    Hello!!

I had a weird Labor Day for me!! Jenny was having a down day, and my friend from church had her birthday Tuesday. She is the one we are helping at church. I took her to dinner on Monday, as she has not done that for years. It was her free day, not working..She was dressed so nice, it made my heart happy. The clothes she had gotten out of storage are old, but they are all expensive and timeless, and she still fits in them at 56 yrs old. She had them in her 20's. Her mom was pretty well off at the time and bought her top line clothes. Her son is a mess and going thru a divorce, though maybe not.. I think his wife got dumped with the man she was living with, so may want her husband back. My friend would love to have custody of her grandchildren. The youngest is okay at 2, but the older at about 10 years is a worldly little hoodlum already, pretty much like his dad, who is useless. A 30 year old person acting like a 17 yr old immature child. The kid's mom may be into drugs. In short, no one will celebrate this lady's B-day. She is kind of rough, but she is really trying hard. And trying to get them help, though she is a step from homeless herself. I really just enjoyed taking her out where we could relax and just talk. It was a good Labor Day. My son waited so long I had already made plans with the friend... Still trying to get my grandchild her B-day present...(eye roll at my son and daughter in law's sense as they can not make time for me....) :* Jenny and I had actually spent time out just before also. First Labor Day with no potato salad!!! The 20 oz bone in rib steak, char grilled to perfection and a loaded baked potato and salad made up for it! And I lost a lb anyway....weight gain from salty stuff the day before, lol... :#

Oh Val, bread is my downfall!!! >:)
    Glad you got some rain!!

Still envy your makings for Labor Day meal, though Roger!!

Hope it was restful for all! I will be home 1 day eventually the whole day, lol... ...Jan

San Antonio got a bit of rain yesterday...it was needed! Yesterday i ate bread...lots of bread. Back to the veggies today — collards and corn for supper.
    Hi Val
I ate too much bread yesterday and today I feel it as well as the scale not budging :(

All the Collards I ever had used bacon or ham for flavoring in them. I'm guessing You don't do that ?

Great that You got the rain You needed. I did some watering yesterday.

    Have a Nice Day

    Hi Jan
It only takes a little while for the wrong sort of person to ruin a child sadly :(
Hopefully She can get custody and un-ruin the 10 year old. Quality has a timeliness all its own.
I wish someone could say that about me that and clothes, I have no fashion sense

Wow, I'm jealous, a 20 Ounce Rib Steak and Loaded baked Potato, Yum Yum
Congratulations on the loss despite the feast.

To the bad I was up three pounds Tuesday from the Labor Day feast :(

Bread in any form, Toast, French Toast, Grilled Cheese, Grilled Cheese with bacon in the middle of the cheese, so tasty. Bread with Peanut Butter and Bananas or as PB&J
Then as the Coup De Grace Tuesday my brother brought back a unopened loaf of Rye Bread, Lunch Meats and Lunch Meats in a nice Roll. I did core most of the inside of the roll out before adding the Mayo and that is likely why this mornings weight was the same as Tuesdays. FWIW I also had a large chunk of Beef & Pork Meatloaf that was 50% off at the Grocery Store when I bought and froze it.

Yoo Hoo, My pension check arrived Tuesday afternoon, to late to do the bank run so later today an then I will have some cash once again. Both my Brothers and I had the Pension checks arrive late this month :(

    Have a Good Day

Hi Roger - you’re correct—no meat in my collards. Sometimes i add onion, this time, i just added water! Sometimes I splash lemon juice or vinegar after draining. Hi Jan! I think it is sad that a 10yo is worldly. They aren’t ready to make adult decisions...most adults aren’t either.

    Good morning,

I did get out for my meds today. It was 2.5 hours of sitting, but still free so can not complain.
So ready for a day home! Thursday will not be it either, as Jenny is picking me up so I can see their home coming football game. Only one of the season I will probably go to so just maybe I can get there. She has to get me and bring me home though as it is a dark country road and I can not see really well. Gee, I am feeling old.

Did poorly on the diet today. Stressed getting meds and just being not home so demolished a bag of chips - comfort food. And I know I shouldn't..... >:)

Bummer about the late check Roger! Though I know we are grateful we get it.Mine is the 2nd week, though I have direct deposit. It still sits pending and tempting for several days, lol...

Okay, the moose story broke my heart. That is one of the most heartbreaking stories, and I have heard plenty. That was just so wrong.... :'(

I really do not think 16 and 17 yr olds should vote...maybe just me.... :s

Collard sound good- and so would some cornbread!! I be spoiled for a Northerner..

Why have I never had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich? Oh my!! :)

I has thought so about meatless, I did wonder if You used something like a vegetable broth for flavor OTOH.

I agree, 10 YO is too young, OTOH I also think giving the vote to 16 and 17 year olds is wrong, they can IMO be influenced by teachers among others, And I could be wrong about that too. Opinions ?

I say that based on the decisions I made at that age that were not the best for me in later life.

    Hi Jan
So free meds = 2.5 hours sitting, a fair trade when You have more free time than cash

I have a feeling my brothers night vision is not what it used to be. His Daytime is Good as I know since I had my eyes checked when he had his checked, It made sense to me not to do two separate trips, same thing getting the new glasses ordered and picked up.

I Know what You mean, I should throw what is left of the one pound bag of pretzels I bought yesterday, I really wanted a single serving size and that was as small as I could find, I feel the effects today and my brother meant to grab a Beef broccoli at the Supermarket so as to not get all the breading on the Sesame Chicken which had no Sesame on it FWIW. You guessed it he brought the Sesame Chicken as a treat for me unasked. Coup De Grace for yesterdays Diet.

Better a little late than never and after going to the bank and depositing most of I now have some money again. SSI will hit on the second Tuesday for me and the Third Tuesday for my brother  That is Direct Deposit.

I agree, the Thoughtlessness of people amazes me, they should all have been charged with something.

See my comment to Val above Re the Vote.

Homemade Cornbread or even the Whole Foods Cornbread, Yummy. For where I am I suspect my Liking for Collards is unusual. One thing I never tried nor will ever try is Chittlings AKA Chitterlings.
I am sure You know but just in case
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitterlings

I thought that Grilled Cheese and Bacon was common, I guess I was mistaken. If You like Bacon You might want to try one sometime.

A local Eatery makes great ones, I usually get them as what they call "a Grilled Cheese with Bacon Deluxe Platter" that would be the Sandwich, French Fries, Some Lettuce and a small paper cup of Cole Slaw made by them.
Way to many carbs so I have had to try and curb my cravings.

Just Curious Do You have Texas Weiners down there, they are all over up here, Also Common is Pork Roll AKA Taylor Ham which fried and put in a roll with cheese is also tasty. Less Common but sold in the Grocery stores is Scrapple.
FWIW I do not eat Scrapple, Follow the link to see why
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapple

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork_roll
It is incorporated in many, including a popular breakfast sandwich known in the region as a "Jersey Breakfast", "Taylor Ham, Egg, and Cheese", or "Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese." in which fried pork roll is joined with a fried egg and American cheese and served on a hard roll, bagel or English muffin. New Jersey eateries noted for their Jersey Breakfast include Slater's in Middletown, and Starks United in Keansburg.

I wondered if Gordon was have any effect where You are, I did see videos of the flooding and destruction in some areas of the South.

Did some food shopping and went to a junior high football game. Busy day. We do not have those pork rolls down here. They sound really good! I am surprised you even get collards in Jersey...who knew!! I actually like chittlings. Have not had them in years. I have not eaten scrapple either. My grandpa did as well as head cheese. Can;t quite do that!

    Hi Jan
The Pork Rolls are Delicious
I smelled Chitterlings cooking and that was enough to put me off of them. It must have been back in the late 60s or 70s that I first had home cooked Collards brought into work by someone I worked for. His wife was a southern gal and a great cook. So they have been around for many years at least in some neighborhoods.

My father liked Head Cheese, I never could get as far as trying it forget about eating it.

The Deer are sort of spooky, they stand and watch and from not that far away, move towards them and wham they are gone.

Texas Weiners are eateries around here in many towns and the main thing they sold as I was growing up was Chili Hot Dogs topped with Meat Chili and slivered Onions, shredded Cheese to order and more options available.
    From Here
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chili_dog#Texas_wiener
    Texas wiener
In New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the "Texas hot dog", "Texas chili dog." "Texas hot'," or "Texas wiener" is a hot dog with chili or hot sauce; it is served in variations with assorted condiments. The Texas wiener was created in Paterson, New Jersey, before 1920 and in Altoona, Pennsylvania, by Peter "George" Koufougeorgas in 1918 and originally called Texas Hot Wieners. The "Texas" reference is to the chili sauce used on the dogs, which actually has a stronger Greek cuisine influence due to the ethnicity of the cooks who invented it. It is considered a unique regional hot dog style. From its origins, the invention spread to the Pennsylvania cities of Scranton and Philadelphia.

Thus Val may or may not know what they are

I could see how being to sweaty could be a problem coming into the AC, OTOH the AC feels so good

Fresh Humid air, More likely the heat and humidity takes it out of You.

I’ve not heard of “Texas Weiners.” In Cincinnati, Coneys are a big deal...chili dogs w onions. Em likes chili dogs from Sonic...but they’re called chili dogs. Do Rescues test for diseases? Well, there is no standard. Grumpy Puppy Rescue gets our dogs vet checked, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and prevention (or treatment), flea/tick prevention, deworming, and vaccinated. Many “rescues” don’t do those things. We usually have them for a couple weeks so that covers quarantine period, but we usually have them with our dogs because we don’t have facilities to separate them. I had one dog get deathly ill after he was with me a week...got vet care (unidentified internal infection). A week later, Oscar came down with same thing. Both required ER visits. We also treat for mange, roundworms, kennel cough as needed....and keep those dogs segregated from our packs if we know. No, I don’t think undr 18 or incarcerated should be allowed to vote.

    Good morning!

Still went out one day, today, to have lunch. I think I may be home Sat. I hope! Really accomplished nothing today so I will need to get something done tomorrow. I would just love to take a week off!!

Really oppressive here today. The humidity is just awful, I do not want to venture outside! I did go out to play ball with May. I must say I am A/C dependent, lol..

Interesting stories about Saturn, and awful about the rescue worker. I really wonder where that dog came from. Sometime people do not realize how when a dog puts on some weight and gets their illnesses dealt with, they can have a very different dog than when they started. I wonder how that dog was not known to possibly be aggressive or it showed some tendencies and they just got in over their heads. Very sad and frightening. Our rescues usually test the dogs they get, for illness and temperament and often get dogs they must place as only dogs. And some dogs they have had to get more professional help with. May is much more aggressive with others dogs than I would have thought. But she had food aggression and I would think that could morph into aggression as it did...but with just such subtle signs. I would think this happens more than we know.

Minors and felons voting. For once I am thinking maybe we do have some subversive plants from somewhere to bring down the U.S. I find this absolutely crazy! Pretty much 1/3 of the country has lost their minds...and I feel this is not joking....

Hang in there all! ...We're all crazy here, lol.....Jan

I did see one Deer near home on the outbound leg heading for my coffee, Approximately 1/2 way to picking up the coffee a drizzle started that turned into a steady slow rain. It was not all that comfortable under the rain poncho, then around 6 blocks from the house the rain ended.

We also treat for mange, roundworms, kennel cough as needed....and keep those dogs segregated from our packs if we know. No, I don’t think under 18 or incarcerated should be allowed to vote.
    Hi Val
I had a suspicion that despite the word Texas in the name You would not have heard of them which explains the added information I posted about "Texas Wieners"
I also have heard Hot Dogs referred to as Hot Dogs, natch, Wieners, Tube Steaks and when they come from push carts as Dirty Water Dogs as they sit in hot water to keep them hot until sold. FWIW I prefer my Grilled on the BBQ or Crispy from being heated in a skillet. Followed by Microwaved and bringing up the rear Boiled  I also like them Deep fried as in the Jimmy Buffs Italian Hot Dog that I have enjoyed from when Dad would buy us a single as a treat back when I was still in Grade School. Last time I checked they are still available too.
    http://www.jimmybuff.com/
A Jimmy Buff Italian hot dog goes on a quarter of a large roll of Italian 'Pizza' bread (sort of a fat pita). The dog is cooked in Hot Oils and then topped with sauteed Onions and peppers with deep fried chunk of precooked Potatoes.
the quarter of a roll is a single and a Double is Half a roll with twice the amount of everything

Jimmy Buff’s has been featured on the Travel Channel, State Plate with Taylor Hicks, Every Day with Rachael Ray, the Chicago Tribune and been named one of the "20 Best Hotdogs in the US" by Yahoo Food. The Italian hot dog is also a favorite of astronaut brothers and New Jersey natives, Scott and Mark Kelly who brought a Jimmy Buff’s t-shirt to the International Space Station.

I wonder if Coney's are named after New York's Coney Island Boardwalk ?

I have a suspicion that budget issues are a problem with many rescue organizations or they are just overwhelmed.
On the News last Night they covered A 15-year-old Boston Terrier named Bruna was found last weekend after managing to walk to a Walmart in Teterboro, N.J. CBS2’s Dana Tyler reports.
That was thrown from a car, Sad. One comment from the people that took care of the dog is that they are seeing a lot more old dogs these days :(
    https://newyork.cbslocal.com/video/3931203-15-year-old-deaf-and-blind-dog-dumped-in-nj/
How anyone can do that is beyond me.

    Kennel Cough ?

It sounds as if the Rescue People You Work with are good. A darn Shame that the rescue dog and Oscar came down with something that serious

I see I am not the only one that thinks voting should be a privilege and not extended to felons or under age.

    Congratulations On Your Kind Heart

    Good morning!

Still went out one day, today, to have lunch. I think I may be home Sat. I hope! Really accomplished nothing today so I will need to get something done tomorrow. I would just love to take a week off!!

Really oppressive here today. The humidity is just awful, I do not want to venture outside! I did go out to play ball with May. I must say I am A/C dependent, lol..
    Hi Jan
I like that phrase "AC Dependent" It describes me right now, The first thing I did on arriving back home this morning was turn on the AC

I thought that some of the Articles linked were really interesting, Sad about the Dog Rescue person :(

Here's a question that popped into my head, Dogs that must be placed as Only Dogs, are they aggressive otherwise ?

Interesting idea, Subversive Plants would explain some of the crazy ideas circulating around the country. This one for example from Brooklyn that is gaining traction in NJ :(
    https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2018/09/07/plan-to-dismiss-marijuana-convictions/
NEW YORK (AP) — Tens of thousands of low-level marijuana convictions could be erased with the OK of Brooklyn’s top prosecutor, under a new plan for wiping records clean of offenses no longer being prosecuted in parts of the nation’s biggest city.

District Attorney Eric Gonzalez is inviting people to request conviction dismissals. He expects prosecutors will consent in the great majority of a potential 20,000 cases since 1990 and an unknown number of older ones.

They knew what they were doing was illegal at the time and the convictions should stay on their record as they show the persons sense of morality.

Anymore I just hope things hold together wile I live :(

    Have a Nice Day

I agree with Jan that dog personalities can markedly change two weeks after stabilized. I had picked up two street dogs that were close to starving to death. They needed vet care to stop their vomiting...and yhen had voracious appetites. Everything was great until about two weeks when they suddenly became aggressive to all my dogs. For those two weeks i had been diligently trying to find their owner. With the aggression, i had to take to animal control. Ignis will need to be an only dog or with a diligent owner and only medium to large dogs. He’s only aggressive over food, but would have been deadly but for my being right there...and he gave less than a second of non-auditory warning. When I take in a dog from another foster...I always ask ‘how long has he been with you?’

    Good morning!

Not quite so humid, Still quite hot. No rain this weekend but rain chances ramp up come Monday. Sometimes I do forget that my plants are in hotter weather and I am in the A/C and get busy and let them go a little long before watering. oops! I am home...yay!

Well, I only have half my pills. I will need to go back in 45 days for the other half. I do not know if the Dr wrote differently, the base is more swamped, policy change, or I have been getting the whole amount for 20 years by mistake...lol...Love the unknown!!

Those Jimmy Buff hot dogs sound really good. I may have to experiment! Yum! I never heard hot dogs called tube steaks, but I love it!!

Having a LOT of trouble with fluid retention. Too much sodium I think. Amazing how it adds up.

I am ready for an old fashion retreat. The kind you unplug, take the dog, go to the woods in an A/C cabin or non humid local and see nobody but tree, stone, and water "people" for a week! I am going to lessen my trips and do some of that at home :D

I love older dogs. I wish May did. I do not believe some people sometimes, either...

I need to eat more veggies!! Among other things, lol....

Take care all!! Getting a little cloudy...nice!! ...Jan

More humor will be posted any moment

    Hi
I'm back home from walking no cents. The Temperature out the door was 58 degrees, And there is a light rain falling.

I had planned to Mow the lawn today, Unfortunately the next few days according to the weather forecasts are predicting to be rainy. A darn shame since today's high temperature is forecast to be in the 60s.

    Hi Val
That is something I would never have thought of that the personalities could change like that after they dogs were in better shape. Ignis sounds like a only dog to me. Am I remembering wrong that Jan had a dog go aggressive over food also ? Jan ?
I'm sure You hated taking them to Animal Control.
Asking how long have You had the dog sounds like a reasonable and prudent question to ask.
Today was a bad work day. 😰
I'm sorry to hear that You had a bad day at work. I hope it gets better quickly.

    Good Luck

    Hi Jan
I know what You mean, the Dahlias were wilted the other day and I had not noticed, Once my Brother pointed them out I watered by leaving the house trickling at the base of each one for a while and then moving the hose.

I used to be able to get 100 pills and then the policy changed to 90. It sounds like Your 45 is a offshoot of the 90 pill program.
If I had to guess I would guess that the policy has changed at the Base.

Interesting, I have heard all Beef Hot Dogs called Tube Steaks all my life as far back as I can remember.

In my case it seems that carbs are what trigger fluid retention much more than Sodium AK Salt.
Since that seems to be I have started using some salt which does seem to improve the taste of some things. yesterday was not a good diet day for me. I had a order of Chicken Wings and Beef Chow Mein from the Chinese take out. So Crispy and tasty with a little salt. I gave into temptation as I was walking past it from a dollar store to the Grocery Store. I am somewhat unhappy that the Dollar store has changed the boxed shelf stable Milk. All they seem to carrying is 1% Lactose Free milk quarts. The old brand came in Whole Milk, 2% and 1% milk with a nice long life. The old one I am using has a use by date of June 2019, the New one has a use by date of November 2018.

I bet if You researched it You could find some Back to nature retreats. No Internet and Cell phone would drive some people crazy. Especially the ones that I see walking down the street staring at the phone in their hands.

As I see it people are getting colder and have less compassion except for illegal Immigrants. If You watch any news the word Illegal is never mentioned.

Yesterday the Only Vegetables I had were what were in the Beef Chow Mein, I finished off the day with a meaty Honey Roasted Turkey Lunch Meat sandwich since it was getting old and I was afraid it would go bad by Sunday.

Yesterday the entire day was cloudy and sort of dreary looking with no rain except in the early morning while I wa walking.

    Have a Good Day

    Morning all!!

Val, sorry the day was bad at work, at least it is done with! The fact you got some sweet puppy breath is a good change from work!! Did not realize you had so much rain! You look like you are doing the best of us with watching what you eat!!

Interesting stories, especially about the two Ohio cities. We have a lot of those kind of problems here too. I must say, Montgomery is doing a very good job with it's reformulating and rebuilding. I am impressed by all but the school system, especially upper administrations. Now if they can just get that on the right road...

Oh Chinese, you can not resist! I have eaten out too much this month, and the month is still young, lol!!! Went to Cracker Barrel and had all the wrong stuff. But I have not been in ages!!
Country fried steak, masked potatoes, gravy, fried okra and hash brown casserole, cornbread...Not a thing I should have, unless you count my 2 glasses of water and 2 cups of decaf, though I should have skipped the cream, lol...At least no dessert!! :*

I may be home more Monday... much easier!

Rain is headed our way. Just northwest of us. We are supposed to have rain the next couple days. Looks like you may be getting some of Florence when it finally gets here, Roger, no matter where it makes landfall!

Headed for humor! I am behind! But thankful you post it!!

Had my first wanting turkey and stuffing crave today, lol...

I have already posted more humor, Enjoy

    Hi
I'm back home from not walking so no cents. The Temperature outside the door was 58 degrees. It rained all day Sunday once it started, a light rain but it never really went away...
Then I could hear it hitting the window AC and as I look out the window there is still a light rain falling.
I am getting ready to have my first sip of coffee.

Why no walking ? Sore Knee, I did not see a Rock in the rain and the less than perfect vision from the hoodie and when I stepped on that rock, that was all she wrote, Scraped one knee, banged up the other one worse. I shall live to walk another day, I decided that with the soreness I would take a couple of days off from walking. Next Time I go that way I plan to throw that darned rock where I can not do that again as I do go that way approximately every three days.

I should have mowed Saturday, Rain Sunday and Today and everything is soggy, OTOH I do not need to water

    Hi Jan
I think Val is doing better too with the foods.

I looked Via Google and there is something called Masked Potatoes so did You mean that or more likely Mashed Potatoes ?
The Cracker Barrel meals sounds delicious, just heavy on carbs for me.

After the Morning I had yesterday I overate, When my Brother did the ShopRite grocery Store run I ended up having him bring me some of the Panda Express Version of Chinese, From the Hot foods Clearance a two pack of Egg Rolls, WonTon Soup, and Chicken Broccoli. The Egg Rolls I put some butter on each bite, The Chicken Broccoli got some butter too, Not my normal thing with that and the Wonton soup had two Wontons and Noodles to which I once again added butter :(
I followed up that disaster by finishing off a 1/2 bag of Pretzels and later on the Penne and Meatball Marinara that I bought a while ago at 50% off and froze. The three meatballs are in the refrigerator to use as a protein today as I struggle with going 100 NS plan for the week.

Yoo Hoo ! NS has added two new Frozen Dinners, The Caribbean Inspired Chicken likely too hot to be my favorite and Chicken Provencal which they had for a while ago and I did like. They have removed the Chipotle Black Bean Bowl which I did like and it like the Chicken Provencal are both lower calorie and low carb meals, They also removed the too hot for me Spicy Garlic Chicken.
I also added the new to me Breakfast items Cherry Cheese Roll (3) and the Five Seed Roll (2).
I may be home more Monday... much easier!

Rain is headed our way. Just northwest of us. We are supposed to have rain the next couple days. Looks like you may be getting some of Florence when it finally gets here, Roger, no matter where it makes landfall!

Depending on the track for Florence It could be here on Friday for the 5th day in a row showing some rain :(

I can kill my craving for Turkey and Stuffing by eating thee NS Shelf Stable version, I ended up with two free and other foods for resuming my order early a while back. The NS version is small cubes or seasoned bread in gravy and what looks like Turkey Roll. The Stuffing is OK, The Turkey Meh.

On the Other hand I Love the NS Frozen Turkey Medallions with Mashed Potatoes
    Have a Good Day
