Runners that need some nutritional accountability

Up a couple of pounds but lost half an inch on my waist. Oh well, last week was a weird, bad week. I'm not surprised.3
-
Your weight will probably drop following the inches lost @RunsOnEspresso. At least that is the way it worked for me.
I had what I thought was going to be a pretty bad day. It wasn't great food wise. I wasn't feeling great and I didn't eat much after my run. Nothing sounded good so no lunch and my pre/post run ended up being breakfast and lunch. I did eat a couple of tangerines before agility class and dinner once I got home but my day was mostly all carbs. That should translate to a great run in the morning, right? We'll see...
I baked cookies yesterday (rainy day baking) and they are really really good... hoping to put as many as possible in the freezer and out of my immediate reach. I gave some to our neighbor and took some to agility class tonight. Everyone loved them and now we are going to have a 'cookie exchange' in a few weeks so I need to come up with a new recipe. Or maybe I just take some of the ones from the freezer 🤣1 -
Last week I kind of fell off the wagon but I ran to catch back up with it yesterday! I recorded my food. No workout but tonight I'll take the dog and do weights.1
-
I didn't fall off the wagon; I did a header right off of it tonight! Ben and Jerry's and Pringles for dinner. Oh well, we all "need" moment. I had a wicked bout of ibs yesterday and justified needing to put stuff back in for intestinal health. I kinda started a period today too.
Tomorrow I'll make a soup.1 -
@Elise4270 - we definitely need those days. What a funny dinner! I know what you mean that sometimes you need certain foods for your intestinal health. I need chocolate if I've had intestinal issues. It really helps!
@shanaber - you started a cookie exchange! LOL! What type did you make?
@RunsOnEspresso - Weights is a workout! Love the pic with the smiling dog in the background!
My weight has been holding steady at 2 pounds above where I want. That's okay for now, but I realize I am eating a lot of calories - probably about 2100 a day. I don't normally record dinner, just b and l. However, the calories in those two meals has gone up as I have added in various healthy foods!
I've run for several days in a row, but always 4 miles or less. I seem to be getting slower, so tomorrow will be an only-weights day and then Friday a total rest day. I did a double workout yesterday (run in AM and lift after work).
I got a coupon in the mail for Healthy Fresh so decided to try it for a few weeks. (Though next week I'm traveling so not then!) This week I got 3 meals and so far they are pretty good. It's fun to have a little variety! I had sweet potato fajitas last night and some type of risotto meal the night prior. Tonight is a pasta meal. I ordered the serving for two which whenever I am cooking it I think, this is not enough! But it turns out it is fine. These portions make me realize how I cook TOO much when left to my own! All those years of having two huge athletes in the house got me doubling or tripling recipes because they ate a lot. I still tend to cook too much, freeze the left overs, and then toss the leftovers when they get freezer burn.1 -
I bought this oil of olay body wash that smelles nice but it smells unappealing on me. It reminds me of some cheep Avon perfume my mother gave me when I was 9 or 10. Maybe the trick is to buy something that smells unappealing and it magically smells amazing. There's this occasional scent I get that I just love and can never figure out what it is or where it's coming from. Wish I could find it and buy it.
Food
Did not so great today. Soup then ate triscuts and squirt cheese. Oh and Noosa.
Complaints
Shoulder. Poo poo still. So I made another appointment in a few weeks.
Hip. No improvement
Brain. Absent
Beary
Found a."friend" outside and won't come in at the moment. He's being territorial and trying to figure out this cats story. Guess that fine. DH won't let him sleep with us anymore. I sleep, he plays. Win win. I got beanie who sleeps on my pillow, best purr ever. She is on a diet. We're 10 days in and I don't think it's working. It impossible to keep the food separate. One dumb cat is underweight and I can't have him eating Rx diet food. So I'm sure she's eating his food when it's unattended. (Long day alone- cats my life).
Beanie and dum dum2 -
@ddmom0811 - We haven't had the cookie exchange yet. It will be in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure yet what cookies I am going to make...
@Elise4270 - cats are your life and they are so sweet. Is Beary neutered?
I have often wondered how people with multiple cats on different diets manage it. It isn't like a dog where you put their food down and they eat it all. I wish there was an easy solution to make all your hurts get fixed.
I took Hilde to her doctor appointment today. It was supposed to be a short visit and I rushed off without eating. The visit ended up being longer than expected and then the van to take us home wasn't't available. I didn't get home until after 1pm. I ate some left over flatbread pizza then we went on an unproductive search for a new vacuum. Apparently stores no longer carry them in stock other than the stick kind (not what I want). We ended up getting El Pollo for dinner, which isn't unhealthy but it is if you include chips and guac. Even the guac isn't too bad but the chips!! Under my calorie goal but way over on fat. What a mess of a day!
Tomorrow will be a better day!1 -
@shanaber oof sounds like a long day. We have a good vacuum (so far) from Walmart, I think it’s a eureka. We have bare floors and an area rug, works great.
Bear is neutered. He wasn’t fighting just chasing this poor cat that wanted to come in and eat. I put bears food outside today since he wouldn’t eat it inside. If he thinks someone else is gonna get it, he’ll eat it, and he’s eating too much low calorie food. He’d come get me , lead me to “come see mama”, do the cat sprawl, “I’m awesome, I’m a cat” and get me to dote on him. I leave the house/garage door open sometimes so my cats can go in/out through the pet door in the garage window, weather permitting. A few cats find their way in and sneak food.
I really think he wanted to make friends and play but the cat would get scared of me and run, he’d chase. He’s sweet so far, just loves everyone. Except the dogs, but he’s learned to sort of play with one of them. He’s a little naive, I’m hoping we don’t have more snake issues this spring. Dh and I briefly talked about getting him a buddy. I’m not sure that’s gonna happen. My baby cat still won’t come in and stays in the shed. When bear smells her on me, he get won’t get off of me. So, I don’t think he’d really like me to have another cat. If I can get this 17lb cat to 14 perhaps she’ll play more with him. He’s rowdy though, she just wants to chase strings. He wants to wrestle.
Food today?
Coffee
I have clinical today, then appt for blood work for the hormone pellets. I am hoping it’ll help my focus. I poopooed my last test with a 79.2. I had Red Bull, coffee and pseudoephedrine. I knew it, just missed so many for lack of focus. So thats my lunch hour.
I anticipate no lunch. Which is fine since I’m over the past 2 days.
Soup for dinner.1 -
@Elise4270 Sorry about your health issues not improving. Your cats are adorable. Hope you have a better day today.0
-
@elise4270 - such cute fur babies. Sorry about the test but hopefully you just move on and don't fret on it.
And I hope the hip and shoulder improve, of course!
@shanaber - Oh, I thought you did bring some cookies to your agility class and the cookie exchange was in the future. Cookies are my favorite dessert.
I was really tired last night, so intentionally set alarm to not exercise this morning. Still means a 5:40 alarm. Sigh.
Moving rest day to tomorrow.
Nothing at home for dinner tonight ... so picking up or going out.
I leave on Wed for Portland, OR (assuming my conference isn't cancelled!) I heard from one friend in MN, that her principal cancelled her trip because of the virus.
1 -
@elise4270 - it always frustrated me so to not do well on a test when I knew the material. I know you'll do better on the next one!
@ddmom0811 - Ha! I did take cookies to class - I had made oatmeal everything cookies (you add in whatever you like or have on hand). I added chocolate chips, cranberries and walnuts. Also just vanilla and no cinnamon cause I really don't like cinnamon and chocolate together. I wanted to add coconut and thought I had some but nope. The exchange will be towards the end of the month. There are a lot of National agility trials that our trainer and some in the class are going to so have to wait for all of that to be over with.
Food is better today, have strength training tonight so dinner will be whatever dh decides to put in the oven.
I heard the best thing for travel is to still go but if anyone around you is coughing ask the flight attendants to make sure that passenger has a mask. Then they can't distribute the germs whether it is a cold, the flu or Covid-19. I would also carry wipes - I do generally anyway but especially now.1 -
@quilteryoyo you're doing fabulous on the weight loss!
@Elise4270 "squirt cheese"....eww! Though sometimes I do find it oddly satisfying. Kind of like Spam. I hate the stuff, but every once in a while it hit's the spot. We call it "Spray cheese" but I think I like squirt better. And American cheese in individual wrappers, we call that "plastic cheese". And pre-slice lunch meat we call "skinny meat". We're weird that way I guess. Sorry to hear about the test.
@shanaber when you mention El Pollo it makes me think of my favorite fast food chicken place, Pollo Campero. have any of you been to one? Amazing!
Speaking of chicken, Chick-Fil-A in Minnesota is having a promotion where you get a free chicken sandwich the day after the Minnesota Wild NHL hockey team places a home game. I only found out about it a few weeks ago and I've already had 8 free sandwiches. MMMMmmmmMMMM2 -
In a hurry this morning so a Jimmy Dead turkey sausage, cheese and egg on English muffin in the microwave. Not great, but only 260 calories. Plus 130 calories for the Aussie Bite from Costco.
Lunch was hummus & carrots, 2 hard boiled eggs, a small apple and two Kirkland Nut Bars. A little too much, but work is stressing me out and the food helps temper the stomach acid. A couple months ago I had to quit keeping peanut butter at work because I was so swamped I was going through it too fast.
Like a broken record, I can do fine at breakfast and lunch but fall apart at home in the evening. Will keep working at it though.1 -
@7lenny7 haha! Processed food names! I got the cheese as a joke, DH lingers in the store and I just start putting stuff in the cart and he realizes, it's time to go (so I'll stop). Then the cheese was a cat treat/test to see if he was really hungry or just yankin' you around. Now I eat it cuz I just wanna lay on the couch and watch Netflix with triscuts, which are awful now.
Well, I guess I learned my lesson. Quit putting everything on endcaps in the cart when I'm ready to go, even if I've said I wanna leave 1,682 times already.
Dinner
Squirt cheese and triscuts
Noosa
DH brought me a frozen yogurt that tasted horrible. I ate it anyway cuz the spoon turned colors in the cold. (Simpleton).
Here's to tomorrow1 -

I am totally stealing this tactic!!

The grocery store tactics had me rolling! Make me sad my dh won't go with me grocery shopping. Actually no it really is better he doesn't, but still could be fun! 🤣🤣🤣2

You get chick fil a? For the Coyotes we get Dicky's BBQ sandwich with purchase of a side if they win. I'd rather have chic fil a. We get $4 cheeseburger at a local chain if they score 4 goals. 3 free tacos from Taco Bell with drink purchase if they get a goal in the 3rd. And $25 off The Keg if they score in the 2nd. You used to get cheap medium Duncan coffee on game days. Not sure if they still have that promo (pretty sure that was NHL wide promo).1 -
I put peeps creamer in the cart last weekend. Other half didn't even notice until he disgustingly pointed it out in the display. I was like, too late.2
-
I have resisted food so far today... Waiting on a hair cut and contemplating taco casa after. It's really not something I should have... And I have everything to make chili so I'd eat tacos and chili then fuss about over doing it.
Imma hang tough and just have the chili. I think I have near nothing to do for classes. So, I could go gimp around the park. Be lovely with tacos in hand though.
I think they are building a schlotzsky's here. All bets off if/when that happens.2 -
So far food was good today....for me. I had my normal egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast, a Taco Bell Chicken burrito for lunch (I know. Not the best, but not bad for fast food.), and a bowl of Kashi Go Lean berry crunch cereal with strawberries for dinner. I'll probably have a snack later - maybe nuts or cheese.1
-
I had a big burger with bacon and guacamole and sweet potato fries for dinner... not the best choice but so tasty and good. Sometimes you just have to go with tasty I think!
We are supposed to get rain tomorrow afternoon, Sunday and then really really heavy rain Monday - Thursday. Tomorrow is a dog beach Vizsla meetup. Hobbes will be so excited and I will just run around with him on the beach. Hopefully Sunday morning I can get out for a good run before it gets too messy.2 -
I agree @shanaber . Sometimes taste wins out and that's okay.
I was a tad bit disappointed this morning. Other than Wednesday, I made really good food choices this week. I was expecting a drop on the scale, but instead I was up...only 0.2 pounds, but still up. I know that is really nothing, but I was so sure I'd be down and at my lowest in years today, that I was disappointed. I'll get over it, but it is weeks like this that tend to throw me off of the wagon. I'm going to put my seat belt on today so I don't get bumped off. LOL1 -
There is a world running cup you can join for the US if you want: https://runningworldcup.com/?ref=rzkxmo

Posted that last one and had to rush away! I don't know much about it, other than RunEatRepeat, whom I follow on Instagram posted something about it and so I joined for free.
I had an awful bike ride today. The usual 44 miles, but it was cold, windy and just miserable. At least it's done. That's about as much as I can say about it.
We leave Wednesday for Portland, my conference is still on, as of yesterday. I am sort of on a day-by-day evaluation of it. If my daughter didn't also live there, I probably would bail on it.
I have a trip to see my mom Easter weekend (DC area). Then we have a trip to Amsterdam last week of April (a trip DH earned from his work). I feel like everything is up in the air at the moment. I don't necessarily worry about me catching virus, but DH's mom and BF live here and we get them food each weekend.
Tomorrow get to see granddaughter and excited for that. She's 16 months and I love toddlers! So fun, before they can talk back, lol.
I started taking Athletic Greens - only for about a week. I think I have more energy -- but it could be the placebo effect. One thing it doesn't mention but which seems to be happening for me is that I am not as hungry. I find I go all morning and don't need a snack before lunch. It's a little expensive though - around $90 a month. I did it with a promo code so got a free 20 package travel packet (promo code RichRoll), though I don't enjoy his podcast, that's where I heard it.2 -
@ddmom0811 I hate it when plans are up in the air. From what I have heard, washing your hands and trying not to touch your nose and mouth are the best defense against the virus. I work at daycare, as you might recall. I love the toddler stage too. But, I think my favorite age is about 2, when they are just learning to talk and express themselves well. They can come out with the funniest things.0

I'm at the store again. Said let's go 99 times. Atkins end cap? Or centrum?
Ugh Atkins has soy.... Lord... I hate shopping and my back hurts... There's nothing good over here in the pharmacy section.
I spy a NyQuil end cap... Put me out of my misery
I think I'm gonna have to go the turrets route... I've said fried chicken 14 times.1 -
Added 3 things... Oh let's go! Whooo another trip of excess and no squirt cheese
I think next time I go, I'm gonna talk about my trip to China.3 -
