Good morning ladies, Today is an absolutely beautiful day. Unseasonably warm - supposed to get up to 84 degrees! I can't wait to go sit outside. Today will be our free library concert. We've seen the artist several times and enjoy his music so looking forward to it. I got a gift certificate to Soup Plantation for Christmas from a Senior Center lunch buddy so Dan and I are going there for lunch after the concert. Really looking forward to that too! It's very easy to pig out but it is pretty healthy stuff for the most part so I won't feel to bad about it. :) No one has been to the 5 letter game in a couple of weeks. I miss it. :(

The new church went fairly well. It is a refurbished movie theater so the seating is movie seats. They're pretty comfortable. They don't greet each other during the service like other churches I've been to. Felt kinda impersonal but I think Dan liked that so it's all good. The speaker was a guest speaker. He spoke on God being the God of second chances. It was a pretty good teaching. Dan liked it OK so we will go again and hear the regular pastor. We may try a couple of different service times and definitely try parking in a different area. Dan thought the parking was too tight. I guess so far, so good.

Debora, Sprouts wasn't any more crowded than usual. The sale goes on all week long so people just do their usual shopping for the most part and also stock up on the supplements (if they have any sense!). Glad your area is above freezing this week. Stay warm! How is the challenge going?

Sheryl, glad you got a second to check in and let us know you're OK. We hope to hear more from you soon. How did the eye doctor go?

I'm going to go outside now and enjoy the day. This is why we live here! Have a blessed week all!

It’s been another busy week. Monday was 4-H so I spent the day getting ready. Since I could do my printing here at home, I procrastinated on doing things but got it done. Small group due to illness but a good time. My granddaughter made n-obakes for her demonstration and those were the refreshments.

Tuesday I had at home so worked here – never do all I hope to do but that’s how it is. Wednesday I worked at church in the morning. We put the dividers in another box of cookbooks along wit some work on the Echoes. The evening was church and I was in the nursery.

Wednesday night Thursday morning we got an icy mix. Not really that much but it was coming down when buses would be running and many of the schools closed. Julie slid of the road but was not hurt – went in and worked the rest of the day. We stayed home all day and even cancelled Bible study. We did go to town Friday and didn’t have any trouble. Ralph put ice melt on our sidewalk today to get it ready for Sunday. Friday night we went to the homecoming game at the high school Ralph and all the kids went to. It was a fun evening and we won both games. Even found out about a wedding we’ll be invite to.

I’ve been home today. The house is straightened. I still need to mix the meatloaf and cut up the pineapple. Then we have a wedding to go to at 5. Even though it’s only up to 25,,, with the ice melt and sunshine, the sidewalk is almost cleared off.

We are gearing up to take a load of books to Kansas City on Monday but keeping an eyeon the weather cause we heard there might be another storm on the way.

Well, I went to copy and paste and found out I have the above part over and over and over and the rest I typed is not in my word document. So quickly, the challenge is going well. There are about 8 different things to do each day and so far I've managed to do all of them each day. We weight Monday morning so then I'll know officially if I've lost any weight. Has been easier than I thought to stay away from the candy. I'm logging at MFP. I like nutritionix but I also like to log in ounces and I know what I'm doing.

Sheryl, glad it was just your modem that was the problem. How did the eye appointment go?

Isabella, what a beautiful day you are having and a concert and yummy eating out. Glad the church was good. I hope it continues to refresh and challenge you. Don't fall asleep in those comfy chairs. :)

    Better go mix up meatloaf.

Well, I got the meat loaf mixed up last Saturday. I did three pounds and thought it didn’t look like enough so rather then just do another 1 or 2, I did the other 3 pound chub I had bought. Filled the crockpot well. The wedding we went to was very nice. Simple decorations but pretty. The reception meal was delicious – bacon wrapped meatballs, potatoes, green beans, a roll, fruit salad and ice cream mixed with crushed oreos. Yum. We ended up at a table with 3 young couples and Ralph couldn’t hear well but I enjoyed listening. After we got home, I got a call from Alan saying they would not be here Sunday noon as her mom and brother were there.

Went to church Sunday and then here to eat. Plenty of meat loaf left over but we like leftovers. Lori and family stayed all afternoon so go to church in the evening. Lori had a couple of projects she worked on and Ralph had her guys load 18 boxes of books for him. That was fun. Used up some of the leftovers at supper. Heard a missionary in the evening.

So Monday morning Ralph decided we had not gotten much snow so we could go to KC. The first 30 miles we had to drive a little slower and then the roads were clear. We delivered the boxes to be shipped to Kenya. We ate all three meals out and went to three Half Price bookstores. We left at 7:30 am and got home at 8 pm. It was a fun day even though I wasn’t sure we should go when we started out.

Tuesday I babysat at Bible study. Then in the afternoon, I took the farm books in. My first time to meet our new tax person. I made a quick stop at Walmart and then home. That evening we got Ralph’s haircut. We didn’t go as long this time and it was much easier to do. It was a cold day with bad wind chills so most of the schools cancelled.

Wednesday I met at church and we worked on the Echoes. From there I went to the two school to give out the invitations for Good News Club and make my 1st deposit for the group I’m treasurer of. Then I was home for the afternoon and babysat in the nursery during church.

Today I loaded up and took the recycling in that I had together. I have cardboard stuff from Christmas that’s still downstairs that I can fit in the box now. Other than that I’ve been at home. The house always needs straightening it seems. Ralph still needs to finish taking care of the books we bought Monday. I have lots of stuff on the list – just not big enough to name. I am starting to crochet hats for operations Christmas child. One done so far – I’m not fast. The Challenge group I’m in is going well. Lost two pounds last week.

    How is your week going?

Good morning! Got together with my friend Jackie yesterday morning. We went to the farmer's market then went to a new grocery store that opened up where an Albertson's used to be. It is called Atlas international market. Lots of interesting stuff to look at but I don't see myself shopping there very often. Got a good deal on some Satsuma tangerines and a pomegranate though. After that we went to a little local restaurant and had a pastry and decaf coffee. When I got home Dan and I made our usual rounds grocery shopping. Then the usual watched an old movie we recorded - Holiday Inn with Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby - always enjoyable.

Church was pretty good again last Sunday. Parking in the lot across the street worked out really well. The pastor started a new study called How to know God's will for your life or something like that. We liked him pretty well so we will go back. We did shake hands with people around us this time. Also sat in a different section. We are going to try a later service today, the 10:30, and see how that goes.

Debora, glad the challenge is going so well! Keep up the great work. How do you cook meatloaf in the crock pot? I assume you just put it in there instead of the oven. On low? How long? Sounds like it would be really good.

I'm happy to see the five letter game has activity again! I'm going over there now. :)

Well, I'd better go finish getting ready for church. Have a great week all!

Been going as usual. Friday we did our shopping and was home the rest of the day so got to have our pizza. Saturday we went to Lucy’s biddy ball game. She kept p with the team running up and down the court but she doesn’t try for the ball at all. Their team did win. We could have gone to Thomas’ game but Ralph was tired and it was not close and I wasn’t ready for Sunday so we went home and I did my stuff. Sunday we had breakfast for dinner. The two birthday girls really like pancakes so we had pancakes, sausage and fruit plates. I brought frozen pancakes (around 100) and frozen brown and serve sausage links (150) and put the oven and grills to work when we got home. Everyone enjoyed the meal – only had about 6 pancakes and 10 sausage links and they are gone now. I had enough fruit for me to eat later for my fruit for the day (for the challenge). Everyone hung around till almost 4 and then the evening was quiet.
Monday afternoon we went to visit Uncle Joe – first time since he’s in the nursing home. He looks good and seems okay. I took the family letter and read it to him and wrote down his reply. We helped him put a few things away. He couldn’t find his billfold but is was still in the bag from his move from the hospital. I told Ralph we should try and go see him every other week – probably should go more but will depend on what else is going on. His one son has signed all the paperwork but the boys don’t visit their dad – just sad. Ralph went to a dinner meeting in the evening so I could eat what I wanted.
The challenge I’m going on is going well. I have to plan getting the fruits and vegetables in – fruits are easier but I like to get my points so no sweets but on cheat day. As much as I ate before it’s hard to believe I’ve been able to do it and two pounds have disappeared (again).
Tuesday morning I had a dentist appointment for 3 filings – no problem but the funny feeling of a big upper lip. Fortunately, it wore off by Good News Club - only had 15 kids total but is that’s who God wants us to have, that’s okay. Now I need to get new attendance sheets made. I got the next verses copied today. Matthew and Julie wanted to come over last night – my mind went all kinds of direction – maybe they were going to say they were pregnant (not) or who knows. They came earlier than I expected so my salad waited two hours for me. They wanted to let us know they are going to start coming to Emmaus regularly. Some things have been going on in their church over the last year. They won’t move their membership right away but we’ll see them on Sunday – and just Julie if Matthew has to work.
This morning I worked on the Echoes. We’re cutting some laminated ones apart that we didn’t have in the notebooks. Little by little we’re making progress on the project. I had the afternoon at home and determined to take care of a bunch of little things that didn’t take long but take up space on the list and was fairly successful. I’m staying with Derek’s kids three days next week and the day before gone a lot so won’t be home much next week. So…..
Our new hens (well 5 months old) have started laying so now instead of bringing in about 2 dozen eggs a day, it’s more like 4 dozen. Fill up more egg cartons now. Had a friend show me a picture of a triple yolk egg she had. I’d never seen one before.
Only had 2 girls in the nursery tonight so pretty easy. Got my list to do and will head for bed. Good night all.

Hi all, I am going to visit an old friend that I haven't seen in a while. She is the one with the emotional/mental issues. She hasn't allowed me to come visit in quite a while so I was really surprised when she actually called me and asked me to visit. I'll leave in about 15 minutes so I'll keep this short for now. When I get back Dan and I will do our usual.

Don't know if I mentioned that I joined the county library a few weeks ago. I checked out a couple of murder mysteries by some favorite authors and I'm really enjoying reading them.

Debora, congrats on doing so will with the challenge! You should be very proud! Sounds like a great week too.

Sheryl and anew and Jannie, really miss you!

    Well, talk to you soon!

Hi Ladies! Just a quick pop in to say hello :)

So, 2/3 of us had the flu 2 weeks ago :( I started it and DJ quickly got it. Luckily Austin didn't get any part of it! It wasn't what I would call the flu for me--started with an annoying nasal drip in my throat, then not sleeping because of the coughing, then just exhausted (slept 45 minutes, awake 10 and repeat for almost 12 hours!). It seemed more like a respiratory virus for me. Then DJ got it and had the above symptoms but also a 103.8 fever for 2 days and a horrible headache. I never got a fever or a headache. I think that since I'm exposed to everything at the hospital, I don't get as sick usually. Poor DJ missed 4 days of school and just finally got his voice back. I never lost my voice either! I didn't get the Tamiflu because they said the side effects are pretty bad. We had it the same time that St. Louis was the center of the flu outbreak! Glad we could fit right in ;)

Really nothing else new here--both boys have birthdays in February so I've been trying to figure out what to get them. Can't believe I'll have an 18 and 16 year old! Seems like they were just babies :/ And I do miss those days but enjoy the freedom that comes when they can do somethings without my help! I've tried to make sure my boys are self sufficient--they can cook, do laundry, clean/vacuum (they hate it but can do it) and buy groceries. We are still working on the banking/saving part but they will get there! :) Once DJ gets a job, he can start saving his money (he wants to spend his $$ on more fishing gear!). Austin needs some work on his grocery skills--I tell him to buy the cheapest no name food and he always comes home with the most expensive stuff smiley: For example, I said 'please get skim milk, it should be less than $3' He comes home with 1% milk, that was $4.50. He always tells me 'they didn't have anything else'. I need to go with him and make sure he 'finds' the cheaper stuff. Of course if I do go with him, it defeats him helping me out!

One last thing that I don't remember if I mentioned before. I found 'zucchini fries' at Trader Joe's and they are delicious! I bought 3 bags last time I went and will probably get 4 next time. They aren't real crunchy but I really like the taste of them. It makes me happy to eat something healthier than real fries. I probably could make them but these are so much easier than me trying to do it! I have been making sweet potato fries for the boys--they really love them. I just drizzle olive oil and garlic salt and cook them then I broil them to make them crunchier. Easy peasy :)

I was very happy to read all about Isabella's adventures in her new church and hope the visit with your friend went well! Glad to hear the new chickens are laying egss, Deborah! That is always exciting. I'm guessing you don't refrigerate them? I always get freaked out about that even though I know that you don't have to refrigerate them if they aren't cleaned off. My OCD just keeps the 'got to be refrigerated' thought turning! Sheryl sure hope your eyes are ok! Glad you got the modem to work!

Talk to you soon, ladies! :)

Jannie, So glad you got a minute to drop in! The visit with my friend went well. She is really getting a lot worse though - can't remember from one minute to the next. She can't drive anymore and there aren't any grocery stores within walking distance so she has been going to 7-11 or buying meals at the local pizza place or Jack in the Box. She only gets $1,350 on social security so you can only imagine her food dollars don't stretch any where near far enough. I really don't know how to help her (other than give her a little extra money here and there but with Dan "retired" we don't have much discretionary spending either). I took her to the grocery store and we stocked up for at least a little while. I'm thinking about looking into whether there is a social services office I can take her to where they can sign her up for some programs all at the same time. She can't do it herself. I'll see where the Lord leads.

Those zucchini fries sound really good! Are they in the freezer section? I was just there yesterday so I'll look for them next week. What days are your boys birthdays? My birthday is in February too. :)

    Talk to you soon!

Good Morning. Looks like the new modem is working like a dream...it took me awhile to get everything connected, but it's good now. I subscribed to SlingTV, only $20.00 a month and I can get some cable channels now. Our over the air broadcasting networks only had basketball and football on the weekends and some Thursday night football. John kept asking me for more sports so now we can get ESPN. (I'm interested in checking out the Food Network too). I immediately got it on the computer, however, had a heck of a time figuring how to get it on the tv. I got an Amazon FireStick, but the instructions are so terrible, I just couldn't get it. Absolutely no help from Sling or Amazon. I decided to give up and went shopping for a "smart" tv because the SlingTV web site said it would connect automatically to a smart tv. Fortunately, the girl in the electronics department at Fred Meyer was so helpful, she smiled and said going cheap is great for the wallet, but zero customer service. She talked me through it and I was missing just one step in the process, came home and did what she told me and , Voila ! it works. Haven't watched a ball game yet though, it's the weekend and ABC and CBS have lots of games on already.

I've been overwhelmed with so much lately, I just didn't feel like writing it all down for you. When I have a minute to myself, I've just been sitting in my comfy chair, spacing out. I talked to Carol the other day and she said that she missed my emails, thanks Carol for snapping me back. John's still in bed and the cat is all snuggled up in my big comfy chair, so that leaves the computer chair for me.

I'll have to back up a few weeks to answer your comments. In no particular order...My eye appointment went well, no change in my Rx. Each eye is 20/30 and both together, my vision is 20/25. My appointment with the ENT confirmed that my left larynx is still paralyzed and, since it's been 4 years, he doesn't think it will change on it's own at this point. The only recommendation he has is Thyroplasty. A procedure that will be about an inch incision in my neck and they put in an insert to push over and hold the left side of the larynx to the center. That way, my right larynx can work normally and close the gap when talking and swallowing. Should improve my voice and more importantly, decrease the choking. I'm seriously contemplating this and will see the ENT again Feb 8th, to discuss more specifics and possibly set up the surgery.

The biggest news is that I got John to see the doctor. We went to see the geriatric specialist this past Thursday. She was wonderful and handled John great. Answer to prayer, John was very cooperative and went through all the testing and did what he was told. Bottom line, he has dementia, which we all already knew, but now it's official. 2 more hurdles coming, she wants him to have an MRI and, hugely important, to go see a dentist. I'm waiting for a phone call to set up the MRI and I'm planning to check out Sleep Dentistry since we know there will be so much oral work needed. Actually, I'm not even sure if that will help, he may need everything pulled and go with dentures, and that will probably be a nightmare. I'll take it one step at a time.

I better post this before I lose it and continue another comment separately.

Refilled my coffee mug and I'm back.

Jannie, I also like TJ's zucchini fries. You're right, could fix this "from scratch", but grabbing out the freezer is so easy. In the past, when I tried any of the "roasted" veggies on my own, they would come out mushy. I discovered through the Blue Apron meals that I was baking them at a too low a temp. The recipes have the oven at 450 degrees and now they all come out great. I do potatoes, carrots, zucchini, all the veggies that way now. Delicious.
So glad you got through the flu without too much "pain". From the news, it sounds like this flu season is a really bad one. I got a flu shot last December and we decided John did not need one since he rarely goes out and is not exposed to much.

Isabella, so glad that your friend gave you call and she's ready for a visit. How well I know how secluded one can be when there are mental issues. John loves it when Norma or Nancy comes to visit, but he puts a halt to almost anybody else. He'd rather be alone.

Debora, all I can say is WOW, preparing a hundred pancakes and 150 sausage links. How did you keep it all warm? Breakfast for dinner sounds good, we haven't done that in a very long time.

Oh yes, I haven't been here in so long, I forgot about Norma and John's visit. We had a great time. They arrived the Wednesday after Christmas, rested over night and Thursday morning, headed down to Albany to have their "Christmas" with Brent and his family. They had a rental car, so they were independent on this trip, I did not drive them around. They returned Saturday night, and we had New Years weekend together. Really enjoyed the visit and getting to know Norma's John. We all got together with Jack and Gayla over lunch one day and had semi-planned to see Carol and Larry on New Year's Day, but it did not work out. We were going to drive the Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway on Jan 2nd, but Norma's John had decided the weather report looked better for the trip on New Year's Day. He's a super great photographer and wanted to take scenic pictures and was looking for the best weather conditions. Long story short, he took the rental car and went on a photography trek on his own, came back disappointed...conditions were not good. Sun in the wrong spot so not good lighting and super high winds, gusts to 70 mph, almost lost his equipment. Turned out that Norma, my John and I were extremely glad that we stayed home. Maybe we'll try again this coming summer. They will be coming up again in July, a stop here on their way to and from their Alaska Cruise, their delayed 2 week honeymoon.

I think that about catches you up on some stuff around here. I'll do my best to get back here regularly.

Ah, remembered more. No rat activity for weeks, yay!!!

Debora, how wonderful that you are having success on the challenge. At some point, maybe still going on, there was/is a challenge going on here on MFP. When I got my computer back up and running, I went through many many emails that I had missed and one was an invite to join the challenge here by Kit, Billie's daughter. I missed out, but so good to hear from Kit. I think about Billie and Kit all the time and still plan to go to Milwaukie and see them. Kit is doing very well, MFP logging food and exercise has helped her tremendously, down on weight and off meds. No more diabetes and thyroid problems. She said Billie is not doing well at all. Hardly can get around anymore and spends hours upon hours just in her room. Sounds like my Mom. I really need to get there and visit before it's too late.

Good Morning. Not much new news but wanted to "check-in" and get back into the habit.

John was up early and has now gone back to bed.

Yesterday went well and uneventful. Thank goodness for college basketball. I did a little laundry in the afternoon.

I trust that I'll get a phone call today to schedule John's MRI. Then, we'll schedule a follow-up appointment with the doctor to get results and see if any medications can help.

I guess that's it for now.

Good Morning. I received a phone call from John's doctor's office and thought they called to schedule the MRI, however, it was to report the findings of John's blood work. All is good except for vitamin B-12, he needs more. Next time I go out, I'll buy some to take in conjunction with the vitamin B-complex that I'm already giving him. About a half hour later, I got another call, again, I'm thinking it's to schedule the MRI, but it was to schedule the follow-up appointment in 2 months to go over all the results. I asked about the MRI and was told that I have to call to schedule it. I asked who do I call? How would I know what number unless I'm told. He put me on hold and came back with the info. I called and to my surprise, we got an appointment next Sunday morning. I had no idea they would do that on Sundays, and I was so shocked that we got in so soon. Yay! John was right beside me during these calls, so he is aware of it and said he's good with it. I'm so thankful that he's being so cooperative. He is also being so good about taking any pills that I hand him. I am thanking God for such a blessing.

Suppose to rain all day today, so we'll probably stay home and catch up on stuff here. I have paperwork all strewn out on the table...tax time again. I do the farm partnership first, then mine (easy), and then John's (more complicated). All his 1099's are coming in earlier than usual, so maybe I can get all this done way before the deadline. Some years, I'm still working on it at the end of March.

Maybe, I'll have the chance to check out the SlingTV and get a sports thing that John will be interested in. I thought of getting out the new jigsaw puzzles or the Highlight magazine, but then I'll have to clear off part of the table, plus help him with it and not get back to the taxes.

I'm skipping Bible study this morning and I'm thinking that I'll probably have to skip a lot more than am able to go from now on. I sure will miss the fellowship, but John comes first.

I got the info on Carol's sleep dentist and am anxious to make that appointment too. I think that will be the biggest hurdle, getting John to a dentist. But, the doctor said that oral health is huge and effects all other health issues. I figure that I need to get all of John's stuff taken care of before I schedule the Thyroplasty, since I may have to stop talking altogether while I heal. This will be the most difficult part of the whole procedure. I have to make sure everything is settled beforehand.
I also have someone interested in buying my Scout, but it's all taken apart from when we had planned to restore it, so I need to find all the boxes of small parts and get the doors and seats and tailgate, etc. together to give to the guy. I want all that done before I can't talk to him over the phone, although, we can email.

I hear John moving around in the bedroom, maybe he's up for the day.

Good Morning. Yesterday was a great day, taxes took a back seat to John. Absolutely no work done because the weather forecast was so totally wrong and it turned out to be a beautiful day. Sunshine, with a quick, short downpour, then sunshine and blue sky again. John wanted to go for a scenic drive. We stopped at the store for the B-12 vitamins, filled the car with fuel and took off driving through the country. All the same streets that we've driven before, but it's all new and different and beautiful to John.

Once again, I'm so thankful that he is taking an additional pill without any complaint. So far, so good.

I got the go-ahead from my oncologist for the thyroplasty. There should be no conflict of this procedure with my cancer treatment. So, a week from tomorrow, I'll see the ENT and get a lot more specifics about the surgery and possibly schedule it.

I need to get a few emails out to John's cousins about John. After I see the ENT, I'll send out an email update to all my cousins too. Then, back to taxes.

Good Morning. The last two days have been quiet, restful days. John was sick on Wednesday, dizziness every time he tried to move, plus nausea. Stayed pretty still in his chair all day, moaning about his head. No headache or stomach pain, just woozy all day long. Finally late evening, we made it to the bathroom and he lost everything from both ends and went to bed. Thursday, he was fine. Have no idea what it was, as he hadn't eaten anything weird or different on Tuesday and ate absolutely nothing all day Wednesday. Anyway, since he seems completely over it, I have no fear of having to reschedule the MRI for tomorrow. Today will be a haircut, beard trim and shower day in preparation for Sunday morning...in between basketball games, ha ha ha.

I am desperate for a geek to come help me with this stupid SlingTV thing. I now can get the set-up screen up on the tv, but still no games. It's crazy that there are zero instructions, in good plain English, that make any sense at all. I get so frustrated trying that I end up having John watch a game on the computer, but that's not nearly as comfortable as sitting in our big comfy chairs in the living room.

Debora, I hope your days with the grandkids went smoothly. As they get older, I trust it gets easier. Although, maybe a whole new set of issues arise. I am so "out of the loop" when it comes to kids, I haven't been around any in many years.

Not any more new news here, I'll let you know how the MRI goes tomorrow.

Good morning all, Dan and I will do our usual shopping early today because we are going to dinner with one of my co-workers at 5:15pm. We will try a new Afghan restaurant called the Kabob house. It got great yelp reviews and I have a coupon so I'm really looking forward to it. It has been mid 70's to low 80's so it is gorgeous outside right now.

Dan was finally able to call the drywall guy he chose to come and fix the holes in our walls from when we had to have the pipes re-routed after the slab leak. The guy did a great job except for a small area under the sink that he just couldn't get to well enough but it is under the sink where no one will see it so who cares! he will come back to paint on Monday. The paint Dan wants him to use doesn't match exactly but Dan keeps saying he doesn't care so I have given up trying to have him get a better match. He keeps saying it will match once it "cures". I can't make us both crazy over it. It is really nice not to have holes in the walls! I am hoping to have the stuff from the other rooms that is piled up in our living room and "reading" room (was a dining room) put back where it all belongs by my birthday.

Sheryl, SO great to hear from you!! I really missed you!!! So happy that John is being so cooperative with the geriatric doctor and taking the vitamins. It is a known fact that vitamin B-12 deficiency contributes to dementia. If it gets to a point where he is uncomfortable with the pills, you can get the vitamins in liquid form also. The B-complex I give to Dan is liquid. I get it at sprouts. It is also very true that oral disease such as gingivitis leads to many other illnesses. Hope all goes well with John at the dentist and that he doesn't have to get dentures. The thyroplasty sounds very interesting! Hopefully not too invasive. I'll stay tuned for further developments. I've been very curious about the Sling TV. Many people have been talking about getting it on our nextdoor site but not too many details. From what you've said it sounds pretty complicated to get up and running. I don't want to get involved with anything that's going to upset Dan any more than he gets already. Can you "hire" the girl at Fred Myer to come and get Sling to work on your TV? How are the taxes going? We still haven't gotten all our documentation to be able to get our taxes done. It's probably getting to the point where we could start doing them ourselves since Dan isn't working and we have no other income other than my paycheck. From what I understand there have been some big changes in the tax laws this year. Does any of that affect you?

Debora, how did the time with the kids go? How old are they now? Are you having a large group over this Sunday? Will you watch the superbowl? We haven't watched football all year so we aren't going to start now.

Well, I have a pair of pants to sew, a library book to read, and a beautiful day outside so I'm going to get on with the rest of my day. Have a wonderful weekend all!

Wow, went back to find my last post and it has been awhile since I wrote. Don’t worry, I won’t give you a play by play. I can’t even remember it all. We went to Thomas’ basketball game on the 26th – it was fun to watch and made more fun because they won. Saturday we went to Lucy’s biddy ball game. They didn’t win. Sunday we went to McDonadls after church and ate and then we went to watch Jeremiah play volleyball. He is on a team of all boys this year but the play teams of girls. Out of the five games we watched, they won one. But there were some good volleys back and forth.

Monday was at home – always plenty to work on – started packing, etc. Tuesday morning I babysat for Bible Study and helped with Good News Club. When I got home I finished packing – went to close the computer down and the monitor went blank. I called my sister and she had a monitor I could try. When I went to get it I found out it was a older model and huge and heavy. I plugged it in and nothing so finally I just shut the computer down. Ralph had a very sore thumb as it got slammed in the brooder house door – whole thumb is black and blue- keeps a bandaid on it so it can’t be seen. He had a hard time sleeping the first night and it’s swollen but we assume it will get better.

Then I left for Derek’s – got there about 9:30 (after the kids were in bed). They went through the routine – showed me where they wrote down all the info I needed and we all went to bed. They were picked up at 3. She had others picking up and taking the kids to and from school each day (a huge help) so Madden was the only one with me all the time. After I got them to bed the first night, I felt exhausted at first but then as I had time to relax, I felt better so read for awhile. And we started fresh after a good night’s rest. I thought things went well. She had easy meals for me to do. The kids enjoyed the things I took – paint with water, balloons. One night their parents face-timed them and they liked that. I got all the boxtops cut so can get them ready to take back to the school. Friday, during naps, I got things picked up and Lindsey’s parents were there when school got out and by 4:30, they were loading up in the van and I was headed home. I got unpacked and started doing a little pickup here although Ralph did a good job of not getting too much out.

Saturday was County 4-H Days. My job was to sit at the table where they could come get a treat (a candy bar) after their talks, reading, music, etc. That took the morning. Then I did my errands, ate at Burger King and got a haircut so I got home about 4. Ralph still didn’t have all the books cleaned up but it did happen. Today was Communion Sunday and I was in the nursery. We have 2 adult and 2 teenagers helping for this Sunday and we had way less kids than usual – we outnumbered them. Got home and again the lasagna was not done and I had even set it for more time. Then I realized I had set it at 350 and not 400 so we had to wait a little bit. But we did eat. Everyone left around 2 – some had a superbowl party to go to. We’re aren’t watching here. Tomorrow, after walking, looks to be my one full day at home so as usual, hope to do a lot. I’m going to fix me a salad and then do my list.

Challenge I’m on is going fine. I can do very well with checking things off a list. Don’t think I lost any this week although I’m eaten close to what I’m supposed – until today. My sister brought a loaf of homemade French bread today and only half got eaten – will get to eat it this week. Glad it’s not a sugary treat. If nothing else, the challenge has helped me get back to logging and I’m probably drinking more water than I ever have.

Isabella, glad your emotional friend let you come visit and you found some ways to help her. To me using a library is a really smart thing to do. I hardly ever buy a book. Lately our library has a note at the bottom of their date due paper saying how much you saved by not buying the books. Not entirely so, cause If I was buying, it would be second-hand but it’s still a savings.

Janie, sorry the flu came to your house but glad you all survived it. So far so good over here. You are dong a great job of training your boys. I don’t think I did too well – it was easier for me to do a lot of that stuff since I was home but, fortunately, they all figured it out. Keep up the good work.
We do not refrigerate the eggs here but they are within a day or two of getting them to a coler – my walking friend has a vet clinic and they sell them there and have a cooler. And we have to clean them but have learned the best way to do it. We’re up to about 6 dozen a day. I need to get them in cartons yet.

Sheryl, yay on you being able to drop in a bit more. Glad the modem works and hope you enjoy sling tv. two of my kids do almost all their watching on Netflix. My boys both have smart TVs (one because one of their boys threw something at the TV and broke it) and they love it. Sorry the left larynx is still paralyzed but cool that there is a procedure to help. And very thankful, John is cooperating with seeing the doctor. Ralph needs to see a dentist but he knows they’d want to do stuff that would cost and so I told him he’ll have to be ready ad decide to go but I wish he would. I’ve heard to that dental helps with other health too but dental stuff is so expensive and we have no help with it at all. Guess I would try and keep John's teeth if possible cause dentures have to go in and out every day and getting them to fit doesn’t always go smoothly. Plus some things are harder to eat. Prayers for you to know what to do.
Keeping the breakfast stuff warm wasn’t all that hard. We threw the pancakes into a roaster and the sausages into a skillet and ate as soon as they were done. The meal was a lot easier to do than last year.
That is wonderful that you heard from Kit and she is doing well. Sorry to hear that Billi isn’t. I hope you can go visit. Where do you find challenges on MFP? Can you let John help you gather the stuff for the Scout or will you need to do it when he’s otherwise occupied? Wonderful that he came up with the idea for a drive and it went so well. You’ve probably done this, but have you googled sling TV to see if you can get any help that way?

Isabella, hope the evening with friends went well. Nice that the holes are covered and the painting will soon be done. Hopefully, most are the spots will have furniture around them so it won’t be too noticeable fit the paint is too different. You and Dan work well together.
You asked how old the kids I watched are – they are 10, 7, 6, 4, and 2. The boys (4 & 2) still take naps and they all went to bed on time (not that some didn’t get up and try to stay up longer). You said you had a pair of pants to sew – was that for hemming or sewing from scratch? Lori is busy doing costumes for their musical and is certainly little tricks. First, you remember that people will be seeing it from at least 30 feet away. She also buying tablecloths and curtains and not having to hem things. She’s visiting thrift stores a lot to find things.

Hope everyone has a great week. We’re down to 9 right now so we’ll have a cold one.

Good Morning, another short one since John is up again and looks like he's up for the day. Got John to the MRI and all went smoothly. He was very grumpy beforehand and kept asking me "why" he had to go, but I'm so thankful that he does end up going and doing what I ask. Once we get into the car, he's happy, loves going for a ride. (sounds like a puppy dog, doesn't he?) Anyway, got the results by phone already, the doctor called yesterday. No tumors and no sign of stroke, but there is brain shrinkage. When we go for the follow-up appointment, I assume she will be prescribing something to slow the effects of dementia.

Gotta go, hope to talk more later.

Good Morning, yesterday was a "down" day for me, just felt blah and did nothing. Today I have 2 appointments and will be gone for at least 3-4 hours. I trust John will be fine since the weather is good and he will probably be outside the whole time I'm gone.

Debora, yes, John is helping me get all the Scout parts together. Mainly because he put the various boxes up high in the barn over on the side that is only accessed by ladder. The north end has stairs and I get up and down just fine, but I refuse to climb the ladder because I know I will have a very difficult time coming back down. So, John goes up and hands me boxes and we're working together on that.

Isabella, the SlingTV shouldn't be this hard, I am just missing something. Seems that most instructions these days, for anything, are written for people who already know what to do and aren't step by step for us ignorant people. According to what I'm reading now, it has something to do with me getting the right "app" and I have no idea what or how to continue with that. I thought "apps" were for the new fandangled phones, to get the internet on a smart phone or something. I did not mess around with it last weekend since there were so many sports things programed on our regular tv and have not needed it this week since the weather has been good and John is outside. I'll keep trying, but in the meantime, I can still get sports on the computer.

More info on my possible throat surgery after I see the doctor today.
