Checking in
I met with my Dr and he told me that he has operated on backs that were much better than mine. Sadness. He wants aN MRI next week then I meet with him on the 31st again. I am hoping my friend who is a physical therapist can come with me to ask more questions and understand more clearly what he is saying.
I am dog sitting for this friend and I was hoping that a large cucumber and humus would be enough for my dinner last night. It was until I opened her cabinet with the Pepperidge Farm goldfish. Fat girl thinking took over and even though I had a fleeting thought of spredding them out over the next few days, I went through the bag. Done, today is a new day and I am ready to commit to my healthy eating and exercise. I liked walking with her dog, she is a black and white little mixed breed about 14 pounds.
One of my character flaws is an all or nothing attitude, I had been really good since June 27th. Moderation is an important mind set to have but I simply do better if there are no temptations
I hope everyone has a beautiful Fall day!2 -
@Cafelelia I have never suffered from white coat syndrome. In fact I went to a dermatologist one time for minor surgery and my BP was 110/70 which really surprised her. Over the last two years my BP has crept up little by little. We'll see if the Aleve was the cause since I stopped it yesterday. I just wish the Tylenol would work as well on my back/shoulder pain which is new too. Being over 65 is key too but there's no cure for aging!
@Mrsbell8well That trestle looks a little scary for a bike ride - did you try to use tunnel vision focusing only straight ahead? That's the only way I could cross it but then I'd miss out on the beautiful scenery. Great job knocking that off your bucket list.3 -

Happy Friday Everyone!!
Well.... my dad left this morning to pheasant hunt near the Canadian border with a couple of his buddies. Hubby gets home tomorrow and my dad will be back Tuesday. I have just this one last day of being on my own. Went to my yoga class this morning and am spending this afternoon resting, re-setting my brain, and putting a plan together to reach my goal weight. My dad usually eats very late but when he's here visiting I try to get dinner on the table a little earlier than he would probably like but much later than I'm used to eating. I make meals using a lot more processed foods to shorten the cooking time and my body is rebelling. Also, I end up going to bed a lot later than usual when he is here so my routine is out of whack which happens every time he visits so I know to expect it. The guys will be fly fishing next week each afternoon so late dinners will continue but its only for a short time so I'll get through it and get back on track. I'm thinking a healthy, light snack in the afternoon may be the way to go so I don't do a deep dive into the tortilla chip bag like I did last night!
Spent some time catching up on posts. So much great stuff and I'm loving all the interaction and support in our team!
@Cafelelia Thank you for the post re Dr. Melissa. I took the quiz and am getting a lot of good information from her. I'm so glad you stepped up as captain!! Oh, and I think my goal weight will be 160 but I'll re-evaluate once I get there.
@lennoncpa Sunny is adorable!!
Happy birthday @mrsbell8well! Congrats on your bike ride and scratching an item off your bucket list!!
@amytriesww and @twyla77 you gals and your stairs LOL. I'm a clutz so am pretty careful on stairs!3 -

It is! I'm in the room with the youngest kids, probably around 18 months to around 4 years old. They do have their moments. Last night it seemed everyone had a meltdown. One of the 2 year olds had several meltdowns.😥4 -

Here is my positive response to a post in fitness and exercise where someone was upset about always coming in last at a race or other fitness related things. I thought maybe someone here could also use some positive words. I know I always can.
I understand the coming in last is frustrating. It is for me too. I'm involved in a local community walking group. We met at a park tonight and at first I was keeping up with them but couldn't keep that pace up so I fell behind.
The group is run by a dietitian and she tries to make sure that people don't fall too far behind. She walked with me for the last part of the walk. By the time we got to the meeting spot everyone else was already there waiting for us.
I've thought before and again tonight that I'm the slowest one and am just holding people back and should probably stop going. The dietitian and the others in the group assure me that it doesn't matter if I'm the slowest, I'm there for the same reason they are: to get healthy. I do my best to try and remember that when I'm at this group or at the gym.
I may not be the fastest or the best but I'm trying to get it in my head that the only person I should be comparing myself to is ME. If I'm better than I was last year, last week or yesterday, that is a victory. Hard for me to remember but I'm working on it.
I say keep on doing your races, etc. Compare yourself only to your last race, not to the other people in it. Your story, health, etc is different than theirs and if you're last, so what? (I know it's hard to get out of our heads, it's a struggle for me too) You're doing something good for your health.
Keep up the good work!7 -
I see people sometimes like, inspire or hug, etc on posts. Is there a way to see who the person is that is doing the liking, etc?1

Up a little but I had a big loss last week so I expected some rebound. I had a DEXA scan done today and was happy with the results. On a BMI chart I am still overweight but according to the scan and my body fat % I'm in a healthy range. I'm going to focus more on building muscle, protein macros and reducing sugar and just see where it takes me.5 -

@pacsnc6 yes I did use tunnel vision. At first I followed Molly’s T-shirt then she got farther away. It was very high up. I start getting panic attacks but I tried to breathe and calm myself down. I just wanted to get off my bike but that scared me too. The 36 trestles before this we’re not a problem so it took me by surprise. After that Molly slowed down so I could focus on her. Mind over matter. We just keep going.
@nstephenson01 i know how much you want to hit that goal. You can do it. During my year I had to stay super focused and determined. I feel like I went “inward”. I didn’t participate like normal times. Sometimes I had to eat dinner earlier than others. For one year my priority was “me” and it worked. All my decisions were built around taking care of my needs. Sleep, exercise and nutrition. No one will care about us as much as we will. It’s up to us to take care of us. For me it was and still is about my health. Not just a number on a scale. But that scale number was my chosen tool to let me know I have hit my goal. It was a long year but it went by fast.
This is our time ladies. I can tell you from 63 years of experience if you don’t do it now...1 year from now you will still be “trying”. There will always be a holiday, anniversary, wedding etc.
I daily look in the mirror and marvel how skinny I am. I am so proud! And above all I am so incredibly healthy.
When I was riding the creeper I thought “this is it! I am living the life of my dreams”
My affirmation was “I am slender, toned, radiant and full of energy “. I said this daily even when I began at my highest weight of 202. Now at 142 maintenance give or take a few pounds, I am slender, toned, radiant and full of energy.
My life feels technicolor now compared to 1 year of black and white. But it was just a little year and so worth it. That doesn’t mean I was deprived you all saw my celebration pictures of amazing meals. But sugar, alcohol, salty, high fat...did not make many appearances that year.
You do what you have to do.
How much do you want it? Where will you be 1 year from now? What will you weigh January 1st! November 1st? Next week?
You all have the power to take control of your lives and make those choices each and every day.
It feels so good to succeed and frustrating not to succeed. Fortunately we have the power to make that choice now for ourselves.
You can do it!3 -
@lennoncpa - Nice maintaining and great to see that your weekend away did not cause any major gain!!
@Barbb1557 - So sorry about your back and keep us posted. I think it is a great idea to bring your PT friend along for the next visit. Don’t get me started on Goldfish crackers. I do not keep certain flavours in the house anymore because it is just too tempting!
@pacnc6 - Oh I am just starting to understand there is no cure for aging! Hope that the Tylenol works better for you. I was taking a lot of Aleve for my injury, but given how long the recovery is, I had to taper off doses. After some research, I started using a turmeric supplement called Meriva SF by Thorne. I also add in a daily collagen powder. It works remarkably well for me, which was nice surprise.
@nstephenson01 - Being off routine is difficult and you will get back to your soon. It is so nice to visit with your dad. Will you be cooking the pheasant and the fish that they catch? I am glad that you like Dr. Melissa. She has such a calme and soothing manner in her videos.
@hope002 - Nice maintain and I hope that all is well with you!
@tryingagain5 - Good day yesterday. Unlike your home page, you cannot see who is reacting to your posts here. I loved your post about your walking group. I am a long time runner, and especially as I get older, I am not a fast runner. I totally get being last or at the back of the pack, but you are right that you have to measure against yourself. That’s why there is the “PB” (personal best) for races! And to put some perspective on things, I have an injury (sciatica) which started in November 2018 due to a lot of driving at that time, not running. I have been in PT since January, recovered well, but reinjured in July and am now on the road to recovery again with regular physio. I love racing and have done many 5kms, 10kms and a few half marathons. My last race was a half marathon in June 2018 and I simply cannot plan the next one because I don’t know when I will be cleared to do it. So that person finishing last in his/her race is doing way better than me. I would love to trade places right now, and be finishing a race in last place!
@KatAdele - What a fantastic NSV! You scan shows that there are many metrics relating to our health and fitness, and it is not just the number on the scale.
@Zumba_Luvah - Congratulations, you are back in onderland! Way to go!
@mrsbell8well - Thank you for the encouragement!! You are an inspiration!

Ate like a jerk yesterday and am up to 169.8 this morning 😱 This nonsense stops today. Just for today, I will:
Pre-log and eat as planned. No off plan snacking!
Take the dogs for a walk even though its cold
Go to the Farmer’s market and stock up on healthy veggies
Make a list of chores for the day and complete them
Cook my husband one of his favorite dinners to celebrate him coming home but not overeat
One day at a time Ladies!!
Wonderful post @tryingagain5! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Great advice as always @mrsbell8well! ❤️5 -
Friday check in
Food - logged & under, but too many of my mother’s cookies
Water - 2 l
Exercise - rest day
Yesterday was not a good day. I had 4 hours of driving to pick up my mom for the Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of running around and younger son was super cranky in the evening. My mom brought lovely cookies for us, but I had about 3 or 4 too many, and they ended up being my lunch! Today is a new day and am just going to stay focused on my plan. We have supper out tonight, but it is our favorite bistro, which has lots of healthy choices.
Hope that everyone has a great weekend!4 -

So, my drama continues into October. Severe stomach pain sent me to the emergency room weds. I’m now back home, having had emergency surgery to remove my right Fallopian tube and ovary. It twisted on itself and was “dead” by the time the surgeon opened me up. On pain meds now, feeling shaky and nauseous, head and body aching, and seem to have 5 openings patched up on my stomach, which I won’t be able to view until the bandages need to come off.6 -

Checking in
I was in much better control yesterday, I just returned from a walk with the dog, I count the steps, but feel like I need to subtract 10 minutes from the time due to many many stops to 'smell the roses.' This is at least twice as far as I have ever walked her dog. It is an example of how far I have come, only comparing myself to myself and previous walks. I have a chart I started that logs time and steps, I always want to log either more steps or a faster time for the walk. I am feeling very thankful for the prednisone which allowed a pain free walk, Devine!
Last night I was bargaining with myself about eating a cucumber and humus then tomorrow I would buy pretzels. Today I will make the same bargain and hopefully for every day to come.
@amytriesww Great pep talk!
@Mrsbell8well I am so impressed with what you have accomplished, your journeys inspire me!
Have a great weekend everyone!

@Cafelelia I love cookies! What kind did she make?
@nstephenson01 you can do it!
This morning I ran 50 minutes with a 10 minute warmup/cool down. I have started my training for the turkey trot. I am planning to place in the top 3. I was very happy with my run since I was still recovering from the creeper and the winery yesterday. Everyday has been so much fun. We played cribbage and rummy with a bottle of wine, a picnic we packed and a view of a gorgeous creek.
We are packed and ready for home. We stopped at their local farmers market. Car is packed to brim with 6 different types of potatoes, Russian kale, chard, mustard greens, heirloom cowpeas, heirloom no spray apples, sweet potatoes, bean sprouts, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, jujube an Asian fruit, 3 types of lettuce, baby currant tomatoes and I think that’s it. I feel so rich. Can’t wait to go home and start cooking. Probably greens, cow peas and cornbread for dinner.3 -
@nstephenson01 so glad to hear your husband is coming home!!
While you seem to have a busy day today, I hope you can add to your list some well deserved “welcome home” kisses!4 -
@julie8468 how frightening. I’m glad your on the other side of that. Sending prayers. Hope you heal quickly.

I did it again, came home from work and fell fast asleep. Hopefully I’ll start to get more energy soon being that I finished radiation on Thursday! 30/30 done! Honestly that was one of the most difficult things I have ever endured. I have some pretty severe burns and it literally hurts to move. I’m looking forward to getting back on track!6 -
Oh we'll the Tylenol is not working. I started taking one Advil each morning several months ago and was pretty much pain free. Taking 2 Tylenol three times a day is just not cutting it. The doctor wrote me a script for a pain gel but it needs a prior authorization for insurance so still waiting on that. Hope to get it Monday. My back hurts when I mean back in a chair -- definitely no relaxing on the horizon for now.5

Saturday 10/12 check in
Food: logged but over, unplanned. I did have a birthday party this afternoon. I did fairly well until I ate a cookie and birthday cake. Then ate some more when I got home. Oops.🙄 Weekends are hard for me when I'm out of my normal weekly routine. If I didn't have the cookie and cake, I would have been on track.
Although, on a good note: I tried on a light jacket I found in my closet, (not sure how long it's been in there). It fit!! Not only did it fit, it fit over a thick hoodie and I still had some room. Yay!! Made me feel great.😊
Exercise: 30 minutes bodyweight exercises at home

Too bad we can't see who is reacting to our posts. Thank you for answering the question.
Glad you enjoyed my post. Hopefully it will inspire others. It's something I need to keep on reading as a reminder to myself.
Keep up with your therapy and do any of the homework they give you. I know people who had a knee replacement and only did the therapy at the PT's office but didn't do the homework and still have problems. I've had physical therapy for various things and if I didn't do the homework I wouldn't be able to do the things I do now.
You have a good perspective on it too.
Hopefully you'll be able to get back to running again soon!5 -
@nstephenson01
Thank you, I'm glad you liked my post. I hope it inspires others. I'm going to read it often as a reminder for myself.
I like your post about "just for today, I will"
You're right it is definitely one day at a time. One day will be great, one day not so much. Yesterday I planned on being over my goal. That wasn't in my plan for today. However, I did go over at a birthday party. Tomorrow I need to keep myself in check.
We can do it!!4
