Hi
I'm back from walking this Morning. The temperature this morning was 10 on the porch and 8 on the cable news channel. The sidewalks and driveway have a bit of snow that drifted last night around 6PM. I picked up my coffee and the winds were not blowing as hard as yesterday. The walking was good except where the sidewalks were still snow covered and I did run into a stretch where spray from the road coated them with ice. I stopped at the grocery store to warm up and bought some sliced ham that was on sale at a good price. Once again I was very happy to get back home this morning

While I think it's great that curcumin helped that one woman, and hope that further research is done into HOW it helped, I fear that it, like many treatments, is likely to work for some, but not all.
Sounds to me like the spiked, "pious, judgmental vegan" may simply have been a guest at the party who was not, in fact vegan, but had a lot of friends who are. I believe the restaurant lady was WAY out of line there in judging, and more so in posting what she did. I'm sure the patron who ordered the pizza with cheese knew full well that she was ordering cheese, as if she had actually been a "pious, judgmental vegan" she would have read the menu carefully and/or inquired as to the ingredients and not ordered it.
I think putting any of the blame for the restaurant shooting on negative Yelp reviews is just wrong. While the reviews may (or may not) have bothered the restaurant owner, he is still ultimately responsible for his own actions and the "blame" lies strictly on him. He and the cook could have worked things out differently, including the cook finding employment elsewhere.
I can understand the city's concerns with the unlicensed homeless shelter. I can also understand why he doesn't just open up the other part(s) of the house to them, which might comply if he let them sleep in the living room and/or any spare bedrooms, and limited occupancy to the legal limit for the home. He "knows them well" but doesn't apparently trust them well enough to let them into his own living quarters. Is a puzzlement. WWJD?
I am hoping that the brutal cold won't last the whole winter. Some places might well run out of gas. If electric weren't so expensive, it would make me wish for the house I grew up in, which was one of the popular, at the time, "all electric" newfangled houses.
I would never want to be a PetSmart groomer. Imagine having to deal with animals of all sorts of temperament and not, presumably, being able to partially sedate them! If I had animals that needed grooming, I'd take them to my vet, who also offers grooming service, and specifically allow partial sedation if necessary, I think. Not that my pets would likely need that.
I found the posts to be strange or weird, I thought the Curcumin item to be very interesting. It is also possible that it might work well fro one kind of cancer and not another type. There is also the possibility of a placebo effect ?parityanimal wrote: »I occasionally buy bags of grocery store meatballs, and used to buy BIG bags from Sam's. I presume CostCo has big bags too, but haven't actually looked for them. While they are nice for a snack or even to make spaghetti and meatballs, I just find them too much of a temptation when they are around. I will tend to zap half a dozen on a whim and eat them with ketchup, even if I don't NEED to eat anything. So it's rare for me to buy them and I only do it when I want a special treat. I don't think it would be a good idea for me to buy the giant bag at all. LOL.parityanimal wrote: »Howdy y'all. It's satisfying Saturday!
21 out there now with an expected high of 38. No chance of precipitation.
Might actually get out to the store today for a few things.
You are so lucky with temperatures compared to here. There is a chance we might get mixed precipitation Monday and It looks like at least a two week stretch of below freezing that started at Christmas and might end this upcoming Monday or Wednesday.

As I sit here thinking thru my replies, I have a cat sitting beside me, yowling his fool head off. Little goof ball..he's already had 'cat time' on my lap in the rocker, he's eaten, and against my better judgement he's been outside, what else????
Oh, my word...any intelligent Vegan would have known that pizza has cheese on it. Even a 'smart' Vegan would have known to ask...I think the whole thing is BS, but that the cook should have known better than the post she made on fb. This kind of thing is exactly why I, and a whole bunch of former Vegans will not identify with Vegan. There are many groups at least online that identify as Whole Food Plant Based...which is a mouthful, but more accurate in its description.
Meatballs...I was never particularly into meatballs. Perhaps because my Mom never made them? but whatever, I've bought frozen when the 'littles' wanted Gram's meatball sandwiches. I will also admit to buying them fresh from the hot bar at WF. Tried one, and I have to admit it was delicious! So, go figure!
Saw my "hello Valerie" from Roger....usually that means I didn't post...went back and checked, because I was certain I had at least written a post...and indeed it did post a bit after 1p.m. yesterday! Nothing earthshaking so no be deal... and I did indeed go O's gymnastics class last night. It was cold., but I and all the others wore our coats so we were comfy til we went outside after....
I though You might find the vegan post interesting. The idiots are out there everywhere You go.
The ones from the Hot food bar are tasty to me. They had some Tomato sauce in with them so when I slice them to heat I use some of that to enhance the taste.
I wonder if I missed Your post somehowcurcumin....the active ingredient in Turmeric..interesting article...but. As Ed mentioned studies need to be done. And some have been done..but mostly from the anti-inflamatory angle. Its hard to get the money to do studies on fruits, vegetables, spices, etc. because they cannot be patented, so the drug mfg's etc. aren't interested. Sad but true. Money speaks louder than cures these days.
I think I mentioned several times already, but I am more than ready for warm spring breezes and blooming flowers, butterflies, and baby birds!!
Oh, and I vote with Ed...loved the kitten in the blinds and Mom looking like she'd like to disown him! (or her)
Clock just chimed 11..which is correct, FINALLY! The battery was losing power, and its been 'off' by several hours for days now...replaced the battery, and fiddled with it til it had the right time, and the correct number of chimes....so, got that little chore done.
I think I will 'vacation' indoors today. Like a rainy day at the beach...read a book, do a puzzle, anything except going outside...which it turns out was all that Tom E. wanted. Crazy Cat!!
Later...
My battery powered clocks usually seem to run on time until they suddenly stop. I have one by me here that can chime if I were to put batteries in the chime battery compartment.

Hi
I'm back from walking this Morning. The temperature this morning was 2 on the porch and 5 on the cable news channel. Thus it was colder but no worse walking as there was no wind
I am running late today, Yesterday My brother had a slight flicker in hi screen on the desktop computer. Today It was not working so I dragged out a spare Video Card that I had replaced on my computer as it worked great with Windows 7 and not well with Windows 10. That card meant I had to change the power supply to get the 6 pin power for it. Then Still no Joy so I brought in the Spare unused TV that has a VGA connection and Voila success. I left the old video card out as the cooling fan on it was not running and I was sure it would die sooner or later. The New Power supply is a spare Seasonic higher efficiency unit so I left it in too.
The General Tso's Chicken that my brother brought home from the Quick Chek seems to be a new item for them. I had two of them and they were OK, Looking at the Nutrition info on the box I see that the two I ate were 93 calories. I adjusted my noon snack to accommodate them. When I got on the scale this morning No Problem

You are lucky with Your weather forecast IMO, Our is that tomorrow it warm up and the Precipitation is described as Mix. To me that means that with the ground as cold as it is that the Mix will freeze into a icy surface on the very cold roads and sidewalks.parityanimal wrote: »I noticed that the croissants in the video were made with margarine instead of butter. Interesting, I never knew that about Croissants in France. I wonder how they are doing after the reports I saw that they were having rising butter prices due to high demand and a lower supply.

Hi Valerie0 -
Good Morning!
Laundry ready for the dryer, cat has returned from his morning 'escape'..(2) but the kitchen needs a good bit of attention. Also missed breakfast mostly. (ate an apple), and since it will be above freezing from noon onward today, I may just go 'shopping'...need to stop at Aldi, and could use some cat food, also some lower cost SF candies...(handy for after meal when you've still got that 'need something more' syndrome

I agree Roger, ferrel cats do mostly survive cold weather...but not as 'lone' cats. Usually in groups or colonies..and Tom E. has two counts against him, he is a loner cat, and he is accustomed to indoor weather protection. When it was Tom, Hoot, and Sweeny they'd huddle together nest down in the straw I'd put on the back porch (barn, according to my kids!!), and I knew they'd be fine...Hoot and Tom were not buddies, so after Sweeny was gone I'd bring those two indoors. They ignored, but closely watched or were at least aware of each others presence. Now that its just Tom...no way could I leave him outside all night. Also there is the issue of coyote, and now some crazed owl(s) attacking small animals and some people??? That's just crazy!
I went to the sliding door earlier to see if Tom E wanted to come back inside...and the swing was wildly shaking, so I knew he'd just exited the porch...and I saw him or a 'streak' of him tearing thru the yard. Have no idea what he was after...also had no idea he could move so fast anymore!
Read an interesting article this morning on Turmeric and sesame seed this morning. I may just add sesame to my diet...meaning, seeds or non-toasted sesame oil, or tahini...yeah!! Tahini!! Here comes the Hummus!! Article sorta made sesame seed out as a great way to reduce blood pressure, reduce inflamation (especially when also eating turmeric), and a laundry list of other issues. I should send you a link...might interest your brother, heck it played some role in T2D, though I admit I did not read that section (bad researcher!!!)

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday! 30 out there now with an expected high of 36. 90 percent chance of precipitation beginning with freezing rain/ice and changing to rain. I'm not planning to go anywhere today.
J got home last night. I had pizza waiting for him. I cooked for pretty much the whole two weeks he was gone but last night felt like pizza. Turns out he dined out (or delivery) every night he was gone, as family didn't cook at all!
He ate pizza last night but he says he's about pizza'd out so I guess I'll be finishing off the pizza.
It's Domino's, and it's pretty good. $5.99 each for two medium two topping pizzas, and one was "upgraded" to a specialty pizza for just $2.00 more.
I upgraded to a Pacific Veggie specialty with lots of veggies, and made the other one two toppings of just additional cheeses, Provolone and Parmesan Asiago. So we had meatless Sunday instead of Meatless Monday, though it rather seems we'll be having meatless Monday too, since I'll be finishing off the leftover pizza. J would have meatless every day regardless.
We had some frozen leftover Thai food that he can have for lunch and probably dinner while I'm finishing off the pizza, which I had some of for breakfast.
Laundry probably needs to be done, since he's back.

A Cobb County woman is afraid to let her dogs outside after one was attacked by an owl, she told Channel 2 Action News.
Deborah Johnson said she had let her two dachshunds out Saturday about 10 p.m. when the bird swooped in at Gabe, the larger of the two dogs.
“For a few seconds there, I did not know what was going on,” said Johnson, who lives off Post Oak Tritt Road.

The 71-year-old woman said she tried to get the owl off Gabe.
“As soon as I touched the owl, he got on me,” she told WSB-TV.
Johnson said she was knocked down and tussled with the owl, which she said had grabbed the heel of her shoe. She thinks it went on for 20 seconds before it flew off.
“I was kicking as hard as I could,” Johnson said.
The arm she fell on is sore, but both her dogs are fine, she said. Johnson just wants folks to be mindful of owls.
“Don’t underestimate what those animals can do with those dogs,” she said.

Our forecast was for rain/ice/snow and temps around freezing for a High. I just went to get the mail and it appears that we had little ice balls fall from the sky, not deep, just enough so far to turn the ground and cars white. I may or may not head out walking in the morning (Tuesday) or I may hold off and go out later than usual as it is supposed to warm up for Tuesday and the rest of the week.
I have seen Domino's advertising the same deal around here. I have not tried them in many years and as I remember it the crust appeared to have been pre-manufactured and par baked when I did try it many moons ago. Have their Pizzas improved since those days back in the 80s or 90s ?
I had a craving for Thai the other Sunday and when I went to have some I discovered that they only open for Dinner on Sundays so I ended up overeating a Hot Turkey with Dressing, Potatoes, Soup, Salad, Soft breadsticks Senior meal at the Diner
If that was the senior size I would hate to see how large the non senior portions are.
FWIW I should have had the two Pork Chop Senior meal, there would have been less starches.
Before I forget, I have seen them advertising the water powered flashlight on TV.

Thank You for the article. I suspect that the Dog looked like food to the Owl.
Speaking of Potus, I have seen some news articles where the genius post by Trump set people off on a rant against him.
Like or hate Trump, He did it and is president and it is only for three more years. I wish People would just get over it and move on with their life. The country will survive, It has survived more than one terrible president in the past.

Looked at those cartoons and had to laugh...bagels all over the place in one of them...what a mess!, and the cat that someone caught mid leap onto the Cat Tower. Talk about a lucky click of the camera.
Later...
With some of the Photos timing is everything.
Did I ever mention that back in the 80s or 90s, I'm not sure which off the top of my head I had a pickup of frozen Breads to make at a factory in Brooklyn, NY. The frozen breads were raw, unproofed types of breads. They also delivered baked products to stores and brought back unsold day old breads.
Anyway I was there and I saw this open top truck where the driver was taking barrels of dry bread and dumping them in the truck, walking on the ones already in it. When I asked what they did with that bread, Farm feed came to my mind. He said they got turned into Bread Crumbs, Yuck.
I have been off of bread crumbs since then.
Enjoy Your Evening

Hi
I'm back from walking this Morning. The temperature this morning was 21 on the porch and 28 on the cable news channel. The weather moved in yesterday with a light fall of icy pellets. The temperature is forecast to be in the 40s later today. Despite the ice pellets that fell yesterday the walking was OK.
I just changed the battery in my little Fitbit Zip, when I looked at it before to see my steps for the morning I noticed it was showing a little Icon of a battery with a slash through it
Luckily the lat time I ordered batteries for it I got a two 6 card package of Duracell batteries for it that equaled 12 of the 2025 batteries it uses.
