I told myself I would regret and I did. I normally lay out my clothes and pack lunch the night before. Last night I was to tired to bother. I didn't manage to get myself up until 6:30 and I need to leave at 7. Grr. No breakfast and no lunch. I went to Tim Hortons for lunch as it's right where I get off the bus for work. On my lunch break I had to go to the mall, as there is a police office there and I had to get my criminal record check updated for working with the kids in my church. I took advantage of being there and went to the food court. I got myself a yummy sub from Subway. Burned all those calories off on my workout tonight. Now I need to get to bed so I don't oversleep again tomorrow and get my training run in!0

three and a half days.... boys down to today, tomorrow and half day Thursday for school!
just breatheeeeeeeee0 -
Just saying "hi!" At work and on the run. Checking off my To Do list. Retirement party tonight. Rory leaves in three days!
You all sound great!

Hi
I received my Fitbit bands today, large size so I can attach to my ankle when I go on my bike!
All different colors and designs, now I can change them according to my clothes too.
Finishing up laundry (never ending), change sheets on bed and ran a few errands. Broke my mirror
today so a trip to the Dollar store. Just finished chili in the crockpot, with ground turkey, and had a walk today.
Have a good evening.

commented to the husband last night that I felt like I was the only one working on making this vacation happen - he retorted that, 'it's only Tuesday there's nothing to be doing yet' - I walked away. ilovemyfamilyilovemyfamilyilovemyfamily0
-
Marla- I know how you feel. I do all the reservations, research, etc. and Russ only does what I tell him to do. It's exhausting! It is this way in many marriages. I have a coworker friend whose husband loves to plan trips and go on a couple per year. He does all the research and planning. She knows she's lucky! When do you leave?
Shirley- I'm probably the only person at work that doesn't have a FitBit type apparatus. I'm glad it motivates you.
Tomorrow is staff development day which means no students. We sit in trainings all day. Yuk! In the morning we have to present to the rest of the staff the results of our professional learning group studies this year. Mine studied behavior management. It's another way we waste our valuable time. Required by the gov't so we aren't lazy, dud educators. You know what they say about teachers, "those who can't, teach". What a crock!
Getting warm here. My body thermostat is off. So many hot flashes and discomfort. Tired of hot flashes.
One more night with Rory. He is out saying good-bye to friends. We are going to an Italian restaurant tomorrow eve. He needs to pack and be ready to get up early Friday morning. Russ and I took the day off so we will keep busy while we worry about his airplane travel and connections.
Have a nice night!
Jenny0 -
oh Jenny - I'm so sorry - many of family were teachers and that is even what I studied to be - I truly believe most teachers are the soldiers of the U.S. - in the trenches fighting not just to teach those crazy kids, but fighting parents, administration and gov't - it's really the other way around - that can teach! I couldn't do it.
Enjoy your final day with Rory!
Two more sleeps (maybe one and a quarter since we leave so early Saturday morning...)!!!
can't find the t-shirts I swore we all had - suddenly no one has enough socks or underwear or shorts. Gah0 -
Jenny - I don't have a Fitbit. All the other girls do and are part of a challenge (as is one of the lawyers). I could have gotten a Garmin that counted steps, but I"m more interested in my pace, time and distance then anything else.
Race day is tomorrow! It's giving a high of 23! WOW! I'm planning on wearing my one running tank I worn. I'll just be rolling up the sleeves of the shirt I get to make it sleeveless, so may as well just go sleeveless. I'm hoping I can do the run relatively pain free. I need new sneakers. I'm starting to tell by the way my feet hit the pavement when running and by the aches (especially in my back) when done. I just can't afford them to next month (and am half waiting for the sale next month!) I love my Brooks sneakers and they are at the Expo with the race this weekend. I plan on getting fitted by them for the best pair.0 -
Good luck with your race Ang
prayers for Rory for safe travels and an wonderful experience
stressful couple of day - last day of school yesterday - Zach's English grade took a hit because suddenly she zero'd an assignment late last night - he had it in his google classrooms (laptops turned in yesterday) - but he was able to access it from his phone and email this morning and she accepted it for partial - nightmare - there is no way to tell from all this online stuff if the teacher has received an assignment - they just have to wait - and if they don't grade until late - yuck - stressful -
We lost our Kennedy tour twice in the last couple of days - I guess because I was trying to book the 'tour with an astronaut' and no astronauts were available - they kept cancelling the tours - so I booked just a Kennedy tour - so far it hasn't cancelled - the boys are really excited about this one - I hope it works out
the Egyptian airline thing is frightening - and I suppose will make travel more stressful - super
will be thinking of you all - and hope to have lots of FUN stories to share - praying we've had our whammies
come on - NO MORE WHAMMIES!!0 -
Have a wonderful time with your family Marla! I hope you experience joy, relaxations and lots of fun together. I loved the Kennedy Space Tour. We did the shortened version with the boys years ago. Russ and I still want to go back alone for the long tour. Can't wait to hear about all your fun!
Ang- good luck in your race! WTG on your training and I'm glad you will have nice weather.
We dropped Rory at the airport at 3am this morning. I had wet eyes but no crying. He was so ready to go and so excited. He should be sitting in the Miami airport right now waiting for his connecting flight to Quito, Ecuador. He'll arrive at 9:30 tonight if all goes well. I hope he contacts us tomorrow and lets us know he had smooth travels.
Russ and I came home and went back to sleep. We went to Perkins for breakfast and then to check out discounted granite/quartz remnants for our bathroom updates. I also looked at flooring and laminate counter samples today. We are going out for an early Asian dinner and then home to sleep a complete night.
I plan to check out another stone counter top outlet tomorrow that has more selection of in stock remnants. We brought home one sample today but I need to price compare and see other colors.
Have a wonderful evening!

Lots of things going on. We have been busy this is our long weekend, Victoria holiday, but of course
when you are retired everyday is a holiday!
Friday we had a funeral to go to over the bridge about an hour from us. After that we went home and changed and went to the nursery to get our plants and garden vegetables. All is planted and ready for the summer. Saturday the weather was cloudy most of the day, rain was predicted but no rain. We washed windows and I scrubbed all the screens. Another job is done. I had my MIL over for dinner lat night last night and we had steak, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob and salad.
Today Dave is going to pressure wash the patio a good day for it. So our weekend has been getting things done. Boat is still not in the water, a belt broke on the hoist that lifts the boats in the water so the
part is held up in Customs.
I am making a new recipe of vegetables with curry in the crockpot and my detox chicken soup today.
We are also going to an open house to look at the house since they are asking over $369,000 for it.
We are wondering now what our house is worth. The market is hot in our area right now. We are not
planning on moving but it couldn't hurt.
Unforturnatel my fitbits do not fit my ankle, I thought I would give it try. I will have to work out something else. I do have an assortment of colors to change with my clothes. I also go in the
challenges when I can.
Marla - Have fun on your trip. I am like your friend, Dave does all the arrangements for our trips.
Jenny - Sending Rory away is like sending your child off to university again. I hope his trip is uneventful and he gets there safe.
Ang - Have fun on your race and may you win big!!!
Shirley

My race didn't get very well. It was nice. Very nice. As in it hit 30 when we were running. It was way to hot to run in. Not sure I have run in that type of heat before. My shoes are also worn out and it was killing my back. Instead of doing a new personal best, I had my worse run ever, but I did it and crossed the finished line on my feet. I also bought myself new shoes. I haven't done anything yesterday or today. My back is feeling better today but I wanted to wait one more day.
Shirley - Enjoy the long weekend. I know I am!
Jenny - Hope you find a good deal!
Marla - Enjoy your trip!0 -
Hi Ladies!
Marla is off having a fun family vacay! I hope it brings good memories.
Shirley- You and Dave are very productive. Motivating Russ is exhausting. It takes forever for anything to get done in our yard or on the house. I hate nagging but that's what it takes.
Ang- sorry your run wasn't what you hoped for. Glad you finished and bought new shoes. They will feel so much better and be good for your knees.
Rory made it to Ecuador but managed to get pick pocketed the first day when riding a bus. He didn't listen to my instructions about his ATM card, money, etc. and so it happened. He has learned a hard lesson. We had to put a stop on his ATM and credit card. Russ will have to wire him some money from Rory's account until we figure out getting him new cards. They also got his US drivers license. He made it to the rainforest reserve today and begins introductions and training tomorrow. He will contact us again in two weeks when he goes to the capital city of Quito where he can get internet. Lets hope nothing else happens and he uses common sense when walking around and backpacking. I'm ticked that he broke the cardinal rule about where to keep his ID, money, etc. Atleast he didn't lose his passport.
My allergies are acting up horribly. I'm so groggy and my eyes are dry. Heavy rain right now so maybe that will help clear the air.
Well going to bed soon. Have a nice evening.
Jenny0 -
I hope Marla is having a blast since she really needs the down time.
Ang - Sorry about the run, but 30C is really hot and I am impressed you finished. Now you have new
runners and looking forward to the next run in new runners.
Jenny - Sorry about you not feeling well, I can see the pollen on our patio table everyday. I wipe it down and the pollen is back. It is getting less everyday.
Not much going on today, I went to Yoga this morning and visited my MIL. From there I did get some groceries and headed home. I bought a new book called "Super Mind" by Dr Rosenthal. It is about
TM (transcendental meditation) and going into some examples and explaining things I was wondering about since I do this meditation twice a day. It's a good read.
Now I am waiting for Dave to come home from the boat. The boat is launched, Ya Hoo!
Shirley0 -
This week I had my theater night with friends and book club. Work is busy too. I'm so glad it's Friday. Russ and I went out for a steak dinner at Outback and I had a very strong margerita. I feel relaxed but very tired. My congestion and coughing is still present so I'm tired out.
I have next week off so I will get some relaxation and hopefully accomplish some things too.
Shirley- When is your first sail?
Warm and humid here. Lots of rain this week. Less than a month until the AK trip. Looking forward to it.
Have a nice evening!
Jenny0 -
We had our first sailing club party last night and it was really warm. We do have the A/C on the boat now so we stayed overnight. We are heading to a funeral this morning, our neighbor kitty corner to us,
their son passed away so we will pay our respects. We really didn't know him but its always sad when
someone loses a daughter or son.
Then to more happier times after that we are leaving to see Isaac. I will be back on Wednesday sometime and hope we can get internet at the cottage so I can stay in touch. Until then have a great
Memorial day weekend.
Shirley0 -
Nice weekend here and it's even more lovely knowing I have this next week off. It helps me relax to know I have extended time to do things I need to do.
Today we took a drive into Wisconsin with the dogs and went to the drive-in for burgers. Of course they got to split a plain one for a treat. We are relaxing with Gin and Tonics now at home.
I talked to my siblings today to discuss some final details of the AK trip. This week I will book a float trip on the river while the youngsters white water raft. We leave in 3 weeks.
Tomorrow we go to a picnic at friends' house. We are taking a taco pasta salad and will grill brats for our meat.
I am going to look at more quartz counter tops this week for the bathrooms, get a quote from the miracle surface refinishing guy for the shower and tub, go the the eye doctor, get the oil changed in my car, and hopefully relax at some point.
Shirley, glad you got your firs sail club party in. Did you sail too?
Marla-hope you are having a great vacation.
Ang- You must be pretty busy.
More later,
Jenny0 -
Memorial Day picnic was beautiful weather but hot since their backyard is in the afternoon sun. We moved our chairs to the shade and with the breeze it was wonderful.
Marla-nice to hear your trip is going great! I'm glad it is fun for all of you. Can't wait to hear about it and what the boys liked the best. Cool picture swimming with the dolphins.
Today I have my annual eye appointment and the estimate to resurface showers and tub this afternoon. My office mates and I are going to happy hour at 4pm and then we have another estimate this evening to enlarge our upstairs shower. There is a hollow wall behind the shower that could be utilized to make a larger, tiled shower. We've talked about it for years and want to see what our guy would charge to do it. If we do this I won't have that shower sprayed because we would be re-tiling anyway.
I still have to plant my second flower pot (yes, only two this year). Hopefully today!
Well enjoying a cup of coffee and then getting dressed to go to eye appointment.
Have a nice day!
Jenny0 -
I'm back! I have been back for a couple of days - just super busy trying to get laundry done and then unbury at work. Still not completely caught up - but wanted to say hi. HI!
Jenny - so sorry Rory got robbed on his trip - I pray all else will go well. It takes so much courage to go out there like that - and for you too to just set him off - prayers all will be well.
Keep racing Ang you are doing great.
Hi Shirley - I bet you have been in the water by now.
I will try to catch up reading and do a long post later - just wanted to drop in - I lost my days because I missed signing one day - meh - but so many cool things we did and saw. Kennedy was a big favorite by all of us. Discovery Cover was the top I think of all - and surprisingly even Zach who fears water - "Swim, swam, swum" with the dolphins and paddled through the huge lazy river - Sea World was great we watched three shows - and saw several exhibits and Universal and Islands of Adventure was great fun. I rode a lot of rides and even Zach braved quite a few.
Back to reality this week - Caleb played his first ball game last night (he feels like he lost the game because the final two big plays that allowed runs were from bad throws by him) - so ick he is down already - summer golf starts today - and the boys are doing a church musical that their piano teacher is doing for her church so they practice for a couple of weeks - ortho and physicals this week too - phew. Zach decided not to play football recently and I think that's too bad - I don't agree - he worked so hard - but on that I am going to have to step back and let him do what he will
better get to work
HI!!0 -
It's official. I need to move. The people I rent from are selling. Finding a new place isn't easy when I can't find something in my price range that it's in a good area. Sigh.0
-
Welcome back Marla. Glad your vacation was a success. Sounds like a busy summer for the boys. My two older boys dropped out of football after freshman year. Rory is the only one that played through senior year. Jeff preferred basketball and David put his energy into playing bass guitar in his rock band. They all find their niche and don't want to waste time with something that is not a passion.
Ang-Sorry you have to move again. I know you liked your place and had it the way you wanted it. How long do you have until you have to move out? Good luck with your hunt. Maybe the next place will be even better! Keep running to relieve your stress.
Have you heard of Cardio Drumming workouts? Well tonight I tried it. I have to say it's a funny concept but was lots of fun and gets the heart rate up too. Basically, two drum sticks, one therapy ball, and a large bucket are needed. The ball sits on the bucket and you hold the sticks and drum to music using arms and upper body while moving lower body (jumping, side to side, running in place, etc.) Different arm motions, hitting high, low, ground, etc. Hitting from over the head, side, behind,... It was a riot! I'll go again next week.
Busy nights until we leave 3 weeks from tomorrow for AK. Enjoying my week off and getting lots of errands done. Tomorrow I go look at quartz/granite remnants to see if I can find counter tops for our bathroom updates. I've checked out a couple of places but didn't like the prices or choices.
Tomorrow night Russ and I meet Jeff for dinner. Did I tell you his girlfriend broke up with him and is moving out of the house this week? I really liked her and hoped she would be my daughter-in-law. They had some big differences to work out and overcome. I guess it's better they split now than after marriage. She broke up with Jeff. He's sad and disappointed she did not want to work and compromise on their differences. I have this feeling that none of my boys will ever get married and I will not have grandchildren. At least not while I'm alive.
Well it is late and I should sleep so I can accomplish more tomorrow.
Sleep well and have a nice Thursday.
Jenny0 -
Marla - Welcome back! I saw your pictures on Facebook and it looked like a fabulous holiday for all.
Now back to laundry and reality.
Jenny - Sorry about your son and his girlfriend, I have been there so many times with my daughters I can't count. If its any consolation there will be more. Enjoy happy hour!
Ang - I hope you find the place you want soon. Keep on running!!
I am too am doing laundry and catching up after being gone since Sunday. I am still babying my knee with ice and tensor bandage. I went to the chiro today and it seems the same problem again, the band on the side of my leg tightens up but this time the side of my knee swelled. Not much pain just going
down stairs and I have alot in my house. She didn't think any cartilage problems because I could
bend it so much without any pain. I hope this isn't becoming a chronic thing.
The boat is in the water and it was cleaned on Friday but we have not gone sailing yet. We do have
our Sail Past on Sunday but they are predicting rain so fingers crossed we can get her out there.
We plan on taking Dave's mom if the weather is okay then food and cocktails after.
Today is finishing up laundry, groceries and my chiropractic apt. Dave is at the boat but I had too much to do.
Shirley0 -
Shirley - Hope your knee feels better.
Jenny - Now that sounds like an interesting workout!
Finding a new place in the same area I live isn't easy. The average cost of a one bedroom is more then I can afford. What I can afford is in a different city (still part of the municipality where I live) but it's the worse areas to live.
However, I may have found a place! One posted on Kijiji last Wednesday night. Two bedroom basement apartment - $600 a month. That's almost on heard of here!! I called and booked to see it Thursday night. I mapped it out and the walking distances to the stores and my church and my gym are exactly the same. I went and saw it and it couldn't be more perfect! The living room is large and has a large window letting in lots of light. The kitchen is a good size (I would have a stove again!) and there is a small window over the kitchen sink (something I have always dreamed of). The smaller bedroom is off the kitchen, but is a good size. I could use it was a library/office/craft room. The bathroom looked good and had a tub (something I haven't had in 3 years). I couldn't see in it very well as the power was cut off as the previous person there never paid it. The master room is large (bigger then any room I've had before) and has a large closet. I would have my own washer and dryer to use. It's just outside the apartment area. The place couldn't be more perfect. I filled out an application and turned it in. A few minutes ago, the current people I rent from, knocked on my door when I got home. The lady had called her today. (She had asked for the people I rent from contact information.) She said the lady seemed very interested in me. I can only wait and pray!
Next week my church is having a two day training seminar that I am going to, so I am taking the time off work for Monday and Tuesday. The other girl in the office who does property was off Thursday and Friday. I felt swamped and overwhelmed. I couldn't get a lot done that I needed to do before I was off for two days, so I went in to the office today. I learned a couple of things. (1) You can get a LOT of work done when you are the only one there!!! and (2) You discover that you can and cannot do when the internet crashes.
I've got a lot I need to do tonight before going to bed still. I signed up to bring 4 dozen cookies and 2 dozen muffins to the seminar at church next week for the coffee breaks. It's 7:30 and I've got supper cooking so I can eat before starting the baking. Going to be a late night!

Back to work tomorrow. Boo Hoo! Good news for me is 2- 1/2 more weeks of work and then 3 weeks off. I really like my breaks!
We had a 1st birthday party yesterday for our niece and then 2 graduation parties following that event. It rained buckets off and on all day and all parties were outside either under a pavilion at a park or in garages. It's beautiful out today!
I just got off the phone with my sister. She sure had news. A childhood friend (guy) was arrested in a prostitution ring last week. Wow! He is not a person you would ever figure to do this. He was a client and set up by the police along with 5 other men. He was a pillar of the small town community, manager of the country club, wife, kids, lots of friends. The guy had it all. Hard to believe but people do stupid things and we certainly don't know what is always going on in relationships or behind closed doors.
She also told me a high school classmate was just convicted of embezzling from her own mother. She had power of attorney for her mother and stole $100,000 over time to cover her gambling debts and her lifestyle choices for fine things. She married another guy in my class and they have had a good life. It's hard to believe she would even break the law but gambling debts get out of control and she was probably desperate to keep up her lifestyle and pay debts to casino.
My life is so quiet and pure!
I hope you feel better Shirley and your injury doesn't limit you this summer.
Ang- Fingers crossed and a prayer said for you to get that apartment. Let us know if you do.
Marla how is post vacation life going? Boys are done now with school aren't they? Is Zach taking driver's ed this summer? It will help to have another driver when he gets his license.
Well I must shower and get ready to do errands, weed, etc.
Have a nice day,
Jenny0 -
Ang - I hope you get this apartment you want and all will smooth and easy!
Shirley - hope your knee feels better soon
Jenny - people be crazy - not too long then your vacation!
I have been making Zach drive most every day on our trips to town for the stuff the are doing right now - he is doing pretty well - but boy is it stressful for me - Vacation Bible School started last night - the boys are helpers (and Caleb singing) - but there will be ball for Caleb as well this and that musical they are doing with their piano teachers church - and I need to get Zach signed up for another golf oppportunity - busy, busy - and fair is only a couple of weeks away - BLECK! I am worried about Caleb and his weight - he is back to not wanting to do anything for activity (baseball, but I don't count that as activity really) and I know we are just a few weeks away from school resuming and he will be back in the dumps if he doesn't make at least a small change - sigh - I wish I was a better mom and had stopped it from happening in the first place - I should have been that mom who never had junk in the house and made fresh organic meals and not cater to picky tastes. Its hard to overeat if there is nothing yummy in the house and hold firm on what a serving is - sigggghhh - so worried about helping him slim down some without making him feel worse - bleck
0 -
Marla - A hard job keeping Caleb on track and we all have that problem including myself.
Jenny - Back to reality but looking forward to more time off!!
Ang - the apartment sounds perfect for you!! I hope you do get it. My daughter was in a basement apartment in Toronto once and loved it. She had a male roomate, did you think about that to share
the cost?
Its a high of 68F today and I am wearing long pants. We did not make the Sail Past due to weather and wind. It still went on as we saw pictures on facebook. Dave has been working on the freezer at the boat and its almost finished. We hope to get the boat out on a sail this weekend. I do have a large craft show on Saturday I am attending with two friends. One person I don't know that well but it should be fun. If its raining we will go on Sunday since its a weekend show. I hope we go Saturday so we can stay overnight on the boat.
We are having two real estate agents do a walk through on our house to see what it is worth. We are
not planning on selling but the market is hot right now and we just want to see how we could get for it.
I am doing two Daily Showdowns on Fitbit today so I better keep moving.
I had my chiropractic apt yesterday and the knee swelling has gone down alot and the soreness is improving. My chiro doctor gave me an exercise to do to strengthen the areas around the knee.
I did yoga yesterday without pain so I am on the mend.
Shirley0 -
Feels like it should be Thursday, busy week. I'm plugging away at paperwork so I get all done that needs to be before my 3 week break. So far I'm on track.
I got cortisone shots in both knees yesterday. They didn't hurt last time but they did this time. This doctor did not spray numbing stuff on first. Ouch! Hopefully they get me through the AK trip. Actually, taking the glucosamine and ibuprofen has helped alot even though I don't like ingesting all the pills and concerns for what it does to my insides.
My friend and I saw the movie Me Before You today. We read the book last year for book club. Even though we knew the ending we both cried a lot!
Ang- any news on apartment? Fingers crossed!
Shirley- I hope you get good weather so you can sail. I like craft shows! Good luck with home appraisal. We are working on bathroom updates.
Marla- Caleb may thin out when he grows taller. Don't stress about it too much. Just try to offer healthier snacks and balanced meals. It's hard when life is so busy. Don't beat yourself up. You are a caring, loving, good mom!
I will go to cardio drumming again tomorrow eve. Looking forward to it. It's so quirky!
Rory is loving his experience in Ecuador. He emailed last Thursday when they returned to Quito and he had internet. They were going to Banios for horseback riding and hot springs. They also went to clubs in Quito. He said the reserve has large hills and hikes are up and down steep inclines in the mud. He's getting good exercise.
Well time to relax since I just finished more paperwork. I should be done writing new plans by next week and then I have files to purge and checklists to complete for admin. Ugh!
Night!
Jenny0 -
Jenny - so glad Rory is making the most of his experience - prayers for continued safety and well-being!
Good luck Ang on the apartment
Shirley - both you and Jenny with the knee struggles - booo - hope you both feel better!
Another busy week - spending a few minutes looking at those boxed meal deliveries - built in portion control0 -
The boxed meals sound interesting let us know how they are.
I went to Yoga today and no knee issues, It is getting better. I think I caught a bug because feeling like
crap I should have stayed home from yoga because it was torture when you hurt all over. Now taking it easy and watching TV with me and my Tylenol. I was going to clean upstairs today hopefully tomorrow I will feel better.
Shirley0 -
Marla, we like Hello Fresh meals. Blue Apron and Home Chef are two others. May want to check out how family friendly menu choices are.
Shirley, sorry your not feeling well. My cortisone shots are kicking in. Stairs and lots of walking at work no issues.
Cardio drumming was fun and worked up a sweat. It burns about 300 calories.
Watching Twins game with Russ. Winning so far.
Busy day so time to relax.
Jenny0
