Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! Happy Thanksgiving! 1C/33F with an expected high of 15C/59F, and 0% chance of precipitation.

I need to feed the cats and clean up yesterday's cat bowls. And I need to sweep some floors, maybe mop a little, and vacuum in the master bath and master bedroom. I haven't actually heard from ANY of the potential guests but rather expect that S will call or text sometime this morning to inquire about the timing for the feast. I wasn't really expecting the others, but one never knows. Other than the floor needing sweeping/mopping the kitchen is basically ready for guests. And, of course, the rest of the food prep for today is waiting. The stuffing crumbs are on the counter along with the turkey stock (in a carton) so I just need to chop the onion and get that going, though I'll probably add additional sage, garlic, and poultry seasoning, with, perhaps, a bit of coarsely ground black pepper.

The most fun part is that J started letting Orion out for supervised prowling, even WITH the other cats out now, starting yesterday, and it may be difficult to leave him in the hall bathroom all day today. He is house trained, but not KITCHEN trained and I shudder to think what a disaster he could be in the kitchen on Thanksgiving. I told J yesterday that Orion really has to stay in the bathroom for that. Even though he's just been brushed, I'm sure he would be contributing more than just long, black, feline hairs to the festivities. I don't need a kitten jumping around the kitchen trying to help me carve meat, stir gravy, etc. It didn't take too long to get Oliver kitchen trained but he was a fast study. Kiara is still not entirely kitchen trained as she still wants to get up on that one counter by the sink and knock off anything that is there. I keep foil on the edge of that one so she, and the foil, will come tumbling back down if she tries and she sees the foil from the floor. It keeps her off, though J and I hate having it there.

I am curious, Did You make a No cook Cranberry sauce or the cooked type ? Orange Zest or juice with pulp or ?

Browning of the rolls, I suppose we could find some sort of brown and serve rolls at the local convenience store or this morning from the Grocery store before they close early.

Frozen veggie Lasagna or something being heated from a hot food bar ?
I would not have thought that Garlic Cheese Toast would be hard to make from scratch. The ones I have tried from the local Pizza places have all been something I would not reorder so...

I made my usual, very simple, cooked cranberry sauce from whole cranberries. I didn't put any orange in this one at all, though I could have used some of the orange juice from the refrigerator. This one is just a 12 ounce package of cranberries, a cup (plus a little more) of granulated Stevia sweetener, and a cup of water. All boiled together for 10 to 12 minutes in the microwave, in a LARGE bowl as it foams up quite a bit while the berries are popping. Then place the sauce in a smaller, serving bowl, cover, and refrigerate overnight.

Sometimes I make a cranberry/citrus relish using an orange or some kumquats. That can be really nice with kumquats but it does take more sweetener then. This year, remember, lazy (or semi-lazy) Thanksgiving. LOL.

I call it "browning" as I think the Sister Schubert Parker House rolls are probably mostly cooked before being frozen. They may not be, as they do require a bit of time in the oven, but don't really get much bigger when cooked. So I may not be just browning the rolls, but actually baking them. They are in the bottom of the refrigerator, thawed, and ready to go.

I think this is the final installment of Mr. Wolfe's taste testing of frozen Thanksgiving dinner alternatives. He refers to it as the fifth, but I don't imagine he'll do any more and this is the latest one on his YouTube page.

Both were frozen. Aldi does not have a hot food bar. I often make garlic cheese toast myself, if I have a suitable bread on hand, but find some of the frozen ones to be quite decent, and easier to prepare.

Wine 4 oz., Approx. Calories 90

    ROFLMAO!

That sounds VERY SENSIBLE but, honestly, not very realistic, at least for me. The dietician at my endocrinology specialist's office says to, within reason, just blow Thanksgiving (and Christmas) off and eat what you want. Then get back on track after the big days.

M2Marsh's dinner suggestions sound delicious, and filling, and I'm sure if someone dished that up for me and I didn't see how much more food was available, I'd be mostly satisfied with it, but would really be hankering for some more stuffing, if nothing else! For me, Thanksgiving is all about the turkey and stuffing!

I suppose from her version I could omit the sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes, and possibly the cranberry sauce, to add in that many calories worth of additional stuffing (maybe some of them could go toward more turkey) to help with my satisfaction index. :) And, if I skipped the ham too, well that much more turkey and/or stuffing!

Let me break the suggestions above down, for me anyway...

Turkey (white meat) 3 oz, Approx. Calories 133 - NOT ENOUGH TURKEY for me. At least twice that.

Ham (fat trimmed) 3 oz, Approx. Calories 150 -- HIGH sodium - POSSIBLY enough, but probably more.

Mashed potatoes 1/4 cup , Approx. Calories 75 - 1/4 cup would just tick me off. Skip this entirely.

Stuffing 1/4 cup, Approx. Calories 90 - HAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, right...try at least half a cup to a whole cup.

Gravy 1/4 cup, Approx. Calories 25- Might be enough, as I only really need that on the stuffing.

Sweet potatoes 1/4 cup , Approx. Calories 100 - I do like these, but usually skip. No one else here eats them.

Green Beans (steamed) 1 cup , Approx. Calories 40 - Eat all I want! But a cup is probably more than I'll eat.

Cranberry sauce 2 Tbsp., Approx. Calories 40 - Sounds about right.

Roll (no butter) 1, Approx. Calories 90 - Either have with butter or skip it. I lately tend to skip the roll(s).

Pumpkin Pie (no whip) 1/8 of an 8" pie, Approx. Calories 190 -Half that, and the same of pecan pie, with whip.

Wine 4 oz., Approx. Calories 90 - I COULD do that. Usually at least 8 oz. if not 12 oz.

So...let's total her suggestions vs. my usual reality, except that even with my reality, some skipped things WILL be eaten if they are available. You know how it is with some things. You don't miss them that much if they aren't there but by golly, if they are there, you can't resist them and will definitely eat them.

Hers, to be fair, does allow at least a couple of bites of most of the major Thanksgiving favorites, though some people would add an appetizer (or two), possibly a green bean casserole instead of steamed green beans, maybe a broccoli rice cheese casserole as well, and possibly a second dessert, as I did, but by halving the size of the dessert slices.

133 + 150 + 75 + 90 + 25 + 100 + 40 + 40 + 90 + 190 + 90 = approximately 1,023 calories with no breakdown of carbs, sodium, fat, etc., which might be nice to have. NOT BAD for a holiday meal, and still leaves room for another couple of small meals/snacks over the course of the day without really breaking the eating plan by too much.

For my USUAL (but not necessarily this year) sort of reality, at a minimum, as I might indulge in more of some things or even add a cookie, we have (not including unknown calories from additional sugar in pecan pie or in the whipped topping, whatever amount of butter I put on the roll, and assuming a meager 3/4 cup of stuffing):

266 of turkey (heck, let's just round that up to 300) + 300 of ham + 270 of stuffing (heck let's just round that one up to 300 too) + 25 of gravy (OK...realistically, let's say 50 with that much stuffing) + 20 of green beans ( I'm not going to eat a whole cup of them at Thanksgiving, but maybe half a cup) + 40 of cranberry sauce + 150 of roll (estimate, with butter) + 250 of pie (estimate with the higher sugar of pecan pie and a small quantity of whipped topping) + 180 of wine + probably 100 of cookie(s) = approximately 1690, with, again, realistically probably closer to 2000 since I may eat more stuffing and possibly a second roll, with butter, and maybe another cookie or two.

So...mine is somewhere between about half again her count, to nearly (or possibly more than) twice her count, but it is just once a year. If one is on a loss plan, my meal would have to be the ONLY meal of the day and is still too much food, according to plan. Being diabetic I'm not having just one meal on the day, as I have to spread that out some, so yeah, I'm with my dietician on this one. Just blow it off. Eat what I want, within reason, and back on track the next day. This does not mean, of course, to eat the whole pan of stuffing or a whole pie. Maybe the whole turkey. LOL.

    Good Morning! Happy Thanksgiving!
Loved all the posts. Hungry NOW! And I think I'll hit the shower first. Been busy doing a bit of Holiday Shopping online. Had some sweet coupons that were good for today only! Hey...saved myself some money. Meanwhile cat has been fed and cried to go out...so he's out! I ate my banana. Funny about my banana breakfast..some days I'm completely happy til 1 oclock...other days...like today...already I'm thinking about eating!

I think I'm with Ed and the dietician...blow the day off. Depending on how Jenn makes the sides. I may have a lot of stuffing..or none, Pretty sure I won't be having mashed potatoes, but I offered to make sweet potatoes..and was told someone was bringing them. No doubt there will be Brussels Sprouts...hope they haven't thought up a way to mess those up. And, that should hold me. If there's anything else...oh, wait..salad being brought by the Bunny herself....so theres that. I will def. eat some of Ted's pies. I tried the pumpkin pie that I bought...nasty. Not sweet, not spicy, really bland. So, will do a different store pie next year. Anyhow, that pie (yes from Kroger bakery) went to the trash. Hate to waste good food,....that however was not GOOD food, and not worth wasting calories on something like that.

Meanwhile, I'm doing a simple salad. Not spending the morning chopping 10+ veggies to put in the salad...its mixed greens, Mandarin Orange, some red onion rings, pomegranate pips, and I'll toast some walnuts for anybody that wants them. Top it off with Orange Miso dressing, (Kroger Simple Truth Organic). I've been eating that and its tasty. :)

Sunny, looks like a nice day not very warm though. And Jack is planning to light up his fire pit. We, gonna freeze our buns off!! (unless of course we back up to the fire...LOL). I should have gotten stuff to make S'mores for the kids, and totally forgot.. oh, well...they won't really NEED them will they?

Trees look like they're about 80% down. And I made the mistake of looking at the pine trees yesterday...good grief. I'll be up to my ankles in pine straw...which is not a bad thing mind you. Keeps me from having to buy bales from Home Depot!

I've about worn out the computer with listening to Alice's Restaurant. :):)

Did either of you happen to see the flight patterns of planes in the air yesterday??? So glad I had both feet on the ground. You couldn't see the map from the east, thru ATL and then gulf coast and up the Pacific coast...I was also relieved that none of the ATL inbound's landed on my roof!! Unbelievable!!

Roger I went to the web site...but all I saw was your posts??? Did I do something wrong?

Ok, time is going fast...and so far I haven't even wished family, let alone friends Happy T. really gotta go...

    Later...

    Home made cranberry sauce.

    The wine was fine.

And dessert! S did arrive in time for dinner and he and I shared a slice of the cheesecake, while J had a whole slice. I sent some food home with S too, so he can get another meal from it. Plenty of cornbread dressing left. Quite a bit of J's special vegetarian light bread dressing too.

Hi, Going back to how I had been doing it unless I get another warning that post is being held for moderation to approve it.

I'm back home from walking and once again nothing found. The Temperature out the door was 12 degrees. The weather feels more like Mid winter in temperature. Yesterday broke some record cold temperatures and The 12 degrees will be breaking records too. According to the weather forecasts I saw Yesterday came in as the second coldest Thanksgiving day.

Thanksgiving Day was Good with one exception, That Exception being the overeating.
I ended up eating Buttered Egg Noodles, Mashed Potatoes and Bread Stuffing with some butter melting into them and smothered in Home Made Gravy. Sprouts and Asparagus Deviled Eggs that came out really tasty, A relish tray, And of course Home Made Pumpkin Pie. I passed on the Home Made Whipped Cream and never did get to the Home Made Cranberry sauce. Turkey Breast in my case covered in Gravy too.
Yikes, I will need until Christmas to fully recover I suspect. Then Come Two Holiday meals a week apart.
Later today or Tomorrow I plan on breaking down the Turkey into 9 ounce packages and feed the freezer with much of it. My Brother is planning to break down the Dressing into portions and we will Vacuum seal it as well as much of the Cranberry Sauce. I think that one of the Pumpkin Pies shall be Vacuum Sealed and frozen using a Pleated Vacuum bag that can take the pie, pan and all.

    Hi Ed
We had Baked Sprouts and Asparagus as vegetables. No Ham of course, Turkey for Thanksgiving and Ham For Christmas and Pull Turkey an Ham out of the freezer for the New Years Day meal. I did not come close to staying with Michelle's suggestions, This morning I wish I had. Mac & Cheese or Lasagna were never served in our family for holiday meals. Enough calories in the bread stuffing
That reminds me, no brown and serve rolls or any other bread or rolls, Enough bread in the stuffing.

FWIW I agree, Thanksgiving is all about the turkey and Stuffing
For my USUAL (but not necessarily this year) sort of reality, at a minimum, as I might indulge in more of some things or even add a cookie, we have (not including unknown calories from additional sugar in pecan pie or in the whipped topping, whatever amount of butter I put on the roll, and assuming a meager 3/4 cup of stuffing):

As long as it is dietician approved, what the heck. As you said, if her meal was being served to the table most people would be more than happy with it. I could feel the overeating of carbs in my feet believe it or not.

Our Turkey was tender and moist, So much juice cooked out that it filled the roaster to an inch below the rim, I think that helped keep the turkey moist. I am pondering putting some gravy in each Vacuum bag when I portion out the Turkey Breast into them.
Well, it was all pretty good. I could have found better, more tender turkey and ham but they were all right. Lilo liked the turkey.

I'm not surprised that it came out watery TBH, I am guessing that cure for watery involves some sort of binder that will absorb the liquid.
And more sides. Got the deviled eggs a bit on the salty side too.

    Home made cranberry sauce.

    The wine was fine.

The Egg Noodles were cooked in the broth from boiling the Giblets, the remaining broth was added to with the liquid from the roaster and that was turned into the gravy.

That worked! Are there others who also want to read the headlines?

I hope the cancer killing virus succeeds. If I were a passenger and had to chip in to pay for repairs before taking off I would be extremely *KITTEN*ed off! Isn't that what part of the ticket cost is for? Sheesh!
I do post the links to a couple of other message threads.

I hope it becomes a good cure to cancer too.

I think You are browning them too, that also makes them warm enough to let the butter melt into the rolls.

Our Cranberry sauce is cooked on the stove and the berries popped and left in the sauce.
I think this is the final installment of Mr. Wolfe's taste testing of frozen Thanksgiving dinner alternatives. He refers to it as the fifth, but I don't imagine he'll do any more and this is the latest one on his YouTube page.
And once we are finished with all the Thanksgiving leftovers, we are probably broke and need some cheap food. Here's home made Filipino food on a budget!
I think I would pass, never having had Filipino food that I know of.
And for Valerie, here's the BEST EVER vegan egg salad recipe. At least that's the claim.
That does look like Egg Salad, I wonder how closely it tastes.

I will be looking at the Videos later

    Good Morning! Happy Thanksgiving!
Loved all the posts. Hungry NOW! And I think I'll hit the shower first. Been busy doing a bit of Holiday Shopping online. Had some sweet coupons that were good for today only! Hey...saved myself some money. Meanwhile cat has been fed and cried to go out...so he's out! I ate my banana. Funny about my banana breakfast..some days I'm completely happy til 1 o clock...other days...like today...already I'm thinking about eating!

    Hi Valerie
Sprouts could be ruined for you is they are buttered or in a butter sauce.

I also hate wasting food, OTOH if it is disgusting I have been know to chuck food too, Not often however.

The Homemade Pumpkin pie would likely suit You as it had plenty of spices in it and was tasty.

I like Pomegranate seeds, If only they did not have so much that is not pulp. I like my Onions in Onion Rings, Sauteed or fried crispy. Chopped into small pieces on a sandwich, Raw onion rings are to much in one place. I do like Mandarin pieces and nuts in a salad.

    Later...
I doubt that computer is worn out, I do wonder If You have External speakers or if a tablet/laptop if You just use the built in speakers.

I'm not sure, there should have been a bit more, for now I have gone back to the old way unless a post needs moderator approval.

I did not look at flight patterns. Since I do not fly I do not have that much interest in them beyond a little bit of interest in delays.

    Have a Nice Day

Howdy all y'all. It's fabulous Friday! 4C/39F with an expected high of 8C/47F and 20% chance of precipitation.

I need to feed the cats and clean yesterday's cat bowls. I may need to get out to the grocery for milk. Breakfast was some leftover turkey, stuffing, ham, and gravy (on the stuffing) as you might have expected.
I might run a load of whites and towels.

Orion is still busy exploring the house. He didn't eat much of his food overnight but he HAS opened the food bowl in there, at least twice that I saw it happen. I expect when I feed the cats this morning the little light bulb will flash over his head that his food is now in the new spot and he doesn't need to get into the hall bathroom to get it, as he's moved out into the larger world.

There was quite a bit of hissing and posturing last night when all the cats were herded into the master suite for the night. We don't want them wandering the whole house and annoying the sugar gliders, who are mostly nocturnal. Bonnie couldn't care less about the cats (though with her long tail, she SHOULD be at least a little worried one might get hold of it, if she let's it dangle out of the cage) but Clyde is terrified of the cats and goes a little crazy in the cage if the cats are too near, especially if they seem too interested in him.

Something in between would be more appropriate for them both, if they could learn it...caution but not panic.
