That’s an amazing photo. I love that they masked the cat and that the cat left it on. You’re right that the guy should have known you don’t work with with dogs. I got 2 of our cats from a group called CLAWS. How’s that for an appropriate name? It stood for Cats Lost And Wanting Shelter. The animal control officer ran it out of her home for several years. It eventually became too much and she closed it after adopting out the last of the cats.

Pam, would cutting back on salt help with the fluid retention? Maybe some hand exercises before bed would help to minimizing the fluid build up in your fingers.

Helene, my doctor didn’t mention cutting back on salt. I don’t retain fluid anywhere else, so I don’t think that is a problem for me in general. The way he described it, it’s more of a valve problem that allows fluid to pool in my fingers when they are still for long periods of time, such as while I’m sleeping. The only remedy is to move them again, which is where the pain comes in, but once I’ve flexed and straightened them a few times, the pain goes away. I’ve noticed a similar issue when I walk for exercise. If I walk with my arms down, they get very stiff and feel swollen. I try to walk with my elbows bent, but usually forget after awhile u til my fingers start hurting. DH says he notices the same thing with walking in his hands, but he doesn’t get it at night (yet).

Isn't it amazing what can go wrong with us that we didn't even know was a thing?

I started researching the bumps that have developed on my left palm and quit when I decided I didn't really want to know any more. When it feels safe I'll head to the hand surgeon.

I have a couple of bumps inside my mouth. There are un the inside where my lips are. I’ve had them forever and they don’t hurt. I just know they are there if I run my tongue over them. The hygienist always checks my mouth and neck for any lumps or bumps. I don’t think she ever noticed these and I never mentioned them. When I saw the new hygienist, I thought I should ask her about them. She check and said they are salivary glands and perfectly normal. It was a relief to hear they were nothing.

Well, I've apparently emptied the local stores of Stewart's diet root beer and made a dent on Amazon.

Now we're going to have a diet root beer experiment. I went on Amazon and order three brands I never heard of - Fitz's, Boylan's, and Hank's. I guess that's dangerous in a way. What if I LOVE one of them and can never get it again? LOL! I'm such a worrywart.

Since I got serious about my steps a couple of weeks ago, I’ve lost one and a half pounds of my quarantine five pounds. I’ve gone back to daily weighing and food logging. I guess one good habit begets others.

DH and I dined inside a restaurant tonight for the first time in almost 6 months. I felt pretty comfortable about it. It’s a casual burger and sports bar. We wore masks until we were at our table and put them on again before we left. It’s the kind of place where you fill out a paper menu with your selections, then hand it to the cashier who enters the order into the computer. Someone brought the food to us and everything was packaged for single use. All staff wore masks and gloves. The booths all had plexiglass dividers separating them. The closest table was at least 6 feet away. The restaurant was not crowded but there were more people than I thought there might be. I think because it is primarily a sports bar, there were several tables of people who were there to watch the games on the TVs that lined the room, as well as a few families. It was a good way to ease back into dining out.

I’ve eaten out a few times so far. All have been on outdoor patios with good social distancing. I feel safest doing that. Pam’s experience seems like a good way to ease back in. We want to see our favorite restaurants survive so anything we can do to keep them in business is good. We’ve done more takeout these last six months than we have in years.

First sample in my sampling of "other" diet root beers:

    Dad's

Poured in the sink. I had to have had a bad bottle. They couldn't deliberately make something that tastes that bad!

I wish you had a Culver’s restaurant near you. It’s a Wisconsin chain that makes everything fresh when you order it. They have the best diet root beer I’ve ever tasted. Too bad they don’t bottle it. The closest location to you is Wake Forest, NC and a few places in OH. They’re gradually moving northward.

I did a little more research. Root beer is Craig Culver’s soda. What they serve is his personal recipe. They send the syrup to the restaurants and that’s the only place to buy it. Now that’s a guy devoted to his root beer.

Last Thursday I had an unbelievable work deadline thrust upon me. Worst I can recall in 40 years; totally ridiculous. I couldn't even start until they emailed me some things so I sat watching my email. I went off the rails with my food. Didn't get back on track until yesterday. And to think I used to be completely convinced my overeating wasn't stress related (yep, I believed that!)

The good news is I only gained a pound last week. Probably because the only "bad" food in this house is in snack size containers and I couldn't go to the stores. The only things that saved me from myself. If I could have gone to get ice cream......let's just say it wouldn't have been pretty.

Survivor would normally be already done filming seasons 41 and 42 but they haven't started so no survivor on the fall schedule.

I still have two seasons I've never watched so maybe I'll pull one of those out this fall.

Second sample in my sampling of "other" diet root beers (can we tell I'm bored):

    Hanks

Not bad! I'd say 4 stars (if Stewart's is 5 stars).

I could never handle root beet, Dr. Pepper, Coke or other cola friends. Now, diet Mountain Dew and Sprite are different matters.

I've dined out several times, and each time I felt safe inside because of the precautions.

I had my last follow up for the rotator cuff surgery yesterday. All is good except I was told that the healing would continue for another 3 months so I should expect some twinges at times.

I have started back exercising, and that includes using the weights and stretchy band thing for my arms. I'm debating just eating healthy versus weight loss. It seems regardless of what I do, I always fall within a certain pound range.

Eating healthy is a good goal. If you can up your exercise, you’ll probably do as well as dieting. Give it a try for a month and see if that approach works.

Eating healthy, Helene? I ate at the Outback yesterday and brought home a serving of its carrot cake. I love their carrot cake and one serving is big enough for two. The carrots in it make it healthy.

But eating a smaller portion at one sitting is also healthy. Having occasional treats that you love actually helps keep you on track. If you never let yourself have those treats, it can build up to a full on craving. For me, depriving myself by looking at any food is bad give food the power. I have the power to decide when and what portion size I’ll have works for me.

It’s wonderful that you made such a great recovery from your surgery.

I had a late afternoon follow up visit with my retina specialist this afternoon that took almost 2 hours. Afterward we went across the street to a location of one of our favorite restaurants and had dinner inside to wait out some of the rush hour traffic. Again, I felt pretty comfortable. The place was not at all crowded and everyone was wearing a mask except while eating. And we really enjoyed our dinner!

I'm wondering what my eye doctors are doing. Their waiting room is always standing room only and you're usually there for 4-6 hours. My next appointments are in December. Waiting in my car for 4-6 hours would not be pleasant (if that was what they decide to do). But eyes are super important.
