Howdy all y'all. It's fantastic Friday! We have 3 (38 F) sunny degrees out there with an expected high of 10 (49 F) under sunny skies and 2% chance of precipitation.

J and the guests may make a side trip to Greeneville, because the guests want to go Black Friday shopping, and J thinks it would be better to get out of the metro Atlanta area. I don't know that Greeneville would really be any better, and am hoping they will just stay home and eat leftovers.

I intend to go to Kroger and PetSmart and even that is more shopping than I really want to do, but there are some things I need.

Breakfast was the rest of the ham, fried, with some eggs and grits.

Hi, slept a little later this a.m.
Ed, yours also sounds like quite a feast! Hope you get to relax today.
Yesterday was so much fun, but exhausting. I was up early to get the turkey and stuffing ready, and get the table set, etc. Family arrived around 11:30. It was a wonderful day. I made a new drink I found online, an apple cider mimosa (apple cider and champagne). It's very festive.
I just did a little online shopping. Basically just relaxing today.
Currenly 39F, partly cloudy and windy. High 41F. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph. Higher wind gusts possible.
    Happy Friday, everyone.

The three of them have headed off to Greenville. I opted to stay home. I did get out to PetSmart and Kroger this morning. With the family gone, I can get a good recharge, hopefully.

And I have put up this year's Christmas tree. Well, OK, it's really a Christmas shrub...but if it lives, I will be able to utilize it year round as rosemary is my favorite herb.

Lunch was a small plate of leftovers.

Howdy all y'all. It's satisfying Saturday! Right now we have -1 (31 F) sunny degrees with an expected high of 16 (60 F) and mostly sunny skies. There is 1% chance of precipitation.

Plenty of leftovers to eat, so I don't think I will need to cook anything today.

There is nothing critical on the home agenda. I do have a couple of boxes of assorted stuff, some from my desk, and some from cleaning off the kitchen table, which becomes a catch-all. I need to sort out the contents of those boxes. Some stuff will be tossed, some set aside to find an appropriate place in the house (though that may mean back in the box), and some to become donations. This does not have to be done today, and we do, after all, have company.

I may get out to Kroger though, as the guests are now aware that our Kroger has an item that is currently hard to get where they live. So we may all get out to Kroger!

    Good morning.
It's currently 31F, a mix of clouds and sun expected today. High 42F. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph.
    It was very windy yesterday.
Ed, sounds like you're enjoying your leftovers and company. :)
We too, are enjoying our leftovers. I went through two of my cupboards yesterday and took out some old tablecloths and glasses. I've scheduled a greendrop pickup for Monday, so I will add those to my other giveaways.
I think I will take a hot soak this a.m. to see if I can ease some of the achiness, then maybe start getting things out for the holidays. Will see how the day goes.
    Happy Saturday, everyone! :)

Howdy all y'all. It's sumptuous Sunday! We currently have 2 (35 F) fair degrees out there with an expected high of 15 (59 F) under overcast skies and a 1% chance of precipitation.

V and his wife should be heading home today, probably after lunch but maybe sooner. I don't really expect anyone in the house to be awake much before noon though, other than me and the cats.

The dishwasher is running now. I had leftover Thanksgiving for breakfast. Nothing else critical on the home agenda. Last night we drove around a bit after supper, just looking at holiday light displays.

It's currently 31F, mainly sunny to start, then a few afternoon clouds. High 52F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. I may go out looking for a few last minute things today.
There is a candle lighting on Main St at 4:00, and we're planning to go to that.

Well, I am surprised. It's not quite 9:00 and they have just left. J is still asleep. They didn't want me to wake J, and just wanted to get on the road since they were up early anyway. That's the way I like to travel myself so fully understand. I presume J will understand as well. No long goodbyes, just get on the road!

    Happy Hanukkah!
I put up my Christmas decorations over the weekend, now I can relax and just enjoy them.
We to have been enjoying leftovers. We made up some dinners and put them in the freezer for later use. I always seem to cook way too much.
We had a few flurries yesterday. My son in England also sent me a picture of the snow they were having. The usually only get a dusting, nothing that they have to shovel.
Today is straightening the house and running a few errands. Tomorrow is back to work.
    Have a great week! :)

Howdy all y'all. It's marvelous Monday! We currently have 2 (36 F) clear degrees out there with an expected high of 13 (55 F) under sunny skies.

Back to work today. And on the home front I guess at some point I will wash towels and sheets, and maybe other things.

Happy Holidays to all! My youngest brother and his wife live in Hawaii and are celebrating Chanukah there with local friends. I have done most of my gift buying. When I was younger I loved shopping in the stores and malls but as I matured I began to find that much too exhausting, and found mail order to be easier. At first you had to literally mail in the order, and send a check, then later you could phone in the order and give your credit card information, but now I really love the convenience of online shopping.

Of course companies that I have done business with in the past will still send me physical, glossy paper flyers to tempt me into making those online orders. They are not about to miss a chance for a sale!

Well I better get ready for work.

    Good morning.
Jo, enjoy relaxing with your beautiful decorations, and your day off!
Ed, nice that your brother is celebrating with friends in Hawaii, one of my really good friends retired there about a year ago. It used to be more fun to go shopping, but now I'd rather avoid the crowds too.
The holiday season begins. My daughter and family came by last night to light the first night candles with us. Sweet. :)
It's currently 40F, cloudy skies early, followed by partial clearing. High 43F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph. I need to start shopping today. I am not a great shopper. I did order some things online, but need to go out there for the rest.
Another new week. Wishing everyone a good one. :) 🕎

Howdy all y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! We currently have a sunny, cold, -1 (30 F) with an expected high of 18 (63 F) under sunny skies and 1% chance of precipitation.

We finished off Thanksgiving last night, by eating the last bit of each of the pies, along with the last of the whipped topping. It was a nice holiday meal that lasted all weekend, along with some restaurant visits with our weekend guests. I think I already have Christmas pretty well covered, foodwise, with some of it in the freezer, and the rest can be made from staples that I always have on hand. I may need to buy a can of corn though, or some frozen corn, in case J is not visiting Kentucky for Christmas.

J laughed at my calling Thanksgiving dinner a lazy Thanksgiving, since I was still busy in the kitchen a good chunk of the day preparing food. But all the main dishes were already cooked and required, at most, a little slicing and/or warming.

For me a non-lazy Thanksgiving would include cooking the turkey, basting a small ham, making the rolls and pies from scratch, and the dressing/stuffing from scratch, and all the other sides from scratch. It would be at least 2 days of cooking and might extend to a third!

At my age, and with the availability of pre-roasted turkey, ready to eat ham, etc, I would rather take it easy and only make one or two items from scratch. Will the food be as wonderful as if I had made it myself? Probably not, but I have found some commercial products that are pretty close, and they will do just fine and let me enjoy the holiday without wearing myself out.

I guess I should start extending invitations for Christmas dinner soon...

    Good morning.
Irene, sounds like fun. Trees are so festive!
Ed, fun advent calendar. I still try to make most things from scratch. But I buy the tube of crescent rolls for Thanksgiving. A holdover from when I was working full time.
We're having another family holiday party on Sunday. I am still figuring out some of the menu, but I know I will make most of it ahead. If possible I will only be doing the latkes on Sunday. And cooking things I put together the day before.
We had some snow flurries this a.m. It's currently 36F, cloudy early with peeks of sunshine expected late. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High 47F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
    Happy Tuesday, everyone. :)

Howdy all y'all. Give December a hearty welcome! It's wonderful Wednesday!

It's a little warmer today with 3 (37 F) clear degrees out there now and an expected high of 20 (69 F) under partly cloudy skies. There is a 2% chance of precipitation.

Yesterday was a long work day. I ordered in from that nearby vegan restaurant and we had a delicious dinner.

Hopefully today will be better. I am still working to resolve an access issue for some of my testing. Maybe we'll find the problem today. J has been too busy to walk up the hall to try to help.

Orion is helping me right now, by occupying my lap.

I will be having my first item from each Advent calendar this evening.

Ed, good luck solving your access problem. Pear apple and cheddar sound perfect for an Autumn evening.
I was busy yesterday, picked up stamps at the post office, TJMaxx shopping trip, writing out some cards, wrapping some presents, did some laundry.
A PT appt this morning and more wrapping today, plus I should figure out what I'm making on Sunday so I can get the ingredients.
It's currently 31F, partly cloudy skies this morning will become overcast during the afternoon. High 51F. Winds light and variable.
    Happy Wednesday, everyone. :) 🕎

Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! We currently have 4 (40 F) clear degrees with an expected sunny high of 22 (71 F) and 2% chance of rain.

J found a workaround for my access issue, but I want to find the real issue and will continue working on that in my free moments. But the workaround does allow me to continue my testing. They are doing a major rewrite of part of the application anyway, and that may fix my actual issue regardless.

Today's hard seltzer is Blueberry and the cheese is applewood smoked Cheddar.

A bit warmer today. It's currently 48F, a mix of clouds and sun. High 63F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph.
Ed, blueberry is one of my favorite flavors, and applewood chedder sounds delish. Good that you found a workaround for your access issues. The rewrite should fix problems.
I went to PT yesterday, and will go on Friday the next 2 weeks. I'm doing better. :)
Just ordered myself some things from TJ Maxx.
    Happy Thursday, everyone. 🕎☮🎂

Howdy all y'all. It's fabulous Friday!

We currently have 7 (45 F) clear degrees with an expected high of 24 (75 F) under mostly sunny skies and a 2% chance of precipitation.

I still haven't gotten around to laundering the guest room sheets, or the laundry in the bins. It's been that kind of work week. Maybe I will get some of that done this weekend.

I think I have computed that I will need to take most of a day off to avoid losing accrued personal time. If I have figured it right, I can only carry over 40 hours of leave, but will have 45 accrued by the end of the calendar year. Maybe I can use that to extend one of the remaining holiday weekends.

My tea mug is empty so time for a trip back to the kitchen.

    Good morning.
Thanks, Jo. I had a nice day. Mostly relaxing and wrapping presents, reading, did a face mask (haha, supposed to make your face "radiant"). Hubby ordered some things I wanted, not yet arrived. My daughter and son-in-law gave me flowers and a balloon, and I had a gift from a friend which included some chocolate wine which we toasted with last night. It's delicious, very chocolatey. :)
Ed, I always loved taking long weekends at the end of the year because I had time to use up. Some years I had 3-4 day workweeks for the entire month of December. :) It was nice.
I have to return some books to the library today and pick up a prescription. I have a dental appt in January and need to take antibiotics the day I go, so that was called in. I have some cleaning and menu planning, and maybe shopping to do.
It's currently 39F, a mix of clouds and sun expected today. High around 50F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.
    Happy Friday, everyone. :)

Howdy all y'all. It's satisfying Saturday! We currently have a partly sunny 9 (49 F) degrees with an expected high of 22 (71 F) and 4% chance of precipitation.

Apparently we have a holiday dinner party to attend tonight. I believe ham is the star of the meal, so I may still bring some baked beans, as they go well enough with ham. This party snuck up on me, as I was so distracted by work stuff this week. When J reminded me of it last night all I could think was #%^&!

I also need to get to the store this morning if possible.

Thanks, Irene. I had a really nice day.
Ed, that's nice of you to bring something. Enjoy the party after a long, hard workweek.
It's currently 43F here, another warmish day, sunshine and clouds mixed. High around 55F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.
I have a recipe for baked filafel that I'm going to try today, and I'm planning to make a lemon cake, and if I have the time, some applesauce and maybe some cookies or get the veggies ready for tomorrow's frittata. I also have a bit of wrapping and cleaning left to do. So, busy day.🥣🍪 🎁
Enjoying my morning coffee before I begin.☕

Howdy all y'all. It's sumptuous Sunday!

We currently have 13 (55 F) cloudy degrees with an expected high of 16 (60F) under cloudy skies and a 42% chance of rain. We could use some rain, as it has been dry for too long around here.

Last night's dinner party was lovely. For appetizers, cheese and crackers, a shrimp cocktail tray, and some barbecue flavor chips. We had Honey Baked Ham and Honey Baked Turkey breast. Sides included two different dishes of mac and cheese, two kinds of cole slaw, potato salad with egg, and my baked beans. There were also several desserts, including two kinds of fruitcake, a giant chocolate chip cookie, a dessert cheese ball, served with graham crackers, and a wonderful cherry cheesecake.

One of the hosts, the one who made the cheesecake, said you are supposed to eat two slices of cheesecake. One for each hip! I opted to split a slice between my two hips. LOL.

I made too many baked beans. I am out of the habit of making baked beans for smaller parties, what with the summer pool parties and making beans for 40 or more. So I have a big container of leftover baked beans in the refrigerator.

I have some nice bratwurst that should pair well with baked beans, and can buy some slaw mix or something to make another side.

Holiday goodies are appearing in front of me fast and furious and I know I will have to get back on track after the holidays. For now, I am trying to stay busy enough to not snack all day. I have far too many end of year holiday food traditions! At least I was able to find very small packages of most of my traditional treats.

I will admit I threw in a Hershey's skillet brownie mix this year, just because I want the cute, tiny skillet. It will be perfect for mini-omelets or a scrambled egg for a sandwich. I also added a box of I also added some Ritz fudge covered crackers, because I have never seen those before and decided to give them a try.

At least my Claxton fruitcake went to the dinner party with me last night and I had a portion and conveniently forgot to bring the leftover home with me. The hosts can enjoy the rest of it, and I can check off that item from my holiday foods eaten bucket list.

Day 5 of the Advent calendars presents Mandarin Lime hard seltzer and Mexicana Cheddar with spices and peppers. These calendars aren't planned to actually pair well together, and don't have to be consumed at the same time, but so far some of the pairings have been surprisingly apt. The citrus flavors in the seltzer today should actually pair pretty well with the Mexican Cheddar. I have been very pleased with both calendars and will look for this British cheese calendar again next year, as it's the best Advent cheese calendar I have tried, at least so far. The portions are bigger than those in last year's Aldi cheese calendar, and the cheeses for the first four days have been outstanding. I have no doubt the remaining cheeses will be marvelous as well.
