing indoor tabletop shuffleboard and she stepped back to get out of another player’s way and stumbled over her own clog and in the process she took a hard fall. She hit the back of her head but in trying to stop the fall she put her arm out and her wrist snapped. OMG!!! She went to urgent care again. She had a cast but the arm was swelling and she was miserable. While we were trying to play she went into the store next to us and got all her hair cut off (cannot fix it) and was waiting for a call from a hand specialist as she was to have an appointment to see that doc ASAP. Today she has an appointment with her regular doctor. She was in pain and miserable. Ack!!!! Stay upright stay upright!

So Tai Chi for me today for sure.

I finished reading the book club selection. Yippee! As my reward I started to watch Loving Vincent rather than watching the State of the Union. I don’t care about a plot, I really don’t care about anything but watching the images move and change. I adore that. I am glad I bought it as I am bewitched.

Buzz, you are a persistent and long suffering individual. I am glad you finally got hooked up with family and have thought of a way to visit with them. Orlando is quite far away when riding in a car. I do hope they will come to you.

Wishing everyone a very fine day.

    Hugs.

Our walk this morning was going well until the darkest of clouds came in our direction and threw painful hail at us, so much so that little Scruff hunched herself up and refused to walk but at least George's winter coat protected him. As usual my brain told me I could do more than my body was prepared so on my suggestion we left the level track we were walking and climbed down a wet and muddy bank to get more shelter further down. I ended up climbing backwards and holding on to tufts of grass.... not at all graceful but at least no falls! My internet purchases suddenly seem to be having silly problems which is no more than annoying. A small purchase of a new lamp switch went array so the item didn't arrive and the seller has ignored my requests first for information then a refund. Amazon have now reimbursed me which is something. Then this morning a box of floor tile samples arrived so all excited I opened up ready to place on the garden room floor to see which I preferred only to discover two of the same colours were sent in error so after a long and therefore expensive phone call I've been promised the missing one will be sent tomorrow. There's definitely little customer service these days! One impressive thing from our cash strapped NHS... a letter from the Ophthalmology deparment about my referral for a specialist assessment of my cataracts, now that was quick!

Lin ~ Chatting to my friend on Skype yesterday she told me how she fell on an icy surface a few weeks ago and although covered in bruises, didn't break anything so I said that has to be a positive thing otherwise it's a downward spiral. Just as your Mah Jongg lady discovered, these things can happen in a second and when we least expect.

Buzz ~ That's sad your family can't visit you since you don't feel you can cope with a trip to Orlando. Hopefully a solution will be worked out.

Poor George is drying off yet again after this morning's trip to the shower room and unfortunately I fear he will have to endure after every walk for weeks to come because although the temperature has fallen considerably in the last couple of hours, rain showers continue to scud across our skies.

    Enjoy your day everyone.

Oh heavens a day of accidents! We are in the woes as well. Not me, except from a sleepless night and washing of bedding and towels. Jilly started throwing up at midnight which wasn't nice but I really panicked when she started coughing blood and mucus. It stopped at 1:30 and I decided to leave the vet visit until this morning figuring the emergency clerk would only put her in a cage until the doc showed up. Anyway. I could see she was feeling better because her flattened ears started to come upright again and she fell asleep until 7:00 am. Not me though!
I think the original vomit was from a treat she was given (packet now in the garbage) after a slight previous episode. The blood was probably from her throat from the retching. Sorry about this but dog owners might benefit. Dark blood like coffee granules is the most serious. Heart worm causes fresh blood, but she's on tablets AND it's winter, so I figure retching. Marks on call just in case!

Meanwhile I really feel for the poor lady who broke her wrist. I broke every bone in my right wrist and all bones set wrong. 25 deg off. Hence a deformity in my writing hand. Please tell her to get it checked regularly as it heals LIN. I never was a Vincent Van Gogh in the first place and my wrist definitively put paid to fame and fortune! Or at least that's what I tell myself!

Poor George. He needs wellies, a raincoat that fastens under the belly (Jill's got one) and one of those umbrellas that attach to the head. I feel for the little man having all those baths! I feel for JACKIE as well having to give all those baths!

I hope everyone stays safe today. We are staying home, it looks treacherous outside beyond the drive!
    Anne.

Happy Wednesday! :) Pleasant day here for my lunch with Joe and later bingo. I do have some grocery shopping to do but will probably wait until after my meeting tomorrow. Now that I added an X1 box to my bedroom TV I have been getting in my bed earlier to watch TV which makes me sleepy so I have been going to sleep by midnight which is great for me.

Anne, I do hope Jilly is feeling better, there is nothing worse than hearing or seeing a dog throw up. We give Daisy heart worm pills and flea oil 12 months a year, our vet said better to be safe than sorry. Jilly might be like Daisy and can't handle treats unless they are home made. I know you will take her to the vet if she gets lethargic but keep us informed.

Jackie, sorry you got belted by hail and poor Scruff sounds like he was really scared. Your visual again of you climbing down the slope makes me smile, sorry. I hope you gave that seller a bad review for not answering or giving you a refund. Darn, I am waiting to see the tile, but tomorrow is another day.

Lin, my goodness that poor lady, I do hope she will be okay and the doctors are sure she doesn't have a concussion. Falling is my biggest fear and with the last fall I had I am so grateful nothing was damaged.

Buzz, I am sure your son and DIL will come to visit you after you explain how hard it is to travel. I just booked a trip to go see my daughter in May, in fact for Mother's Day. I am looking forward to spending time with her alone as the last two trips I brought someone with me.

Patsy, glad you are getting some sunshine. My DIL from Portland is coming here on Monday.
She has suffered with migraines for her whole life, she is now 54. She was referred to a hospital here in Chicago that deals with headaches so after all the tests and treatments she has been through she is hoping they can help her without surgery. I pray they do.

    Hope your day is wonderful.

SANDY, I don't know if this helps, but my really bad migraines stopped at age 56 and menopause. Hope this gives a glimmer of hope to your poor DIL. When one has a full blown migraine, throwing up, flashing lines and lights, dizziness, pain, etc, one simply wants to die. Sympathy sent to the poor girl. Anne.

Don't worry Sandy, I had a good laugh at myself too as I clambered down that bank but of course with rain, sleet and hail in my face AND laughing it was difficult to see where I was stepping!! The annoying thing about the two tile samples is the grey that arrived is rather boring although they are nice and thick and the missing one is supposed to be lighter so I don't think I'll like it any more but on principle thought I should get what I ordered!

Anne ~ When George passed a lot of blood at the rear along with diarrhoea a couple of years ago the vet told me it was irritation and although looks frightening can easily be sorted. Hopefully you are right and Jilly's throat or maybe gut, responded in a similar way. These pets can be such a worry when not well can't they and of course it's always nighttime, bank holidays or Sundays it happens!!

Would you believe, after quite a pleasant couple of hours sunshine I decided to pop into town for a few items but on the way back my car beeped at me to let me know the temperature had plummeted down to 3c and the next thing the hail crashed on to the car roof. A now dry and clean George had come along for the ride so when I pulled up outside my garage we sat until it moved away leaving a covering of ice everywhere! Never mind, home now and the fire lit so it can do what it wants outside.

Hello everyone! So happy to see everyone this morning.really! I had my dr. Appointment with the eye specialist. All is well. No shot required. Vision is good. Once again I must expound on the virtue of these eye supplements I take twice a day. They are called “Preservision.” If you have an eye problem, look into them online. They could help certain eye conditions.

I crinked my hip and knee coming up the front steps. Now this is really something! These are sturdy, low steps, installed just for me. What? I am now slowly doing some stretches and limited exercises. You all are right about it only takes one tiny misstep and things can go horribly wrong. Being a person who often does things in an awkward manner these missteps are a constant danger.

Anne: I am impressed at your calm. If Katie was vomiting blood, both John and I would be running around with our hair on fire, calling the vet, screaming for an instant appointment. When Katie had blood drops in her urine, we were at the vets office no more than 30 minutes later. Her UTI was a concern but propably was not quite life threatening at that moment. I hope dear little Jilly recovers soon. It is true about there not being anything as awful as hearing your babies in distress...human or fur babies.

The rest of my post just evaporated...I think they are telling me to get to work instead of yapping on the Internet!

Just to let you know that after sleeping all morning Jilly woke up about lunchtime and I cooked her a scrambled egg, recommended. It worked. She mopped it up and then ate her homemade chicken dinner. She then played "tug the sock" and is now sitting on the sofa next to me wondering what all the fuss is about. Apart from a slight pong in the chops area - Jilly's BACK. Me, I'm frazzled after two hours sleep and I'm thinking about a nap.
I don't know SANDY how a migraine would respond to a hysterectomy! Is your DIL on estrogen for example? Which sort of mimics life with the cycle I believe? I just know my migraines vanished at that point and hot flashes where preferable!
Oh, Janice just phoned. She's popping in to show me her new nighties,
    Bye,
    Anne.

Same here. I had debilitating migraines for decades and took some very strong medication for them but still ended up at home in a dark room throwing up often. Could not stand bright lights, scents etc. ALL went away totally with menopause. Thank the Lord.

Glad you are okay now LIN. That was me in your own description.

Descriptions of hail, cold rain, wet anything , are giving me goosebumps! About an hour before my haircut appointments, I sensed all was not well, and sure enough, within 10 minutes my throat was scratchy, I couldn't breathe, every joint ached. So I cancelled everything, called down to the nurse who arranged to have dinner brought up (I requested chicken soup, chicken soup, and more chicken soup!)... My hair will have to continue to look wild, I reserved guest apartment for June ( I can always cancel it). and since my eyes and nose are running , I'm about to log off and get under my quilt! Colds come and go but SANDY, I agree with your respect for the dangers of falling! Bodies really don't recover as they did when you were younger! Good night everybody; stay well!

A pleasant walk this morning with no hail or even rain in sight and once home I opened up the doors to the garden room and bliss, it's finally warm out there rather than feeling I'm stepping into a freezer.... drying out nicely.

Lots to do today, mostly housework, so I'll just say I'm so pleased Jilly is back on form but so sorry Buzz, it seems the bugs you mentioned were around you have found you. You know better than anyone how to take care of yourself and certainly chicken soup sounds the best option so stay under that duvet and ensure someone checks on you regularly. Lots of hugs <3<3

February first! Wow! It is almost daffodil time. The skylights are in and the young man how put them in did a great job. Rain didn’t come until he finished and drove off. It is such a relief to have it done and over. Now the big task is carpet cleaning after a grooming of the naughty Katie. It may not sound like much but it is. It is a full days work. I also need to mop the laundry room and kitchen. Where did all this mud and dirt come from?

Buzz: our daughter has the flu and she developed cellulitis as well. You are right to take care. This flu bug is mean and leaves people weak and defenseless against other threats.

We are being cautious around here. No lunches out, quick shopping trips and I wash my hands so much they look pink and chapped. More hand cream is required. A local grade school closed because of flu. Not sure how long it will remain closed. Scary times but everyone is doing their best to get through this flu season.
