Non Scale Victories

I wouldn't have made it out without consuming cheese impregnated pasta. I'm impressed you did!2
-
Yup. I’m pretty hard core that way. No third rate catered cheese. It better be quality stuff to waste all those calories.2

Way to go. I may have avoided the lasagna (and only if I didn't go near it, smell it - so no doggie bag for anyone). But if I didn't it would have probably been a bit of an overindulge situation.
Good for you!2 -
Today's little NSV. When The Boy sleeps over, I tend to fall asleep very early with him, wake up for a few hours of alone time, then back to bed for an early rise with him.
I'm up now in that very dangerous "few hours awake time" - which usually equals a tea and a snack.
Tonight - it is water and 3 clementines (and the iron pill I forgot to take today).

Went to a holiday party and realized I am no longer the biggest person in the room! Actually I’m pretty much average in our overweight world.
Still working on the final 25 lbs. but I’m still adjusting to being me right now.3 -
Those are two awesome NSVs Laurie and Yooly!
My NSV was resisting a slice of the Spiced Cranberry Treacle Tart that my husband made this lunchtime as a test-run for one of his Christmas Eve desserts.
He knew before he made it that I'm not a fan of desserts, and I especially don't care for dense, sweet desserts like treacle tart.
Even so, he looked hurt when I declined to partake. His look of injured disappointment would usually have been sufficient to make me relent and have a slice...but I didn't. I reminded him that I dislike treacle tart, and at 570 calories for a small slice it was a waste of my limited calories. His injured look melted away in the face of my flawless reasoning (heh heh) and I felt happy for my little victory of self-assertion.4 -
Now that was well done
It seems difficult for people to... just back off. Neither hindrance nor active attempts to help wanted pretty please!4 -
Okay. This is a stretch for NSV but I was kind of surprised. I got some steroid injections in my hip this week. The doctor commented that it might be a bit painful because I have minimal fat over the hip. Never before losing weight have I ever lacked hip fat! 😂 Good thing the injection wasn’t in the belly area - no lack of adipose tissue there!4
-
Wow! I would call that a NSV for sure - no stretchin' there2

A small NSV over the holidays. I didn’t mind being photographed for the first time in decades. 😁 Not that every photo was flattering! But I didn’t hide from the camera as I did for years.4

That's another huge NSV Yooly!3

So in 2021, I regained every pound and then some that I lost in 2020
However, in retrospect, I'm looking back over this year to try to find a silver lining and I realized that though I did regain my weight, I have succeeded in making some good dietary changes.
1) I don't just go hog-wild on portion sizes anymore. I find that I am aware of how much something is calorie level and stick to smaller portions and less calorie dense options at restaurants and such. I may still be poor at guessing the total calorie count because I stink at judging a portion size, but I'm going for single hamburgers without cheese instead of doubles, when I do get fries, I get a small instead of a large - or even go for a hamburger happy meal at McDonald's for the 100 calorie kids size fry instead of a regular small, and go for a mini frosty or a mini blizzard when I crave ice cream or even just a smaller cone instead of sundae.
2) I'm automatically looking for healthier, lower calories options, such as routinely going for a side salad with a lower calorie dressing instead of french fries, shoot for sauted or grilled or steamed veggies instead of rice or potato with my steak, go for a smaller, leaner steak than a larger, fattier one, and go for grilled chicken instead of breaded. I find myself going for lower calorie snacks instead of candy bars or chips or looking for much smaller options, and I prefer to use skim milk or unsweetened almond milk instead of coffee creamer.
3) I don't drink my calories. I've gotten myself trained to drink unsweet tea or go for alternate sweeteners for my drinks, using 0 or very low calorie drinks instead of higher sugar options. I'm even to the point where I don't like the regular versions - for example: I have found I don't like regular Dr. Pepper anymore; I'm much rather have the diet version!
So while yes, I'm back to eating too much again, I'm not eating quite a much as I was before I starting losing weight and the quality of those calories that I am taking in is much better than before.
I suppose I can call that a win, right?6 -
It is a journey, @bmeadows380 ... sometimes it is a very hilly journey. But if we are learning, and here, we are still on the journey. So there is an accomplishment there for sure!2

You can't win the game when you're not in it! 🤷🏻♂️
So being in the game is a **kitten** BIG deal! 👍
Maybe not quite half the game (I wish, right?😹) but you have to at least buy a ticket in order to play!3 -
I had a NSV today. Even though I’m only down like 6-8 lbs since mid December..somehow through my diet break I managed to lose inches so I finally fit into my next pair of “goal” jeans! I then tried on the rest of my old “skinny” clothes left in my bag and low-and-behold..everything fits! 😃6

Well it’s kind of a scale victory but.... I got weighed at the doctor’s office yesterday. I weighed exactly the same as I did in May. But yesterday I was wearing heavier clothes, a sweater and full shoes rather than T-shirt and sandals. So buck nekkid I’m probably down about two pounds? The victory part is having maintained a stable weight over the holidays and 8 months. A totally new experience for me 🤩🥳. Maybe I have some maintenance basics figured out? Time to work harder this year.6

That is really good that you have maintained….had it not been for the fiasco of December, I would have maintained for a year….but now I am back at it and trying to go full steam ahead!….4 -
Congrats, Yooly. That is a major non-non-scale victory that I hope to emulate some day.3
-
Yep, congrats to Joone! Ain't it an awesome feeling!
As for you, Yooly, that's no mean feat! Maintenance still scares me....
And well done to you too, Connie, for hauling yourself back into the saddle!
I have faith in our little kick-*kitten* group!3 -
Well I’m not totally in maintenance. I’m still about 25 lbs. short of goal. However I have maintained my 85lb loss for almost a year which I’ve never been able to do. And it’s been fairly easy because I planned and logged daily. When I get my physical issues resolved, I hope to get back to actively losing.6

Went to my "family" doctor today (though she doesn't feel like one), because my ears are still a bit funny since January's run in with covid. While I was waiting, I noticed a poster for a weight management clinic - including nutritionist, CBD, etc.
Before I left her office I asked her about the Weight Management Clinic - mentioned losing weight (I'm 90 pounds lighter than last time I saw her, but she didn't notice...lol) and then gaining a bit and thinking that maintenance will be the toughest part of the whole journey.
She looked at me and said that she didn't think I would qualify!!!!!!!!
Turns out I did. My BMI is almost 27. It had to be over 25. But....
WOW! That is the kind of brush off I would like to experience more often!4 -
Yay, Skinny Minnie, that's awesome! We can be maintenance buddies together - my BMI is just under 27 too...4
-
Oh to be 5 inches taller! 🥺4
-
Yeah... the inch thing!2

I've just realized that the DEXA scans did not consider my last 0.25 cm and have me down as 172c, instead of my "actual" 172.25 that was measured by them! I vehemently object to this "shortening"!!!!2
-
Hey I’ve lost nearly 2” in height from my 20s! I tried arguing with the medical staff but no luck. I keep getting shorter which causes my BMI to go up. Soooo unfair.3
