Jean - Most places do have a nurse or assistance do that asking/inputting. At my gastroenterologist they give you a tablet and you input the info. DH also had that experience recently. Hopkins Cardiology seems to think the cardiologist should be doing the asking/inputting. Ridiculous IMHO. I know my cardiologist was convinced that between the computer inputting and the sheer volume of patients she was expected to see, she was no longer practicing good medicine. First she gave up the big corner office and went part-time. Now she's gone. I know it's all an attempt to protect themselves from lawsuits but I don't think it's good medicine either.

I had copies of my most recent bloodwork (I'm on cholesterol meds), the gastroenterologist's preliminary report and this year and last year's CT scans (which clearly showed heart changes). I had to really fight to get her to pay any attention to any of that. When she finally did she wasn't worried about any of it but it shouldn't be that hard. I'd like to sit them down and explain they may well have just made their risk management worse. Except if I croaked and DH sued I guess he'd have no idea what I tried to get her to focus on so maybe from their point of view they haven't made it worse. Maybe I should write it up in an envelope labelled "for the malpractice attorney in the event of my sudden death". LOL!

Maryanne--I believe the cardiologist is short changing you. Why not have a terminal in your home in which you input all the info, and then let them contact you via the terminal or a robot? A malpractice suit? The idea might be good for a Letter to the Editor or the TV news station.

I think a better route would be a meeting with the practice manager or the risk management coordinator. That's more in their wheelhouse, IMO.

Not as far fetched as it sounds. It sounds scarily like the newest fad called "telemedicine"! Robin Cook used it as a killer in a book but it's a real thing. Many of our clients are adding it to their benefits (ignoring the fact that it probably destroys employee's HSA eligibility).

Seriously if I decide I have an issue I'll start asking other doctors for cardiologist recommendations. Hopkins is way too big (and famous) to care about one patient's input. Of course if they send me a survey to fill out......

Maryanne--I love "Cell." Everyone should read that book. I think there is something to be said about dealing with a medical facility that has excellent doctors but isn't in love with being listed in the top ten in the US New Report or whatever. Sometimes, those facilities started out with the patient as the central focus but as they grew and started incorporating technical practices, etc., they lost their focus upon the patient despite claims. Yes, noted doctors may be on staff but has underlings doing the work,

Good morning, everyone! It is a beautiful sunny day. Tomorrow, I have an appointment with the ortho; today is a day of no plans.

Last week, I was so good with watching what I ate and kept it at or slightly below the goal. I also exercised every day and actually got in 10,000 steps one day.

Maryanne--I wanted to see what I could do and how it would affect the knee. Today, I decided to take a rest. A good week? I gained weight but always do that when I start exercising.

    You find the greatest links!!

Came home with a cortisone injection in knee and his blessing to continue walking and exercise but if it starts to hurt, I am to stop and rest. I had already been doing it in separate sessions.

While in the orthopedic's office, I was leafing thru a magazine which had an article on personal assistants. There was a cartoon of a man with his Echo. "Alexa, order me a pizza." Alexa responds, "You are on a diet; I will order you a salad."

Pam--Have you found an exercise yet that can keep you motivated to do it?

Helene--Hope DH's exercises are going well and that you continue to find the educational component useful to you also.

Maryanne--Good luck with your specialists and also the kitties.

Maryanne--Hope you weren't near that tornado that hit in Maryland. I didn't catch the location.

Jean - I didn't hear about a tornado. Not sure where it was. I'm going to take a page from your playbook and have oatmeal for breakfast!

I'm afraid the exercise motivation fairy hasn't stopped by here yet. For now, I'm trying to work on making better food choices, portion control, and drinking more water. I can't really say I'm losing weight yet, but this approach seems to have halted the upward trajectory at least.

That's important too, Pam. The other will come in time. I too saw the stories about the Baltimore tornado and wondered if Maryanne was effected. I had my first eye procedure yesterday. I'd developed a film on both eyes over time. I had cataract surgery 3-4 years ago. About 50% of people get the film. My left eye was really bad so the doctor did the laser treatment treatment removed the film. Before treatment, I couldn't detect the film on the right eye. Now that the left eye is clear, I can see a lack of sharpness in the right eye. It's nowhere as bad or as annoying but I'll have that one done in 2 weeks. The treatment was quick and easy and pain-free.
Jean, I hope the cortisone shot gives you relief. DH's rehab is going well. He's had 3 sessions so far and I've gone to the educational part with him. In addition to sodium, we've had cardiac anatomy and causes of a heart attack. Nurse Debbie showed a video of a man having a heart attack while playing soccer. The video was British. One of the guys had seen the video before in a different session. He was clearly upset abut watching it s Debbie told him he didn't have t stay for it. It must have brought back memories of his own attack. DH's symptoms were very different from those in the film. Debbie stopped it after the man reached a hospital and treatment started. I asked her if he survived because it looked touch and g. She said he did survive. I asked DH if watching it bothered him and he said it didn't. Jason started Dh on some strength training which he can do at home. I have some hand weights he can use. <aybe I'll watch him and do the same moved myself.

I've never tried Halo Top but I'd rather have a smaller serving of the real thing than fake ice cream. I don't eat a lot of ice cream so this sin't my type of product. And DH, who is the ice cream eater in our family, would never go for this product. Dairy dessert seems like a fairer description of what they're selling.

I've never found Halo Top, so I've never tried it. I don't eat that much ice cream but when I do, a serving of the regular ice cream works for me. It doesn't trigger a desire to eat more.

I really had to fight myself to do some exercise this morning, but bit the bullet and got in 22 active minutes as defined by the CDC. My actual goal is 30 minutes 5 times a week for 150 minutes but so far I've exceeded it by gritting my teeth.
