@shanaber - oh no flash floods! Yikes.
@Avidkeo - hope there is no storm.

Food day okay so far, at almost 8pm. But 9pm before bed has been a little dangerous of late! I feel so anxious whenever I get the slightest cough or dry throat! It's ridiculous.
Nice 4 mile run this morning and then a busy day online all day.

Not ridiculous. Totally understandable. Was actually having that conversation with on of the ED doctors recently and she was the same. Every time we sneeze, cough, clear my throat I worry lol. So normal

@avidkeo - thanks for the reassurance. Orlando doesn’t actually have that many cases so I shouldn’t panic, especially since DH and I have been so careful.

Made it to bedtime without snacking. Run in the morning - probably just 2-3 miles and hopefully do some lifting in the afternoon.

Today I decided to add a few pushups and crunches when I passed by my little gym on the way to the room where I’m working. It felt good to add that little bit of movement!

    Hey guys.

It's the end of day 3 for me, and so far really good!

Getting rid of all the junk food was definitely the right option, having it there, even if it was out of sight, just didn't work for me at all. Bored + stressed =eating a lot.

Now I've just got to tone down my coffee habit...

@ddmom0811 I agree. It's not ridiculous. I'm the same way. I have seasonal allergies and had a flare up yesterday with lots of sneezing. Looked it up to make sure sneezing wasn't one of the signs of CoVID-19. Unfortunately, I also wake up with a sore throat from the drainage, so have a bit of anxiety until it starts feeling better. I shouldn't panic either, as I have been really careful and haven't been around many people for the last 3 weeks. It's just scary.

Great job with the sticking to the food plans @Avidkeo and @ddmom0811 . I'm not really eating junk food, since I don't have any in the house, but do tend to snack too much at night - almonds and cheese are my go to. I need to work on that.

@quilteryoyo - same with the sore throat. What I want to know is what kind of sore throat is it? Is it the post nasal drip kind, the burning kind, the tight throat kind? I feel like I've had all of those over these weeks! There really aren't that many cases right around here, and I've been careful, but you just never know.

Sometimes I have a passing thought of "eat whatever the hell you want, who cares?!" Then I think, no, I'm in this healthy life for the long term.

Been listening to a book by Joan Lunden, Why did I come into This Room?. It's pretty good -it is about aging and what people go through. A lot of it is what we already know as the healthy people we are. But I have learned a few things. There is a good section on drinking water that will motivate you to drink more and explains why it. is so good for us. A lot about exercise, not eating as much sugar (I tend to ignore that section in all books I read).

I did a 2.25 mile run, 20 mins with Peloton App and my favorite instructor, Robin. She was on GMA yesterday!
Usual breakfast and lunch planned for today. I think I may need to eat more at lunch so I'm not so hungry (bored eating) after dinner.

I hadn't thought about "different" kinds of sore throat. Is there a particular one that is indicative of THE virus? Mine's kind of a tight throat, but am sure it's from the nasal drip. Hahaha about ignoring the advice to cut out sugar. There is new research that says the recommended amount of water to drink is BS and we should just drink when thirsty. I don't agree with this, but it is out there as scientific research.

@avidkeo - you are doing so great!

I wake up every morning with a cough. I know it is not CV but I still worry as well. Same when dh coughs and sneezes (he has allergies/asthma). I figured out that we have been no where other the the grocery store and drive thru (pickup) restaurant, for almost a month now. I think getting out for a run/walk is the only thing keeping me sane. I did have a wonderful lunch with my friends yesterday over WebEx. It was so nice actually seeing them and talking and laughing. Brought a bit of normalcy to the day even if we couldn't be all in the same place together. I had a huge salad with chicken and it was so good but now we are almost out of lettuce. I am hoping there is enough for a salad tonight with lasagna for dinner. It doesn't look like my grocery store has any lettuce available for delivery except iceberg. Oh and no delivery until next week.

I don't track my sugar intake. I just try to stay away from too much processed foods with sugar, amazing the things it is added into!
I think the issue with the water amounts are that some people look at it as a hard and fast - as long as I get in my 8 glasses I am fine. But it really depends on how healthy you are, how active you are and where you live. I think weather and what you are doing in it makes a huge difference. The 8x8 'rule' is easy for most to remember but they don't think of it as a base and that they might need to adjust it to fit their needs.

@ddmom0811 - I am going to have to find that GMA online and watch it!

I did pretty much nothing active yesterday... So broke my streak and goal of doing something every day. I did make dh a couple of masks and will make mine later today, after I run and get a strength session in.

@Elise4270 - everything going ok with you? I know you had some exams this week and Alex is back now with his dad? I can't imagine DFW empty. I have never been there when it wasn't packed and the road leaving wasn't packed with cars stopping to pay at the toll booth.

We had record rain here most of yesterday into this morning. One of the good things is there are so few cars on the road there were no accidents, I don't think there were even any minor ones and no cars getting stuck in the flooded roads! Also they have been moving the homeless into shelters/hotels so there were no drownings or people swept away in the rivers Yes, unfortunately that is a thing here. People camp in the cement channels along the rivers when the water levels are low and then don't realize how dangerous it is when it rains so hard.

@shanaber We have homeless that live in the dry riverbed. Apparently they are usually warned when they are going to flood it but they didn't the last time and a bunch lost their stuff (luckily no lives).

I ate a lot yesterday and didn't work out. Stress. I had to go into the office to meet with two new hires. That part was fine but once I got home and had to deal with miscommunication issues with one of them I was spent. And today I'm dealing with payroll stress.

I feel off because I haven't been sleeping well again. UGH

Congrats to those of you finding ways to stick to your eating plans....I am finding it difficult with the "kids" home. My son especially needs to eat pretty much constantly - he is 6'5" ex college football player and while he has slimmed down a ton since 2018, he still works out a lot and is always hungry. And I am not letting him in my kitchen until I am positive he is not shedding virus so I am making his meals. And it's stress eating.

@shanaber My brother (Disney Fox guy) lives in Hacienda Heights and commutes to various locations and he said that when LA went to shelter in place, he noticed a total lack of homeless camps in the usual places. He was wondering what the deal was. This was before big rains, probably 3 weeks ago.

@ddmom0811 I'll need to check this book out. I need more water and sugar is my nemesis and everything I have read is that it is worth cutting back on. I listened to a book called "Lifespan" by Dr. David Sinclair - An Australian geneticist. He does a lot of research on aging at the cellular level. Lots of science talk but really interesting.

@RunsOnEspresso The sleep thing is so hard. So many things screw up my sleep. I started sleeping with an eye mask to see if light was an issue. That helped a bit. Also, I need the fan on all the time. Now my old dog needs to go out at 4 am everyday....do dogs get small bladders as they age?

I have been pretty consistent on exercise - doing a few Peloton rides daily. Today I tried a stretching class and a core class at the end. They were challenging.

Dinner last night - Salmon and green beans. A new fav recipe. Tonight...some sort of salad with chicken.

    Morning guys.

Ah the symptoms thing is definitely frustrating. We were all talking about it again at work yesterday and think it's a matter of time until they test all the staff...

I was good last night, stuck to plan. Got cravings around 8pm but because 1: i actually always stop eating at 8pm because I can't sleep with a full stomach, and 2: I don't have anything to snack on anyway, I was able to avoid temptation until I went to sleep. I was so tired and thought I would crash at 8:30 but I just laid there for a while. Brain wouldn't stop thinking about all sorts of random crap.

It didn't help that my anxiety flared last night. Hubby bought my dinner down, and he had made my absolute favourite meal. When he gave it to me he said ill come back later for a talk. Well that triggered my anxiety. Why does he want to talk? Does he want to leave me? Is this his way of seeing what life is like with out me? Is that why he made my favourite meal, to do something nice first? Yeah anxiety sux.

I managed to talk myself down, and reminded me that his 'love language "is acts of service, so he doesn't tell me he loves me, but he does things like make my favourite meal, or hang special art in our bedroom for our anniversary, that sort of thing.when he came back I was like, what did you want to talk about. He was like, oh I just wanted to know how your day was.

    Anxiety SUX!

@Avidkeo Sounds like my brain. I always go to the worst case immediately. Like if my supervisor or director says can you come to my office I immediately start going "did I do something?" "Am I getting fired?" And it's always just a we want your expertise on this situation lol

@shanaber. Still alive. Almost caught up for this week and can start it all over again. 3 tests next week. The extended spring break was not a good idea academically. I'm doing so much, I don't think I'm learning a darn thing, just trying to keep my head above water. I've resigned to a B in this particular class, I need a 93 on the remaining exams since I poopooed an 80 on the last one. No idea yet todays exam. Hope 93 or better, but eh. We'll see.

Enrolled today. Violin and nursing classes. Won't get assigned my lab clinicals until I pass this semester.

I need a walk. I'm so stiff and hurt. I have appointment tomorrow for the shoulder with the local bone and joint clinic. I'm not hopeful that I'll avoid surgery since it's so bad and still getting worse. Hip is angry. But that's normal.

    Food.
Been so busy eating as a necessity. 1300 calories today. Not horrible. We got a new 300$ rug for the living room, so I won't let DH eat on the couch and drag food in all over it. Other one was stinky. Water cooler had leaked and gotten it soaked least 3 times. House smells better, gah, wow had no idea the funk was the rug.
    Ate
    Fried chicken- KFC from yesterday
    Pizza ( cauliflower)
    An abandoned schlotzsky's sandwich 1/2.
And 2 diet caffeine free cokes
    Coffee too.

    Stay well.

ETA making myself eat at the table is a great way to curb the snacks. I did eat 3 oranges on the couch... But DH and I were watching the latest episode of Better Call Saul. TV snack addiction identified. I kept thinking about chips and bean dip.

Studies have actually shown the people who are "naturally thin" or basically those who seem to be at an ideal weight without trying do this as part of their normal routine. They don't snack in front of the TV or when doing mindless activities, they make their snacks purposeful and always eat at the dinner table, or designed space.

Also they have naturally regulate their intake! Overindulgence one day and eat lighter the next few days to make up for it. Its all subconscious.

And apparently we can train ourselves to do it too, it just takes a while. Sigh.

And on the subject of snacks. I've been so hungry today. All day. Even immediately after eating. Ita 730pm and all I want is food. But I've been good, I fit a small snack of grilled cheese on pita bread with a coffee into my calorie goal. So I finished today with 5 calories remaining.

Very happy with that! Hopefully this hunger subsides tomorrow!

@Elise4270 Did I miss something? Did you injure your shoulder somehow? Hope all goes well with the appointment. Sounds like you did great with your eating yesterday.

@Avidkeo Great job with your food too. I know that part of my problem with eating is knowing when to stop. Growing up, we were a family of "finish what's on your plate." We were poor and didn't want to "waste" anything, but I think that mind set has stuck and it is really hard for me to recognize the cues my body gives me that I am full. I'm working on that.

@quilteryoyo My shoulder was a bit cranky last October and just got worse. By January it was at the "see someone" level. Today it's so bad, it's hard to even sleep. It only hurts when I use it or put in certain positions, and even texting. Or anything.

@Avidkeo I have x-rays for you later of the bone spur on the acromion process.

    Eta x-ray

    Sitting waiting on doc.

Oh scale was down a pound today so I put on real clothes for the doc, not lazy pants. Still snug, but maybe that'll remind me to not eat. Oof. Doc scale is +4 from home...

Doc diagnosis. Frozen shoulder. Another steroid shot. He made me cry.

    Shoulder con't.
Said it should get better over the course of a year. Follow up in 6 weeks. Sending me to pt too. Result of genetics and or an injury.
    So happy it's not surgical.

    Now lunch!

Hugs on the shoulder @elise4270. I injured mine in a car accident 2 years ago - very small labral tear. It took over 18 months to heal. Occasionally it will niggle but its mostly OK now. I hope it gets back to normal fast for you!

Day off today so I'm going to venture to the supermarket soon. Then planning on a long walk, and gonna take the kids for a bike ride as well. Hopefully the weather holds!

So glad the doc didn't think it requires surgery @Elise4270! I also had a frozen shoulder years ago. I think a fall might have started it but I really don't recall. It was a while ago. My doc also said no surgery. The PT took a while to really see results but I kept up with the exercises and little by little it got better. At the time I saw him I could not raise my arm out straight from my side more than about 45 degrees. I couldn't raise my arm up to put on a shirt, comb my hair or even reach into the dryer to get the clothes out (tried that without thinking and about died!). I can do everything now and rarely have an issue. Mostly it hurts if I sleep on it wrong. I still sleep with a pillow under my shoulder in front (if I am on my side or stomach). If it starts to flare up again I get out my bands and go back to my exercises.

The doc asked a few times about an injury. I couldn’t think of any. I might have fallen at some point. Maybe surgery last September they did something, seems it began after that.... or crutches. I don’t know what I did. I feel ya. I get laundry out with left, affected arm, can’t dress, or undress and it is hard to sleep on. It just kills. I never imagined it could hurt so bad. I rated it 10/10 today. Think that’s a first. Even throwing up from ovary pain I didn’t rate a 10 and I couldn’t move for most of 3 days. He said I could have torn something but he couldn’t check because the shoulder won’t go, and no mri due to covid. I’ve been a horrible grump, stress, school, and the pandemic... I’m a terrible person. I hoped I’d see any of my old coworkers out just to have the experience of flippin’the bird.. been short with dh too. Dude. No more covid plots. I am done, I don’t care if it’s a plot. Does it change my life? No.

Steroid lidocaine and I’m trying to move it as much as I can. Said he’d do 3-4 shots for me. Google/mayo sites up tp 3 years. I hope not. I’m clearly in stage I of this.

Day 5 of Lockdown plan done! Stuck to calories for the day! I'm feeling great.

I managed a sneaky weigh in this morning, and down to 65.5kg. Given I had only had 4 days since my massive binge, that was expected, but still disappointing.

Still no new cases in our province! So that's 7 days. Spoke again with hubby and agreed that after Easter, I'll be back to normal.

It feels like we have turned a corner. As a country we only had 29 positive cases! That's a huge drop. I think in a few days we will be in a situation of only 1 or 2 cases a day, and only from those coming in from overseas. This gives me hope that life may go back to some normal sooner than later. Being an island nation we are basically planning on keeping our borders closed I think until covid is over, or there is a vaccine. Which is a bit scary but also kinda cool at the same time.

@shanaber Our PT is open. I dropped by after the appointment and they have cut back to 3 days a week. Mon, Tues, and Thurs, the same days I have class. But she is 15 minutes from me so I think I can work it in. Incentive to get as much done fri, sat sun as I can.

    waah waah.
The shoulder is still better this morning. It aches and that sudden clinching pain that comes with the wrong movement lingers only half the time it had prior to the shot. Which is fabulous that the relief yesterday wasn't only the lidocane and the steroid was well placed, in the joint capsule. I'm encouraged. I did make a point to move it all i could yesterday, so today kinda burns. Doc assured me pain is isn't damaging anything and it's fine to push to tolerated pain. Yet feel so whiny still. Dh just says suck it up. and when he called me yesterday after the appointment, not to check on me obviously and cut me off, I sulled up over it. Then bugged you gals over it. I told DH i feel like the next ailment is a brain tumor. cant run walk- hips, can't bike, swim, violin 4th positions and shifts hard-shoulder, and sleep is still ever so elusive. I'm just whiny. I hope its PMS/hormones.
Maybe its karma. Maybe I'm a version of Earl Hickey, physical pain to elicit personal growth. I think I must have been a terrible person in my past existences, and a glutton since I have food intolerances. I hope I wasn't hitler. I'd never repay that mess, that poor soul, if he has one, is never leaving this plane. So a blanket apology to all the souls in my past past lives for being a kitten.

ETA to end on a positive note. Had to help DD with maths.
Despite my frustrations, I am lucky to have access to care. That alone should offer me solace. My circumstance could be so much worse and without hope.

    Food today.
    no plans.
    coffee and...?

Yesterday I over ate a bit. I gave in to cheerios with hot chocolate mix in the almond milk x2 large bowls. Oh and chips and cheese dip and then bean dip and more cheese, til the chips were gone. yes. all on the couch

@Elise4270....wow! So sorry that the shoulder is so painful. I had to google that process thing. And Earl Hickey. Pain can totally screw with everything. And to have to deal with it while doing school....you are a rockstar. I wonder if PT could give you some basic stuff to do on the off days.

@avidkeo that is fantastic news! I really like your PM. Can we borrow her for a few months? The US wants to reopen for business on May 1st. Meanwhile, NPR reports that they are shutting down some federally funded drive through testing sites. I just don't understand.

@shanaber I do the same thing with a pillow. My shoulder is hurting and side raises, even with really light weights is pretty impossible. I did something in yoga with the dang chaturanga. I have never had strong shoulders.

Exciting day today. Going to walk to the mailbox to mail a bill for work. Do a strength workout. Maybe a short ride but I am probably overdoing it on the bike. Do some bank recs. Maybe attempt to bake some bread (or a hockey puck depending on how bad I am at baking bread). Then it will be happy hour. Ground hog day......again and again and again.....

@bearly63 Earl Hickey? what? I loved that show so much I re-watched it all last year. Yes, the pt plans are to go get at home exercises and a pulley rope to use for the arm. For now I've been doing air pullies.

@Avidkeo I'm glad to hear you are on the downhill side of this. I looked at our numbers, and the John Hopkins site was change around and I cant find the info in the same simple format...(don't tell DH, because its part of a conspiracy and I am so over his conspiracy craap.) any way, I'm hoping the US is following the world trend of flattening.

ok, no more stalling... assignments, classes and a paper to half-donkey, cuz i just want this semester to be done...

I seem to have a good day then bad. Repeat.

On a side note I've turned my dog into a Noosa monster. I let her lick the top when I peel it off and the container when I'm done. She knows the sound of the spoon scraping and expects it now. She's too smart.

I have done 'ok' the last few days... I seem to eat next to nothing and then do better the next day. Lately it has been all about the carbs and not nearly enough protein. I think it is also that I didn't run or do much other than around the house for 3 days. One of those was lots of cleaning but otherwise, meh - not really... We have been eating food out of the freezer for dinner though rather than even going for restaurant pick up. Last night was Trader Ming's Chinese which I really like. My run yesterday was great - I am sure from all the carbs I have been eating even if I barely hit 1000 calories on Tuesday.
I have no lettuce left and no avocado. Not sure which one I miss more. Also no tuna and Costco is out of stock (online). Still can't get a delivery scheduled from any grocery.
No run today - raining again but this should be the end of it. Just this month alone we have gone from drought conditions back to our average rainfall and there is a huge amount of snow in the mountains. Has to be killing all the snow sport enthusiasts (and the operators) who can't go and enjoy it!

I saw this on CNN about baking and why it is good for us during this time. I think I will bake some brownies today. And I have a lot of instant yeast in the freezer so I may make some bread too. I did bake garlic/herbed biscuits to go with our lasagna the other night.

@bearly63 - I don't understand the approach (or lack of a cohesive approach) to the pandemic by the federal government. I am just glad I live in CA where we have a governor who took strong early action and our numbers reflect it. Also that he took the lead to find equipment and get it (mostly from CA companies) and has enough to work with other states to provide to them and also lend them our ventilators.

@RunsOnEspresso - Hobbes gets plain Greek yogurt pretty much every day and has since he was a puppy. It is a good probiotic for them. He loves it too and runs to the kitchen when I get it out of the fridge.

@elise4270 - I don't like the changes to the Johns Hopkins CV site either. I did discover though if you click on the US and then use the arrows at the bottom that you can see the data by state and then also by county. But none of the nice graphs any longer. I also use this site which seems to be updated a bit more frequently.
Until you get the rope pulley you might try using a towel, like a hand or dish towel. I held it by diagonal corners and it was close enough to the right length for me.
