    Hi
I'm back from walking and No cents. The Temperature out the door was 75degrees. Once again it was not comfortable outdoors while walking. The humidity made it uncomfortable :(

    Editorial: New law no bargain
Rocky seas are ahead for businesses in Massachusetts.
Yesterday, Gov. Charlie Baker signed the “grand bargain” bill into law. It increases the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2023, requires paid leave for workers starting in 2021 and establishes an annual sales tax holiday each August.
Last year, the state Legislature voted themselves a handsome pay raise. This week the mayor of Boston as well as the City Council did the same. Taxpayers are made to hand over their hard-earned dollars to improve the standard of living for their elected representatives again and again.
When do they get some relief? One weekend in the summer?

In the raid, 38 bombers were lost and 481 were damaged, according to an April 2007 Air Force Magazine article. The USAAF estimated that as many as 500 Luftwaffe fighters attacked and almost 400 men did not return. Many were missing in action after bailing out of their aircraft.

The Nov. 2nd mission was the deadliest, the article explained, but not the last of the missions to Leuna. Crews risked a half-dozen more missions over an array of at least 1,700 flak guns.

    Good morning!

Yesterday church came a little early for this tired traveler! I did make it and also went to small group later in the day. But boy am I tired. Today I pick up my plants and see about the car. I am looking forward to resting the 4th of July. I need it after the vacation, lol!

Big surprise this morning. I got a phone call from Birmingham saying I was summoned and will be served papers. Two officers will be visiting me. I tried to back trace the call. No luck. The lady who answered the phone when I called back sounded official, and wanted my phone no. When I questioned "my phone ?" I was disconnected. I finally called the police dept who said it was a scam and ignore it. What a morning..Hope she is right! :s

I am finding life a little scary at times! Good articles! I am still catching up! I did catch up on humor! Thank you!! :)

Sorry about the humidity. It is like being hit with a wet noodle! We are expecting 50% showers all week including the 4th. It is very cloudy today!

Hang in there all! Hoping you do not get hacked or scammed!! ...Jan

    Hi Jan
I always came home from a vacation more tired than when I left too.

The call is total scam. Big clue is that they never call to warn You the someone is coming to serve You paper. The Phone number on caller ID was 100% a spoofed phone number. The Police department is correct total scam, The next thing would have been telling You that You need to pay and if You agreed they would want payment via a prepaid debit card, Another red flag.

I was dragged down by the heat and humidity this morning and it was the worst morning that way since the heat wave started.

    Have a Good Day

    Hi Again
    FWIW
    https://consumerrecoverynetwork.com/question/debt-collection-scams-fakes/
What to do when fake debt collection scammers call.

I got a phone call message which said someone would be by my home and place of employment to give me a summons. That kinda startled me. Then later I called the number back and spoke with someone. They said I had this old debt, I told them that I never had such a card. They then told me that I should be getting served a summons and would need to fill out my court documents. But, if that happen yet I could settle over the phone for .50 on the dollar.

They didn't know who was supposed to serve me (sheriff) and didn't even know where I lived. They just rattled off addresses.

They kept threatening that the court date would be set as soon as the guy showed up at my house.

    https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?t=1161324
I deal with things like this as follows:

    - Look at the caller ID
    - Do I recognize it? If yes, answer the phone. If no, don't; if it's not a scam then they'll leave a message.

The second you answer these *kitten* calls you elevate your number to their, "People who will answer the phone", list and they'll just keep hassling you even more. Just ignore them and you'll never have to worry about it, the same way you never have to worry about spam because you don't reply to it, because it's spam and you know that replying to it only makes everything worse.

    Right?

    - If you never answer a call from a number you don't recognize, if its a scam call they will eventually give up
    - If you answer a call from a number you don't recognize and it's a scammer, they will hound you and hound you far, far more and no conversation you can have with them on the phone will stop them from calling

You are the fish and they're the fishermen. If you don't want to get reeled in, don't ever try to nibble on the bait. It's that simple.

Just stop talking to these guys. Now. Done.

    Good morning!

Very interesting reads you posted! I am very interested in the New York article. I have read maybe 3/4's of it so far.I remember that happening to Cleveland where my grandparents lived. So sad!! Of course the rents were no where like NYC's. But the charm of the old neighborhoods disappeared. They are replaced by soulless things, or left vacant and crumbling. I did not think that would happen in NY though. Real Estate greed. In many ways my parents were "richer" in mid life than I am, or my children. Pay does not correspond with the prices of things nowadays, so owners and real estate people can be rich and richer. So true also about the contributions of the rich longer ago than now. Not so much of that gratitude and philanthropy as their used to be,with a few exceptions. :|

You can not win when it is humid. Though it is cooler in the mornings, the dew points are also higher, so the humidity feels even worse. I do not go out much except in the earlier am, as it is miserable in the afternoon, and in the evening the mosquitoes will carry you away, lol...

I go today to get an estimate on my car boo-boo. I also got up rather early to go to our little group that meets from church. I was hard to getup at 6 am! I had no trouble going to sleep earlier for me at 11 pm the night before! :)

I did enjoy shopping at 8:30 in the morning for my 4th stuff and general stuff- with NO crowds! Yay!! I am having a simple plate of ribs and potato salad. And staying home and not even answering the phone!

I normally do not answer phone calls I do not know. This was Birmingham area, and I was not sure where the central State Farm was, so I thought it might possibly have to do with my
fender bender. I will not make that mistake for a while! I have a caller now from New Jersey every single day, that I have never answered. I have received a phone call or two a day for the last 3 or more weeks. I am determined not to answer- but it does drive me crazy...

I hope you all have a great 4th of July! I hope you all enjoy some rest while thankful about all the things so great yet in this country of ours! ...Jan

I wimped out and made a Grocery Store Run Tuesday. I picked up a Chef Salad that will be the last meal of the dat today. I also have two Fried Chicken Breasts, same source in the refrigerator for my Holiday meal. Yesterday I tried two of the Macaroni & Cheese Breaded deep fried wedges, what they called Cheese-steak sliders. The so called sliders looked like a Corn Dog minus the stick. They were both OK.

Dang, I should have gotten some of the St. Louis BBQ Ribs for the 4th of July instead of two Fried Chicken breasts and only picked up one piece of chicken.

I get scam calls on the Phone numbers that have two different area codes. The scammers use the Area code and exchange that match the phones to entice an answer. I suspect they are hoping I will think it is a neighbor.

I suspect You would not do what I do when the first scam call comes in. I turn off the phone
I also reach into my pocket and hit the volume button which silences the ringing and then I look to see if I want to answer it.

    Good morning!

Very quiet 4th of July until 8 pm. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop! And virtually no traffic. At 8 though the people behind me were shooting up lots of fire works. Rather low but very colorful. I can see most of them from my couch. Lots of ground boomers. May May goes out to bark at times, but just as often comes in and just ignores them too. Strange dog, lol...
I know many dogs suffer from the fireworks, so that part is heartbreaking.

The mac and cheese wedges you had earlier sounded good and interesting! Why are they cheese steak sliders though...I am confused...Actually the chicken sounded quite good too. I had too much potato salad, though I made a smaller amount than normal. I have discovered as much as I love that BBQ sauce in a hash or brisket, I am not as fond of it on ribs. I guess for me anyway I like it best simmered with the boneless meat in it. Interesting...

So glad you are feeling better Val. And best over it before your travels. I hope you enjoy the vacation, too! You have certainly earned it and then some! :)

I have been watching episodes of Who Do You Think You Are? free on you tube. They are so incredibly interesting with their genealogical research and histories. I had watched some of the shows occasionally when I was working. Most of the ones from the show from Australia are rather harsh and heartbreaking though. Glad I am not of Aussie descent.

So glad I was not on that flight above and left there. That was inexcusable. It is against the law to do that here after a similar thing had happened. Common sense....short supply. Iguana will not be on my menu for a while...I do not care if it tastes like chicken, lol. Crazy, as I like alligator and crawfish- kind of the same difference... :D

Take care all! Hope the 4th was good to you all! (sorry about your pooches-Val. I seem to remember they are not fond of fireworks... ...Jan

After I went off to bed last night I could hear someone setting off Firecrackers :(

You might find the link I posted today regarding dogs and fireworks interesting ?

The Mac & Cheese wedges were tasty if fattening. I have no idea why they called them sliders, I can only guess that was the closest name they could think of without running out of room on the tag they use. I can also get Cheesesteak Egg Rolls from A Chinese Takeout.

Do You also put Hard Boiled Eggs into Your Potato Salad ?

Iguana will not be on my menu for a while...I do not care if it tastes like chicken, lol. Crazy, as I like alligator and crawfish- kind of the same difference... :D

Take care all! Hope the 4th was good to you all! (sorry about your pooches-Val. I seem to remember they are not fond of fireworks... ...Jan
You and me both, That might have been the last time I flew anywhere or at least not on that airline.

They do need to do something with the Iguanas OTOH.

    Good morning!

We had about that hour of fireworks at 8 pm and that was it. Nothing after! I ate too much the last few days, so I am miserable. Ready to do better today. You ate much more sensibly, and you are rewarded by being able to move! I am not so energetic, lol... :D I do put eggs in my potato salad. I have learned to like it several ways as southern salad uses pickles and mayo. I like mine best, and I do not like everyone's, lol. I have made it with sweet potatoes too, and it is tasty!

I need to transplant a plant today, and clean house. I am still so thankful to be at home with not much happening. Even May May is snoozy. I played some ball with her the last 2 days. It does not seem to bother the leg, so I guess we are good.

Some interesting links above. The fact that the Korean was working a 100 hr/ wk was heartbreaking. Even worse that the remedy would be to go into a prison like cell to vacation. I get the concept, but the solution was almost as bad as the problem. Oh my...

Loved the lady who had the dog hospice. She is courageous, as that is a lot of funerals, though. Actually, the dog treats with the weed sounded pretty good, though I was chuckling at first. Wonder how many owners were eating them too.

Don't overdo! Did you all have a parade for the 4th? Seems like you usually go!
Have a great day, all! ...Jan

Hi. Our 4th of July started with a thunderstorm and my doggos were beside themselves! So I tried something new (to me), and gave them melatonin. It was a miracle! Oscar (who panicks most) was sleeping during fireworks. Duke and Lucy were awake but not crying...they just laid at my side. Spike is never bothered, so no melatonin for him. They weren’t groggy, just relaxed. They still followed me to the restroom and kitchen (which they always do...not related to fireworks). I have one friend that highly recommends the cbd biscuits for her doggo. With my job, that vacation in jail sounds very appealing! That’s why i love the dentist...it’s an escape from work. New sofa arrived. It’s beautiful and comfortable...so I immediately threw on blankets to cover it. Ha! Tomorrow the girls arrive and Saturday at 4 am, we hit the road.

And yet more humor has just been posted

    Hi
I'm back from walking and One Thin Dime found one block from the house. The Temperature out the door was 81 degrees and I was sweating heavily. The humidity made it very uncomfortable :(

As I was headed out the door I could see lightning in the distance and hear the grumbling of the thunder. Then as I was 2 blocks from home some light rain started falling.

I have been holding off on the Lawn mowing until the heat wave breaks. There is a cold front moving in and Today is out, rain in the forecast and at Noon Lunch with friends at the Chinese Buffet, I just need to be selective with what I eat. Wish me Luck

Did You hear about the snail who got rid of his shell?
He thought it would make him faster,
But it just made him sluggish.

    Hi Jan
We also do put Celery and Diced Onions as well as shredded Carrots depending on what is available. usually no Diced Gherkins or Sweet Relish, definitely no Mustard.
I also like the Potatoes cubed not to large. I am sure we all make the Potato Salad to our personal taste

I did not think of it as being that sensible, OTOH I think it worked according to the Belt on my walking shorts.

100 hours a week is 17+ hours of work a day with a seven day work week, Yuck :(

I could not handle all those funerals.

No Parade on the Fourth. Memorial Day but not the Fourth, I'm not sure why.

If it works that well for Thunder and Fireworks I could see them being very popular.

    I also noticed these:

    Hi Val
Interesting that Melatonin worked, I do take one a 1/2 hour before bedtime. And totally legal and easily available too.

    Enjoy the Vacation

    Good morning!!

Val, I hope you have a wonderful vacation too! The girls are so lucky to have you!! Enjoy yourselves and safe travels!! :)

Interesting articles, and I am enjoying the little jokes with the spoilers! I love those kind of funnies!

Hopefully you will start to get some relief on the humidity and temps soon! Do a lot of people have air where you are? In Ohio it was unheard of for homes. Wonder if that has changed in 50 years, lol...

I did not realize dogs could take melatonin. Cool! I take some too at bedtime. Works pretty well.

Had to chuckle about your couch arriving, Val, and the covers going on. Very familiar...

Glad you found the dime! I bet you do well for Chinese! You have a lot of discipline!!

    Have a great week-end! ...Jan

Vacation-Val is officially here! Woo hoo! Computer is off (and in the car). The girls will arrive in 2 hours. We depart in the morning.
