If struggled for years to lose weight but need to just get it done this time by sticking to it no matter how many bumps in the road I have and no matter how long it takes i feel determined to get to goal this time!
I joined this challenge last month and found it helped keep me accountable although I wasn't as active the group as I should have been.
Goals for this month are be more active in group, drink more and although it's Christmas this month I'd like to lose at least 8lb.
Good luck to everyone
@smallhippo1 That's an ambitious and attainable goal! It's going to feel great WHEN you achieve it! Take it one day at a time and you will be there in no time!!1 -
Hi guys! I decided to join this group because I need some motivation. At my highest I have ever been and ready to lose the weight. I know it will take a few months but accountability and competition are great motivators!
I gained weight in 2015 then got pregnant 2016. Beginning of this year I had a work injury and gained weight from meds and stress.
I am turning 40 next year and ready to not hid behind my kids for pictures lol! My Goal this week is I want to work out 3 times a week and 10000 steps a day. I would like to limit my sweets to one cheat day a week.
Good luck to all of you and I would love to support all of you!
@sdgirl27 Welcome! I know how you feel about the pictures, what made me decide to lose the weight was a picture that my mom took of me holding my newborn niece and all I saw was a blob holding a baby and that was it. I wasn't going to be that person anymore.
Your goals are great, exercise will definitely improve your overall health and help you get to your goals,, but don't be afraid to ease into it, start small and work your way into bigger and better as you get more adapted to the increased activity, something I learned the hard way!
Once again, welcome!1 -
Hi Everyone,
I am Mauli pronounced as Mollly. I am 44 and did lose my goal weight as I was doing personal training. Then later I gained 5 lbs and trying to get that off. I am currently on intermittent fasting from 10.30 to 5.30. It used to be 10 to 6 but PT changed it to 7 hours window. I like to do this on my own since my PT has held my hand for a year on helping me lose weight and inches. And now it's time I like to do it on my own and be disciplined to reach my goal or more.
@mss9675 Welcome Mauli, I had a Personal Trainer who changed my life. She got me into weightlifting and Keto and while I don't have her anymore, I have a weightlifting coach now as I've become a competitive weightlifter, I look back at the day I made that split second decision to give her a try and it's probably because of her that I've come so far. You got this, you can finish the job on your own! Intermittent fasting is a great tool to help, I practice ADF (alternate day fasting) now, but I started with 16:8 and then went to OMAD (one meal a day) and now I eat every other day and really like the freedom it gives me. Granted it's been 2 years in the making for my fasting and may not be for everyone, but there are a lot of great benefits out of fasting at least 16 hours a day.
Welcome and we're here to support you! You got this!1 -

Oops. The PW was last Sunday, the CW is today- and my weigh in day is Sunday. So maybe I should have said today’s weight was my sw for the challenge ? As in week 0 and NEXT Sunday is end of wk 1? Total newbie here so ya, think I did mine wrong. Any advice happily accepted.
@SammyDee2015 Your starting weight is the one you posted in the starting weights thread, your week 1 weigh in will be Sunday Dec 1 if you were a Sunday weigher, your weights should be 1 week apart each week, on whatever day it was that you chose to weigh in. For example, for a Sunday weigh in, Week 0 (or starting weight) would have been Nov 24th and Week 1's loss would have been Sunday Dec 1. does that make sense?1 -

I have lost up to 70 pounds but have regained 10 pounds during a recomposition maintenance phase. I always have trouble during that time. I do much better with structure! That is why I need to join this group!! My preferred exercise is Russian kettle bell swings. I started out weightlifting but it is much easier to transport my kettle bell from state to state. In Arizona I like to hike the mountains and ride my eBike. When I am in the losing mode my preferred diet is keto. Otherwise calories in calories out. I would love to get a recipe for a bread alternative for the keto diet. I think I remember that Ashley is on that type of food program.
Can’t wait to get to know everybody!
I do have a question about posting our weight. I weighed in on Saturday and posted that as my starting weight. Do I need to re-post on here?
@fanncy0626 Welcome Mary! You've done an incredible job and there is nothing to be upset over during a recomp phase, been through several myself. I live on Keto, build muscle on keto (and more specifically Carnivore when I'm focused on recomp and not weight loss) but I have no desire to eat carbs, they make me feel like crap and I'm unwilling to feel that way any longer.
I will dig through my arsenal of recipes, if you have seen anything from keto connect, they have some bread recipes, and there is a guy that has a great youtube channel where he tests keto recipes and he did a series on bread, I will go back and see what he liked the best out of the recipes that he's tested.
https://youtu.be/rFx8b0qZBwM is that video on the bread he did, he is really entertaining, and the 2 recipes that he really likes https://lowcarbediem.com/low-carb-soul-bread-recipes/ and this one https://www.ketoconnect.net/best-keto-bread/ and what he did was add some rapid rise yeast (which won't rise without sugar and he says that, but it gives the bread the yeast flavor we're used to). I really love that guys you tube channel, he's really entertaining and pits recipes against each other to test and see who has the best and it's fun to watch, highly recommend that channel if anyone is interested in low carb recipes.0 -

I’ve been having a huge problem with my weight for the last few months. I’m determined to turn over a new leaf. I joined a gym and hired a trainer, met with her today and I feel good. December 1st, a new beginning.
December Goals
Gym 4x week
Loose 10lbs
Max 1400 calories
Best to everyone!
@KT4everFree Sometimes it's hard to start, but starting is the only way to finish! I think that having a partner is a great way to start, and actually what was the catalyst for me. Had a great trainer in the beginning and she changed my life, helped me to find a diet that works and helped me to find a reason to keep going, she got me into weightlifting and I kept going on weightloss, long after I was actually happy with my progress because I wanted to compete at a lower weight, so a personal trainer can be a GREAT tool to use.

CindyJNC1963 wrote: »My name is Cindy, I'm 57 and I've been a member of this group since 11/2018 (I joined MFP 10/2018). I have been overweight off and on since college. I have tried many diets (Jenny Craig, Nutri-system, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, just plain old dieting, etc). I would take the weight off but it would eventually return. I was prompted to make a permanent change in my life after making a business trip last October. I was 273 lbs, the biggest I had ever been in my life. I had not flown in a plane since I was a child so I was already scared to death. That was compounded when I was seated next to a mean old woman who rudely asked to be seated in another seat because I was too big. I had to get a seat belt extender and I didn't even know what that was....it was a small plane and I barely fit through the aisles....it was the stuff of nightmares. This isn't mentioning the walking through Charlotte Douglas airport which seemed to be about a mile long. When we got to the destination it was a small coastal town where you had to walk everywhere. Some of my co-workers wouldn't wait for me so I ended up lagging way behind everyone else (one person kindly did wait on me). On the plane trip back, I decided that I would NEVER face that humiliation again so I made an appointment the next day to see a weight loss specialist. She recommended MFP and the rest is history. I still need to lose about 39 lbs but I feel sooooo much better. It's gotten a lot harder to lose weight but if I am only losing a couple of pounds a month that is ok.
One thing I told myself from the beginning is that this isn't a "diet". This is a lifestyle change. I completely changed how I eat. I went from fast food, high fat, high carb, processed sugar overload to a simple low carb, lean protein, high fiber diet. I try to walk 4 to 5 miles a day. This is my life now. The most important thing is that I journal every single day. It keeps me from going overboard on the days I'm really hungry. For the first time in my life I have found something that works and this is something that is permanent.
This is a great group of people here.....everyone is so supportive. Posting here has kept me going thru the tough times.
@CindyJNC1963 Welcome back, you've done such an amazing job and so inspirational! You will be at your goal in no time!!0 -

@AB0215 thank you for the support. Im waiting for the dreaded plateau i get in week 2 hopefully ive learned over the years how to deal with it
@RetroJoe28 I've been at real plateaus several times over the past 2 or so years, like 6 months at a time, you generally aren't in a real plateau until after 4 weeks at the same weight, and one of the reasons why weight loss is so weird and inconsistent is because of water. Your body tends to use water as a placeholder for fat. You burn fat and your body uses water to fill that place because it's sure that you're going to fill that spot back up with fat so it's not ready to shrink it and believe that it's really empty, so you may be losing fat but not weight and one thing that's important and helpful to do is drink EXTRA water, it helps to encourage your body to flush the water it's retaining. So if you start slowing down despite doing everything right, try drinking more water. And if you've been there for 4 or more weeks, then start looking at making some changes, maybe trying different foods, different diet choice, etc or even just lowing your intake a bit, or increasing activity slowly, those types of things, or even adding in some intermittent fasting--that's the one that really helped me the most.0 -
Okay, now that I'm home and getting back into my routine, phew, traveling is hard.
I'd like to officially welcome everyone to the December Challenge!!
Some things to think about, while this is a "challenge" we are really here to support one another. One of the things that I've found over the years of this challenge is that not gong through this process alone is really helpful. We all face ups and downs and I think that being able to visualize that has really helped me to get to my goals and ultimately beyond those goals. I share when I'm doing well and when I'm not, because the reality is, we will all have those points and we are able to overcome them!! I encourage you to do the same (to your level of sharing comfort of course) because you'd be surprised, however you're feeling, you're not alone. And believe me, sometimes a little encouragement goes a long way. And if you have a bad week, you have a bad week, you're not letting anyone down, we are all there at one point, I've been there SEVERAL times over my journey!!
And as always, if you have questions or want ideas....ask! We're a community! We will succeed, together!2 -

That's awesome. I tried 20:4 but due to my work schedule I couldn't do that so I am doing 7 hr window.0 -
@AB0215 - thanks for the bread information! I go mostly carnivore on Keto. My husband eats Keto with me and needs some bread options. Carbs make me feel horrible. Keto bread would work for both of us.1

December: Week #1
Original starting weight: 273
PW: 175.8
CW: 176
I had a huge dinner last night so I am ok with this weight...I was afraid it would be worse.
I saw my weight loss physician today and she was really pleased with my results. I had hoped to be past the 100 lb loss mark today when I saw her....but that plateau through August and September kind of did me in. I'm just glad I'm back to losing again. I should be there in 3 months when I see her again.1 -
Daily Post: December 1st
Track: Yes
Calories under goal: No, over
Exercise: 10,402 steps
At least I got my walking in yesterday. I fixed a huge dinner last night...at least it was healthy though. Grilled cod, zucchini and yellow squash plus stuffed clam (not quite so healthy, but delicious).
I might be over with calories again today. My work Holiday Party was at lunch today. I stayed pretty much with vegetables and turkey...but I did have a bit of sweet potatoes (not realizing that they had been loaded with brown sugar). Thank goodness I only got about 1/2 cup of the sweet potatoes. Otherwise I would have been in deep trouble....they were really, really good. No dessert, bread or mashed potatoes though...so I was partially good.

@AB0215 - When do we post our next weight and where?
@mss9675 You had put down Monday for your weigh ins so technically that was today and the weigh ins just go right here with the rest of the team discussion and I'll enter them into the spreadsheet. Since you had down Monday for your weigh in day, each week on Monday you'd post that here.
And if you didn't weigh today, you can just weigh tomorrow and then get back on schedule next week.0 -

@fanncy0626 My husband is the same way, just can't let go of those past things so I find keto alternatives to make for him.1 -
