So today I "broke my fast" with tea and 10g of brazil nuts - the hardboiled egg alternative. I like it even better. Kept me going for the morning walk - and won't interfere with my standard scrambled eggs and veggies midday meal. And it fits in with my "reasonable portion" work. They don't look like much, and they are not "filling" but they do seem to suppress hunger. I'm not sure if there is a word for that. So I think this fast-breaking combo will be a keeper.
Though I could get those hard-boiled eggs down - they interfered with my egg/veggie go-to meal. Can't have that. I think we are probably all a little obsessive when it comes to food and our meal routines.2 -
One of my unbreakable rules of eating is NEVER to eat something unpalatable just because it's 'healthy' or helps me hit one of my macros.
For future reference, mixing 10g of banana flavoured Vegan Wondershake protein powder into 75g of Fage 5% Greek yoghurt and eating with defrosted berries and chunks of fresh banana IS NOT PALATABLE. It made the yoghurt claggy and there weren't enough other flavours to mask the slightly pea-ish taste of the protein powder (hardly surprising it tastes pea-ish since it's pea protein).
Not an experiment to be repeated.3 -

I made a trip to the ~FaNcY~ grocery store this morning to see if there was anything out of the ordinary that might pique my interest (and that I would be willing to drop big bucks on, because that place is expensive.) Ran across some cartons of Muscadine Black grapes - anyone familiar? They're much bigger than regular grapes, like ping pong ball sized, and they didn't come on a vine, just loose in the carton. I thought they looked fun and brought them home to try - jury is still out on if I actually like them.
Also picked up some dates and goat cheese, mushrooms, a bag of apples, and a little cup of pomegranate arils that I've been snacking on all day. Nice to get a little outside the norm sometimes!3 -
Dinner tonight was really good…..beef cube steaks fried in a few spritz of olive oil, air fryer tiny potatoes and steamed petite green peas….coffee and fiber one cookie for dessert….I am stuffed!2

4 small or 3 medium which works well for me - I'm not really a morning eater (the only time of day I don't really like to eat!).2 -
@Bella_Figura funny you mentioned the honey - the goat cheese I picked up is supposed to be... infused? flavored? imbued with the essence of honey? I don't know how they've done it but I'm eager to try it!3

Brazil nut needs re weight? I was wondering if 10g is even one nut! These suckers are normally huge!!!
We went to the dogs yesterday and I carefully (and generously) logged my delicious BBQ brisquet dinner (CCCGG's request is minimum two dinners at BIG T BBQ!!!) and I was, in my opinion, at a deficit or at worse even Steven.
Fitbit decrees that I'm dreaming given that my 2bpm increase of resting heart rate this morning is a clear indication (in my case) of a caloric surplus yesterday!!!

???? - Your heart rate went up because of a caloric surplus ???? My heart rate just went up a few beats looking at your beautiful smiling faces. I'm surprised that your resting heart rate isn't in the 80s or 90s
And - on the far less important question of brazil nut weights ... unless my scale is bonkers in an undetectable manner (or maybe because my brazil nuts are on the smaller side?) I can mix and match nuts so that 4 small or 3 medium nuts weigh in at 10 grams. I've checked it against a postal scale I have (but that doesn't accurately compare the very light weight of a gram or two) and all seems well with the scale. My gram/vs single almond ratio seems correct compared to the figures in the MFP database. One research article I found online noted the average weight of each brazil nut was 4 plus/minus .4g - so I think my measurement is okay. Lol - obsession not around these parts!

I googled Brazil nuts….3 is usually 10 grams and you should only consume 3 Brazil nuts a day!1

I have 3 skinless and boneless chicken breast in the slow cooker…..not sure what I am making with them yet!…John will probably have them shredded with BBQ sauce on them but I might have a fajita…..decisions decisions!2 -

I always stock up on the Italian version of those pistachio bars whenever I'm in Italy - they are seriously addictive!
I'm now looking lasciviously at the pistachio gelato in my freezer...4 -
Hey all the blame goes to CCCGG who(se family) actually has a small summer place in Aigina with PISTACHIO TREES (not necessarily the same ones used to make the bars mind you)... and who brought me the evil things. She can be even more evil (she wasn't this time) and bring the version which adds cocoa for a chocolatey combo!
Err... these are NOT recommended for "good caloric value"; just saying!!!!4 -
My calorie deficit is falling apart today...fast. Ate my allotted calories by mid afternoon...(I blame not eating when I was hungry late this morning, because I had a meeting, bad idea because once I finally did eat I was unable to stop)...and now I can feel all control slipping away. Pizza on its way again. Cause I'm just too lazy now to even walk to the grocery store for some decadentish.
The only thing I'm promising is that I will log every last embarrassing bit.

Tomorrow is indeed a new day. We did not have the scheduled dinner because I wasn't in shape to cook it, so people have gotten chicken patties or tenders at their own pace, and anyone who didn't get their plate back out in time for the dishwasher can wash by hand.
Tomorrow I have fajitas planned. The veggies are cut and the beef is frozen in marinade, so I'll get that out before bed and it'll be thawed by lunch. Similarly we're having Hot Italian Beef sandwiches for lunch, and the sandwich filling is frozen, all I have to do it thaw it and make sure before I go to bread we have enough ciabatta rolls out for tomorrow's lunch. Then the bag gets dumped in a large bowl and nuked to hot, ladled onto buns, top with a slice of mozzarella, and under the broiler for 3 minutes, and very tasty and satisfying. Also not much cleanup, which is nice.4 -

Not sure what MY excuse was... but the pizza was decadent (added to THAT album)... even though it looks tiny, it truly WAS a 12" medium, and the kale Caesar salad was surprisingly good. Any saving from the Caesar dressing on the side... went out the window when I "played" with the hot chili oil (embarrassingly fake ... cause what the heck was I thinking!!!)4 -

Back on the wagon after a crazy weekend of eating …was tasty though!
I got hungry this afternoon after my walk, so I snacked on some pistachios and a chocolate-raspberry RxBar.
Dinner was an omelette with fresh garden tomatoes, avocado, Canadian bacon, and fresh basil.
To get in the rest of my protein, I made a blackberry protein shake sweetened with a little honey.2 -

Today for dinner I channelled my inner five-year-old self and had fish fingers, oven chips and baked beans for dinner. It was overly orange, but strangely satisfying!
In my defence, the fish fingers were posh adult ones....6 -

I love reading posts like this and trying to translate it into something my American brain understands 😂
Fish fingers = fish sticks? Odd that we have chicken "fingers" here (aka strips or tenders) but for fish, if it's narrow and battered, it's a fish stick.
Oven chips = French fries baked in the oven?4 -

I love the cultural differences too! If it's fish it's fingers (or fish goujons if you're being posh); they're mainly in breadcrumbs, but you can get the battered version too.
If it's crab, it's a crab stick. (yuk)
If it's chicken it's.....you know, I'm not sure! I don't know if we even have such a thing as chicken fingers in England....we do have turkey twizzlers, I think, unless they've been banned on taste grounds (in both senses of the word!).
These are the components of my meal....(and there's me always saying I don't eat much processed food!)
I dread to think how many e numbers there were in that little lot, but there was a comfort-blanket feeling to the entire meal!

Pho tai no vien with copious amounts of sriracha and hoisin once CCCGG got her tiny share out of the bowl.
Plus half of the full full sized ban mi type Vietnamese sandwich in that picture but with grilled pork, no pate. Each half was a normal ban mi size! 😂😹
