Glorious Sunday here. Edd is off with his buds on a bike ride. He invited me but I declined. Not quite warm enough for me and this way he can take the smaller bike. He gets more joy out of riding than anyone I know. Plus I will enjoy some alone time. He got my car fixed, the van will have to wait. Got the invites done and they have already been picked up, I think I have one left so I can take a pick. I worked on them until 2:30 am. They were extremely well received. Heard from my son and he won't be here for Mom's party. He got a new job and will be out of town for training for the next two weeks. His wife is going to join him next weekend, so she won't be here either. Looks like there will be about 15 of us and that should be enough. My daughter, grandson and his fiancée are coming so I am really happy about that.

    Now to enjoy my day

Good Afternoon, Ladies......we have returned from our weekend. We had a great time, and I did some damage with Brighton jewelry! I bought a bracelet and a pair of earrings. We lost a little in the slot machines, but that's ok. It was good to get away, just the two of us. I got 12K+ steps in just looking around the hotels and checking the sights. I did overeat somewhat, but will definitely get back to cleaner eating this week.

I am considering changing our tv service to Direct TV or Dish.....we have Time Warner Cable, and the bill just keeps going up. We have to have boxes to watch certain channels, and each box has a fee to it.....thoughts?

The weather here has been wonderful this weekend! Yesterday was perfect; sunny, in the 60's and no wind. Today is windy, but nice. I'm taking the day off from too much walking....I'm resting today as I didn't sleep well last night. (shocker! hotel bed, snoring hubby ;) )

These are pictures of one of the hotels. We didn't stay there but the atmosphere is amazing. There was a harpist playing.

Bert, your getaway sounds wonderful. What a beautiful hotel -- bet it's especially gorgeous at Christmastime. Your bracelet and earrings are lovely. I don't think I've ever been in a Brighton store -- looks dangerous!

Patti, the invitation is spectacular. You are an artist and have created something memorable for the couple and all who are invited. Enjoy your solo time. Glad the car is fixed -- Edd is a marvel.

Ventured to Lowe's for several things and am going to try to grow a few herbs in pots. Got larger pots for my cheap little orchids and bought another plant. I am such a brown-thumb though ... but it will be fun to try. A friend sent me several packets of flower seeds (I call them "flower eggs") and I'm going to plant some and maybe have blooming boxes on my deck if they germinate. Did a bit of work in the garage because it was so nice out, have done one load of laundry so far and changed the furnace filter. I try to remember to do that every couple of months.

Treated myself to a McDonald's cone because it was so nice out (aside from being seriously windy). Thinking abuot a little siesta here -- will be up late watching the Oscars.

    Patti: Your invitations are pretty.

Janet: I love Brighton jewelry. Each piece is unique.

Both hotels are historic buildings. My chuckle is the hotel and casino we stayed in (not pictured) is where my first hubby and I had our honeymoon ! I really think the wallpaper is the original! Also this town is where Larry Bird grew up.

Today was another busy day. Church and Sunday school, then I went and helped my son tile his master bathroom floor. John was busy helping with sound and lights at the middle school musical. Son and I got all the tile cut and about half of it cemented in place. I forgot to put my Fitbit on until after I got home from church, and I had 39 flights of stairs and 7500 steps after working at my son’s house! Wish I had remembered it this morning and I would definitely have hit my 10K step goal.

I forget who asked – my Cherokee is granite (so a dark smoky grey.)

To catch up on some of the discussion topics:

Gardening: I really enjoy gardening. At our previous house, we had a huge vegetable garden and grew so many veggies. We now live in the woods, and I am limited to shade plants. The last few years we have tried a few patio tomatoes, herbs and peppers in pots on the deck.

Vacations: We are planning a week in Charly (the motor home) to the Smoky Mountains in May. Then in July we are going to Norway for about two weeks! Fall will be long weekends in Charly, just local places.

Patti, the invitations turned out lovely! I’m glad you posted a picture – I was thinking that the lace stamp was going to be a medallion or something. It’s too bad your mom didn’t enjoy going to the stamping group with you – it would be nice for her to get to know some other people in town.

Karla, so exciting that Glenn is going to put in his retirement papers for August! You love to travel so much, I can see that you will really enjoy it. Now you need to REALLY wean your clients off!

Janet you are getting ready for spring! We can’t grow much either, living in the woods. I’ve been reduced to a few pots on the deck as well. We used to have a huge garden, and I really enjoyed it. The last two years I’ve planted a pepper plant that grows tiny little hot peppers. I don’t use many for cooking, but it is such a pretty plant! The mini little peppers grow from the branch pointing upward.

Suzi if you are reading I have really been enjoying your vacation pictures. It sounds like you are getting plenty of hiking in.

Bert it sounds like you had a delightful weekend. All that walking! I’m not a big gambler, so I think the looking at all the hotels and shops is a great get-away.

Myra hope your back is feeling better today. John’s back gets bad spasms like that, and he has to just lay down and alternate ice and heat for a day or two.

MaryLynn glad your foot is already feeling better. But baby it for a few more days. Upper body work is important too! I loved the waterfall picture – yes you live in a part of the world that inspires an outdoor active life.

Jeanette I have a FitBit One and I love it. It counts steps and flights of stairs. I haven’t linked it with MFP yet, but I strive for 10K steps and 15 flights of stairs a day, and it definitely motivates me to move more. I have experienced terrific customer service from them. Over TWO years after I bought mine it just quit one day. They were able to look at my account see exactly when it stopped and that I had kept it charged, and sent me a brand new one with no more questions asked. I generally synch mine using the phone app.

Good evening ladies, finishing dinner and getting ready for the Oscars.

Bert- Oh the casino's are always so lovely and old hotels are such a charming place. I adore Brighton jewelry as they have such nostalgic charm. I purchased the double crescent moon because that is special with Izzy and I. We giggle and say Nana loves her to the Moon and back. Each line of their jewelry has a story, and is unique as you said. High quality, not cheap, and never tarnishes. So glad we finally managed to get you added on my walking group on Garmin today!! Our week starts over tomorrow!

Patti- Your invitation is so lovely, and I know quite appreciated. Is this going to be the outside wedding? I bet you are on pins and needles about your Mom's party. Is it going to be at your home?

Janet- I had to purchase a large storage container today to store away some of the office trays and bins I no longer need. I dropped off two of the large bags of clothes and shoes to the Good will. I am so proud of my progress. I told Jason and Angelique this afternoon about giving Chris his walking papers to move out, they were shocked. Chris went about a job last week and they asked him to come in on Tuesday. He also obtained car insurance and got his car tag. It has been nice helping the boy out, but it past time for him to fly on his own. No news on the job front for his father.

I am excited to see my weigh in for Tuesday. I hope to be down pretty good after a small loss last week. I feel my body changing and my face is definitely showing signs of slimming down. I can also wear my anniversary band again!! Yippeeee. I have been diligent with tracking, eating and getting over 9k-12k steps since the first week of January and here we are going into March on Tuesday. That is a long consistency for me, and that is what it takes!! Thank you one and all for you kind support.

Mary Lynn - I have added you to my list for updating your mini goal.

PLEASE NOTE YOU MINRI GOAL FOR UPDATING PLEASE.

Diane, you sure got a lot done today, even without the Fitbit all day I know you hit your goal. We need to tear out the back wall of our shower, put in new cement board and retile. It is on the list but our cars keep breaking down and just haven't gotten to it yet but it will happen this year, lol. It is not that Mom didn't enjoy the card making, her eyesight is so bad that she cannot participate and felt a bit out of place. She will join us for luncheons and dinners just not for the card group.

Karla, the party will be here. My sister told her she won a photo shoot for a family portrait and scheduled the sitting for Saturday. I thought it was a stroke of genius to make sure she was dressed for the occasion. Once they pull in the driveway to "pick us up" the jig will be up because all the guests will be here for the party. So happy that you have found your sweet spot with eating, tracking and exercise. Oh and the wedding is indoors. I told the kids today that I am free to help set up and decorate, also volunteered Edd. The wedding isn't until 5pm and there is always so much going on the day of the wedding, I want to lighten her load.

Janet, you certainly got a lot done and got some outdoor time too. Hope you got your nap in so you can stay up for the Oscars.

Cindy, hope you are feeling better. Enjoyed your blog today, so you must be a on the mend if you are thinking about gardening.

I have loved all your pictures of jewelry this week. I am just not much of a girly-girl I guess. I have very little jewelry and most of what I do have was gifted to me. If I have extra money I will usually save it for a trip or for tickets to a play or for crafting supplies. Now that I am on a fixed income I am even less inclined to buy jewelry, but I sure love looking at all that everyone has. My two BFF's have some of the most beautiful stuff and it looks so good on them. I always felt it look wrong or out of place on me. Guess I am just a grown up tomboy. My daughter is the very same. I have only ever seen her in her wedding rings and a ring on her right hand. I don't even think she has pierced ears, lol.

Here's a quote that really speaks to me, hope you enjoy it too:
Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them - that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like. Lao Tzu

Seems I have rambled on about nothing forever here so I will give you all a rest. Until tomorrow my friends.

Myra- no problem dear, I will probably get a couple more today and will update again today. We can always use a good smile!!

TT: I ran acorrs my Beck Diet Solution while Spring cleaning my bedroom and thought I would share some topics from him that may help us:

In the introduction she starts off with some wisdom from people who have faed rough patches in dieting and gotten through them:

    I now know:

I can control my eating if I plan in advance what I need to do and if I practice what I need to say over and over to myself.

when I'm tempted to eat something I shouldn't, I need to pull ou my list that contains all the reasons i want to lose weight.

just because I'm hungry doesn't necessarily mean I should eat

cravings always go away, and there are things I an do to make them go aways faster. I don't have to give in to them.

if I don't follow a nutrtious diet, i am more likely to cheat.

I have to make time for dieting and exercise.

I have to prepare in advance for sabotaging thinking.

I need to sit down and eat slowly and notice every bite-- every time I eat.

I have to watch out for fooling myself. Every single time I put food in my mouth, it maters.

***Group challenge -- Pick one sentence above and explain how it resonates with you and your journey. ***

I have to go to my Vision client today for a connection issue we are having. I then have my appointment with my neurologist about my neuralgia and the fall. Hopefully I will have my connection fixed and can come home and get my work caught up. I have been locked out since last Tuesday's storm. I do want to stop by Lowe's and pick up some Gerber Daisies and some bunny rabbit statues to put in my planters.

    I'll check back later on,

Seize the day!! It's yours for the taking...

Good Morning, Ladies.....another sunny day today. It helps me to get myself going.

Karla: My mini goal is DRINK WATER AND GET 10k STEPS EACH DAY...I hope I'm not setting myself up, but that's what I want to accomplish.

Here's a computer question for you. I have always created the pages for our musical programs in Word. I'm trying to copy and paste pages into one entire document (I've always been able to do this); however, for some reason, it' won't let me do it and I've lost my work when I close it out. I would love any help/tips.......We are going to print it tomorrow.

Breakfast is tracked. I'm heading to the gym today.

Good morning ladies! It sounds like several of you are having nicer weather; so glad to hear that. Miss Alanna was sick yesterday morning and so we did not go to church and had her dad come pick her up a bit early. I had tests to correct so spent the rest of the day between that and doing nothing; sometimes that is just the ticket.

I wanted to comment on the jewelry; I don’t wear jewelry much. Not because I am not a fan but because it just isn’t something that comes to mind for me. It is impractical for me to wear it while I teach, so the only day I would actually wear any is Sunday and I just don’t think of it that one day a week.

MaryLynn – I’m glad your foot is already feeling better. I think we get into a pattern of eating and when we decrease it, even for good reason, our bodies say “hey! Where is all that good food!” When I get those phantom hunger rumblings I remind myself I have gotten all the nutrition I need, that I don’t NEED to eat; for me this usually works.

Karla – I had looked at the water-proof thing with Garmin, but I don’t swim right now and I am too fidgety to wear the watch all the time. My number one priority is to have a HRM, I want to know how many calories I am burning and be sure to eat close to that many until I am feeling even more myself. I can see it being a motivator! When I sync it I like to see what all has been “going on” and it does make me want to achieve goals like steps and such. I’ve only worn it at night once, so far (kept wanting to take it off) but I really like that feature too.

TT: I have to watch out for fooling myself, but not necessarily about food. I mentioned previously the little mannerisms I’ve noticed, like wearing a sweater and pulling it forward to try to hide the rolls. I don’t often get my picture taken (I’m usually behind the camera) and I’m not one to look in mirrors much so it’s been easy for me to say “I’m not THAT big”.

Diane – what a wonderful reward for your work! Your trip sounds exciting and rewarding and I’m so happy for you. Also, I’m glad you decided on the Jeep. We have a Subaru and it is the most uncomfortable car I’ve ever driven. I’m glad to hear from a happy Fitbit owner! I am still getting used to mine and think it will work out; I don’t like to wear it 24/7 so it doesn’t bother me much that I have to have it so close to the dongle for it to sync….though I may call them anyway to report it just in case it turns out to be an issue that gets worse later.

Myra – so glad to hear your back is feeling better! Happy belated birthday to your mom; mine will be 83 in May.

Patti – thank you for the input on the Fitbit; I got a Surge because having the HRM was important to me. They are coming out with a new one next month, but I didn’t want to wait and I’m not an innovator in that sense; I’d rather get something that has been proven to work. Yikes that your mom hit a pole! Poor dear, things like that are always rattling. I LOVE the invites you made, your DIL is very lucky to have you to make those for her. Your scheme for your mom’s birthday party sounds wonderful! I’m sure she will love it

Bert – thanks for sharing the pics, your trip sounds like it was wonderful!

Janet – I hope the gardening goes well for you; I hope someday to be able to not kill everything I get ahold of

I am dealing with another cold! This one is more annoying than anything so I just keep doing what I can to minimize the sniffling and such and just go about my business. Today I get to teach Tango and Salsa Rueda in my classes. I’ve been looking forward to the Salsa Rueda all semester! It’ll be interesting to see what the kids think of it.

Hope you all have a wonderful day
    Grace and peace to you
    Jeanette

Karla- glad you came through the bad weather unscathed. wow, am i behind in posts! good luck getting off prednisone. I like to plant flowers. i have some strawberries and blueberries too, but the critters typically get more of those than I do. I’m SO jealous of your plumeria!! our vacation plans are up in the air for this year still, but i’m sure we will visit some family members. I like your jewelry :)

MaryLynn- thanks for the awesome waterfall picture! that is truly amazing. I’m very sorry to hear about your foot pain, and especially about you having to give up your hikes…. i do hope it is VERY short lived!

Patti- My little family watches NCIS too. I can’t call it a date since we include two little girls. I know I shouldn’t let them watch something so violent, but we are all so attached to the characters…. i’m bummed that DiNozzo is leaving :( I hope your back has returned to normal by now. Mine is almost there! I’m glad you got to spend lunchtime with your daughter. sorry, i can’t help you with the egg thing. but i do know how to use chia seeds as an egg substitute, HAHA. I’m so sorry to hear of all your car troubles. the invites you have been working so hard on look PERFECT! your sister’s plot to get your mom to the house for her party is fantastic! I really like the quote you posted last night. i truly need to stop resisting reality.

Jeanette- I hope your sleeping has improved. I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately, but last night I finally got a good night’s rest. whew. I truly respect and admire your attitude towards your daughter’s ex. I wish more people in the world were like you! I hope you enjoy your new fitbit! I don’t have one, but my running watch (garmin) counts steps. it’s kinda fun to see how many steps i take in warehouse clubs, or working in the yard ;) i JUST read your morning post… i’m sorry you have another cold. I’ve been sneezing like crazy but i think it’s from tree pollen

Bert- I like your new jewelry too! I’m not a jewelry person, so I’d never heard of brighton, but now i’ve looked it up and I am considering the “hair” jewelry. my hair is usually in a ponytail. thanks for the pictures of the fancy hotel. it must have felt majestic in there!

Janet- I’m glad your fur baby had a good checkup :) i loved the story of you and your friend bursting out in song…. I studied music a zillion years ago, and I, too, had buddies back then that would spontaneously sing with me. what fun!

Beth- sorry to hear about the roof damage. I hope it can be repaired with relative ease.

Diane- congrats on the Jeep Cherokee :) Thanks so much for sharing about your trip at sea and about what you’ve worked on for the Navy during your career. I bragged to my little girls about it on the way to school this morning, and they both thought that was “cool” :) then i added: AND she knows how to renovate a house! very impressive indeed :)

TT: “i have to prepare in advance for sabotaging thinking” i really need to do this. i don’t have the tools at the ready and then wham, i’m half-way through a bag of chips or bowl of ice cream. grr.

today is another day. and it's sunny and warm here, yay!

A 3 hour lunch with my BFFs. The one with breast cancer has her surgery on Wed. We will be going to the hospital to wait with her husband. Got all the non perishables for the party and did some house cleaning. Now need to bathe the dog and clean her couch so she will be sweet smelling for the party. Have a super headache, so skipped the gym. All that jumping around just doesn't sound like the thing to do. Dealing with some stress and need some quiet reflection to get my head and heart in the right place. I will be in a better place tomorrow after spending time with Mom I am sure.

Hi, all -- Happy Leap Day!

TT: "Just because I'm hungry doesn't necessarily mean I should eat" is the biggie for me (duh).

    MaryLynn, how is the foot?

Jeanette, there are very few pictures of me because I knew how big I was and was ashamed (also am just not photogenic). Posting a picture here was a big step for me, as Karla, Patti, Bert, Diane and Cindy know.

Long night here -- such wind and driven rain that I went outside twice during the night to make sure my trash can and recycling bins hadn't blown over and/or emptied. I was lucky but there was quite a bit of stuff strewn about by the storm. Have been busy today on various things, plus a doc visit -- things are going well.

Going to make it an early night -- sorry no energy for personals but reading all.
