For some reason it seems to have disappeared from my google drive, so had to go back to the spreadsheet link. After that, it seems to work fine... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sRqt4GvOnfbAztyZcNaolQQoCAX5SRCZHabOfAKUZec/edit#gid=2853239950 -
If anyone else is having trouble with the spreadsheet, send me your G-Mail address (ex: username@gmail.com), and I will add you for direct access. Send it to me via MFP mail, which is found under "MY HOME", at the top of the page.0

Ok, so I haven't been tracking my food for a while, other than for challenges when the need arises. I've just been eating to maintain while working on a recomp. I started logging my food for this challenge, and realized I still had my calorie goal at a "cut level" of 1400. I changed it to maintenance on Monday. If I stay under that for 5 days, is that alright? I'm still struggling because of all of the Day of the Dead festivities which actually last for 3 days.0
-
@MzManiak: This is only a 5 day challenge, so as long as you are under today through Sunday night you will meet the challenge requirement.0

Do I have to log my food in MFP for this challenge? I do not track my calories using MFP. I just use paper and pen and throw it away at the end of the day. Wouldn't even remember exactly what I had yesterday but know I was under my goal. Thanks0

OMG @MissionEnforcer you're so cool. Does that say "Amazing Race Fall Fun" in Japanese?? Has this been happening for a while and I'm only now realizing this?3

This is actually day 2, and I have changed the message twice. Thanks for noticing!3

I liked the message yesterday, but clearly today's message is even better
I have to also say I am in awe of @MissionEnforcer's mad "skillz" with the spreadsheet. I'm pretty good, but you have me beat by a long shot...I'm taking notes though, and learning a few tricks from you!4 -
Me too! Our moderators rock!2

It's counted. I have a copy from shortly before I shut the sheet down, and it was fine there. Not sure what happened to it...Thanks for pointing it out.3 -
Two questions on the color chart challenge:
- The list of foods in the provided chart is not a comprehensive list (as you noted), so just verifying that we are able to choose other foods not listed if we know what color on the food color chart they would go on, correct?
- How much of each "food" needs to be consumed to count? I wasn't sure if it was a full serving or not or if cucumber and raisins on a salad for instance would count as 2 colors.

2. It doesn’t have to be a full serving, but more than a few. Let's say at least a handful.
Thanks for asking!5 -
For the food color wheel, are the foods only fruits, vegetables and grains? Or can we count meat and packaged foods (I have a lovely lemon sorbet that would be beautiful in the color palette)?
For foods not on the color chart, do we bin the food by the outer appearance of the food or the inner? They have stuff like watermelon which would have a green rind, but a red portion you eat, but then they say plums are blue (?! -never in my life have I seen a blue plum...red or red-purple skins, sure), but the inside of a plum is typically more of a light yellow/tan. So one gets categorized by the inner flesh, the other is categorized, I'm assuming by the outer skin. A bit confusing to me. And I'm still scratching my head over an orange not being in the orange category.
And are those the only color categories? It has three types of green, but no yellow (only a yellow orange) - I mean, where would I put corn with no yellow or yellow-white category? I'm more of a ROY G BIV girl, and I'm okay with extra colors being between the 7 basic colors of the artist color wheel...but adding variations of white and only for green is a rather unique approach although not very consistent.
Thanks for the help!!1 -
@b3achy, I don't know what @hawkins410 will say, but I went on-line to find out what colour my bosc pear was. I forget exactly what I searched, something like "fruits and vegetables colour wheel". My pear is brownish-gold outside, but considered a white fruit.1

Lol...and that hurts my brain too...I mean white isn't technically a color per se...*bangs head on table*. In physics, white is all the colors, and black is the absence of color. In art, it's reversed, white is the absence of color and black is all the colors. In art, you use white and black to make hues from the seven basic colors. Lol, clearly whoever is coming up with these food 'color wheels' haven't applied their art or their physics training to developing them. *shakes head*; *heavy sigh*0 -
@b3achy ... this didn't match the provided color wheel exactly, but should be fairly easy to determine disabled-world.com/artman/publish/fruits-vegetables.shtml -- I think it goes more by what nutrients they have vs the physical color, but I'm not a nutritional or biology expert, so who knows... maybe @hawkins410 knows...2

All Amazing Racers: The "Beauty of Color!" Challenge is designed to help us all explore HEALTHY options for our meals and snacks. Therefore, it does refer to legumes, fruits, veggies, and grains, but NOT to processed meats or desserts. I would not count a chocolate chip cookie as a food in the "tan/brown" category, nor would I count chocolate chip mint ice cream as being in the "green" category.
@HASWLRS has a great idea: When in doubt, Google.
@rusgolden: Thank you for the excellent link! Here is another:
http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/fruit-and-veggie-color-list
@b3achy: Your sweet corn would be classified as in the "Yellow/Orange" group and your white corn in the "White or Tan/Brown" group.
Below is provided a little more of an extensive list:
If there are any more questions, please feel free to PM me!7 -
Thanks @hawkins410 - it's why I asked...originally you just posted FOOD color, and didn't specify that it was fruit, veggies and grains only. Thanks for the clarification, since I typically eat meat, eggs, cheese, nuts, and other colorful foods that aren't just fruits, veggies or grains.
And yes, @rusgolden, that helps, though some are binned differently than the original chart @hawkins410 published, but I'll just take them both as "guidelines". Poor @MissionEnforcer having to decipher the variety.
FWIW, I'll probably go with the 6 of 7 basic colors and add in white and the combo of complementary colors brown for 8 options total...Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, (Indigo), Violet/Purple, and combo of complementary colors Brown (red + green, orange + blue, yellow + purple), and absence of color White for my "colors", as a very loose definition of "color". YMMV.
And I'll behave and not log my glass of Merlot as a purple, even if it is the juice of grapes, nor my Hard Golden Apple Cider as a Yellow/Gold.1 -
So is edamame brown (because it's a fibrous legume) or is it green (because, well, it's green)? Or is it both?0
