It’s full-on spring/summer here. Temperatures about 10+ over normal. 80s to near 90 and so muggy. Usually air conditioning season isn’t until late April. So there’s lots of pollen flying around! Past week I’ve just been fighting sinus headaches and fatigue. It makes for some poor eating choices. 😕2

Hard to imagine that weather at this time of year, Yooly. Hope it normalizes soon. I guess you have to do all your outside stuff early in the day or late? Is it still cooking off seasonally at night????
This morning my big excitement is having a contractor come to look at a collapsed building trap in shared sewer lateral that happens to be in my front yard just in front of the gate to the backyard. I live in a row house - three attached "workers cottages" built in 1884 without running water. Lot of "addons" since then. All of it a bit of a mystery. But I know the three houses share this lateral and we all definitely have a sewer issue that manifests itself differently in each house.
Today is my first quote from a legitimate sewer contractor. The Rescue Rooter fellows gave us a quote but the magnitude of this job is way outside of their wheelhouse so I'm not really considering it...yet.
Big hole, perhaps big trench will need to be dug in a very tight space. Going to be a BIG gardening challenge. Honestly - I'm too old for this now. I spent decades with my own landscape design build business - 100 pound rocks and endless lumber and bags of cement were the norm. Not these days. I'm cringing a bit. Hope the shoulder and the wallet holds up2 -
I feel like I need to explain something as I am sure there are some people who go "why is Athijade always sick for 1 or 2 days and then feels better?".
I deal with chronic fatigue. What happens is if I don't take care of myself by eating well, getting enough sleep, and not overdoing things I get sick. It is almost like my body just goes "Hey! Stop! Gonna make you sick so you stop!" Once I get some rest, I usually feel much better.
I also have chronic pain so that doesn't help either.
Anyway, so far this week I am doing okay. Was in the office yesterday and it wasn't too bad. The bus ride was easy and it was nice to get out and about a bit. Today I am home (knew I couldn't do 3 days in a row of being around people) but I go back in tomorrow.2 -
No need to explain Athijade. I have a friend who has suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome for many years. She has to be very careful about conserving her limited energy. Over time she’s learned to listen to signals from her body to alert her and has more good days. The frustrating part was finding a doctor who would treat her symptoms as real as opposed to psychological. Do take good care of yourself!
Laurie - upper 80s might 🌞 seem like an unbearable heatwave to sensitive Canadians. But here in Texas it’s considered mild, perfect outdoor weather. There are even passing clouds to offer some shade. Everyone is eating at outdoor cafes, picnics, sports events. Night time temps in the 60s. Shorts and open window weather.
SUMMER 🔥 is coming soon with days 95-100+ and nights around 75. Blazing ☀️cloudless skies where 15 minutes outside results in sunburn.
The older I get the less tolerant my body gets of extreme weather!

The cafes, picnics, sports events sound nice in the upper 80s. I was thinking of exercising/digging/extended walking!

Jogging, running, construction, long walks - it’s primo season for all that in Texas right now.
Got to work in all my meals before a 12 hour fast for lab work tomorrow. It’s routine in preparation for my six month doctor visit next week. Hoping all the numbers are good!1 -
I don't do heat well. Anything above like 85 and I feel gross. Going to try and get over that so I can enjoy the summer here in Chicago. We have beaches! Though I am not a fan of sand. Or wearing a bathing suit. But maybe I can put on some shorts and just sort of put my feet in the water.
Going to work on my meal plan for next week tonight. No in office days and only one day where I have to do something "unnormal". I have to finally go get my IL DL. Going first thing in the morning on Tuesday so fingers crossed it won't be too busy. Then home to work the rest of the day.2 -

Good luck with the drivers license people Athijade. I’m sure it will all go well except maybe for the usual unfortunate required photo.
I’ve had to get drivers licenses in Colorado, Ohio, Nebraska, Maine, Illinois, Virginia, South Carolina and Texas. Funny how rules vary from state to state. Some places it was just turn over your old license and pay a fee. Others required a written test. Mercifully none required I actually get in the car and drive or attempt parallel parking! None of the photos were even mildly flattering.

When I decided to lose weight I was all in. Finally I enjoy my six month checks because the news is generally good, doctor is happy and it only lasts about 20 minutes. If something is wrong there’s no point in procrastination- I don’t have time for that!2 -

But they were all BEFORE photos. Last renewal in Texas, I had to convince the clerk that it was really me! Had to get new passport for the same reason. The customs people in Vancouver four years ago scrutinized my photo and I had to show another ID.
Doubt you look like a criminal PAV - maybe just a bit shady?

Gosh .. it was back in November that I wrote this in my introduction of myself to this group: "I need a new winter jacket and refuse to buy one until I can purchase a size smaller and have it fit nicely." ...
The other day, I was surfing YouTube and ran across an interview with a woman who wrote a book about how she lost weight through kindness to herself. It was a few days ago and my memory is fuzzy ... but a thought about that interview has kept with me that relates back to what she was trying to get across.
My sentence about refusing to buy a new jacket fits right into an example of the self-talk the author was trying to STOP. Her spin on it is that this kind of logic is an example of self-dislike, and when you dislike something or someone, you don't put your best efforts into making a happy or supportive atmosphere for them; which is exactly what you need when you are trying to change yourself.
I thought I was self-talking in ways to motivate myself into doing the things I needed to do to lose weigh; upon reflection now, I'm thinking my self-talk is what needs the change in order for me to like myself well enough to feel that I deserve that new jacket now, even if the size is still a 2X.

That idea really resonates with me too, NSK. I know - though often have to remind myself - that the best way to get and stay on course is to feel good about me. If my clothes are too tight I just feel terrible and that usually equals poor food choices. Nothing makes my too tight pants fit better than buying a pair that fit (usually at a Value Village type store because they are "temporary" pants ) and dressing to look as good as I can at whatever my current weight is.
I know that discipline is more important than motivation - but looking your best does put add a bit of zest that motivates better discipline1 -
Honestly, the quality of my clothes improved 100% since began haunting thrift shops. Before, I’d pick up anything that might fit at discount or big box stores. Thrifting takes some time but it’s an adventure! And you’re helping the environment by recycling.
You won’t believe the number of new (tags still on) and barely worn clothes at these shops. And well-made, department store, designer stuff. Coats, dresses, pants, tops..... my favorite coat was $5. As I lost weight I disposed of anything too big/small immediately.
I found it very helpful to dress well as I went through sizes. Nothing gives you a psychological boost like feeling good about yourself.

When I was on the downward trend of WL back a decade ago, my company happened to be next to a strip mall with a JCPenney. Every couple of weeks, I would go over and try on shirts and jeans that were a size smaller to help gauge how much progress I was making.
Regardless of the size on the tag, it always felt great when a smaller size would begin to fit better.2 -

Yesterday I went to visit a doctor also - a breast cancer surgeon. This diagnosis has been in the works since last summer, but after a biopsy last month and a long delay because of staffing shortages in the pathology lab, it is finally here. I'm in for a ride this spring. Looking at a partial mastectomy and a sentinel lymph biopsy surgery in the coming weeks. With any luck it will stop there.
This is going to interfere with my rowing for three weeks or so (maybe less???)
Back to the evil question soon too...deficit or maintenance during recovery. That one killed my slow loss/maintenance a while back. This time I plan on sticking to a small deficit. That will best keep me on the straight road - eating a healthy diet and staying vigilant (obsessed) on the macros.
Except for my birthday.
There may be TWO out of the groove birthday dinners involving a slice of cake. Plus an extra cake and tea night with a friend. Thank goodness my local son is a healthy food nut. He and I will share some green soup and maybe some kind of crustless pumpkin pie with candles. Perhaps my hamsters are putting too much thought into these birthday shenanigans? Or maybe, hopefully, I am putting all the necessary thought into this so that I can maintain some control!

Tough thing to face Laurie but it has to be done. Hopefully the surgery will be the end of it. But it’s better to know and deal with it. I’ve had a couple of breast surgeries for precancerous conditions. Not fun but necessary.
Yeah you might have to skip rowing for a while but there’s other body parts to work on? Maybe your impossibly lovely long legs?
Maybe try just eating well with a small deficit and see how that works. Get your protein for sure. And definitely don’t skimp on the birthday celebrations. One or two days don’t make that much difference. Enjoy it, store the tasty memories and get back to portion control the next day.

I think exercise will just have to stay in a holding pattern for a bit....this "lovely long" right leg is being problematic lately - hence the rowing. Meniscus surgery in the near future too??? Hopefully soon??? As long as it is all done before the summer. I've been holding onto a Newfoundland trip plan since I returned in November. My heart aches to hold the hand of The Boy.2 -
Get the patchwork done and over with. It’s a pain but will let you get on with the good things you want to do.
As an aside - I’ve never been cautioned by my doctors to eat more or change my diet after surgery. Generally I tried to stick with the good healthy stuff and avoid soothing myself with treats. Cause when the recovery was over the treat residue would surely have to be dealt with!
You’ll do just fine and be squeezing that little fellows hand in a few months.2 -

So sorry about the final results. May everything go as smooth as possible. I would maybe keep a small deficit but also listen closely to your body. I don't know if you are doing any other treatments besides surgery, but it can be rough on your body. Getting SOME nutrients is better then getting none when nothing sounds good but a milk shake. I have known WAY too many people who have dealt with cancer. If you need anything, let me know. I know it's long distance, but I am here for support!
Really tired today and trying to take some time to catch up on chores around the house. Already cleaned the bathroom and mopped and swept the floors in the bathroom, bedroom, and living room. Need to do my little office space and the kitchen floors still. The other cleaning I want to do this weekend is just general organizing and straightening.
Work training was rough. Just a lot of information in 3 days and I am feeling mushy brained from it.3 -
I'm hoping, Yooly. The meniscus surgery won't be quick - not an emergency type situation...but maybe I'll get lucky?
