so... given that we don't even have an itinerary, gulp, revisiting our first elopement location would be good?

It's a long, strange story, but about four years ago I was asked to fly in to Calgary for the weekend to play tour guide for a day for (then) CGG, and take her to the Columbia Icefields and up the Banff Sulfur Mountain Gondola!

It was the first time we met as adults, though I am told that as six year olds she punched me in the arm because I annoyed her, and I pulled her hair in retaliation and lots of crying ensued with me ending firmly on top of the most hated list!

I took her on an unauthorized side trip to Lake Louise on our way to the icefields (picture below) and since we missed the gondola we got up at 6am the next day to go up as soon as they opened and still drive back to Canmore for the official 10:30 am departure.

Then lunch in Calgary (remember the favourite bbq place i mentioned next to the hotel) and at 14:00 I was dropped off at the airport.

So maybe revisit Lake Louise for day 2?

    i loooooooooooove this sooooooooooo much

Pana cotta is making me jelly!

I so love the steak and ale pie alongside the vegan wondershake! :) I might try that melting a cheese into the soup thing next soup sunday....we are due for "green" soup soon .... not sure if number two son who loves green soup will go for that - but we can melt our cheese chunks into our individual bowls can't we?

Hope your wrist lets you keep up the amazing job you do with meals/meal planning, Alexandra! (with the help of your son :) )

Look at all these great kids - your son helping you, Connie's grandson helping her. Makes me so happy to think of it!

I have never had pana cotta or steak and ale pie….I lead a sheltered life!

I actually fixed a rather different kind of dinner than we usually have!…marinated diced chicken chunks in soy and pineapple juice….cooked them in very little spritz of olive oil and added diced red peppers and onions…threw in some pineapple tidbits and Birdseye steamer veggies…cooked jasmine rice and sprinkled fresh sliced green onions on top….added some cashews in Johns….it was good but I didn’t want to add extra calories with brown sugar….but it was still pretty good!

My grandson is very close with me and Poppie ( my husband )…Aliyah is the typical dramatic 13 year old girl always has some major crisis in her life!…but Johnnathan is so calm and such an old soul!….he always has been…he is always ready to help with anything and mostly in a good mood!…

OH MY LORD, Connie - there is an awful lot of touching going on in that dinner!!!!!

Sounds like something I might have to make now. I can use tofu chunks instead of chicken - and maybe cauliflower rice?!

Both of your grandchildren just sound wonderful! I'm so enjoying mine...only one....not sure how I'll deal with another when (hopefully) another arrives. But I'm going to love it. <3

Meal planning is not my forte - I give major kudos to those whom do it and stick to the plan.

I have some thawed pork loin. I haven’t decided if I want to make hot and sour soup with it or if I sauté squash, mushrooms, and onions to go with it. 🤔

    Option 2 sounds more filling!

And reminds me that I haven't had squash in awhile...might be time!

Yes everything was touching!….kind of scary lol….it was good but I should have spiced it up more….trying to cut sodium so not much soy sauce…

My daughter has the two, 27 months apart….both were big surprises!…she was working, going to college and coaching swimming!…my son has one boy that I very seldom get to see because of Matt’s X….he is 19 and under his moms thumb 24/7….Matt ( our son ) has an open door for his son but he seldom uses it….bad situation….

I very seldom meal plan until the day of!….but I have a full pantry to choose from!

Hot and sour soup is soooooo yummy! I don’t normally add pork but I struggle to get enough protein.

Everything to make it are pantry staples in my house.

I went with veggies and pork loin this time. Less work!

My wrist is better, but (and people with chronic injuries recognize this) a lurking feeling that is not quite soreness down in the center of the joint saying, "I'm not ALL better yet...so don't push it!" I will brace it at night as soon as the brace comes, and I will be very careful about lifting heavy things with that hand for a bit. One of the men in the house will be going with me shopping on Thursday to lift things for me.

We had pork chops broiled tonight, with (just so you can see how the planning comes out)... rice pilaf for Son and I (put up in 2 ounce packets for microwaving) one serving of (leftover) sweet potato casserole that Girlfriend ate, that was frozen up in its own little microwave-safe miniature casserole dish, and green beans with bacon drippings and cracked black pepper, which were just microwaved from frozen, stirred up with a half-teaspoonful of the bacon drippings that sit in a little container in the refrigerator, and a few grinds of pepper. And I got some cornbread muffins out of the freezer and tucked them into the bread warmer and microwaved them too. So it was a very good dinner but there was almost nothing to actually do other than move things in and out of the microwave and make the green beans and the chops. And there was nothing to the chops but fitting them all in the big cast iron skillet and sprinkling with Penzey's Krackow Nights seasoning blend, then broil 5, turn, broil 5, and rest 5 and serve.

Son is being very helpful. He went round and emptied trash cans tonight because he had emptied his own and why not? First I heard of it all was, "Hey, Mom, where are the trash bags?"

He is working on persuading Hana that the undercoat rake is her friend. She has mats on both sides and does not want me to get them out.

But hot and sour soup is kinda like an appetizer???

Well, let's see you order a SMALL hot and sour soup at a Chinese restaurant and eat it by yourself.... as an appetizer! At full weight i won't lie, I used to order a main dish too; but the soup by itself would be a pretty good sized meal. And you could make a vegetarian version with tofu, but probably not a vegan version

Of course there were TWO Cajun bratwurst sausages at 111g each, not just the one in this picture, and a good 300g of sauerkraut.

The potato salad is skyr based and made with boiled potatoes, green and pickled onions, mustard powder, hard boiled eggs, seasoning and skyr 0%.... and then I caved and mixed in 143g of real potato salad!

Hana is a cat. Sort of a medium-hair; she isn't pouffy like a Persian, but she has a thick undercoat. So she needs to be worked over periodically with the undercoat rake.

    Cats scratch!

I've been trying to de-fur skylar for years.... generally I fail unless I "fake her out" and just do it by hand... the girl can MOVE!

And I have EVIDENCE that she needs de-furring:

Glad your wrist is feeling better (ish) Alexandra. And it's even finer that your son is rising to the occassion :)

That dinner looks delicious, PAV. The potato salad looks amazing. I haven't tried using 0% before - will soon.

And I am definitely going to give the hot & sour a shot soon - the more I looked at pics last night the finer it looked :)

    Thank you, Connie.

I thought I had dinner set - I was going to make a veggie pasta sauce and have it over zuchinni noodles and french style green beans - with veggie meatballs, and cheese :):):)

But I'm running out of day already it seems like - so instead I'm pulling some vegetable and white bean stew from the freezer and having that with some of those little veggie sausages that I'm trying not to eat o:)

Greek Girl used to be CGG...now she's CCCGG...I'm guessing the GG stands for Greek Girl so just the three Cs to decipher.

    Cute captivatingly charming Greek Girl?

Love it, PAV. You have us all very entertained/intrigued by CCCGG!

The sausages I was going to eat tonight, but didn't (VICTORY!) are the YVES veggie breakfast links. They are little, I cut them in slices so the cook up real quick, and they kinda taste like breakfast sausages. Two of them are only 70 calories and 10 grams of protein.

The ones that I really like are their Mediterranean Harissa Sausages - the are pretty tasty! 210 calories and 22 grams protein. So there has to be more room in the daily calorie picture to fit one of those babies in!
