On a side note I've turned my dog into a Noosa monster. I let her lick the top when I peel it off and the container when I'm done. She knows the sound of the spoon scraping and expects it now. She's too smart.
We tried for so long to get this cat to eat yogurt, he was wormy and trying to heal his poor little baby gut. A year later, he eats noosa blueberry IF there's plenty of berry... Beary. figures. bear like berry. goober likes peanuts. beanie likes french fries... guess who's on a diet?
@shanaber good idea. I'll youtube it, cuz I can't picture it, I though about blowing off pt because I'm manageable now. next week I'll be crying again. so... I'll make that call now.2 -
@avidkeo that is fantastic news! I really like your PM. Can we borrow her for a few months? The US wants to reopen for business on May 1st. Meanwhile, NPR reports that they are shutting down some federally funded drive through testing sites. I just don't understand.
I think she's on back order! Australia called first dibs lol.
Had a good day so far. Was too busy at work to eat more than I had already made anyway so that helps. Dinner is only 20 mins away and I'm starving. I have a heap of calories left as I did an 8k run this morning, but waiting till after dinner before I chow down. I get dessert today!2 -
@shanaber Gavin Newsom is killing it....literally and figuratively. Meanwhile, in other states, the "leaders" are killing us. I really hope that 5 years from now, we have a whole new coordinated, cohesive, country-wide and international approach to pandemics, supply chains for PPE, equipment, drugs, etc. If we don't we are just plain dumb IMHO.
I need to try the yogurt thing with picky pup. She has really sensitive stomach borderline IBS. I just can't bring myself to full on expensive diagnostic tests. I feed her really good food but now she pretty much just picks out the meat and leaves the kibble/other. She eats better than we do.
As for baking, yesterday I decided to find a recipe to use up a bunch of apples. Wow...score! The Pinch of Yum blog recipe for Cinnamon Sugar Apple Cake. So good, so easy, you probably have the ingredients. I might try it next time by changing the oil out for apple sauce...or half and half. Good for breakfast or any time of day during a quarantine.

Today, work, exercise (did a Peloton Yoga class....I am out of yoga shape for sure) and will do a ride. Making chicken tortilla soup in the crock pot. Lunch has to involve protein and veggies.

I made a new recipe, Superfoods Soup, from the cookbook Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow. It was a lot better than I expected as it has several ingredients I never use. The ingredients are: olive oil, carrots, celery, onion, curry, sea salt, sweet potato, unsweetened coconut milk, diced tomatoes, garbanzo beans, kale, and lime juice. I had some rotisserie chicken that I heated up and put in the bottom of the bowl that I had tonight. Really pretty good and only 276 calories, with the 2 oz of chicken!3
-
The baking sounds like a good idea to me!
I had a sore left glute for a couple days so did low running miles. Today we wanted to ride but it was rainy in the morning, so I went in TM for a couple miles, then lifted, just upper body. Then, it looked nice to ride! Oops! So we went on a trial and it was empty! We bought pizza on the way home, yucky Pizza Hut but we were both starving. Dropped two off at MILs and then came home to eat. I had wine with it and took a hot bath afterwards. I don’t recommend that, FYi. I felt like I was going to pass out in the shower when I washed my hair. But I’m fine!
I’ve been Ok on eating but still too much sugar after my healthy lunch and dinner!
Day 20 of run streak! I’m nervous the Florida governor is going to send us back to school too soon. May 1 is our last day home. Doesn’t make sense to me to risk it. He says it doesn’t affect kids much and no child has died. Yes they have. And what about the teachers!!?? We are no spring chickens.5 -
Yah, the logic on the kids going back is certainly flawed.
Pretty sure we've talked about this before but what is something quick and light I can eat at 5am before a run? I really need to try running in the mornings before work but I struggle with eating so early. Doesn't have to be a full breakfast as I'll probably have coffee and yogurt or oatmeal after.0 -
WHOO! Shoulder shot has officially kicked in! The constant ache is gone (better), I have better ROM and can feel how angry my leg/hip are again!
Food
I don't remember what I ate yesterday other than the cheerios with wheat flakes in it. My tummy did have something to say about what I ate... not sure if it a wheat sensitivity or not. I ate a donut and an English muffin today, so we'll see. Dh is fixing beans. Smells good.
Seems rain is coming in, I'm ready to get everything school wise done- sure everyone is too.
Birthday update for DD. She wants paint stuff. I said "order it". She showed me a picture of a painting she did yesterday, girl has potential. So, I'm looking forward to some artworks at cost. She wants to see her not boy friend too, I said "book it". life's too short to penny pinch and not live. I'm so proud of her. I love finally being able to support what she wants to do, because she has or is beginning to find herself. Hallelujah.
back to the grind...4 -

I have a banana right before going out. On long run days (anything over about 10k) I have a bowl of porridge (oatmeal) or muesli with yoghurt about an hr before going out.0 -
Well I've done a week of sticking to calories. I feel better. I know the scales are about the same so no idea how much I'd gained after that 3 day binge.
So going to do another week, hope to be out of family isolation tomorrow...2 -

Yah, I usually eat oatmeal before longer runs. These are going to be 3-5 miles at most.
Bananas? What are those? 🤣
Apparently here they are apocalypse food because we haven't been able to get them for at least a month from Costco or our grocery store!2 -
@quilteryoyo that soup looks amazing. I am not a huge curry fan but with the lime juice, yum! I must get that recipe.
@avidkeo so impressed with your self control!
@RunsOnEspresso I usually have a few bites of banana for my longer runs which are short...4-7 miles compared to yours. I also like RX Bars - good flavors and ingredients and are gluten free. Not to heavy. I find it so weird that bananas are hard to get there. They are in abundance in TX. I wonder what the difference is?
@ddmom0811 That is the issue....what about the teachers? And staff? There are so many articles coming out about how to start up America after Covid and none of them are easy or perfect. Until we have truly widespread virus and antibody testing, I don't see how that is a good idea.3 -

Ohhh sorry lol. We are lucky here, no real shortages at all. Ummm some canned peaches? Just thinking of something light, that won't bog you down, and give a bit of an instant calorie boost in the morning.1 -
I will probably go with whatever fruit we have on hand. No prep involved. Well for the most part lol2
-
@RunsOnEspresso - Yah - I have a banana or half of one if we can get them. Sometimes a piece of toast with honey but I know toast is not something you can have. What about a Perfect bar (PB or almond butter and gluten free) or a Picky bar (also gluten free). I really like the Picky bars before I run at least the ones w/o chocolate. I cannot tolerate chocolate or dairy of any kind before I run. Oh something else that could work is a corn tortilla with a bit of PB or honey? That was my stepdad's favorite breakfast.
@Elise4270 - YAY to no shoulder pain and better ROM!! Also awesome that dd is doing so well and finding the things she loves!
I think both the apple cake and the soup look delicious. I don't have the ingredients for either but will definitely consider for the future. I also have a great recipe I haven't made in ages for a fresh apple cake with a cream cheese frosting. Yum!
So I don't think I mentioned it here but I made this great recipe for herb/cheese biscuits that are kind of like the ones from Red Lobster if you have had those. They are really delicious! However I entered the recipe in MFP and OMG -so high in fat (butter and cheese) and sodium and calories!! I will not be having any more or making them again.
I was able to get a grocery order made for delivery on Tuesday. I included lots of fresh vegetable so we'll see how that goes (bananas too). I am so picky about my veggies that I am dubious having someone else pick them out for me. I also found out that some Paneras now have groceries you can include with your meal order. They are basics that the restaurants would have like milk, bread, butter, tomatoes and avocados. So I tried it and sure enough I got my (one) avocado! It wouldn't do if you wanted several tomatoes or apples as they were per item and pretty expensive but I was happy with my single avocado for $1.50.
On the virus. I can't imagine we will be ready to 'go back to work/school' anytime soon. I was reading some articles about how other (European) countries have done it - essentially very slowly and with tons of testing. They also didn't even start considering it until there were very few if any new cases identified.3 -
@shanaber I sometimes have bread so I can do toast ir bagel thins. I do have picky bars (I'm an ambassador 🤣 apparently not a good one hahaha) I also was thinking some kind protein breakfast bars. I really like the dark chocolate one.2

Evening guys!
Well some success today. I went to the supermarket after work, was hungry and annoyed (frustrating day). And I kept thinking screw it, I'll get all the things. But I didn't. I just didn't find anything I actually wanted that badly. I did buy a single serve icecream (it was a new one I've been desperately wanting to try for a while now, and yep worth it!), and it fit into my calories.
So I had a treat, and stuck to calories woo hoo!3 -
@Elise4270 Glad the shoulder is feeling better and the DD is doing so well.
@Avidkeo Way to avoid the temptations!!! Sorry you had a frustrating day.1 -
I know I say this every day. I am going to do better, then end horribly. I think I am going to try to add a short walk in the neighborhood/addition a few times a day, maybe that'll keep me from eating go much. I should probably meal plan, but I just don't see the point when I can't go buy what I need. You figure I could still make a meal plan, pretend the Nazi's are outside. We started watching Hunters on Amazon prime. It's ok. Rouge group of Jews killing Nazi's from the Reich and foiling the plans to take over the world.
Chicken soup would be a good start. then maybe abandon school work for a long walk. My hips are uneven, I'll share a pic if i can get a good one, they are like 2 inches off. so I need a walk to stretch out all out.
Do you have any pandemic recipes to share?

Hugs Elise. I'm glad the shoulder is getting better and totally understand the food annoyance.
Confession. After I posted that I had a conversation with hubby that I spiralled from, and ate almost a whole block of chocolate. I bought it to attempt making icicles... So have to get another block now. Sigh.
My current favourite snack, a pita pocket (small one), pesto, smoked chicken breast and some cheese. Fill the pocket and toast on a sandwich press. Soooo good!2 -
@Avidkeo - sorry about the block of chocolate! We've all been there!
@elise4270 - no pandemic recipes to share! I'm so boring with the same things.
@shanaber - agree with you on someone picking the produce. I am picky too. And I usually buy those plastic tubs of various salad mixes but I pick it based on the furthest out date of expiration. I don't care if it's spinach, 50/50, or romaine as long as I have one that will get me through for one week.
I nearly jumped off the scale when I read the number today! (my scale automatically posts it to MPF and to Apple Health and I didn't want that number to be posted!) I've been in my high range but it jumped 2.5 overnight - I think because we had Indian takeout last night, I guess. Although, if I'm honest with myself, I have been having wine with dinner. A really big pour of wine! So probably two glasses. Then I have been eating chocolate right after dinner and lunch, even when I'm not hungry because I know I need to put my Invisalign back in! I need to really start logging everything for a few days and just the act of doing that will slow me down.
Today we did a 30 mile bike ride in a brutal wind going out and then a fun tail wind coming home. That's the way to do it! I'm getting ready to hop on treadmill for a mile or so, for my streak. And I started a four week "core program" with the free Peloton app. The first two days were only five mins each and I though, "hah, I work core all the time, I'm just going to skip to week two!" But I went ahead and did day 1 and was surprised it was not that easy!

Happy Easter y’all! We’re under a storm watch all day, I feel bad for all the little children whose parents were planning to have an Easter egg hunt at home in the sunshine, because there’s just no way. Praying everyone’s power stays on!
My husband and I usually use pasture-raised eggs which are brown but had to get ordinary white eggs a couple of weeks back due to shortages, so we dyed them all. I can’t remember why we got the basket but it’s been sitting on top of the fridge for two years with tea towels in it. So we have an Easter basket!
By the way I love hard boiling eggs in the instant pot, they come out perfect every time.
Easter dinner is gonna be a big pork loin with acorn squash and roasted red cabbage. We usually have leg of lamb for Easter but I completely failed to plan for it at the biweekly shopping trip. As someone who used to run to the store every other day, this having to plan ahead business is tripping me up.
In other food news, we have been ordering from our favorite gyro shop once a week since lockdown. The owner is a really great guy and we love him and miss chatting with him. So we were surprised when he texted my husband out of the blue the other day. Guess what he had for us!
Ahhhhh it’s hand sanitizer! 8 whole bottles of it! He got a whole pallet from a friend who works in the hotel business and remembered we talked about it so called to offer us some!
He also made me a shawarma wrap and gave me some cookies made with pistachios, honey and ricotta cheese.2 -
@rheddmobile What a nice guy! I'd be going to his shop a lot!0
-
Nice @rheddmobile I am totally up with supporting locally now. They are the ones who have looked after everyone, not the big corporate1
-
Back to logging every single thing today! (so far anyway, breakfast! haha).
I fell on my run this morning. Hopefully it didn't hurt anything internal, doesn't seem like it. I hate that feeling when you know it's coming and it feels like everything is in slow motion until you land. One elbow is very bruised but worst is one knee is a bloody mess. I may have to stop the core program I started because there is a lot of time on the knees. Just wasn't paying attention to sidewalk.
My daughter just texted me that the other person in her Strava feed also fell down today. So be careful!
3 -
I am behind in general on all the threads I follow here... don't think I have even looked at the Challenge thread since the middle of last week.
@rheddmobile - love the eggs! They look so pretty. We get brown eggs too so no coloring done here although I thought about it.
Love that your gyro guy is looking out for you! I think you have mentioned his shop and how great his food is in previous posts.
@ddmom0811 - I responded on your newsfeed about the fall. I hope everything is ok! I have broken bones twice in sidewalk falls so be careful!
We weren't able to get anything delivered to make Easter dinner so I was going to just make chicken but dh really wanted to order out so we did - nothing special though. I did make a nice brunch with pancakes, Canadian bacon and scrambled eggs. Then I watched Andrea Bocelli sing in Milan. What a fabulous show and they paired it with video of the empty cities all over the world. Wow. When he sang Amazing Grace, it brought tears. If you haven't seen it you can find it here on YouTube
I also did another Stretch and Roll online class and I got a new, longer foam roller that I tried out. At the end he had us rolling out our hip flexors and apparently I really needed that.
For whatever reason I decided I wanted to try an online Zumba class - HA! I tried at least 3 different ones and could not keep up and kept tripping over myself and Hobbes who apparently thought it was play time. Afterwards I searched on 'senior' Zumba and I think I found one I might be able to keep up with 😂😂
I hope everyone in the path of the storms like @rheddmobile, @quilteryoyo, @elise4270 and maybe @bearly63, are safe!1 -
@ddmom0811 I'm sorry about your fall! That stinks. Maybe you can still do some of the core work? Skip or modify the knee stuff?
I'm also trying to make sure I log everyday. Sometimes I forget and do it the next morning. Not always accurate but done.1 -
@ddmom0811 I hope the knee isn't a bother too long. The time I landed smack on mine, it took 6 months before it didn't hurt. Figure I might have had a bone bruise. Baby it.
PT
I can not believe the difference pt makes. My collar bone and a cervical vertebrae were out of place. She loosened the shoulder capsule with gently squeezing, then some torturous stretches. I'm encouraged and the discernible progress in a short time. I tried to get some violin practice prior to pt and just couldn't tolerate it. Maybe this afternoon I will be able too. Violin class tomorrow, so I need to finish up an assignment. I hate to cry "shoulder" and not.
Food.
Coffee.
I found left over frozen cacciatore in the freezer I'll have for lunch.
Dinner
Maybe that chicken soup.
Storms. The temp dropped 40 degrees. I think snow is in the forecast for tomorrow. What? It was 93 the other day! We had rain, wind, and hail. Today's cool, breezy, and sunny.
The scale isn't being kind today. I feel like it's PMS. But that's "normal" these days.
Back to the grind. I have an exam today... And lots of other crap this week.1 -
Good morning all and happy post Easter.
@shanaber - we got rain but no bad winds so all good. Weather yesterday and today is gorgeous. Great days for a run.....dang it!!!!! I missed the concert - I wonder if they will replay it. That would have me cry too.
@ddmom0811 sorry about your fall....thank god nothing is broken.
@Elise4270 Glad that the PT is helping.
Easter food was yummy. I didn't bother to even log - too much work. Breakfast - Awesome lemon blueberry dutch baby. Basically an oven pancake. Easy and delish.
Dinner was ham, Ina Garten Au Gratin Potatoes, fantastic and I am sure thousands of calories and green beans (which DH always decides are better with bacon and onions)
Today I am back at it....logging, more veggies and hopefully no junk. At least until lunch time2 -
@ddmom0811 Ouch! I hope your knees heal quickly!
Thanks @shanaber . It stormed here just a little last night, but the main part missed us. I think the bad part stayed south of us. It was really bad in Chattanooga, I hear. BTW, it amazes me that you can remember where we live. I am horrible at that! You rock!
@Elise4270 Glad the PT made such a positive difference. Temps made a big drop here too. It's Spring!

I have been eating out of control for two days after being rock solid with an almost completely gluten free, dairy free, plant based diet. I was having such anxiety about it today that I almost paid $100 for macrostax (another fad nutrition app) to tell me what and when to eat, etc.
Then I had a lightbulb moment where I realized _ I can just make different decisions from here on out. I have pot roast and mashed potatoes leftovers for lunch tomorrow, then beans and beets and kale and spinach and beet greens for lunches for the rest of the week. It will be okay. The days after I run, I am SO thirsty and SO ravenous, but yesterday and today I just seriously went nuts. Hopefully I will stick to my guns better tomorrow!4
