Prepping chicken a la king for next week:

Cooked, diced chicken breast, mushrooms, green pepper, onion, garlic, a little butter and flour, a can of cream of mushroom soup, a cup of milk, and diced pimentos. Lots of black pepper. I split it into 8 servings, with about 20-21g protein each. Pair it with a packet of egg white noodles, gives me a nice 30+ g protein meal, especially at work, and it's so comforting and filling. One of the few meal preps I can eat 5 or 6 days in a row.

Our lodge is doing a spaghetti feed in Aug, peak heat season

I was thinking shaved ice cones, slurpies, cones - a panorama of cold stuff... and outdoor grilled hand helds (dogs, burgers, skewers) lost the debate… i just can't imagine hot spaghetti in potentially 100f weather.

Personally, I do like chilled 'hot' foods like leftover pizza, cold spaghetti, even soup - just can't suggest selling that to public as a fundraiser though, lol

Chana Masala here …. Bit too spicy; made a batch, so will only get hotter! Will have to yoghurt it down!
Mastered the chapatti making, but x4 was calorific 🥴

    - 200 kcals overall today & that is with exercise calories gobbled up too 🙄

Check out making "bread" with chana flour only :) Can't say it held out too well when I tried it… but it was definitely low Cal!!! AND… it has been years since my attempt and we ALL know that I probably didn't EXACTLY follow the recipe 🤣😂😆, so your results may be better!

Want to trade a couple of chapati or roti for MOAR bunnies and MOAR volume even?

You COULD serve the chana masala on cauliflower rice ~125 Cal for 500g which is a huge amount on your plate… and even throw in a 25g pack of soda crackers (~125 Cal) to push your food onto your fork!

AND…. don't forget to send me a portion of the chana masala so that I can test drive this rumour of "high heat"!!! 😅🤣 PS don't forget to send a chapati or two my way too 😋

Spaghetti feed mid August? mmmm….. OK! sure! makes perfect sense!

I think some people got suckered in by food cost considerations only!

mmmmm….. chicken a la king on the other hand — I think I like that idea but I'm currently occupied by red curry thoughts ;-)

    Was given some fresh onions…
    two eggs (103g)
    slice of habanero jack (17.6)
    46.8g of fresh onions
    0.7g lemon pepper
56.9g of enriched all purpose flour concoction baked and sliced at the local bakery
Oh and 15g of a strawberry, 25.6g pack of biscoff and 532ml of coffee while cooking… and 26.3g werther's original milk covered caramels (three of them) once done…

… will be rounding them to their nearest whole calories amount as soon as I finish logging them…

~663Cal down the hatch so far and only half a bunny!

Masala & chapattis in post PAV…. Yeah re cauliflower rice trade for the chaps next time ….
Even better idea would have not been to have so much charcuterie … with focaccia at lunch time 🤪

Some forward planning to be put in place here!

focaccia would be what would kill me there, let's face it.

I'm surprised actually that "reasonable" portions of charcuterie are NOT terrible. I don't do them THAT often anymore, but when I do, I tend to go for more intense flavour items because of my habit of eatting larger quantities of less intense flavour items!

Surprisingly I often (but not always by any stretch) successfully use fresh cucumbers or pickles (cornichons! or dill pickles—a couple of times olives believe or not) as the delivery vehicle… otherwise the delivery vehicle definitely adds substantially to the count!!!🤷‍♂️

Thickening to feel "fuller" or to make you eat more slowly???

    "reasonable" charcuterie portions 😂🤣😅

Chana Masala….oh my….it has been a long time!!! I used to love Chana Bhatura - Chana masala with a fried bread….oh….heaven…. Kids loved it when we kept the chana low heat. There was a local hole-in-the wall type Indian restaurant (though that word feels too big) in our neighbourhood and we would take our two very blond kids there to eat and they would entertain all of the Indian patrons with how they scoffed down Chana Bhatura.

Spaghetti in August…can't imagine…but then again I can't imagine heat quite yet either!

I think I stayed at/under maintenance calories today. Son and his girlfriend took myself and her mom out for Mother's Day. First time meeting her mom - thank goodness we clicked. We went to a local fish and chips place - at a waterfront park. A plate of fat greasy fries for me and a rum and raisin ice cream cone - because they actually had rum and raisin ice cream which I haven't seen in forever. It was such a pleasure to eat such silly food outside on the deck with them - the furry one hidden under the picnic bench where no pets were allowed. ( I honestly didn't see the sign until we left)…

Problematically good! Red curry often gets coconut milk to which I'm meah!

And my "half" red curry soup (1500g) was quite thick (cause it has lost some water too), and salty.

So I split it 50-50 to two containers, and made a can of no salt creamy Campbell soup (chicken), which I also split!

And added quite a bit of fresh green onion on one (26g)

Was not going to eat the full container for lunch....

    Was is the word!🤯

We are probably causing @Yoolypr some distress with all the "heavy" stuff 😳🤔

“We are probably causing @Yoolypr some distress with all the "heavy" stuff 😳🤔”

Nope - I’m good. No distress here. I’m just lazy and hot. 🥵

    IMG_1119.jpeg

The unfortunate result is eating calorific grab n go foods rather than cooking. And then I’m hungry and way over deficit.
But that’s summer in Texas and it doesn’t go away until November. AC is pumping 24/7. Got to get it under control!

Maybe PAVs fantastic COLD potato/cauliflower salad made with Greek yogurt??? I remember how well that worked for me a couple of summers ago. A pot of that - with other good stuff in it - in the fridge was my go to during a heat wave. Something about that combination of food made it feel SO SO SO cold - all the way down :)

Just had 350 Cal of 0% greek yogurt combined with peaches in juice.

Me too!!!! ;-) Come on Laurie! My more recent versions have strayed to no cauli… so help us out! :)

WAIT A SECOND… there is a 22-04-30 Potato salad that HAS cauliflower in it….

… was it similar to this? 1413g and 1059 Cal

HEY! This is a great idea for when the curry soup is done!

That's it, PAV! Okay - so it was 3 years ago :) But really. Time does fly! I remember it was the sweet pickles and pickled onion that gave it a big flavour boost.

Now that's interesting, and if you substitute out the butter for olive oil and/or reduce the quantities (or even reduce to zero, or even not adjust, hmmmm..., and maybe tofu for Laurie!🤔🤔🤔)

Remember Yooly.... reason Southern food is hot is so that your fever sweat after eating will help you cool down.… with air con I would freeze and want soup 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ but I guess the air con could make 28C into 20C but can't make 40C into 18!

    I digress, as usual!

Temp outside today is 102F (38.8C). Temp in the house with AC is 78F (25.5C) where we keep it in summer. So not soup weather in or out - at least for me. Maybe a nice bowl of yogurt with cereal and fruit?

I'm impressed can pull records 3yr back! Ty Pav, gives me the gist.

Yooly chilled yogurt stir in frozen fruit makes it semifrozen - my fav on hot days with frozen blueberries or mixed berries.

Those senate chefs are after your heart, PAV. Or at least Dubois was. Adding mashed potatoes to soup - sounds like a nice thick soup :)
I might try this for fun - without the ham hocks. I imagine they are mostly for the salty pork flavour? Mostly bone I think?
With all those beans I wouldn't bother with tofu - but maybe dice up one of the hot Italian veggie sausages - to add some excitement :)

Hamhocks for the smoke flavor. Yum, drooling!

  • PAV8888

Smoke and fat! Lots of fat in that soup as advertised. The veg sausage sounds like an inspired potential substitution. For calories the fat level would probably have to come down or else the quantity of soup eaten decreased.… but that's on an eye ball, have no idea of cals in hocks!

I thought I'm the only mash in soup guy

I got called out of work tonight, so instead of eating my chicken a la king over noodles like last night, I toasted a couple slices of keto 5 Seed bread and ate it like an open top sandwich. Basically fiber bombed myself (ig of fiber per slice). It was delicious, but we will see if I suffer regret later, lol

  • lauriekallis

Not too much fat without the hamhocks. Two tablespoons with 4 quarts of water and 2 pounds of beans. I'mma going to try it I think - before it gets tooooo warm up here.

Weird food combo I just ate, that was actually freaking delicious for no reason:

1/2 cup cottage cheese mixed with 1/2 bag quest loaded taco chips
