THIS!!!!
Most days I need a drink!….lol2 -
Hubby decided he needed an Oktoberfest dinner. The pork was roasting in the hot oven all morning. It’s 90 freaking degrees outside and the air conditioner is pumping away. So tonight it’s roast pork and sauerkraut. I’ll have a salad and de-fat the pork (4oz.). Hubby is also having potatoes. He eats all the time and never gains weight. I’ve learned I cannot eat like he does without dire consequences. 😖4

90 degree... in October. Yikes.
Here it’s all woolly hats and waterproofs. It’s cold, wet and windy. Autumn well underway.4 -

Yup - 70s and 80s in November. 60s in December. We usually get some “winter” January and February. Those two months are when we breakout a sweater. While we get some frost it’s usually not cold enough for heavy coats. Winters are generally dry. That’s average.
However February 2021 we got an unheard of 8” of snow. Lost electricity for a week, no city snow removal equipment so couldn’t drive anywhere. When the electricity came back, frozen water pipes burst all over town so no water for days. Houses here have no cellars so pipes are shallow.
Very exciting in the midst of a pandemic. It was one for record books. 😱

Well it is hot here and every year it is hotter….I have seen snow in Florida two times, 1974 and 1984, I think….it was so cold November 1984 at Thanksgiving…might get a sweater out in Dec….I grew up in S. Indiana and we had blizzards!…and at least in Las Vegas it got cold!….I miss winter!…..3

Oh, dinner!…last night we had bbq chicken, corn on cob, sweet potatoes, and green beans….tonight we had zucchini lasagna….I spent the afternoon being zapped at the dermatologists office….the doctor couldn’t believe my first body scan I only had 4 spots and I do not use sunscreen but I guess I will start!…also had a funny bump on my left forearm that he did a biopsy on….he even said my skin wasn’t bad for losing 110 pounds but said my arms will most likely stay saggy….oh well!1

Grew up in Ohio in the snow belt. And I lived in northern Maine for three years where we had 10 feet of snow one winter. Seriously! Hubby is a meteorologist so we were stationed in all the fun weather places. I like to visit snow but can’t say I want to do snow for 4-5 months.
At least we don’t have to shovel sunshine ☀️3 -
I need to get a proper coat, and so does Boyfriend. I love my big wool cape, but it is impractical for grocery shopping (Specifically the loading/unloading of the car) and for shoveling snow. True, Boyfriend and Eldest Son will take the shovel out of my hands and tell me to go sit down, but I like to know I could if I needed to.
We'll have to go out and get new coats, he and I. I shrunk so much that I passed my former coat over to my girlfriend.5 -
One time I had to buy a coat because I flew to Buffalo to watch my daughter compete in synchronized swimming in the middle of winter…..many years later I went to Indiana five years ago and left my winter coat there so I wouldn’t have to wrestle it on the plane….I have never missed it but it was very nice!2
-
Yes, one does need a coat in Indiana!
And I've moved the felted wool sitting slippers (I can't actually walk round in them much) that my mom gave me down so that I can wear them sitting on the couch sewing or reading this winter.
(I have a leg length difference so I have to be in shoes that have a compensating lift on the short side if I'm going to do much more than walk to the bathroom. Ten minutes standing barefoot gives me a backache tomorrow.)4 -

100%!
I actually am in need of a real winter coat as well. Though I am not outside that much so I keep putting it off. We have tunnels at work so no need to walk outside from the parking garage into the building. I live in an apartment so I don't have to shovel. I really only go out to do my shopping, but even then I am in and out of stores and I HATE dealing with a jacket in the store so I usually just move fast.
Food wise... I ate tacos for dinner last night (and Monday night). Made my own refried pinto beans. I used a little too much garlic in them (never thought I would say that) but they are still good. Just not as balanced as I would have liked. Had those on the side with a little cheese. The tacos were leftover chicken, homemade pickled onions, pico, and sour cream. Very simple.3 -
My zucchini lasagna sort of lol was really good last night….I am the only person in the house that likes it!….tonight I have a big pot of bean soup on the stove and I am making some corn muffins….it’s only 92 degrees outside!….should warm us up!….2

hmmm.... a bag of beetroot noodles and a jar of classico are ~410 Cal. A huge bowl of baby Brussels sprouts and a bag of (ready to eat) mash potatoes is about 500 Cal. And a single cliff bar is a bit more than 250. Hmmm.... I think one or both of the first two are probably a better deal for me today!2

Finally some penance after weeks of dazzling tasty seductive food photos! 😩
My supper was a large salad and 4 oz. piece of hubby’s pork roast. He’s the family cook now. I gave it up three years ago while he loves to cook. He never gains weight and can (and will) snack all day between regular meals. How can that be humanly possible?4 -
I have the shopping list made for tomorrow and the precooking list made, and even though it's just 8 and I could knock some of it out right now... I'm out of steam. It's raining, it's been a stressful day, and I'm done. Tomorrow is soon enough to start handling it all. After all, I DO like having rice premade and prepackaged into tidy little two ounce packages.4

I decided part of my gratitude habit/goal for today I’d try making something I never had before using pumpkin and make everything (minus the feta) from scratch.
Tonight’s dinner -
Spinach salad with roasted pumpkin, herb feta, pine nuts, and roasted chicken over a bed of spinach with balsamic-Dijon vinaigrette and cinnamon apple chips to crumble over the top for some crunch.
With a cup of ginger snap tea.7 -
Coats!!!!
I like nuts last year with coats and I still have a coat disorder. I live in a place where the weather can swing 20° in a day and jump all over the place from September to Mays as soon as I started this walking regime coats became an issue. I was swimming in the coats I had last year and started buying coats on Facebook marketplace because the stores were closed. I think I've gone through 20 coats finding the right ones... And the right ones have added up to a ridiculous number. I'm a bit short on closet space so I keep on rifling through them, trying to decide which ones I can get rid of, but it seems that I can't get below eight. Lol. Including three raincoats (your raincoat has to match the temperature too). Having all these coats really bugs me - I'm a bit of a minimalist and they just poke at me all the time - and I keep on looking at coats still because I haven't really found the perfect rain coat for a cool day..
Lol
The good thing is I gave many homeless people in the area coats last winter and this fall. And supplied a friend who had gained weight but didn't want to buy a new coat because it felt like a sign of failure a heavy winter coat and a jacket.
I was buying coats without trying them on because everyone was doing e-transfer transactions to hold their item until I could pick it up. I don't have a car so it wasn't always quick. Nothing was very expensive so it wasn't a big loss if the coat turned out not to fit right.
I might have to go for coat counselling.
At least my footwear is reasonable... Two pairs of walking boots. One pair of sandals for around the house. One pair of slippers for around the house in winter.
This coat
confession actually feels very liberating!

I'll make you feel better Laurie - I have...let me count....six coats/jackets....of which all but two were charity shop bargains...they are a thick parka type coat for super-cold days; a mid-thigh length wax jacket for rainy dog walking; a technical cycling waterproof jacket; a vintage (40 y/old) duffle coat; one light jacket for summer; one puffer jacket for cold dry winter days.
But...I have 52 pairs of footwear....if I include slippers, sandals, cycling shoes and wellies. And I wear maybe five pairs regularly - my cycling shoes, my walking boots, my wellies, one favourite pair of trainers (I have 9 pairs in total) and my slippers. That leaves 47 pairs of shoes that never see the light of day from one year to the next. Which is obscene and shameful. Many are leather-soled shoes (brogues and loafers) that I bought for Northern soul dancing - maybe I'll wear some of those again one day. Some are smart shoes that I used to wear for work - I have no intention of ever wearing them again. I have a ridiculous amount of slippers because my MIL has bought me TWO pairs of slippers every Christmas for the past 5 years, and I still haven't worn out the first pair yet.
I need to take the whole load to the charity shop and have done with them. I feel like Imelda Marcos...3 -
You are both making me laugh lol….I have one pair of nice black sandal heels and two pair of old sneakers and one new nice pair!….I have a ( ONE ) jacket/ sweatshirt/ hoodie I throw on if it gets chilly like below 65 degrees but sweaters OMG I love sweaters, always have….I used to travel north a few weeks in the winter and I still have sweaters, every color of the rainbow!…last year I bought two pull over sweaters at Tommy Hillfiggers ( sp ) because they actually fit me but I have never worn them SMH….it was never cold enough last winter!…2
-
We are all so blessed.
I love sweaters too Connie, but can control myself around them.🙂
I don't think the dancing shoes should count, Bella. They are more tools than shoes.1 -
I'm just heading out with the Laine, and thought maybe I should just count the coats. There's not eight there's 13. Clearly I need to buy another so it's not an unlucky number. 🙂1

That doesn’t sound very high maintenance, Connie! Please make me feel better by telling me that you have stacks and stacks of jewellery! And handbags...And cosmetics and lotions...And perfume...And nice lingerie...
I have none of those things in abundance (if at all).

I lost weight in my feet! So had to donate many shoes which helped clean the closet a bit.
I too love sweaters and rarely get to wear them more than once or twice a year. Sometimes I have to wait two or more years. I couldn’t bear to part with a couple of beautiful cable sweaters bought over 40 years ago in Maine at the L.L.Beane store. I also had a red wool coat hubby bought for me when we lived in Colorado shortly after marriage. Sentimentally I kept them through 10 moves and increasingly warmer climates. Last year I pulled them out when we had our bizarre snowfall. They fit again! And kept me warm when we had no heat for a week.

Ummmm…..a few purses, one designer bag, tons of cosmetics and every cream and lotion known to mankind and yes I do have some beautiful pieces of jewelry my mother left me and my husband bought me!…I collected books for a long time but I got rid of probably 200 when we moved the last time….I like unique pieces of dinnerware and wine glasses….I love going to wineries and tasting different area wines….I do miss those trips that John and I use to take when his health was good….wonderful memories!2 -
Oh Connie, they sound like wonderful memories! And hopefully you'll be able to add to them again one day!
I've spent the afternoon shuttling backwards and forwards to the clothing bank - I have donated:- two sleeping bags
- four coats/jackets
- seven sweaters
- four sweatshirts
- five pairs of pajamas
- nine blouses/shirts
- four smart skirts
- six dresses
- four pairs of jeans
- three pairs of smart trousers
- fourteen tshirts
- two pairs of jogging pants
- three woolly hats
- five woolly scarves
- three pairs of leather gloves
- thirty nine pairs of shoes/boots/slippers
Now my wardrobe has only 9 items hanging in it, and three of the five drawers in my dresser are totally empty. And I'm no longer in danger of being buried under an avalanche of shoes!
Now that's what you call radical de-cluttering!
Oh, and because this is meant to be a food thread, I made a delicious pot of leek, onion and potato soup, which I had for both lunch and dinner with a hunk of granary bread. Yum. But unfortunately I'm still hungry....

I have a problem I have to confess?!
Not sure what it has to do with supper?
I've taken five packed to the gills SUV loads of (multiple) orange plastic garbage bags of all the above mentioned material to the Salvation Army since post covid the local women's shelter (mom's preference) doesn't accept direct donations. And I still don't think there's **any** category where I can't beat any one of you in quantity 🤷🏻♂️ except that perhaps now that a number of people have taken multiple pairs of shoes my good and usable "look like new" shoe count is below 50... and I'm fairly sure I could still whip out a couple of dozen.
If shipping wasn't such a killer cost I would be offering to you guys but our parcel costs are insane! 🥺 Almost getting down to only having items that still have price tags on them... wouldn't doubt that the totals represented more than a year or two+ of my total income... even bought on sale! ☹️ At least a lot of it was enjoyed and mom had a habit of also buying as gifts clothes and accessories for multiple people she knew, so these were around too!
Planning on getting the "best" sold by a lady I know. PS: bags of consume jewelry mixed with real stones available in... quantity!🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️2 -
My favorite spaghetti substitute the frozen beet spirals? What happens if you pour a bag of ready-made Shahi paneer over them? Should this be called Indian pasta? Or Shahi paneer with beetroots? 🤔 Either way around 400 calories for a big bowl!4

John loves Swedish Meatballs and in 46 years of marriage I have never attempted to make them!…so today was THE day….since I can’t swim this week I thought I would give them a go….I found a recipe that didn’t look too over the top with calories and I used light sour cream in the gravy made with Swansons beef broth….I had 1 1/4 c. cooked noodles,4 meatballs smallish, and a couple of spoonfuls of gravy plus 2/3 c. green petite peas….he loved it, I thought it was ok….I told him I would make it again in 46 more years lol3

Dinner tonight is General Tso's pork with white rice and Asian mixed veggies for some of us, and for Son Sweet and Sour Chicken with white rice.4
-
Mmm.... general tso with swedish meatballs AND indian beetroots.... THAT's IT!
(and then I woke up!)3
