@Elise4270 How many calories are you "allowed" in a day? That doesn't seem like very much food.

@shanaber Hahahaha (1st paragraph) Great job on keeping your weight off. I know those few pounds are worrisome, but you can get them off again. It is hard when you "have" to eat to maintain energy and live. You look great in your profile picture. Have fun at Happy Hour.

@bearly63 Hope your hip feel better and your appointment goes well.

@Avidkeo Great job on sticking to your calorie goals and seeing the scale go down. Sounds like we have similar goals and similar experiences with the weight. I started getting serious this time when I reached 187.4 pounds (85 kg) back in April 2015. (I can't believe it's been that long. I thought it was just a couple of years back. Time sure does fly.) I am currently at 142 lbs (64.5 kg) with a goal of 135 lbs (61 kg). I have decided if I stay below 145 lbs (66 kg), I'll be happy. But, I'd really like lose a little more. I'm 5'6" tall. How about you?

@Elise4270 I hope your headache went away. That sounds horrible.

Wow way similar! I was about 88.7kg (194lb ish) when I started this particular journey on 11 December 2016 - my youngest was 6 months old. I'm currently this morning 66.0kg, and yeah aiming for around 60... I'm 5'4" so can go a couple of kg lighter. This is the lightest I've ever been, well at the beginning of the month when I hit 64.5kg was haha. So now I'm aiming for that again, than then continue down.

I think one of my biggest struggles is patience. I just want to lose it now lol.

But the fact I dropped back to 66kg easily is great news. I normally bounce to 67 and stay there for ages.

I'm still gutted that I'm 1.5kg over my lightest though lol.

@bearly63 I saw those glasses. I think I'll mention to my eye doc about the migraines and see what he suggests.
I'd keep the appointment. Better to find out sooner than later I'd think. I'm curious to know how your coming along. When I went to Baylor last week, they said they were still doing some nonemergent surgeries, just not very many. so things are moving at a snails pace I think. My thinking to schedule when they suggested, was to keep on track and not get bumped 6 months if i didn't. Your dinner sounds good btw.

@quilteryoyo Ideally I target 1000 calories a day, but never eat less than 1500. I had 3000 yesterday so trying to sort of make up for it today didn't work. This is why I'm up ~12 pounds this last year. I need to get in a few meager days to sort of re-set my eating. Today turned out not to bad. DH took me for a walk then bought me fried chicken and mashed potatoes because hes my enabler.

    weight
I am so close to my highest non-pregnant weight. I gotta make changes. Just losing muscle and getting fat.

@Elise4270 you have a lot on your plate rn. Between injuries, impending surgery, school, parenting, damn. Too much! 1000 cals seem low unless that’s your rmr and your adding back daily activity. Maybe just focus on one thing .... getting more protein or water or something easy...more veggies. Small things add up to bigger things.

I think I will go to the doc. I have questions. Denial is a .....well y’all know.

@Avidkeo impressed with your self control while working in healthcare and having little ones ....keep it up!

@quilteryoyo thank you! Think I’m feeling my age too, physically not mentally 😅

Don't forget this is your bare minimum calories you burn in a day - so if you were in a coma you burn this many calories. So you need a sense of your tdee (total daily energy expenditure) - don't use your bmr, you need to eat that to function. Your tdee is probably a minimum of 1500, so even if you stick to 1200 calories, the bare minimum recommended for women, then you are in deficit and will lose, and that rate works out around 0.5lb a week, or 2lb a month.

Thanks guys - I look at those pictures and I can't believe how big I was before and that even my arms were fat.
@bearly63 - One of the things I love about strength training is being strong. Being able to lift and move things is a great feeling. I also kind of secretly love surprising people when I lift and carry that 40lb bag of dog food... or whatever 😁 I would keep the appointment too. Let us know how it goes.

@RunsOnEspresso I will check out the Flyout top. I know REI has some marked down. I was a little concerned that I may not like the fabric though. Is it bumpy? I have the Volee team black and white top that is really thin and I love it but it is black so not sure I will love it when it is 85 out. I can test it on Wednesday or Thursday - it is supposed to 90! I also have the flyte shirt also in black but it is a bit heavier.

@Elise4270 Like @bearly63 said, adding more veggies can give you volume of food without a lot of calories. And, you do have a whole lot on your plate, so I get overeating to cope. It is hard when you have an enabling partner. However, one piece of chicken and a cup or so of mashed potatoes would have been okay. I'm for eating anything in moderation.

@bearly63 I never feel my age mentally. I think 60 is the new 25.

I think MFP is overgenerous on the number of calories it says I can eat. My resting HR is fairly low, at around 55. I don't think they take that into account and it has to make a difference, right? Yesterday was a rest day, and I rested. Garmin says I only burned 1538 calories. MFP says I can eat 1490 to lose the half pound per week. Not going to happen if I don't exercise. I should probably reset that number. I know I could link my Garmin to MFP, but not having a foot pod my treadmill runs would show a lot shorter distance than it really is. Anyway, I'm rambling. Sorry.

Another headache today... Took tylenol but it's probably a migraine. I wonder if it's hormonal. I told DH I wasn't going to stand for these changes and would go get the hormone pellets ASAP. I bailed on PT this AM. With the virus, no one would want me hangin' about if I feel the slightest bit unwell.

    Food.
Probably everything... But am going to try to cut the refined carbs/foods back.

there is somethin in my house... I hear noises but see nothing. Last night I walked into the kitchen to find a small earth snake. I figure beary must have brought in something else. I hope it isn't a shrew. man, those things stink.

    scrutinizing my calorie needs.
I know that if i can accurately log 1000/day, I can move the scale a little, maybe a half pound a week. So that's the goal. More than that, I do not lose. 1200 maintains. Lucky me.

Last night we grilled burgers they were great except dh overdid it with his seasoning mix. I am sure it is at least 80% salt so this morning my eyes are so puffy. I also made a huge green salad and baked beans (canned) and we had some tortilla chips. I ate everything but the beans, they were just too much for me. It just tasted like a normal spring Sunday except we would typically have the brother and sister in law over too.

We had incredible weather here yesterday...one of those dry, warm, pre-mosquito days that happen about twice a year so we sat outside and enjoyed it.

    Food:

Big breakfast - I discovered this stuff called "Kodiak Cakes" in the pancake mix section. Really good and they have 14 grams of protein. Come in different flavors but so far my fav is cinnamon oat. Obviously not low carb (31 g) and 190 cals / per serving for 3 4"cakes. Nice option when you get sick of eggs.

Grilled burgers - made them "animal style" ala InNOut....grill with mustard and grilled onions. I did not do a bun. Added a spinach strawberry salad.

Today I did a couple of rides and messed around with trying to sync my heart rate monitor on my apple watch to the Peloton via an app called Blue Heart. It would not connect. No big deal I just felt stupid until I read that the developer had problems as well with it....go figure.

@elise4270 Sorry about the headache. It probably is hormonal. Woman have it rough IMHO.

I'm having a hungry day today. Want to eat so bad, and it doesn't help that everyone around me at work is the same!

So I'm drinking lost of water - hey helps with my step count, all the walking to the other side of our department to go to the bathroom lol. And I'm just concentrating on the plan, it's OK to feel hungry, it won't kill me. Lunch is in half an hr, I can eat then. Think about the goal. Also, I'm going to eat cake tomorrow so need to be good today!

@bearly63 - I actually have some of the kodiak cakes mix in my cupboard that I forgot all about. It is good and I will have to make some this week.
Did you try to see if the Peloton is connectable via bluetooth from your watch or phone directly? I know with some of the gym bikes/treadmills you can connect with bluetooth and set it up in the health app to be able to share/receive data. So on my phone I have the Peloton app set up in Health settings to read my data and to be able to write data even though I wouldn't normally use it for that.

@bearly63 - as of right now we are still doing grades, however I think it may change to P/F soon. We still have 6.5 weeks to go and I heard there are changes coming for grades.

@elise4270 - sorry about your migraine. You don’t need anything else on your plate.

I’ve had those Kodiak Cakes and they are good!
Food pretty good except for ice cream the last two nights. Not today! I decided to make a banana bread, hopefully that won’t be devoured by me alone in 1-2 days. ;)

Hmmm so so close to a late evening binge, but I managed to rein it in. I'm technically over calories for today by 300, but that's still a 200 deficit so I can handle that.

I had a good week, I'm determined to make it two in a row.

That said, period is due in a few days, which is probably one reason that I'm starting to start craving, also some changes happening here with the slightly relaxed lock down causing some anxiety at work. We are all worried that the relaxing will cause a spike in cases.

Yeah I keep forgetting just how stressed I am with that. I seem to be in denial about just how anxious I really am. Definitely probably why things are so so hard.

I think it looks bumpy but it's not really all that textured? It's shoved away in the closet so I'd have to dig it out LOL
I have the light blue team one. I remember thinking I wouldn't like the texture and there wasn't really any but was a lot thinner than I thought.

@shanaber and @ddmom0811 I will see what the other options are. The idea with the Blue heart is to cast your HRM from your device via blue tooth to the the Peloton. For some reason, it just doesn't maintain the connection...which when I read the FAQs and troubleshooting, it was actually mentioned by the developer that they had the same problem. He or she blamed apple lol. No worries.

I love my watch and it actually is more accurate since it does have the HRM so I ignore the Peloton calories. But I would like to connect them so I can see my HR on the screen. The idea of wearing a HRM around my chest sounds hot.

@avidkeo I can totally understand your stress about relaxing the lock down. The num nuts in the states that are planning on lifting the lockdowns in the South are going to end up causing more issues and the healthcare frontline workers get the brunt of it. Crazy!

    Exercise Today
Did a warm up and 2 fun rides and some core.

    Food
sandwich for lunch and chicken and a salad for dinner.

@bearly63 I wear a HRM around my chest and have for years, even in the awful Florida heat!
I love my Garmin Fenix 5! 2 fun rides and core! Are you doing the "crush your core with Emma" on the Peloton app. I am and it is HARD. I thought it would be easy for me because I have been lifting weights for many years. Nope! Today was week 2, day 4 and WOW, it was tough for me. I still can't put weight on my knee for anything involving that so have to default to deadbugs when she does something on the knees. The knee inside is fine, it's the huge scab on the outside.

@avidkeo - I don't blame you all for being nervous. I heard someone say the impact would be about 3 weeks after they lift it. But honestly, no one really knows, no matter what their expertise is.

Agree, the stress of all this is a lot even if it isn't a full out panic attack. I went to Whole Foods yesterday afternoon and I only saw one person not in a mask. This is different than it has been in the big grocery I usually go to (a week ago). I try to only go once in a week or longer if I can. I felt so sad looking around at all of us. It's just so shocking that we are here now.

@shanaber - I have been running on TM since my fall, first to protect the knee, until it heals. I don't want to wear pants on it and don't want to bandage it anymore. But, I have had to go to bathroom almost every single day after 1.5 miles. What is going on!? Maybe it is the stress making this happen to us, instead of something else.

The banana bread is so good. Everyone has banana bread recipes, I know. This one is low in sugar. I always buy bananas and I freeze them when they get soft to use in my smoothies. I realized I had so many in freezer so that's why I made the bread. https://tastesbetterfromscratch.com/skinny-banana-bread/
I used whole wheat flower and honestly I think I could cut down from 2T of sugar to 1T. It just doesn't need it I think because of the cinnamon. I have had 3 pieces ... in 1.5 days.

So today was soooo hard. So hard.
I just wanted to eat all the things. I kept myself busy, but was in the kitchen for a lot of the morning.

At dinner time I was 300 calories over goal for the day. So I did something both healthy and unhealthy, I went for a fast 6.5km walk. That got me enough calories to take care of the over goal, and give me enough to have some peaches and yoghurt. Currently I have 2 calories left. Whew.

I say unhealthy because it's a slippery slope doing exercise simply to sort out the calorie deficit. I have enough anxiety issues to be aware that it can be a concerning way to go. But tonight I'd just had so much sugar, and I knew I wanted to give in and stuff my face. So an hr our of the house solved that problem, and gave me enough to plan.

For the next 2 days Im aiming to carb load as I'm running a HM at home on Saturday. So attempting to increase the carbs. Never done this before so it's good practice and requires planning. If I binge I'll throw that balance out. So I have no choice but to stick to plan for the next 2 days.

@Avidkeo I think you have a good enough head on your shoulders that you aren't going to fall down that rabbit hole. I think getting out of the house for an hour was good therapy for you, regardless of the reasons.

@bearly63 - Like @ddmom0811 I have pretty much always worn a HRM strap. I started long before I got my Apple Watch and just kept using it when I run. Mostly because the watch gives me some really bizarre numbers at times. It has gotten better as they have improved the HR function on the watch but for a while it was really off. It also saves on the watch battery when I am running which was especially important when I was running longer distances.
@Avidkeo - I am sure you won't slide off that slippery slope. Sometimes I find when I have had too much sugar I need to get it out of my system because it makes me too hyper and I can't sleep. Going for a walk is the prefect solution. Also peaches and yogurt sounds delicious!
@ddmom0811 - I hope your knee is feeling better. I am having to make a concerted effort to get up early to run now. It will be in the 90's tomorrow through the weekend and it will be the only way I can get out for a run and no gym to go to for the treadmill. I am hoping my stomach issues will not flare up again. Maybe if I can run without eating anything first?

Last night we had a no meat dinner. Just baked potatoes topped with veggies and a bit of cheese. Years ago this was a regular dinner or even just a huge plate of steamed veggies. We both said how good it was so I think we will have it more often. I had a big salad with chicken for lunch but ended up low on protein. Not terrible but enough that I was hungry before bed but didn't want to eat. Amazingly I didn't wake up hungry in the middle of the night and I wasn't starving this morning.

I got my glove order yesterday so today I am going to venture out to the grocery stores. Hilde needs some frozen things from Trader Joes and we need some basics.

@shanaber Your veggie potato sounds good. And its simple enough even I could make it. Which veggies do you favor on it? I think maybe broccoli and brussel sprouts maybe cauliflower? I fell like I can use that as a filling transition back to "do better" meals.

    Yesterdays Food
    cereal
    noosa
    pizza
    tylenol
    benadryl
    singular

    Today's food
    coffee
    tylenol
    benadryl
    singular
contemplating tylenol 3 or norco. I have this constant headache that comes and goes, what 4-5 days now? My violin instructor gave me list of assignments so after an hour of class yesterday, I spent more time practicing.. I don't think the shoulder likes it. It was harder to sleep. Of course, I'm back at it today because I want an A. I also don't want to waste her time by not practicing.

I am in more all over pain than I am use too. Few days ago I got tired of looking at the overgrown shrubs and one area, no matter the barrier and rocks I put in, gets so overgrown you can't tell the flower bed from the yard. I got the electric trimmers out and got most of it until my back could literally stand no more. Probably didn't help the shoulder, but at the time it seemed like a good strengthening exercise. It still quivers with weakness, even trying to practice violin today.

I have shoulder pt tomorrow unless I still don't feel perfect. Just in case it is the vid.

I spoke to the trauma surgeon yesterday. No date, but the scheduling assistant will phone once they get the okay to start scheduling elective surgery again. I voted for early June.

@shanaber - IDK if it will help to run on an empty stomach. I always do. Happened again today- have to pause Peloton. This never happens cycling, and I’m sure it won’t on the peloton bike. Nice on the vegetarian meal! As you know I’ve been vegetarian since August 2018 and at first I did have trouble getting enough protein in, but somehow I have worked it out. With the Hello Fresh meals they have the right mix for the veg meals of legumes/carbs/etc to make it work out. Since I’ve been home for the last five weeks my lunch salad hasn’t had protein on it. I used to either add a couple eggs or edamame or hemp seeds. But I just haven’t had those things around, so just had a plain salad. Though my home salad (and even when I pack for school) has tons of different veggies in it.

@elise4270 - Oh no, I’m so sorry for your pain!

@avidkeo - I had to reread your post a couple times to understand what you meant about it being unhealthy. But now I get it. I guess I didn’t get it at first because I have probably done that myself (added on exercise for calories to eat). I haven’t done it in many years but I know when I was losing I did do that.

Non food - I texted my hairdresser and asked her if she was okay and that I could pay for my next appt (which is not set) now if she needed it. Then I’d probably just pay her again, but didn’t say that. But she said she just got her stimulus check and is fine for now. She’s hoping FL will be back open by May 15. IDK... not feeling too hopeful. Though GA is.

I’ve been doing very well this week so far on food. I have been trying to stop criticizing parts of my body that I don’t like. I think because I’ve been home so much, and I have a huge mirror in my home gym, and I can’t wear capri workout pants (because of knee), I have been quite critical of my legs! The cellulite, the fat! So I am trying to stop that nonsense and remember I’m 58, and actually was not in this good of shape from the time I was 31-51! So stop it!!! I’m fit. 20 years ago if I’d heard of a woman doing all the exercise I do at my current age, I would have thought she was superwoman. So I am declaring all of us superwomen. @elise4270 - yes you too. You will be running with us one day. No one is more determined than you.
Yes, I did have my vodka drink tonight, lol. But not the last two nights.

@Elise4270 So sorry you are in that much pain. I hope the PT can help tomorrow.

@ddmom0811 So sweet of you to want to give your hairdresser that money. The last time I had mine cut, we knew that any day they would be telling them they couldn't come in, so I gave her a bigger than normal tip. Looking back, I wish I had given her more. I agree. I think we are all superwomen and I haven't had my Gin and tonic yet. LOL I'm with you, I am in much better shape at 60 than I have been at any other time in my adult life. Probably better than college even.
