Food inspiration, or what's for supper?

Hoping the Southwest Airlines computer problems are over. We were delayed only two hours. Luckily!3

What's on the cover of the one you picked?
Nothing, but it is a pretty bright sky blue color.
Last night was supposed to be fajitas but I didn't want them. So I ended up marinating one of the 2 steaks I took out for them (I get steaks at Costco and then cut them in half to freeze) in teriyaki sauce, made some rice, and stir fried some veggies. Came out super good! I am going to do the same tonight with the other steak as I have rice and veggies left over.
The next few weeks I will be focusing on eating from my freezer as much as possible. I have way too much stuff in there taking up space.3 -
Made another batch of soup given the Madeleine's and chocolates and Costco snack runs. 2 kg mixed frozen veggies, 800g shrimps and clams (after everything was off the stove), 300g shiritake rice, 250g red onion, 6g oil, various powders for flavour (onion and veggie). Just over 6.5kg in total. Under 300Cal per kg!😝3

Your measurement system makes me smile, PAV!
I'm getting back into the groove now that I am home and away from the land of home baked bread
Of course I want to try a new system !
I'm thinking 2 standard small meals a day, 2 snacks and a "Main" meal - Just so I don't have to think too much????
+ breakfast (a slice of toast with peanut butter / clementines & tea) -300 calories
+ fruit snack -100 calories)
+ a treat snack -350 calories)
+ a varying "supper" -500 to 600 calories
+ yogurt with blueberries and nuts -250 calories
This gives me a reasonable calorie count per day - with some room for additions on special days and most important seems like it could be something I could live with forever.
Not sure if I can get away with adding the toast & peanut butter without losing it and eating the entire loaf of bread and jar of peanut butter in record time. But I managed it out east so I have my fingers crossed.2 -
Don't eat 300 Cal of grapes in one go.... ask me who I know who coild have done that while making soup. Soup had water too in that weight! It's a bit inaccurately counted for my taste but it's still under 2100 Cal for the pot! Premium plus cracker sleeves not included

Grapes add up toooo quickly!
Supper today will be chili (from the freezer) + 3 veggie dogs + 1 toasted slice of the wholegrain and protein bread I bought yesterday + 7 g butter (for toast and frying sliced veggie dog) + 1 tea with milk
608 calories / 49g protein / 13g fat
Calories fit and will be very satiating I think.2 -
Yesterday’s dinner at a small mom-n-pop Italian restaurant. Salad with pasta instead of croutons! Yum. And calamari fra diavlo in a spicy marinara with linguine. And the fresh bread. OMG. Luckily there was no lunch. I haven’t had this much pasta in years but it was worth it. I hope the scale at home agrees.3 -
I'd like to say that looks delicious, Yooly. But just can't get past those tentacles )
Similar supper today as yesterday - brown beans + 3 veggie dogs + 1 toasted slice of the wholegrain and protein bread + 7 g butter (for toast and frying sliced veggie dog) + sauteed cabbage and some raw turnip (found one poor slightly shrivelled baby in the fridge hiding behind the veggie bin - looks just about at the end of its rope ).3 -
But the tentacles are the best part! If you’re not a vegetarian of course. 😛
Today at my sister’s we’re having pizza for lunch and Chinese for dinner. Both of which are tasty and wonderful but after a week of no menu control ...... I do try to keep portions small. And we’ll be celebrating hubby’s 🎂🎉birthday on Monday.
So far the pants still fit. The truth will be on the scale Wednesday morning. 😱2 -
The truth will take a few more days past Wednesday TBH.
Maybe it is trick photography? But the pasta did not look to be a HUGE amount... and the tentacles and rings look awesome enough that I am getting the urge to finally use that pack of squid that is sitting in the freezer downstairs (maybe over-sitting).
pizza + chinese would actually concern me more? not sure if I'm making sense!1 -
pizza + chinese ... oh my. Sounds dangerously delicious.

There was a cheesecake birthday cake for hubby. Oy! Lunch was leftover wonton soup. Dinner is salmon and not sure what else.
We’ll be heading home tomorrow morning. Back to the routine foods. Strangely I have missed my salads this week.2 -
Routine is kinda nice - very reassuring0

Slowly trying to figure things out here and ALWAYS open to suggestions and ideas! Some things I am looking at:
1) More interesting but easy vegetable sides and meals. I did find a crispy garlic green bean stir fry side yesterday that I really want to try.
2) Reduce meat portion vs everything else on my plate. Especially fatty meats which seem to cause me tummy issues.
3) Ideas for lunches that are not boring. Thinking of going back to some limited meal prep like prepping raw veggies and greens, making a batch of rice, having precooked proteins. Stuff that I can make into simple and fast lunches. One of my recent favorites I did was a simple bowl with greens, microgreens, tomatoes, feta, and olives with balsamic vinaigrette with baked falafel. I also love things like egg rice (aka rice with 2 fried eggs on it topped with soy sauce, green onions, and sesame oil) but would need some produce to go with it.
4) EASY and FAST meals in general! If I can make something in like 15 mins, then I am less likely to order in on a rough day.1 -
I was reading and at first wondering about how your "bowls" were working - because they sounded wonderful. Glad at least one was worthwhile.
I'm pretty lucky - I can happily eat the same thing for a few weeks before I get bored. Green Soup is a mainstay for me this week because my son has convinced me to avoid freezing soup in plastic containers....which basically means I can't freeze it....which means I have to eat Sunday's batch of soup this week. I think I can manage it before it is not quite so edible anymore and I don't mind eating the same thing everyday (but it is just Tuesday! lol)2 -
I've been more resistant than normal to eating my batch cooking.... hmmm1
-
Today was spent in airports eating granola and protein bars. And bad little pretzel snacks. Tomorrow I face the scale. Then it’s off to the grocery store for veggies and fruit.1
-
Home will feel so good!!!!
What's not to like about your batch cooking, PAV. Besides, resistance is futile

My main meal today is a falafel sandwich from a local shop, a calorie count killer for sure - but I'm running closer to mainenance for the moment so I have room. And later - some Green Soup2
-
In general I can eat the same thing for about 2-3 days before I just can't stomach it anymore. Which is why when I batch cook, I batch cook bits and pieces that I can throw together many different ways. Like rice. The possibilities are endless!
Trying to eat out of the freezer the next couple of weeks so I can make room for a trip to Costco and the Korean Market. Want to fill up with things I can use for fast meals, like the frozen falafel from Trader Joe's and the Teriyaki Chicken Meatballs from Costco. Proteins are always the hard part for me. Frozen and fresh veggies cook up super fast and pasta and rice last awhile if you make a big batch (and you can freeze).2 -
Laurie When my soup becomes green I try to avoid eating it.... Just saying that sounds a little bit questionable 🤔🤐🙀1
-
Tonight for dinner, white chicken chili dip with a carefully measure portion of tortilla chips, plus a green salad with salsa as a dressing, to fit the theme.
Lunch was a smoothie of Fage 2% Greek Yogurt, lemonade clear protein powder, ice cubs and a splash of vanilla extract.4 -
That smoothie sounds pretty amazing, Nicsflyingcircus!2
-
Supper today will be Asparagus/spinach/broccolli/sweet pea/pepper/string bean/split pea soup - that just happens to be quite green
And maybe some scrambled eggs drizzled in sriracha and sprinkled with crumbled feta cheese alongside roasted sweet potato for lunch - woohoo!
Made me think of rainbow meals, made me think of Bella. Hope you are okay out there, Bella. We miss you.3 -
Bella and Connie and Alexandra..... miss them too.1
-
Yes!
I remember them at different food times Alexandra everytime I am organized and have neat stacks in my freezer and Connie whenever I haphazardly toss my dinner components into a bowl - all squished up over and around each other. (sorry Connie!)2 -
And I hope splat Garfield has remained splat!3
-
Today's work lunch was a taco chicken bowl:
Costco Rotisserie pulled chicken breast, sauteed peppers and onions, spice lab Taco seasoning (so good), salsa, 2% Mexican cheese blend and sour cream.
Yum. Filling and calories friendly and delicious.2 -
Usual breakfast- small yogurt, fruit, 1 egg. Lunch salad, Chinese pot stickers (not fried). Dinner - big salad??
I’m trying to get back to better eating after a week of vacation. Although I didn’t return with extra weight, there’s another trip looming at the end of the month. Just trying to hold the line.....1
