    Crunchy Sugar Balls
8 ounces of semi sweet chocolate bits
3 tablespoons of light corn syrup
    1/4 cup of orange juice
    1/4 cup whiskey ( I used Bourbon + 1 tbs.)
    2 1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers ( 9 or 10 ounces)
    1/2 cup powdered sugar
    1 cup nutmeats, finely chopped

Melt chocolate pieces over hot ( not boiling ) water, remove from heat; add corn syrup, orange juice, and whiskey. mix.
combine the vanilla wafers, powdered sugar, and nutmeats.
Add to the chocolate mixture and mix well.
Let stand about 30 minutes. Then form into 1 inch balls and roll in granulated or powdered sugar.
Let the sugar balls ripen in a covered container at least several days. ( approximately 4 1/2 dozen )

We followed the heating directions on the bag of Chocolate for heating in the Microwave being careful not to heat it for to long as it can seize up. I heated for 75% of the time, stirred the Chocolate and then finished heating it.

The first batch we had Pecans so we used those, I have picked up English Walnuts for the upcoming second batch :)

FWIW We used a Food Processor to turn the Vanilla Wafers into crumbs and to chop the nuts, Labor saving is never a bad thing.

    Enjoy
    Roger

P.S. We have found it easiest to use a small melon baller to form the balls and then have the sugar on a baking sheet and drop the ball there and then roll them around to get a even coating of Powdered Sugar, then let sit a little while before storing them.

    good morning!

Glad you found some change! I guess your weather will be not quite mild, but maybe not as annoyingly cold either, Lol! Kudos for going out in it!! <3

I suspect you are quite right, some freak is posting their destruction of the footprints for bragging rights. I am assuming they had dumb parents that forgot to teach them a few things in the 1 yr. to 5 year age level.

The belfies are a stupid trend. I actually would not appreciate being subjected to it all the time, that is what porn is for, and they can post away!....lol! It is one thing to have it as a one time joke, but entirely different to be doing it everywhere. One of the first things you learn in traveling and living overseas in the AF is customs, and not to offer offence to your host country. It is fine with me if they get jailed. I hope they do! :D And to do that with a sacred place for a culture is just gross. Only Americans are often so entitled and spoiled they think they have the right to do that. Of course that is just me... but serious on lack of respect in the U.S. :s

Well, Chester has barked non stop this morning. He barked all night and I put him in the bathroom and shut the door. He was quiet finally a few hours from exhaustion I guess.. That is when May May and I slept. About 3 hours if we were lucky. I have to fight him for him to take his meds, go out, drink water, eat (which he isn't) and about anything else. I am not sure how we will manage till Tuesday. He is just kind of insane... I hope he can get back to normal for a bit at some point. Otherwise I am just torturing him for the end of his life. I had so needed this week to be my retreat kind of week end. Not sure constant barking, shrieking and whining is the same......Christmas humbug!!! :/

    Hi Jan
I think of things like that destruction and the fact that so many kids these days are in a one parent situation due to the destruction of the traditional marriage that the one parent there is works or in a two parent family that they both work :(

When I read about things like those Belfies I am not amazed that the term "Ugly American" is used. These spoiled people are shocked when they get arrested and imprisoned for doing things they can get away with in our too liberal society.

I'm sorry about Your lack of sleep.

I hope that today's humor helps.
You seem to have a well stocked pantry :)

I bought some Stocking stuffers at the Dollar Store while I was out walking, Things I know my brother can use such as a couple of large Calendars and Decorated Boxes he can Reuse with the things he bakes and hands out. When I was there I bought a quart of 1% milk for next years use, With a use by date of Nov. 21, 2018

I was in the local grocery store buying a can of crushed Pineapple to use on the Ham when it is baked tomorrow. They had a couple brands of Panettone on a shelf. I also picked up some Sliced Roast Beef off of the clearance area that I have popped into the Freezer section for use as the protein portion later next week or the week after. One was $0.73, the second was $1.47 and the third was $0.94....

I have had the bargain cuts before and they were good so I figured what the heck :)

    Have a Good Christmas Eve

    Merry Christmas!

Hope it is merry and bright!! :)

Look at you finding a dollar bill and change! Pretty cool! I plan on wearing my heatable eye mask I got for some relaxing shut eye!
I have been munching on a cheese ball and crackers since Friday nite. Nice because- no cooking!! :p

Chester has intermittent periods of sleep and howling. He has given up walking, which is a slight problem for me. I have trouble getting down so often for his meds. Carrying him too all the time is a problem. He is getting weaker. Wish vets still made portable visits! He ate his peanut butter pills and drank water. Always good..

It is dark and cloudy here, and very quiet. I watched the new Ben Hur movie. Not as good as the original (of course!!), more like a companion movie, kind of like a companion book. The end did feature Christ some. Always good as it is The Tale of the Christ, lol. Only Hollywood... :*

Great humor and articles. Poor Subway!

Have a wonderful Christmas Day! Enjoy it all! I am headed for some amaretto and sweet and sour mix! o:) Jan

I'm back from walking this Morning + 1 somewhat corroded Dime, Whee. Yesterdays damp Dollar Bill and the previous bills I had found were all found the morning after a overnight rain :)
The temperature this morning was 36 on the porch and 36 on the cable channel. The overnight snow or rain that was forecast to be gone by sunup was rain in this area although I did get blasted by a few icy pellets on the way back home as the wind picked up.

Hope you had a great Christmas. :)

Ours is cold, 36 deg. but sunny. I had about 3 hrs sleep. Ready for any nap time. :D

Cheese ball was cheddar, mild and sharp combo and creme cheese, hot sauce, a little grated onion and garlic and also pecans, which I added to the mix rather than roll, so you get some in every bite. Not bad..almost gone!

Did you get afternoon snow later in the day?

    Hi Jan
You are still warmer than what we are running here. The forecast is for below freezing for the next 7 days with some of the overnights in the single digits.

Ah Ha! I had thought You had one of the commercial Cheese Balls, possibly from Hickory Farms not Home made :)
That makes sense to me to work the nuts into it, Just as almost everything goes better with Bacon. Baked Goods 99% of the time are better with Nuts, Possibly 100% of the time TBH.

I noticed that there was not nearly as much traffic as usual :)
Even the local news channel is on a Weekend type schedule compared to a normal Tuesday.

We did not get any snow here however a short distance to the North in NJ they had a White Christmas.

I'm glad to hear You enjoyed the Spike Jones, I enjoyed hearing it again after all the years since I last heard it.

    Have a Good Day

    Good morning Two!! :#

I wrote in phases today. I did get a good night sleep somewhat unfortunately. We put Chester to sleep yesterday. My daughter carried him for me to the vet and he went peacefully, though I am afraid he suffered mentally the days before and I waited longer than I should have. Even though he was old and frail, he was stubborn and a fighter and loved still being here, so I did not make the best choice in the long run. I also realized my limits of what I can physically do- being older and overweight were not to his advantage at all. I just could give him limited care as he was on the floor, and I had a time treating and loving on him. A bummer. But most of his life was good and pampered, as much as he would let me... <3:'(

    Hi
I'm back from walking this Morning, It was a bit of a chilly to say the least. The temperature this morning was 21 on the porch and 20 on the cable channel. Yesterday I mentioned to my Brother that I was fighting the WWII battle, The Battle of the bulge ever since the Three Feasts Holiday starting with Thanksgiving, Christmas and the upcoming New Years Day meal. His answer was that he was fighting the same battle :)

The overnight lows are forecast to be in the single digits with a wind chill taking it down to zero :( They are still forecasting Snow for Saturday with the forecast models indicating not much to a significant amount.

    Hi Jan
I'm sorry to hear that You had to do that :(
Sometimes You have to do the hard things.

As for the 911 call, Look at this one that happened back in 2013
    https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/911-Calls-Cable-Outage-Fairfield-County-Connecticut-Police-220223561.html
Police in Connecticut say frantic residents called 911 after their cable went out Sunday, and authorities were not happy.

    Later in the article
In one conversation, the caller says "hi, I am just trying to figure out what's going on. We have no TV."

The dispatcher reminds her that 911 is for "life-threatening emergencies."

"I know that, I know that," the caller says.

When asked whether she has such an emergency, she says, "no, we're just trying to find out what's going on."

The Holiday was good here except for the overeating of the food. I had way to much of the Mashed Potatoes and the Ham as well as the Pumpkin Pie topped with gobs of homemade Whipped Cream :(

It was cold yesterday and colder today, I usually head out with the heated mittens on low and bump them up to medium as needed later on in the walk today low was not good enough so I went to Medium and then to high fairly quickly, Tomorrow is supposed to be worse unhappily.

    Cheers

    Hi Jan
It did indeed get colder here all over NJ, In the Northern corner Is saw that they were reporting single digit temperatures and that was before the wind chill. I was out walking this morning, I did not go as far as normal, I went somewhat over 50% of my normal steps. I did look around and found the Merino Wool scarf that was a gift in the past and it helped keep my neck warm filling the gap between the Body and Hood on the Hoodie I wear while walking.

    I saw this today :)

    Good morning!

It is cold here but sunny. We all just keep saying we are glad not to be up north! :D Glad you bundled properly!

I did not fall asleep til after 4:30 in the morning. Well...I should not have taken 3 motrin at 2 pm and had hot chocolate at 6:30 pm, lol!

Val, sorry that fever is not abating faster! Continued prayers!! <3

I am going out to eat tonite, probably for fried seafood. I am not looking forward to the scale! :# Back in the running around mode this week. So not what I want to do! I want several days that I can just do what I want around the house. Not happening this week!! :# I am supposed to be getting out early, but am drinking my coffee slow and not feeling motivated.

Take care with those temps so low! Loving the humor, and do not get blown off any balcony! :o ...Jan

And yet more humor, Some Holiday themed

    Hi
I'm back from walking this Morning, It was chilly to say the least. The temperature this morning was 14 on the porch and 13 on the cable channel. It could be worse the wind that was blowing yesterday has abated. There is a possibility of flurries this afternoon with either a coating to an inch or 1 to 3 inches for where I am depending on which forecast is correct :(

    Hi Jan
I suspect that it was the Hot Chocolate

Fried Seafood, Could You not go Baked instead ? Baked and also not breaded would work I'm guessing. I'm also guessing that Fried seafood is Breaded 99% of the time if not 100% ?

We do have a partly cloudy day so far with a chance of flurries in the forecast for later and some snow for Saturday, It looks so far that it will arrive after I'm back home from walking luckily.

Some days motivation needs a jump start :)

Getting blow off a balcony was a weird one.

Yesterday we were blessed, ? , a friend dropped off 5 or 6 types of homemade cookies and a neighbor brought over Hickory Farms treats and Crackers for the Cheese and Summer Salami She dropped off and Picked up some of our Home Made Fruitcake in Cupcake format as well as well Million Dollar bars and York Peppermint Patties :)

    Have a Nice Day

    Good morning!

Can you believe the New Year is coming around? So hard to believe! 2017 went so fast in my opinion I can hardly believe it! I did not make homemade cookies again this year, so that sounds really good someone contributed some. Not good for the eating lifestyle I know!! :) With church goings on I just never got to it and I sure miss them!!

Actually I could have got shrimp and/or fish broiled, baked, lemon- peppered, fried or blackened. But fry is what they do best! (this is the South, lol!) It was not healthy, but really good. These were huge, repeat, like 3 big bites huge, gulf shrimp, and they tasted super fresh. And there were eight of them. The more healthy people got salmon, and they were all different sizes, and some people's were on the dry side, and some on the barely cooked but enough to eat side. Larger group of about 25 to thirty...hard on the cook!! You also got broccoli, and I kid you not, the serving size for it has got to be about 4 cups. Covers half the plate! Makes up for the measly portion of salmon. I had broccoli coleslaw. Their steaks and burgers are really good. So is their catfish and fish tacos! I do have to go back to eating more healthy pretty soon!! :D

I can not believe you all are so cold! I do not envy you at all! Be careful in it! ...Jan

P.S. Val, Hope you are better each day!! <3

    Hi Jan
I have a suspicion that all the Salmon were cooked in one batch and different sizes explain the difference in how well they were cooked.

It does sound as if the Shrimp were a better deal. I do not recollect ever having had Broccoli Cole Slaw, it sounds interesting.
Not being a seafood eater I would likely have had the Steak and Fries, I suspect that they have fries ? Not a healthy selection either.
If I said despite the snow I feel tempted to walk the short distance to the Italian Deli, They make their own Raviolis, Cheese or Meat and Cheese Lasagna and much more not to mention the many Italian Cheeses and Handing Salamis and Other meats :)

When I arrived home I saw a stray flake or two as I approached the house, Now as I look out the window an hour later I see that the street and sidewalk has already turned white :(

    Have a Good Day

    Hi Val

    Good Morning!

It is a little chilly here, but not like where you are, lol! Sounds like a pretty snowfall if you do not have too much running around to do!!

Well, if I could, I would be tempted to follow you to that Italian Deli!! Olive Garden passes for Italian around here. I am trying to rein back the holiday eating today and have just my turkey and vegetables! I have gained more than I would have liked. :s

Good insight to the salmon cooking at the restaurant! I think you are right! :) And yes! The french fries are excellent!! Our Winn Dixie carries broccoli slaw in the vegetable section by bagged lettuce and cabbage slaw. But I forget, it is a southern market, I think. Publix and Whole Foods does too. I am surprised you have not seen it. It is a nice change, and I like it with dried cranberries and sunflower seeds, though because of the calories, you have to be careful if you eat it that way, lol! It's good plain with a healthy dressing, too! :#

Cool find on the dinosaur eggs! But did they learn nothing from Jurassic Park? I had seen the story about that lawyer's date destroying his artwork. I would be embarrassed to have that printed if I were him. They both sound dumb as can be, lol!

Get ready for the New Year!! LOL! I will be home, happy and watching a movie! No hoopla! ...Jan...Brrrr...

    I have posted more humor

    Hi
I'm back from walking this Morning, It was chilly to say the least. The temperature this morning was 12 on the porch and 15 on the cable channel. It could be worse the wind that was blowing yesterday is much lighter. The snow yesterday left around a inch here. The traction for walking this morning was fine. The Daily Highs are forecast to be lower than the normal high until at least January 8, 2018 :(
Tomorrow morning is predicted to be a lower temperature than today.
