Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Off to Memphis today for a board meeting tomorrow. While there I hope to get my remaining accounts in Memphis changed to my new name. But first, of course, need to get packed.

Howdy y'all. I'm in Memphis, at a Motel 6, with the AC set to REFRIGERATE. Had a steak dinner at Shoney's. Board meeting (and hopefully getting accounts set to new name) tomorrow. All I brought with me is my new drivers license so I hope that's enough to get the names reset...

Howdy y'all. I can't believe I'm not seeing anyone else posting yet. It's wonderful Wednesday! About to shower and head off to the bank to see if I can get things changed with just a drivers license, since I forgot my packet with the marriage certificate and all that.
Then, lunch with an old friend and ex-employee. I begged her not to retire on me but she did anyway. A couple of years later, I followed.

Howdy y'all. Back in Peachtree Corners now. I got back about 3:30 this afternoon and immediately had some quality nap time with Lilo, who was very glad to see me.

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! Need to make something for a pool party this afternoon. I've assembled ingredients for a mac and cheese and chili beans with added bell peppers, jalapeรฑo, onion and black peppers, so that there will be for sure ONE thing that J can eat. As usual the hosts are providing angus burgers/cheeseburgers and "kosher" hot dogs cooked on the same grill. I eat them, not because they're kosher, since after that preparation they're NOT kosher anymore, but rather I eat them because Hebrew National hog dogs are the best! I've been known to unkosher them myself by steaming them and then making them into chili cheese dogs. At the party, I'll be on the lookout for an almost burned, blackened dog.
Then some suitable sides. Maybe a spoonful of baked beans if anyone brings that, three bean salad if it's available (not one of my all time favorites, but a good, healthy selection and I do like it on occasion), oh, no bun(s) with the burger and/or hot dog...so maybe just a bite of potato salad or dessert. Parties can be survived, with a little willpower or, perhaps, won't-power.

Hi Ed
Around here we can buy Bests Hot Dogs and TBH I prefer them over the Hebrew National. However currently I am eating 97% fat Free Hebrew National Hot Dogs @ 45 Calories per dog and using FlatOut Flatbread Light Whole Wheat @90 calories per bread. I use 1/4 per dog as they are pretty large and I also use 1/2 with a Home made Egg Salad using Mount Olive No Sugar Added Sweet Relish that has 0 calories and some light Mayo. The Egg Salad comes out Tasty and the Relish tastes good too.
FWIW I like my Dogs well cooked too
Enjoy the Pool Party
Roger
The party was great! Oh, and I love those Hebrew National 97% fat free dogs too. They are usually what I buy for my home use, as I have yet to find any other fat free (or nearly fat free) dogs that taste anywhere NEAR as good. As with the dog at the pool party, I really like to broil them until very dark and nearly crispy, unless I'm making a (rare) chili cheese dog with low fat turkey chili, a reduced calorie (80 calories) high fiber whole wheat bun, and a sprinkle of REAL cheese (because I can't stomach fat free cheese). For the chili cheese dog, I will usually just quickly microwave the dog until it "sings" and then quickly assemble and eat.
I've used that Mount Olive relish before and loved it but can't find that one at my Kroger anymore. Fortunately Kroger makes their own sugar free sweet relish that is pretty good too, though that is one case where I do prefer the name brand. I like to use it to make a quick tuna salad, with just the tuna, relish, and a little salad dressing or mayo, though it also works well for deviled eggs. I usually put the tuna salad in half a whole wheat pita bread and have that with a small apple for a nice, healthy lunch.

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! My ears, face and shoulders are just a teeny bit red and I can feel it but we had a good time. Closing tonight, a "short" closing, so a nap with Lilo may be in the works. Dishwasher is running now. They tried to call me in to close last night, as the person scheduled called in unavailable, but we were already well on our way to Braselton for the pool party and NOT in my car. I just said I was out of town and left it at that, not bothering to explain that I was riding with someone else (who, in fact was working at the party, as it was a club event and he was handling registrations as guests came in) and oh, by the way, I had REQUESTED THE DAY OFF IN ADVANCE (which my schedule did reflect) because I already had plans that precluded working. Basically, just told them, truthfully, that I wasn't even in town and couldn't close.
It was thundering and beginning to rain as I went to sleep last night but I have no idea how much we got.GardenKatGardens wrote: ยปEd, I'll look to see if Publix has the Mount Olive relish...I know they used to sell it. If I find it will let you know, and arrange to meet you at Trader Joe's???
Oh, you needn't. There is a Publix within walking distance of our house and I do drop in occasionally. At some point if I want that brand badly enough I will look there for it, but as I said, I find the Kroger brand to be acceptable. It's not as if I'm eating it straight out of the jar so that it makes a huge difference! I just put some in deviled eggs, egg salad, potato salad (I make that for J) and tuna or chicken salad. I really can't think of anything else off the top of my head that I use it in, and even a small jar lasts me quite a while.โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ-

Howdy y'all. It's magnificent Monday. Off work today so I'm crockpotting some chicken to make chicken and dumplings tonight. Or noodles...or rice...probably dumplings.
Lilo has long been fed, I've been fed breakfast, still sipping my second cup of tea and browsing the internet. I will start laundry soon.

I'm back! Laundry and nap are all done (though not in that order) and my chicken and dumplings is delicious! D is still out and about, though I TOLD him dinner would be at 6 or 7...so I've eaten and left the crockpot on LOW pending his return home. My homemade herb egg dumplings came out very nice, even though I did them the "lazy" way this time, just pinching off blobs of dough and flattening them with my fingers before dropping them in the hot broth. Usually I roll them and cut them into small squares with a pizza cutter, but they taste the same regardless. The rolled and cut dumplings just look a bit more professional. Peas and carrots in the mix made this a one pot meal.
I HAVE made tofu, but not directly from soy beans. I found a tofu powder mix a few years ago that you just added water to and then added the mineral salt at the end to solidify it. I don't remember whether you had to boil the water or what, but the mix actually made a decent tofu and we used it a couple of times for when we didn't have any fresh tofu available. I'd use it again if I happen to see it again. I just haven't looked for it.
I used an empty tofu box to mix it in so it would still be a large rectangle.

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! Working a short middle today, so it shouldn't be too bad. Finished off the last of the chicken and dumplings for breakfast. I'm letting Lilo have a few more minutes of lap time before I evict her to make my second mug of tea.
I actually didn't have chicken and dumplings for dinner, as I had a hankering for beef stew and made that when I got home, for a rather late dinner. There is, needless to say, quite a bit of that left! D had two bowls and I told him to warm some up for tonight as I'm NOT cooking anything tonight. I'll be having leftover beef stew myself. Silly D asked what the "base" for the stew was and seemed surprised that it was...BEEF BROTH and not one of the pre-mix stew seasoning packets. I do occasionally use those, if they can be purchased on sale or at closeout and I think I may actually have one or two still in the cabinet from the last time I saw some on closeout, but I wanted fully home made stew last night for some reason and I'm glad I did. I can still beat the heck out of any store bought seasoning packet with my eyes closed.
J is in Kentucky because his grandmother had a stroke while moving to another house. She was already battling lung cancer (inoperable and chemo won't bring it into remission again) and he went up to help so that when she gets out of the hospital she can go home to find that the moving is all finished and she doesn't have to worry about that at least. I hope he can find something to live on besides pizza and eggs while there. Maybe my sister in law will let him cook some nights.

Leftover stew came out quite nicely. D is just now having his. I decided I would cook some garlic bread to go with it, as work gave all employees a FREE loaf of French bread, retail value 1.99. In addition a free bag of ground coffee, 10 oz, and a free box of cookies that I'll save for J when he gets home. There is a free bottle of some Italian soda pop too but I didn't see any so will look at another Kroger tomorrow for that, and see if they have a diet soda. If not, then I'll get a sugar one for D to drink. Now I'm pondering making some of the coffee for after dinner.

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! No work today, but opening tomorrow. I've been up for hours and hours but distracted by breakfast, feeding Lilo, moving money around to try to pay the power bill, etc. Didn't get out to the other Kroger though, just came on home and had lunch.
Nap time with Lilo soon!

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! Working a short middle today. Y has called in EVERY SINGLE SHIFT for the last three weeks, at the last minute, and not shown up. As I left yesterday, I found out she had called in again (to not show up for closing last night) and I told my boss right then that I was not coming back later to fill in. I'm too old for this s***! I'm of the opinion that they should just not be putting her on the schedule any more. I understand she's moving and all but really, it's not possible to be having a crisis every single time. She was only scheduled two nights a week anyway and, moving or not, she can plan her time better than that! Why do I feel that she's not calling in to her other, full time job? Because she's probably not, that's why. Once in a great while, OK. Maybe you have a genuine crisis and can't come in or are too sick. But not every time for this long. If you're not going to come in then just @#$%^&* QUIT already so we can plan around that instead of scrambling at the last minute every time.
She's NOT scheduled to come in after me tonight...I'm seriously considering telling the boss if she IS scheduled to come in after me at any time in the near future, I'm just shutting the place down and going home when it's time, whether she's there or not...and if they fire me, it's worth it. I'll find a job with more reliable co-workers...
OK. Rant finished...for now.

As I was eating my portion of home made shepherds pie tonight, I suddenly wondered why NS never (to my knowledge) tried that, or at least cottage pie (made from ground beef, rather than lamb) as an entree. It seems like it would be a great fit and wouldn't be too difficult to have made in a shelf stable form, though the mashed potato "crust" on top wouldn't be nicely browned unless you ran it under the broiler after heating it.
I love to make it, as it's dinner in one dish and my technique uses one pound of ground lamb to make four nice, meaty servings, each with its complement of peas and carrots and topping of garlic mashed potatoes. And I've always found lamb (or sheep, or goat) to be a very filling meat, so one can eat a relatively small portion and still feel quite satisfied.
Two hours after eating my dinner, blood glucose was 123. Can't complain about that!

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Long middle again today. J is supposed to be coming home tonight! Yay!
We actually get that scheduling "error" often, though it's usually an 11:30 turnaround, rather than 10:30. That's a little easier to accomplish, though 10:30 is do-able. It is better than when I sometimes had to work 16 hours (someone called in) at the little grocery (35 years ago) and then have only 8 hours off and have to be back again.โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ-

Well, today was even worse! When I got there the AC in the kiosk was broken. It was 86 degrees already in there and felt like a sauna. I told the lead, as soon as I walked in, literaly, NO F****** WAY could I stay out there very long. The store sent out a medium sized box fan, but that (and the small fan that I brought out several months ago) were totally unable to cope. All they did was move hot air. Very hot air. There are no vents if the AC isn't working. No windows that can open. I told management as well that there was no way I could be out there for 8 hours (minus the profanity) and I started by working in the store, replenishing the stock for the fuel center, and then tried to work out there for as long as I could, while the lead went home to recover, having drank the Powerade that I told her to drink whether she thought she needed it or not.
When I started feeling REALLY ICKY, after a couple of hours mostly in there, (I did step out whenever I could but customers kept coming to the kiosk so I had to go back in) I called in and they sent someone out to take over. At that time it was 90 degrees in there and they realized that it was really impossible. For her they propped the door open, and put a waste basket full of ice in front of the box fan.
Aside from getting OUT OF THE HEAT, I knew what else I needed to do so I sat up in the break room drinking more Powerade Zero (third bottle and began a fourth bottle) until I felt well enough to go home, whereupon they called and told me that it was fixed (but no, they didn't expect me to come back) so I'd know it was safe to come back tomorrow. And to make sure I got home OK. Then I laid down until nearly dinner time. At that point I made dinner and I finished off the last Powerade with dinner. Feeling pretty human now, but it took time, rest and plenty of fluids. I think the lead realized after I told her to drink the Powerade, just how much fluid she was losing via sweat. She stayed out there as it got hotter and hotter while I was doing the replenish. By the time I got that done, it was getting into afternoon and REALLY hot.
Working a long close tomorrow, assuming it stays fixed...and then maybe 4 hours in the middle Thursday and then OFF through the entire Labor Day week. I'm ready...โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ-

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! Working that long close tonight but if the AC is working, won't mind a bit. Company is coming in tonight but J will be picking them up at the Marta station. Then tomorrow night we all go downtown and check into hotels, though the other couple will be in a different hotel, for DragonCon. From that point, any calls from the store will be unanswered and any messages left for me will be, perhaps, briefly considered, then laughed off. Vacation means NO, YOU DON'T GET TO CALL ME IN so there!

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! Working a short middle today and then off to check into a downtown hotel. We are NOT driving downtown today. There are supposed to be 65,000 people downtown for a big game and several thousand MORE for another, not as big game, and the vice president will be driving around at about the same time!
We are taking the Marta in, DURING the games so it will hopefully not be too crowded, as the crowds will already be seated watching the games, and the vice president's drive shouldn't affect the train much, if at all.
The air conditioning was working well enough yesterday at work, and it was a reasonably pleasant 8 hour closing. When I got there it was 74 degrees, and it mostly bounced between 75 and 77 as the afternoon and evening progressed, finally getting back down to 74 and eventually to 72 (where it was set) by late in the evening, after dark. Don't know if the repaired system will be able to maintain that temperature, but the "old" one usually kept it below 75. We'll see. 77 is acceptable with enough air movement, as long as the AC dries the air out enough, and it was. Every time it went UP a degree I checked to make sure it was actually blowing cold air. Didn't want any sneaky surprises.
Nice that your delivery is arriving today, Roger! But you still don't know which one?

Howdy y'all from beautiful downtown Burbank. Er, I mean Atlanta! You bet your sweet bippy! (Let's see how many people get THOSE references...)
It's fabulous Friday! I'm skipping my usual signature block this morning as that paste-in is on my other computer at home and I'm on the mini-Dell this morning. I found an acceptable (though expensive) breakfast downstairs a while ago and am about to shower and get on with the day. Sipping tea now.
OK. J is out of the shower so in I go!
Later gators!

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! 50% chance of scattered showers today, and a bit cooler. I ran into an old friend and his boyfriend in one of the crosswalk bridges the other night but we were moving in heavy crowds, in opposite directions. There was just time for a quick HELLO shouted across and then we were gone. I sent him a message telling him where we're staying in case they want to get together later. They live in Tucker but we never see each other. Isn't that just the way of the world?
We were up really late last night, as we had to Marta back toward home to feed the sugar gliders. There was an elderly woman on the train who looked like she was not feeling well and her luggage kept falling over (and she kept putting her head between her legs and apparently falling asleep) but she insisted she was all right, just tired. However, when I asked her where she was going she mumbled something about Kroger (with two big rolling suitcases? I think not) and when pressed said she was getting off at 5 points (which she had passed before J and I ever got on the train.
I kept an eye on her until we reached our stop at the end of the line and then J stayed with her while I paged the train operator. She had removed herself from the train by then but the operator took over for us and convinced her to get back on and we left her in his capable hands...at least I hope they were capable. When we got back to the station about an hour and a half later, he was operating the train we were riding back downtown and waved at me as he walked by.
We've seen all sorts of interesting costumes, including Peter Pan's shadow, running around without him.
Later!

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! We slept in this morning but then we were up past 4:00 with the late late showing/performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Barry Bostwick (who played Brad in the movie, 40 years ago) was a special guest before the show.
Finally got up and to brunch at about 11:00. Fortunately the Corner Bakery Cafe serves breakfast any time.
Off to see if I can snag a copy of "Leonardo's Cat" at the art show and sale. If I do, I'll post a picture of it later.

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday! Happy Labor Day! Last morning of Dragon Con here. We are getting all cleaned up and ready to check out. The vendors area of the con is supposed to stay open (at least some of the vendors) until 5 or so and we'd like to go through there when it's, hopefully, less crowded and crazy. We have strolled through a couple of times but it was just too crazy for words. J bought something but I haven't bought anything from that side as yet. I did buy something from the art area but that was in a different building. I'll take a photo of the cat (in the Mona Lisa pose) for y'all later.
Lilo will be thrilled to have me home again for more than just a few minutes each night!

Howdy y'all. I'm back at home now in Peachtree Corners. We ended up NOT taking the Marta as our guests had some really BIG luggage and didn't want to fool with the train. So they paid for a Lyft Plus driver to drive us from downtown to the Marta station where we had parked and we drove home from there.
Probably pizza tonight as I sure don't feel like cooking. Now I will use my "recovery" days of vacation to get over Dragon Con!
