Way behind in personals but wanted to say thanks to (Janet or Jeanette? I don't recall who recommended ginger tea). I was sipping on it today and I'm much better. It seems to build up over time as far as stress goes, then it starts to get to me.

Karla, Izzy is adorable. My daughter loves Paw Patrol, too!

Diane: wow, what a loss! Great job!

I'm too far behind on personals to catch up but wanted to say hello!

Oh, and did I tell you all about this great weight management program through my work that I'm doing...I have a wellness/health coach who helps me set goals each week, and they set up webinars, etc. It's all very interesting and good info. It's a total wellness program, so weight loss, better sleep habits, stress management, nutrition, exercise, etc.

    That's all from me...night all!

Beth= When I worked for a major hospital here in Mobile, through Ascension Health, they had an employee health program called New You, that was wonderful. We all lost weight and enjoyed it, then they did away with it. LOL. Thanks for the compliment on my Izzy, she is my heart and soul. We had her from Saturday afternoon until Monday evening. She was a pure joy. Ginger has many positive effects. I have some of the chunks of it in my freezer and my GF Trish just swears by it. Glad it is helping you dear.

I achieved my 10k steps, but not all the way to the 12k as I desired. Tomorrow I plan on taking Brittany, Chris' girlfriend with me to get a pedi. Getting primped for this fun weekend coming up. The housekeepers were supposed to come tomorrow too, but called and said they needed to come Friday instead. I have been craving that Taco Ring by Pampered chef so I picked up the cressant rolls tonight in the reduced fat. These are sooooo tasty. I may make them in chicken this time.

I am still reeling on my big unexpected loss for this week. I ran into one of the ladies I did the antique booth rental with at Wallie World and she just raved over how good I looked. So sweet.

    Hi Girls-
I braved the scale and very unhappy to report up another 1.5 pounds. I am on plan but i guess the stress is just doing me in. I have to find someway around it but not sure what to do.
When I look at my food journal I see I am eating too many sweets, which are my go-to comfort food. I guess the cortisol is loving that. I was doing good yesterday until after lunch at 1/2 cup m & M's
then before bed a cup of sleepy time tea and 3 cookies. They didn't make me feel better and today I feel worse.
I think my business trip next week will give me some time to reflect- airport sitting and flying will be do nothing for me. I won't work on the plane, just breathe.
Maybe I need the container program Bert talked about- to reign in portions and tell myself when I'm done- I'm really done.
Sorry to vent but feeling really low. I worked so hard to take off the 40 pounds with 30 to go and now I've added back 11-
I have a post it note on my desk - Today I'm going to eat like I love myself. Guess I'm not living up to that.
No energy for personals. But I'll be back later.

Good morning sweet friends and welcome to mid-week.

Dear Cindy- your post brought tears to my eyes my dear friend. We have all been exactly where you are. Making choices we know are counter productive but unable to resist mentally. I just know once the sun shines everyday with some warmth to it and you can get outside to your garden you will flourish with your soul again. You are making baby steps. Glenn is one that must have a sweet bite after dinner. He had an ice cream sandwich last night. I found this article on WebMD . Probably nothing we don't all know, but maybe some tidbit you might take away from it. <3

How to Stop Sugar Cravings: 8 Tips to Use Right Now
If you're craving sugar, here are some ways to tame those cravings.

Give in a little. Eat a bit of what you’re craving, maybe a small cookie or a fun-size candy bar, suggests Kerry Neville, MS, RD, a registered dietitian and ADA spokeswoman. Enjoying a little of what you love can help you steer clear of feeling denied. Try to stick to a 150-calorie threshold, Neville says.
Combine foods. If the idea of stopping at a cookie or a baby candy bar seems impossible, you can still fill yourself up and satisfy a sugar craving, too. "I like combining the craving food with a healthful one," Neville says. "I love chocolate, for example, so sometimes I’ll dip a banana in chocolate sauce and that gives me what I’m craving, or I mix some almonds with chocolate chips." As a beneficial bonus, you'll satisfy a craving and get healthy nutrients from those good-for-you foods.
Go cold turkey. Cutting out all simple sugars works for some people, although "the initial 48 to 72 hours are tough," Gerbstadt says. Some people find that going cold turkey helps their cravings diminish after a few days; others find they may still crave sugar but over time are able to train their taste buds to be satisfied with less.
Grab some gum. If you want to avoid giving in to a sugar craving completely, try chewing a stick of gum, says nutrition advisor Dave Grotto, RD, LDN. "Research has shown that chewing gum can reduce food cravings," Grotto says.
Reach for fruit. Keep fruit handy for when sugar cravings hit. You'll get fiber and nutrients along with some sweetness. And stock up on foods like nuts, seeds, and dried fruits, says certified addiction specialist Judy Chambers, LCSW, CAS. "Have them handy so you reach for them instead of reaching for the old [sugary] something."
Get up and go. When a sugar craving hits, walk away. "Take a walk around the block or [do] something to change the scenery," to take your mind off the food you’re craving, Neville suggests.
Choose quality over quantity. "If you need a sugar splurge, pick a wonderful, decadent sugary food," Moores says. But keep it small. For example, choose a perfect dark chocolate truffle instead of a king-sized candy bar, then "savor every bite -- slowly," Moores says. Grotto agrees. "Don’t swear off favorites -- you’ll only come back for greater portions. Learn to incorporate small amounts in the diet but concentrate on filling your stomach with less sugary and [healthier] options."
Eat regularly. Waiting too long between meals may set you up to choose sugary, fatty foods that cut your hunger, Moores says. Instead, eating every three to five hours can help keep blood sugar stable and help you "avoid irrational eating behavior," Grotto says. Your best bets? "Choose protein, fiber-rich foods like whole grains and produce," Moores says.
But won't eating more often mean overeating? Not if you follow Neville's advice to break up your meals. For instance, have part of your breakfast -- a slice of toast with peanut butter, perhaps -- and save some yogurt for a mid-morning snack. "Break up lunch the same way to help avoid a mid-afternoon slump," Neville says.

TT: Name something you have done lately for just you. As women, wives, mothers, friends, Aunts, Sisters, Grandmothers, etc., we are always doing for others. It is important to take time for ourselves for our soul and health. A therapist once asked a friend of mine to take just fie minutes each day to just sit and do nothing. Don't think, don't read, just sit there. She couldn't believe how difficult it was or how long it felt. Try it today!

    ********

The doctor was very concerned about my fall and my ability to drive safely. She documented everything and wants me to return to the neurologists to document the head injury and return of the neuralgia. She said a CT Scan may be needed and she did a chest xray because of the blow to the chest. My BP was 128/82 and I was down 8 pounds since the first of January when I was there on a good note. My pinkie is better. I reviewed with her my dismay about the eye and it's ability to improve enough to have the surgery. She asked what the doctor at UAB was saying and when I returned. I go back up there next month and we will see. I go off the Prednisolone this weekend and I pray I don't get tarhe red eyeball. Anyway, I will stay positive and hope for the best and deal with what I am dealt, heaven knows it could be worst!!

I'm excited for Brittany and I to spend some time together today. I've already started packing for my weekend trip. I picked up a small trinket for each of my BFF's for this weekend, we are all big tea drinkers and it was a tea bag holder that says "it's always time for tea".

    Back later,

Good Morning, Ladies. I'm heading to the mall today to register my grand-daughter for "Lunch with the Princesses". I think she will love it. I saw the sign while I was walking.

Cindy: I have not received my containers yet from Amazon. My daughter-in-law did the 21 days, so I thought I'd try it. I made a stir fry yesterday as a late lunch, breaded some eggplant and sauteed it (probably wasn't on the plan), and broiled some fish. I'll be anxious to see what actually fits in the containers. I'm with you on the sweets.....I have a horrible sweet tooth and always want something for "dessert". We always had dessert when I was growing up.

I'm hoping to get a hair cut today. I haven't had one since before my surgery, so it's definitely time to get it done.

I'm happy to report I got 10K steps yesterday!

I frequently indulge in a fun size Milky Way. I find that if I don't let myself have something sweet, I over eat on other things to satisfy my cravings.

That's a good idea to combine something healthy with something sweet. So does putting peanuts on ice cream count? :o)

I have been eating the Nature Valley protein bars. The dietitian at the hospital said the making sure I have enough protein will help with my recovery with my muscles. I eat the peanut butter/dark chocolate, and that also helps with my sweets cravings.

I try to eat smaller meals more often as well. It helps with hunger and also the blood sugar.

TT: Something I have done for myself lately is purchasing my Garmin Vivofit. The data is about me and me only. It helps me keep focused on moving. Another thing I've done for myself lately is just taking the time to work jigsaw puzzles. I know I purchased them to have something to do during my recover, but have rediscovered that they are fun to do.

Karla: Good luck with your eye. Enjoy your time with your friends. I'm sure you'll have a great time. I love spending time with my best friend. She goes to doctor appointments with me and then we have lunch together and then shop. We also try to have lunch every other week as well.

Bert- You are sounding so happy these days. I feel the same way about my Garmin VivoFit. It has really inspired me. Last night while watching my two NCIS shows every time the commercials came on I was UP rounding the living room and kitchen. LOL. I racked up 2000 steps that way. I love my BFF's too. This weekend my BFF of 40 years will finally meet my BFF of 28 years!!! I can't wait. We will have a ball. We all have the Vivofit's and are on the Garmin Group I created. We hope to be able to walk the beach in Destin But just being together will be great. Our husbands all get along great too. I'm so happy your recovery has been so fantastic. I bet you will do great with the 21 Day Fix.

Another day, another chance to get it right. We all have the ability to do it but don't always have the stamina or heart to face what has to be done.

Cindy, sorry you jumped on the scale and are now feeling so down because of it. Maybe you don't need to reign in the sugar cravings as much as you need to find a way to deal with your stress that doesn't involve sugar. For now maybe you should plan some sweetness into your daily food plan. If there are times that you always reach for sugar then save some calories and plan your snacks accordingly. You are adding stress by eating things you have told yourself are forbidden to you. Your stress is obviously a part of your life for now, don't let it BE your life. Eat your treats mindfully, enjoy and savor every bite. Eat them as a way to do something for yourself. Maybe if you take the guilt out of them they won't have such power over you. If you know you have treats pre planned as part of your day you may not go to them mindlessly. But most importantly stop beating yourself up. You don't need the added stress. Always remember we are here when you need us!

Bert, so glad you have found something you truly enjoy doing just for the fun of doing it. You have really done so well since your surgery.

Karla, what fun to have the people in your life meet each other. I wish my BFF from Texas could meet my daughter. I know they would really like each other. I hope you have stopped driving at night. It is a pain but an accident would certainly be more painful to you and those around you.

Janet, I can't wait to see what your personal stylist comes up with. Bet there will be a style or two you hadn't even considered and I bet you will rock it!

Yesterday was a mixed bag. Had a wonderful time with Mom. So hard not to spill the beans about her party. Then TRX was a killer new workout and today my right hand is aching because I was gripping the handle too hard. There was a huge warehouse fire near the gym and they had to shut down the power in the area. They closed the gym as soon as our class was finished. Glad it worked out so we could get our class in. Then got home and ran into a whole slew of frustrating problems, all financial, and that threw me for a loop. Edd offered to get us Taco Bell and I caved! Not the worst choice I could have made but not the best either. Just didn't have the energy to fix the dinner I had planned, so that will be tonight. Need to get to my craft room and start cutting paper.

TT: I always consider my gym time as something I do just for me. Never dreamed I would consider exercise pampering but I do. It helps me in ways that have nothing to do with weight loss. Last week when I did not work out at all I felt out of sorts with myself.

    Good morning!
I ended up with Alanna all day yesterday; to the point I actually had to take her to the dance studio with me and her dad picked her up there. Then I taught my two classes; then I slept pretty well last night!
This is a big deal because it has been that the more I do the worse I sleep, so that I had a very busy day and then slept well is yet another sign that I am doing much better….I am so very thankful for that!

TT: I am a little ashamed to say I have always been good at doing for myself. I don’t know if it is survival instinct or just selfishness but I’ve always found ways to get my “me” time

Karla – I love storms, I love lightning and thunder and wind…all of it. I like snuggling down inside like you did with your sweet little Izzy and I also like walking out in it when it is safe to do so! Love the picture of
your little angel; thanks for sharing  I feel like Alanna and I have a special bond and it will be interesting to see how my relationship with Avery grows as she gets older. And then of course my other daughter
will start having kids eventually; I can’t imagine being as close to them as Alanna. Congratulations on the weight loss and being in ONEDERLAND!!! That is very exciting. Praying things get sorted out with your eye and
all that is going on with you

Cindy – sorry it didn’t work out for you to enter the contest this year, but I hope the judging part was a fun alternative. Lights are down…only took me two months to get to it heehee. Brian is getting his bachelor’s
    degree in business administration with a minor in finance. He has two more classes and then is done!! I’m sorry about the weight gain; believe me I definitely understand that frustration! You feel free to vent any time;
we are here to support you when you are up and when you are down. Keep at it, don’t give up because you CAN do it.

Patti – glad the van is fixed and you have that vehicle again. Glad you had a good day with your mom and that you were able to keep your surprise; the party you have planned for her sounds great, I’m sure she’ll be tickled.
Well done with the positive attitude. You’ll get there, sometimes we just have to be more patient than we want to be.

Diane – I can’t help but wonder if you weren’t just swollen the week before when you seemed to have gained weight. I know I get swollen when I eat certain foods. Any way you look at it well done on the weight loss! And I agree
about spending time with family being the priority. My kids will ask what they can get me and I have to think hard to come up with small things I wouldn’t mind having; mostly I just look forward to spending time with them all.

Janet – oooo my heart aches a little for your childhood you; it’s a bummer it messed you up for good. I am trying to get back to a size 10 and will be perfectly happy with that! I am not an awards show fan, but also we don’t get
regular tv. Anything we watch is either Netflix or online; great bonus in that is no commercials!

MaryLynn – We’re on the same page as far as clothing goes. When I do get back to where I can wear the clothes I used to I’ll have to wash them because I’ve noticed they’ve gathered dust. It is a good thing I’m not particular about
fashion or style because they are all pretty dated. I very much appreciate your friendship here too.

Beth – so glad the ginger tea is helping you out. And glad you found a system you are excited about and that is working for you!

Well I’d best be off to get moving on my day. Today is review day in the college classes I teach then next week I test them on what they’ve learned so far. Every semester the students get so worried about the test and I keep telling them it is easy,
but they don’t believe me until they take the midterm. Then for the final they are much more relaxed.

    Have a wonderful day
    Grace and peace to you
    Jeanette

I just wish I could wave a magic wand over those of you that are struggling. I know in your heart your really want to get there, and truly believe you will. Perfection is definitely not the key, just daily steps towards your overall health. Fitness alone won't do it, eating alone you ave a better chance, but a combination is good too. /what is so frustrating is there really are some very tasting low fat and nutritious foods both is sweets and spicy. We have to plan and have the foods on hand at all times. Believe me, if I am without my Greek yogurt on SF Russell Stover chocolates, I can get in trouble. They are my go-to foods.

Patt- Have you called your healthcare provider to see if they offered health coaches?

    Cindy- Maybe yours does too?

I am off to the nail salon. I had quite a workout cleaning out the fridge!!

Hello OMG friends. I am here, i am reading, i am appreciating you all. I will resume personals when i'm able. the sun is shining here today, which is a wonderful thing indeed.

Diane: thank you for your concern. I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression 30 years ago. I've been on/off meds (from psychiatrist) for that long. mostly on for the past 20 years. the illness i have is considered "treatment resistant" so I've tried MANY things to improve. i'll keep trying :)

I just received my color coded containers and am currently reading Autumn Calabrese "FixATE" cookbook. (I ordered it from Amazon). It has the containers to be used for each recipe for one serving. I'm hoping to try many of the recipes.

    Great discussions today!

My coffeemaker declared its death this morning by "throwing up" all over my counter. It's been on its last legs for weeks, despite a couple of careful cleanings. So what I've done for myself is to buy a high-quality coffeemaker (did due diligence the last few weeks, knowing it was coming). Black coffee is important to my life! I'll set it up tonight and set the timer for morning.

This meant the extensive errands planned for tomorrow were done today. Dinner out tomorrow so will eat sparingly before then.

Bert, the latest puzzle is so beautiful and had to be a bear to do. Around here, puzzle pieces would become cat toys quickly, so I couldn't leave a puzzle sitting out.

Jeanette, I know you relished a full day with Alanna -- bet she loves all the sights at the studio.

Karla, hope the eye settles down soon. What a fun weekend you're going to have!

Patti, glad you had good time with your mom.

Myra, one of my dearest friends has treatment-resistant depression too. She has tried many meds and therapies and sometimes it's one step forward, two steps back. Can't imagine how difficult it must be for you but we're here for you.

Cindy, you'll get there. It's not always the right time. Am very happy to know you've promised yourself you'll just chill on the planes. I tried to make that my policy when I traveled for work, too. Didn't always happen (of necessity) but I tried. The bosses wanted us working 24/7 but ...

Time to get the new coffeemaker out! Later, my friends.

What a day! Starting with yesterday, actually. Monday we had snow all day, then it turned to sleet and ice overnight. So yesterday was a 3 hour delay for work, or unscheduled leave or telework. I went in as soon as it got light - couldn't get back to sleep and was worried about the shower, and I hate waiting because traffic only gets worse. But of course on delay days the gym doesn't open. So took all my stuff for the baby shower, only to find out that the other two people helping with it decided to telework! And lots of people were out, so we decided to reschedule for today. We had the boss schedule an All Hands meeting as a ruse, so had to get him to reschedule that, find a different conference room, etc. (And of course the mom-to-be had made it to work in the ice, because I told her the all-hands meeting was a had-to occasion!)

Today the gym was open, so I got a workout in, then carried the three loads of stuff in from the car. I had an hour to help set up this morning, then all day meetings. I pulled the mom-to-be in for a discussion and ran it five minutes long so we were five minutes "late" to the all hands meeting. She was totally surprised and overwhelmed! Very gratifying. This is an office of primarily men, but almost everyone was there for the beginning and stayed and talked for a while. A couple stayed for quite a while - the couple of young dads, especially. So that was nice. We had gotten a group gift card for her to get something big she needs, then a few of us brought gifts as well so that she could open a few things. She was very happy, and as I said, very surprised! WE had way too much food, but sent some home with her and set the rest out in the kitchen at work - I'm sure it didn't last the day! I brought a few things home but I shouldn't have, because now they are tempting me.

I will post a few pictures once I upload them from my phone - always a challenge for me.

But after work is when the horrible part of my day started. John and I drove separately today (we usually carpool) because he had to leave midday for a flight to FL for a business trip. I worked later than usual, and was in horrible traffic when my transmission started acting up. I nursed it along the bumper-to-bumper part, totally lost all poser once, but got it going again, until I got to the highway where there is a shoulder at least, and pulled over. It wouldn't go over 30 mph. I sat there for a few minutes, tried to get hold of John - no luck, he was still in the air. Called my son, who suggested I try turning the engine off and back on. I had been afraid it wouldn't start again, but I tried it and it seemed to miraculously heal the transmission! Made it home, staying carefully in the right lane the whole time so I could coast to the shoulder if necessary. Pulled into my driveway and the UPS man had left a large box in front of my garage door. So I stopped, put the car in park, got out and moved the box, and tried to pull into the garage. It wouldn't get into gear, and barely moved when I manually put it in 2nd gear, but enough to get in the garage. About this time John called back (he is an excellent car mechanic) and had me find the transmission dip stick and dip it. That was an ordeal - dark in the garage, I am so short I can't really see in the engine compartment - had to get the manual out to find where the transmission dip was and the picture in it was almost useless! Transmission fluid smells burnt and is foaming - NOT a good sign at all. John won't be home until tomorrow night. I'll take his truck to work tomorrow (I HATE driving the truck!) Of course, we just spent about $2000 on fixing the two broken motor mounts and replacing the timing chain...

So, needless to say I am very stressed out. Daughter is working late, so instead of fixing a proper dinner I have been stress snacking on all kinds of junk. I'm not even trying to track either party food or my snacking tonight. I've declared the kitchen closed and will now STOP, but the damage is done. :(.

Diane, the shower sounds like a rousung success and the decorations and snacks were gorgeous! How did you make the green eggs? Glad you got home safely -- so scary when something like that happens. Hoping John can fix it fairly easily and economically. Fingers crossed.

Try to take it easy tonight.
