Is the retiree in the band? I would have asked for a kazoo if I was in the band. Looks like you had a good time.

Yes, the retiree's one of the band. "The Back Pages Band". I started to lose my voice early on trying to talk over the music. Colleagues I haven't seen in probably 15 years in person and couldn't talk. Frustrating. But the retiree was happy.

I’m celebrating my Medicare birthday today by doing laundry and other domestic goddess chores, lol! DH has a meeting at church tonight, so we can’t even go out to dinner today, but we will celebrate later in the week. Now I can go and get my high dose flu shot that I couldn’t get last week, too. Boy, do I know how to celebrate or what!

Pam - yup, you know how to celebrate all right! With your first high dose flu shot no less. LOL!

I've got to get serious about the food and exercise again. Since mid May when I broke my arm I've been eating whatever I want and could get (on our once a week race through the grocery store). DH didn't want me on the treadmill and not arguing was easiest. But I'm pre-diabetic and pre (at least) hypertensive and I've got to get serious. I'm starting slow. Made up a weekly spreadsheet and plan to tweak things weekly. Hopefully by November I'll be back to my daily calorie counting spreadsheet. I lost 3 pounds last week.

Happy birthday Pam. I didn't know you had an October birthday too. Mine was last week. We went to CVS to get flu shots today as well.

We wanted the high dose shot and the pharmacist said they'd just run out. I asked when they'd get more and he said he hoped next week. We got DH a Prevnar pneumonia shot while we were there. I got mine last January in FL. Pharmacist suggested waiting and getting the Prevnar with the flu shot. I said no because DH has already had pneumonia twice in his life You need a booster a year later and then once every five years.

We stopped at Panera for lunch and I got my nails done. As we were heading home, I suggested we stop at Walgreens to see if they had the flu hots. They did so we got them there. Walgreen is a much newer store and is never as busy as CVS. We get our RX at CVS because it's easier to stick with where we've always gone. Plus there's a CVS on the island where we winter so it's easier to transfer prescription there. But if I'd just moved to town, I probably would have picked Walgreens.

I tried to get my flu shot last week, but I wanted the high dose one. Since I was 6 days away from my birthday, the bureaucracy said I wasn’t old enough to get the high dose version. I opted to wait a week and get it later. I didn’t make it to the pharmacy today after all, but I’ll definitely make sure I get it sometime this week.

We always get flu shots and started with the high dose last year. FL was very hard hit with flu last year with a number of fatalities. We kept out of crowds and managed not to come in contact with any sick people.

I didn't know you needed to get pneumonia every 5 years. I'll have to update my spreadsheet. Every time I think I'm caught up it seems something else comes up!

This is the new version. It's more effective than the older shot. You get Prevnar 13 the first year and then a year later, you get the booster, Prevnar 23. After that, you get a booster of 23 every five years, DH had a bad case of pneumonia 3 years ago at the same time as his heart attack. So I really wanted him to get this shot. He got the regular shot while he was in the hospital then but I want him to have max protection. I'd like to get the new shingles shot too. My insurance isn't covering it but I may just pay for it myself. It's pricey but I appreciate the peace of mind. I got the old version about 10 years ago but the Shingrex is more effective and is recommended over 50. And I'm well over that!

If one drug store is out, shop around. we found it at our second stop. Medicare covers the cost, BTW.

I have a lot of vaccinations to get caught up. I need the pneumonia, shingles, and flu vaccines. I think the only one I’m current on is tetanus. I’ve been waiting for Medicare to kick in because my old insurance didn’t cover any of those until my deductible was met for the year, and except for the year I had the broken ankle, I’ve never met my deductible. I should have tried to get some of those that year, but didn’t think about it.

I've had the Prevnar shot, the flu shot and the first of the Shingles shot.

I also have to get serious again about eating right and exercising. I have a cardiologist appointment tomorrow for routine follow up.

I've had the first two Prevnar shots. Didn't know about the 5-years. DH and I have been trying to get the new shingles but it's out of stock everywhere. We're on a waiting list at Safeway (of all places). I sort of want to wait until the worst of the shortages are over. I'd hate to get the first shot and then not be able to get the second timely.

That makes sense. We'll probably do the new shingles shot in FL. I feel I have time to wait since we have gotten the older version. I feel somewhat protected by that. When I was looking to get it, I was anxious about the possibility of getting shingles before I was vaccinated. The vaccine is no guarantee but it gave me peace of mind. My brother got a severe case of shingles a couple years ago with the lingering nerve pain. He got his shot as soon as possible after his recovery.

I've been watching ebay for NS chili and soup. Finally got some yesterday. As the weather gets colder, hopefully I can have chili for dinner sometimes and give myself a break from salads at lunch other days.

I also bought a 3-day South Beach offer on ebay. I'm thinking I might try doing South Beach for 3 days. I'm like a kid. I get bored. I need to try different things to keep myself interested.

And of course I've got plenty of Jenny Craig here to intersperse. I don't actually follow any of the programs. I just use the food as low calorie, easy meals.

I discovered to my dismay that JC no longer sells their 3-day kit. I always liked ordering that occasionally.

I like easy to prepare meals. If I had one of those food replicators from Star Trek, I would be living the easy life. "Chicken Kiev, please!"

Or one of those auto chefs from the Eve Dallas books. I like how she hides her candy bars in there and programs them under something like "cauliflower" to try to keep people from stealing them.

Maryanne--Cauliflower would do it!! Can you imagine Halloween treats interspersed with cauliflower? Guess which would be left.
