Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! Working a short close today and then supposed to be off for two days! Dishes are going now, and Lilo is in my lap but my first cup of tea is almost gone so she may have to vacate shortly.

Roger, I sort of agree with the hot tub being just a small, heated pool. Of course all 20 of us couldn't get in there at the same time but it never really seemed to have much of a "waiting" line as the upper deck, lower deck, and basement rec room all were covered spaces where folks could sit around, chat, and eat. I will admit I spent more time in the hot tub than I did in the cold pool, but that's not saying much!

I hope that fat free club soda was also boneless and gluten free...

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday! I've been up for quite a while but distracted by preparing Lilo's breakfast, my birthday breakfast (and lunch - broiled two large chicken thighs and made some boxed cornbread stuffing) and cleaning out and tidying up the cupboard, as some weevils had been having a ball in a bag of garbanzo beans that apparently had a small rip in it. I didn't even know weevils LIKED garbanzo beans, but they sure made a mess out of that bag, and then grew up to be dozens of tiny moths that would flutter out annoyingly when one opened the door.

I checked all the other things in there that I thought weevils might like to eat (and even a few things I didn't think they'd like) as I took things out, cleaned, and put things back. I was ruthless with the discards, and tossed things that might have still been good but had been in there a while and were technically out of date while I was at it.

Main things lost: Some rice, another suspicious bag of garbanzo beans that looked OK but did have a tiny rip in the bag and I didn't trust that there weren't eggs in there, some quinoa (J wasn't all that crazy about it anyway), half a bag of freekeh, and some cereal that was probably fine but was old so it went with the rest. Oddly, the pasta, even that in boxes, looked fine so it was retained. I would have thought the weevils would like that but maybe they were having so much fun in the garbanzo beans that they spurned the pasta?

Laundry later today. It's rainy so I doubt I'll be getting out at all, but we'll see.

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! We did go out for dinner last night, for Thai food and then came home and ate carrot cake. That counts as a vegetable, you know.

Today is supposed to STILL be rainy. Not sure what else there is to do inside, though I am still finding and eradicating those darn little moths. I know I got there main source of food but D still has some food that hasn't been thoroughly checked. I think I'll put all of that into sealed bags today...

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! If you have an iPhone and have upgraded to IOS9 you might want to make sure that you turn the WIFI ASSIST feature OFF as this apparently comes turned ON by default and, at ITS option, decides to use your data connection, in addition to WiFi, if it thinks the WiFi signal is too weak, so it may be using your data (that you pay for) for any high data apps if IT thinks your WiFi signal is crappy, but it's not clear how it decides. Leave WiFi on but turn WiFi ASSIST off!

Working a short close tonight, 6 hours. Shouldn't be too bad. It's supposed to be yucky weather, still, but at least that tends to mean not too hot so I don't mind.

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! I've been up for a while, but distracted by the usuals, including paying a couple of bills. Lilo is in my lap helping by ... well ... just being there I guess.

I have to close tonight, 6 hours, but it's supposed to be quite cool, and likely to rain. I expect that may impact traffic a bit. We tend to be busiest in the nicest summer weather, though I must admit that this year's summer didn't meet the traffic from the prior year. Maybe just not as much fun stuff going on at the nearby river park or the nearby churches and schools, or at least not on the days that I worked.

But we are definitely beginning to see the annual fall/winter slow down, and I'm fine with that. At 56...er, I mean 39, I'm not exactly a spring chicken and just get worn out if I have a really busy 8 hour shift there. You'd think that doing mostly just the till, one wouldn't get that worn out but if it's a steady stream of customers, along with having to run out now and then to front the cooler, check receipt paper on a pump, or assist a customer at a pump, it definitely gets to you. And of course if they bring out more stock, then I have to shelf that stock and make sure I'm rotating the dates properly.

Anyway, shouldn't be too difficult a night. I plan to see if Lilo (who just vacated my lap) wants a short nap in the early part of the afternoon before I get ready to go.

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! I've been up for hours and hours, but busy with upgrading my Macbook and finding a utility to replace one that no longer works in this latest version of the operating system. Seems the not working one was using an undocumented API (not always the best choice of how to work) and that API is now not only undocumented, but nonexistent! I found a suitable replacement in the App Store that was free. While the system was updating, I did go out to Krystal for a breakfast treat. Their 3 egg breakfast combo. Everyone like a freshly cracked egg...except Carol Dumpty, Humpty's bereaved wife...

I'm not working today and just lazing about the house. Good day for a nap! I'm sure Lilo will agree with that.

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! I've been up for a long time but distracted by this and that. Lilo is waiting now for a nap, but she's taking a pre-nap nap next to me on top of a box on my desk.

Closing tonight but Sunday night closings are almost always pretty slow.

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Working another 7 hour middle today. That strange, glowy thing in the sky seems to be peeking out again but I'll get past my fear and go out into the world anyway!

At last look, 0 percent chance of rain today. I haven't seen THAT percentage in quite a while.

I finished off my last bit of sugar free strawberry spread this morning and put a jar of pumpkin butter in there as a seasonal treat. A little dab spread on my whole wheat, high fiber, low carb toast at breakfast shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Ed.....Baked Fettuccine Eduardo, now that sounds very interesting! How was it? What did you do to make it 'your own'?

    Baked Fettuccine Eduardo

1 package (12 oz) fettuccine noodles.
1 pound Kroger Nice and Cheesy queso blanco with jalapeños, cut or broken into small cubes or pieces.
The rest of that package of shredded Italian cheese mix in the fridge. Maybe a cup?
Two (2) slices of deluxe American cheese
1 1/2 cups or so milk

Preheat oven to 350 while cooking the noodles, according to package directions.

Turn the burner down to low, put the drained noodles back in the pan, and put the noodles back on the burner, with the milk and cheeses.

Stir until all the cheeses are melted and the sauce looks nice and creamy.

Pour the noodles and sauce into a greased 9x13x2 baking dish. Bake, covered, 45 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes or until browned to your satisfaction on top.

Remove from oven and let stand for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

It would probably have been fine baking for 30 covered and then 15 uncovered, but I like it the way it came out.

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! I've been up for a while but distracted by checking on bills, getting breakfast, pondering the two huge pieces of split chicken breast in the fridge, etc. I think I'll probably just "roast" them in the slow cooker, maybe with a small amount of apple cider vinegar, and shred them for "barbecue" that can then be had with various sides. If nothing else I got a free one pound bag of baby carrots I can steam. I'm sure D will be happy to eat some of the barbecue and the carrots. He loves carrots. J can have breakfasty stuff.

I might get shot this morning! I'll try not to let that influenza my attitude later.

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! Lilo let me sleep in today and it was nearly 9 when I got up! Waiting for my lamb chops to finish broiling so I can have breakfast. Today we have to do orchid judging photography and pride is supposed to be happening at the adjacent park. Parking and traffic may be serious issues...

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! Supposed to be quite a nice day, which beats yesterday's off and on showers. On the other hand, though pride looked quite busy (we walked down briefly, just to see, after our photography), we had no difficulty getting parking at the garden. But then we got there an hour early too and our room for the judging wasn't quite ready yet, so we had to lurk out under a tree while we waited.

Had some nice Indian food for dinner before we came home and then took a short nap before feeding the sugar gliders and going on to bed.

I'm working a short closing tonight so hope to get in a nap with Lilo somewhere in the day.

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday! Off work today, but we have Orchid Society. I've purchased the cheese and crackers and summer sausage and I'm donating two small pudding cakes, with almonds, that I bought after work last night off the "Oops! We Overbaked!" rack on the cheap. I hope they eat them all up. I've never tasted an almond pudding cake before, so may even try a tiny sliver of that myself. The last time I brought a cake it was a leftover full sized Easter cake with very bright, coconut icing. They ate every crumb. So I have an expectation that this cake will be consumed.

People haven't been brining the sweets like they used to and sometimes just about all the food there is the meat, cheese and crackers that I bring. So if I don't add in something sweet for them, it just isn't there. I think the president needs to remind them that the hospitality chair and helper (I'm the helper) aren't supposed to bring in EVERYTHING but that members can bring stuff too. The chair brings the coffee and sodas. I buy the main savory snacks, since I work at a grocery and get a discount, and get some reimbursement for that, and we do have a contribution jar for people to drop money in.

Whatever is left at the end of the calendar year, from the contributions and the budget for hospitality, goes toward the Christmas ham for the group's holiday party, and if there's STILL some left, after paying for a Honeybaked ham (Frankly, I could just buy a Kroger spiral sliced honey ham for a lot less and warm it up but no one asks me...) then it can pay for some more paper plates, napkins, plasticware, coffee, creamer, and sweetener. We don't have much of a budget for hospitality and depend on people bringing stuff in to supplement AND people making cash donations to supplement the limited budget.

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Working a long middle today and not really looking forward to it. Some days you just don't feel like it.

Society meeting went fairly well, even though I found out late in the day that the hospitality chair wasn't coming at all (no coffee!) and that if I didn't bring beverages, there wouldn't be any. Fortunately I had most of a case of bottled water so I grabbed that and brought it along and people could drink that with their snacks. It worked out well. There were a couple of grocery stores along the way we could have stopped at, if necessary, but it was easier not to.

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! Need to get my bulbs planted this afternoon, but I have to wait until the sun goes behind the house so it's not shining on me when I do it.

A friend gave me a 50 bulb wildflower collection as a wedding present. With my old hips and such it will be fun planting them. I did say she was a friend, didn't I? Then why isn't she over here planting them? Hehe.

I COULD wait a little bit further into the fall, but I think it's the right time now.

Other than that, Lilo thinks I should take a nap today.

I've been up for a while but distracted by various things, including a delicious chicken dinner for breakfast. Last night I made a simple dinner of baked chicken breast, instant noodles (chicken flavored), peas and carrots, but made plenty for two meals. The second meal warmed up for a nice, easy breakfast, with just the right amount of noodles for both meals. Well, OK, I'd have LOVED more noodles but I didn't NEED more noodles. It was about two carb servings per meal of noodles so that worked out just right for what I'm supposed to be eating, and it was enough to satisfy. This is one way of taking a grocery store package of instant noodles and making it fit the plan. Divide and conquer!

My boss informed me she is quitting (doctor's orders!) at the end of the month. This isn't really a major surprise and I've seen it coming for a while, but she didn't want to talk about it until yesterday. My name was first on everyone's lips as replacement, even though I had been saying all along I don't really want to work full time. I have to admit the little bit more money and the somewhat more regular working hours are appealing, but if I choose the opening shift (I can take opening or middle) the extremely early rising hours are appalling.

I told them I'd consider it but told them to be fair and consider a young lady who is also working there, though she may not have enough time on board to be considered. I definitely have seniority and if I want the job, it's mine. They will be talking to to the young lady today to see how she would feel about the situation either way. So I'll either be lead fuel clerk or backup lead fuel clerk.

I need to win the lottery so I don't even have to work.

I think I'll make baked fettuccine Eduardo again tonight.

I did get out a little while ago and got ALL the bulbs planted, and then came in and took a shower. I was pondering whether I needed to eat anything after all that work and then received a Mrs. Fields cookie sample in the mail, that I had completely forgotten about requesting, since it was three or four months ago at least. At any rate, I ate that since I felt I had earned at least a cookie. I did give J one big bite of it.

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! Closing tonight, but it's supposed to be a nice night for it so I won't mind at all. I prepped the chicken for the sugar gliders as J is grossed out by cooking and/or cutting up chicken for them. If I'm not going to be home at their usual feeding time I prepare it the day before or as many days before as necessary. Chicken is one of the few foods they consistently like so they get that every night. I buy them organic, no added stuff, no weird feed, etc. chicken. Sometimes I can get lucky and find it as buy one/get one (which is really just half price) at work. I usually buy a package or two for them and immediately split it up into manageable chunks in the freezer, cooking one at a time as needed. When I get down to only one or two chunks left, it goes back on the shopping list.

I've been up for a while but distracted by breakfast, Lilo, etc. I'm sure she'd like a nap before I go to work tonight.

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! I've been distracted by feeding Lilo and getting my own breakfast going (not eaten yet, but it's in the toaster oven) and of course FaceBook is always calling, calling, calling.

Who am I kidding? I can start with the Weather Channel page and get distracted!

Closing tonight and then a four hour late middle tomorrow. And then a Halloween party of sorts Saturday afternoon/evening. I need to remember to make the baked beans in a crock pot Saturday morning before I go to work at 12:30 so they'll be ready to bring when I get off work at 4:30.

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! Short (4 hour) middle today. I got the baked beans going in a crock pot for the party, if I go. If I don, well, that's fine, because I like baked beans! I hope I didn't get them to spicy hot for "normal" folks, but I really don't think I did. We'll see if anyone's face melts. ;) There is one person planning to be at the party who always wants to try my cooking but as he lives in midtown it's rare that he gets a chance. He's tasted (and actually eaten a serving of) only a few things, and not many of them were on the spicy side, as they just happened to be things like Noodles Romanoff or the like.

Anyway, dishwasher is going and I need to drink my tea.

I never found any of the NS foods to be too spicy hot, though I did read other members complaining about some of them. The ones they found "hot" I found to be tasty enough but not hot. I sometimes added extra hot sauce to the chili just to kick it up a notch.

I suspect your brother would have found the beans to be tasty but not particularly hot. As I said, I tried to tone it down for "normal" folk. I thought they came out quite well, and they did have a bit of a sneaky, slow heat to them, but not face melting.

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! I woke up to actual warm air coming out of the register! Our system is set to automatically use heat if if falls significantly below 68, and cool if it goes above 78 or so. Last night the heat kicked in. This is the first time this fall that I've NOTICED that happen. If it happened before, I slept through it.

Party was fun for a while but I didn't stay long. Delivered my promised baked beans, pointed them out to a couple of friends I KNEW would be interested, ate a few chicken wing drummies and some baked beans, tasted the flan one of the youngsters made (that boy has a possible future as a chef!) and drank a lot of water and a diet Coke. Watched people paint ceramic pumpkin candle holders for the host's mantle, etc. The male half of the hosting couple was dressed as Bob Ross (happy trees!) and the female dressed as a faun, but I swear that thick costume MUST have been awfully warm. It looked great, though!

I just went as a dirty old man...I guess. When I got home I gave J some baked beans I had saved for him along with making some scrambled eggs, faken, and hash brown potato patties.

No work for me today, so I can hopefully take it easy.
