Hi! Made it to the gym, and thru Whole Foods...no Chicken Fried Tofu for Valerie today! RATS. But I did find enough stuff that I didn't leave empty handed! Had an avocado, carrot, cucumber roll in a rice skin with a Sweet Thai Chili Sauce...yum, and 2 small-ish pieces of fried plantain, and 2 cooked mushroom, and a couple bites of a Thai Slaw, Oh,,,there was a dish...tofu cut into healthy sized cubes marinated, sprinkled with black sesame seed..I've forgotten what they called it...I named it good! SO, as you can see I had a taste of this and that along with my Thai veggie roll...am now sleepy. I may take a nap!
I also found a new liquid sweetener
...
I tasted it about 5 minutes ago...sweet, no noticeable after taste, about the consistency, of white corn syrup..just a tiny bit thinner.
Holds promise. I may have found a sweetener I really like!!! (if your interested Ed, its with the other non sugar cane sweeteners like the agave, etc. This one is fructose free, so should be much better for us. It is of course still a refined product....I have visions of a nice sweet cup of tea after dinner. What else...oh, Lundburg Farms, Salty Caramel rice cakes...tested and certified not to exceed the arsenic 'safe' levels of drinking water. I poked around in the bulk area looking at the rice. Picked up some Red Rice from Bhutan..which means it too should not have arsenic. Rice to avoid is rice from Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. "Southern states rices" (Pesticides used against cotton pests, like bole weevil...soaked into the ground in large amounts...and absorbed by the rice plants.)
Its beginning to look like it might just be gonna rain. Going to check the mail just in case it does rain. At least at my house there was very little liquid...but a whole orchestra gone mad amount of 'noise'.
Later...
WIll come back and remind Roger to gargle with warm salt water.... It really does work...wanna know why???????0 -
You’re creating a high-salt barrier and you’re pulling out a lot of fluids from the tissues in the throat area, so you’re washing the virus out. The salt functions as a magnet for water. It’s good for symptomatic relief. And it creates a salty environment which is inhospitable to some nasty germs and they can't survive. 8 oz warm water and ½ teaspoon salt. It's worth a try...or as Ed suggested...go see your Doc. He'll likely run a rapid strep test to be on the safe side.0

Hi
I still did not do any walking today, I still have a sore throat. The temperature this morning was 70 on the news channel and 72 degrees on the front porch, FWIW. I can see we had some light rain overnight.
I went looking for some Blackberries this morning, I found one ripe one and several not ripe. It appears that production is done for the year.
Have a Great Wednesday

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! 74 out there now with an expected high of 91 and 30 percent chance of scattered showers.
I need to get out to the store today. Laundry lurks yet...

Well, Roger, what was the temperature in YOU? Or have you even checked that?
Maybe if you drink the lime in the coconut you'll feel better?

I'm back, the rapid strep throat test came back negative, The throat is inflamed and for now they are trying Amoxicillin. Wish me luck.Interesting about the rice from southern states. I hope the new sweetener works out for You.GardenKatGardens wrote: »You’re creating a high-salt barrier and you’re pulling out a lot of fluids from the tissues in the throat area, so you’re washing the virus out. Your posts energized to to go get checked out...
They also suggested a Salt gargle. I'm not sure how that will work as I do not remember ever gargling in my entire life I fear I may end up swallowing more of the salt liquid than anything else.
Cheers & Thanks

FWIW I went to the medical place as I am still feeling poorly, Tired, Sore Throat and weak. I took the visit to the Medical place as a excuse to stop for Fruits on the way to Pharmacy. I picked up a bag of Mineola's. A couple of Pink Lady Apples, a Couple of Nectarines and some greenish Bananas. They also had some decent sized Salads that run 210 to 290 calories per servings AKA bowl. They were Bacon & Turkey Cobb Salad, Cranberry & Walnut Salad and a Caprese Salad so I thought I would try them. I have had all three types from other sources and liked them.
Signature Farms Cranberry Walnut Salad
More of a side dish than a meal, this salad is fresh, but the toppings are chintzy. The raspberry vinaigrette is much too sweet and lacks acid. A 4.5 ounce salad has 210 calories, 9 g fat, 450 mg sodium, 7 g protein.

This one is the highest in calories and Sodium, I suspect due to the bacon.

BTW I do not know if it is different here in NJ than in Georgia?
Here they do not give You a written Prescription, It is sent to You Pharmacy electronically. That sort of Hinders shopping around. I do know not to use CVS as they are high. I paid $11 for the last and the current pills at the local pharmacy.0 -
I mostly get prescriptions called/faxed/electronically input...but for some prescriptions, for some reason, they still occasionally give me a written slip of paper. Most of my doctors know who's the cheapest and if they don't, then my insurance company does and will let me know.
Had a rather unsuccessful shopping trip today. The vet didn't have any of Lilo's canned food available but have ordered six cans for me. I have enough of hers, and of Kiara's to last through Sunday so that's not a big deal. I can get more of both at PetSmart. The vet stop was just on the way home from Kroger so it wasn't out of the way. They are generally just a few cents cheaper than PetSmart on Lilo's canned food.
At Kroger I got the sodas for J and a free Kind bar, along with some salsa and a bag of chips for J. And managed to not get the yogurt that I need to buy soon for the sugar gliders. I have enough for a night or two and will just have to get that when I go out to get the cat food at PetSmart. Publix is in that same parking lot area and may have the kind of yogurt I buy for them. If not, then the longer trip to Kroger, but I'm not going to Kroger just to get ONE ITEM if Publix, which is closer, has that. Besides, I need to pick up a scrip at Publix.
Glad to hear you went to the doctor, Roger! I don't think any of us like to go.0 -

Hi Ed
I tend to wait to long to see a doctor, Back in 80s or 90s I finally broke down and went to the doctor and remembered them saying stand up straight right before I woke up on the floor. They bunged me into the Hospital that was across the street, days later the pneumonia was cleared up. I have been more cautious ever since then
Good Luck with Your shopping

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday!
74 out there now with an expected high of 90 and 20% chance of rain. Maybe I'll get out to buy the yogurt this morning. And a few cans of cat food.
Cats got me up before 6:30 this morning but that was OK I guess. I've had my oatmeal and bacon and they'll get their food shortly.

Former Los Altos baseball player sues coach after being benched, claims bullying
By Hayley Munguia, The San Gabriel Valley Tribune
Posted: 08/14/17, 3:13 PM PDT Updated: 15 hrs ago
A former Los Altos High School student and baseball player is suing the school district and his former coach for hundreds of thousands of dollars because the coach repeatedly benched him.
According to the suit, the school’s head varsity baseball coach, Gabriel Lopez, repeatedly refused to let 17-year-old Robbie Lopez, no relation, play throughout his senior year. The suit claims this constituted a pattern of “harassment and bullying.”
The teenager and his parents are seeking $150,000 or more, according to the suit.
Hacienda La Puente Unified athletic director Andrew Formano and assistant superintendent of human resources Jill Rojas both said they could not comment on the matter. Gabriel Lopez did not respond to a request for comment.

Lucky us we get a chance of rain into the overnight hours and somewhat cooler than yesterday
Hmm...
Oatmeal, I was wondering what to do for my midmorning snack, Thanks for the reminder that I have some. I was thinking of a Nathan's Hot Dog on a 40 cal slice of 647 bread with a touch of ketchup, the Oatmeal would be lower calories.

For tonight's dinner I made some small pieces of garlic cheese toast, then followed with zoodles (zucchini noodles) and squoodles (yellow squash noodles) topped with spicy marina sauce, and then generously sprinkled with Parmesan/Romano cheese. Mine was also accompanied by some bratwurst, as I had put a couple of links out to thaw the night before and I needed a bit more protein in my meal.
J liked the zoodles and squoodles well enough. I'll continue to practice my technique on those though as I think I could have cooked them a bit longer. Better underdone than overdone and cooked to mush though!
Overall, I was pleased with the dinner.

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! 75 out there now with an expected high of 89 with 20% chance of showers.
Laundry still looming. Cats will be fed shortly, as will I.
Still need to buy cat food though as I'll otherwise run out of canned food after Sunday morning feeding.

Hi
I did a little walking today, I still have a sore throat. The temperature this morning was 76 on the news channel and 75 degrees on the front porch.
It started raining about 10 minutes before I left to get some coffee. If I had not slept in late I could have been ahead of it
It kept alternating between a light rain and heavy rain with periods of Thunder.
Have a Great Friday

The Garlic Cheese Toast sounds delicious.
IMO the Zukes and Yellow summer squash go mushy so quickly. I agree that better a little under than overdone. I like them sliced and crisped in the skillet using Olive Oil.parityanimal wrote: »Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! 75 out there now with an expected high of 89 with 20% chance of showers.
