Friday (finally!)
Heya Slimsters, woke up to rain this morning - egads, we just got the basement dried out from the last round! We have some water companies coming out in the next several weeks to inspect and give us some quotes - time to swallow the big lump and put a permanent fix to this issue. Continuous development in our area of Raleigh has increased the whole neighborhood's water problem - rain is more of a Heavenly nature!
@TeresaW1020 what a fantastic weigh in - who needs sugar when you have the sweet taste of rolling down to a new decade of numbers???? So thrilled for you!!!! This is a great example of being able to have some holiday food, wine and sugar - and get back on plan! You didn't blow out the whole holiday season - you had some enjoyable and memorable meals and indulgences - and then devised a plan for yourself to return to what is the normal eating for you, now
@davors19 keeping it in the green, way to go!!
@davidji82 what a great drop this week, very impressive!
@padjoetho super first weigh in, most excellent!
@AustinRuadhain the correlation between sleep and weight loss just cannot be overstated! I started becoming more guarded over my sleep hour - I was a few minutes late last night getting in at 1030 but we turned off the lights pretty quickly. I like it better when we get there about 10 and can just ease into it. What I really like it to end the day with something from this gang - they *really* produce happy vibes from the tip of the hair to the root of the toes!!!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU_arNEQ8lMAustinRuadhain wrote: »Howdy Slimlettes! @kerritho Fantastic drop on your weigh in!! So happy to have you along, this is a very positive and wonderful group of supportive folks! It is disappointing when the salad comes all dressed up with nowhere to go - I hope you were able to skim some off or at least, maybe it wasn't drowning in elaborate garb!
MINDSET
I believe I am fighting for my life right now. I am fighting to live because if I don't, obesity is going to kill me. I am older, I am 52, and you might be able to get away with being chubby in your 20s (you may not like it though) but in your 50s, it becomes more serious. I don't want to speed up the countdown clock on my life lol! At the same time, there is this "eff it" part of me that takes over sometimes. It's the part of me that forgets I'm trying to change the way I eat and think. It is the part of me that whispers in my ear, "Go ahead, eat those chocolates. It won't hurt anything." But I need to remember that I am FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE. I need to change my mindset, which is why I chose CHANGE HAPPENS as my phrase for the year.
@trooworld this is just awesome! We ARE fighting for our lives - no matter the amount of weight, all of the life or sometime later - - we all need to be the best and healthiest version of ourselves. The pandemic has made this really clear to me, the risks of extra weight and all of the health problems associated with it could make getting sick even deadlier. I know that voice, that insidious whisper to just eat something. Or worse - the big *THUD* as I smack that hooker to the ground in a race to the fridge. Still and all, each time we have to backtrack is an opportunity to learn something about the way we operate and find out what we can do to be a little better tomorrow and be a little better the next time and be a LOT better over time.
Much love to you Slimaloo Peeps, will check in this evening! I'm working toward two a day so I don't feel stressed about being able to read and respond to everything at once; much easier broken up. Signing off from my recliner with fuzzy slippers, fuzzy robe and mug o' joe.

@kerritho Well done on the loss! It sounds like you have a great reason to get healthier. I hate when the kitchen messes up my special request and yours wasn't complicated so it should have been easy to do. Have a good week!
@TeresaW1020 Feisty is a good word for Dr. Berry! There are so many great examples of getting in shape after 50 out there. We can do it! Congrats on yet another loss, going down down down!
@AustinRuadhain Great job, getting your sweat in! And all green dots, woo hoo! Noooo, the chocolates are still at work but I'm only at work once a week and I think now that I've had my "kid in a candy store" moment, I can go back to enjoying just one or two chocolates at a time. I used to be like that.
@raleighgirl09 That's great that you had a good day and congrats on that super loss! You are talking about sleep and weight loss: I believe I'm being affected by this. I sleep HORRIBLY and am constantly hungry. I am in the process of getting a referral to the sleep clinic to hopefully solve it. re: fighting for our lives...yes, the fact that obesity makes you in line with COVID complications is scary! I like the idea of doing a little better each day.
Hello all. I've been struggling so badly with my sleep for the past couple of years, I just can't get enough. I finally realized that there are doctors that specialize in sleep and they might be able to help me so I am in the process of getting a referral to the sleep clinic. I believe lack of sleep is the cause of my constant hunger. I look forward to solving this issue.

Hi everyone - my name is Annie, 54, a Brit who has been living in the US since I got married in 1991. We have 2 sons, our 23 yr old lives in Asia & the 20 yr old is away at college, so we are also empty nesters. I joined this group 12 months ago with the intention of losing 16 pounds by the the end of 2020. At the end of August (around my birthday) I had lost 13 of those 16, and then admittedly I took my foot off the gas & slowly have gained about 5 of them back.
But, on a positive note, I feel much fitter and healthier going into 2021 than I did this time last year. I know what works for me (and what doesn't!) and it's less daunting to lose 8 pounds than 16.
All the best for 2021 everyone!!

Hello and Happy Friday. I've spent too much time reading and not responding and now I don't think I can catch up except generally. I've read everything and think of you all often. @raleighgirl09 - I'm loving your riffs on the Slims. I've seen some excellent losses this week. Plenty of wonderful, inspirational thinking going on- That's the BEST!
So, this is late because I've been mulling, but I came up with my inspiration for the year. First, this is what I read: (for reference-ruminating and BMW (B-tch, moan, whine) syndrome is what is being discussed here.... )
"The biggest source of BMW-ing is refusing to accept that achieving and sustaining your mental and physical transformation takes work. That's right- mental and physical sweat, intensity, mindfulness, focus- all things that you apply to your job, your kids, your relationships. Why shouldn't you expend the same energy on yourself? Humbly accept that your self care will take work and you'll make the journey so much easier." Then, later this struck me: "It's about optimizing your strengths, navigating around your vulnerabilities and going for it." (Body for Life for Women)
Navigating around your vulnerabilities! Yes! I've been refusing to accept this as work for a long time, or at least refusing to DO the work. Why am I willing to put in the effort in other areas of my life, if not this? @trooworld is exactly right, we ARE fighting for our lives here.
I feel I've spent all last year learning about the ways I have not been honest with myself. Learning that I CAN actually do this and I should stop telling myself that I can't. I've been correcting the dishonesty, gathering tools I can use to help me with the work. I've learned how important mindset is on this journey. Now I'm ready.
My phrase is "Do the work"
Have a nice weekend Ya'll!3 -
Adding this because I think it's funny.... I had typed out the "B word" (swear) above and MFP changed it to this:

@padjoetho, @davidji82, @adhmrh, @gwamajtw91, @Cornanda Wayyyy to go with the great weight losses this week!!! Keep it up and the Slimpossibles will become the Unstoppables. @davidji82 Holding steady is a good thing too!!
@AustinRuadhain Yup, if we could just remember that the taste goes in a blink of an eye but the effects on our weight and emotions go on so much longer.
@raleighgirl09 Yayyyy for the awesome weight loss you had this week! Keep it up! Ugggh that is not good to have a basement full of water. I hope you can get your fix and still afford to buy food. Thank you and I am happy that I was able to get back on my plan and start seeing the weight come off. What I’ve learned is that my body wants to fast, and it wants low carb if it’s to drop the weight. Knowing that really helps me when things go awry at the next holiday or big event. I LOVE that family!! That little girl knows how to rock, and her daddy is a very good singer. Is he famous?
@trooworld I really think that if you can nail down your sleep issues you are going to see some real improvement with controlling your hunger.
@Cornanda LOVE your phrase, “Do the work!” How very true it is. I know you and all of us have heard that phrase, “Being fat is hard, losing weight is hard, choose your hard.” When something is hard then that means work. Let’s stop the cycle of beating ourselves up by NOT doing the things that give us reason to beat ourselves up. Let’s do the work and reap the benefits of a healthy body and a happy soul.
Hi Team! I did try to come up with a clever name for you all but how could I ever top Slimaloo and Slimlettes! I just have to say that I am so inspired by all of you! I think we are really starting this New Year off on a great foot. We are learning about ourselves and striving to change the things we continually do that keep us where we don’t want to be. We are growing in the right way and that is awesome!! We just must keep up this momentum and continue to lift each other up along the way. I want this year to be the year where we see real progress not only with our weight but with the emotions that gave us a weight problem in the first place. NONE of us have to stay where we have been or where we are now. I genuinely believe that!
And since I’m about to leave to take my pastor and his wife out to dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant I needed to come here and get fired up that tonight is just one dinner. I might indulge a bit more than I have been this past week, but I am NOT derailing all the hard work I’ve been doing. I got this!
January Goals: 1/8
No Sugar Challenge: I was sugar free today
Fast for 19+ hours: I fasted 20 hours
Ate on plan: I won't be strict on my plan tonight since I'm going out, but I've planned ahead and I will stick to it.
Workout 30+ minutes: Beachbody program #MBF full body and I did 20 minute
Drink 96+ oz. of water: I have done well. For every cup of coffee (and there were four of them) I drank a 12 oz glass of water. I will drink more water this evening.
2021 Focus Word: TRANSFORMATION
I made this a year or so ago and it still holds truth!

Also, which loss to date do I post?
From when I joined MFP (March 2013 😆) it would be 15.2 lbs
From when I “recommitted” to MFP and tracking about 6 months ago) it would be 5.6 lbs
Looking back at my MFP history, I have had periods where I was logging and engaging in the MFP community and I reliably lost weight/ ate better, then I would slack off and disengage. But it’s been so nice to have MFP and all my MFP friend support here for the times I came back. I’m so grateful to have something to help me take control of my eating when I feel I’ve lost it. And I know it reliably WORKS for me when I’m ready for the change I need.
Sorry for the ramble - this all makes sense in my head and I’m tired. I don’t post much but I read daily and I’m just grateful for this team and all the inspiration you give me! 😀3 -

@itsmegina I sorta figured it out to be the below, for me and what I want to remind myself of as far as how far I've come. Like @TeresaW1020 noted, you let us know. It's really your choice...it's your journey and story, you can lay out the chapter and verse as it best fits your travels.
LTD MFP #2 54.1 lbs (my second big MFP experience started at 235 in April of 2018)
LTD overall 119.1 lbs (I began at 300ish pounds - a guesstimate because I hadn't weighed in some time - more than 20 years ago, it took me 5 or 6 (7?) years to lose 130 lbs. It's actually become hard to recall all the details, that's how long ago it was! )
The main thing about doing this, for me, is that when I gain weight, I have to change these numbers and make the loss amounts smaller which is a HUGE red flag and reminder to me to do something now, not later.4 -

Saturday check in
WOW - did I ever go out with a bang last night! I was right at my calorie goal with around 1160 and then had a moment that was about 700ish calories (starting with the third drink which is not ever really what one could call a 'good' idea). I didn't get 2 walks yesterday due to very cold rain and I didn't get all my water. I mean.....towel thrown in for no reason! It's a new day, though, and the sun is out and we're getting up to 50 degrees today!!! I'll get my walks and need to go shopping so steps won't be an issue. Got my water plan and working on pre-logging for the day. I did food prep last week and it was super nice to have food at the ready again so I'm doing it again for this coming week. Makes life so much easier! Also - uses all the food purchased and makes for less waste - all wins!
@RYcare @mlhopp93 @Cstockton18 @itsmegina @adhmrh @gwamajtw91 @Cornanda - all excellent weigh ins, January is starting off in a most excellent way for YOU and for the team! CONGRATS! This is very inspiring and makes the day even more brilliant and looking doable for my own progress!!!!!
I didn't come up with my own phrase but I'm taking inspiration from @Cornanda and @trooworld with "Do the work" and "Change happens" Change happens when we do the work - and this is such a fabulous bit of motivation that talks about what is REAL:
"The biggest source of BMW-ing is refusing to accept that achieving and sustaining your mental and physical transformation takes work. That's right- mental and physical sweat, intensity, mindfulness, focus- all things that you apply to your job, your kids, your relationships. Why shouldn't you expend the same energy on yourself? Humbly accept that your self care will take work and you'll make the journey so much easier." Then, later this struck me: "It's about optimizing your strengths, navigating around your vulnerabilities and going for it." (Body for Life for Women)

@AustinRuadhain I love SlimPosse Peeps!!! And I just love that kid and dad band - it's the front girl who really tickles me and makes me happy!! I need as much happy in my day as I can get!! @TeresaW1020 I believe dad is in a band that was interrupted by COVID so the family came up with doing this as a way to keep busy and stay connected with family. It took off in that magical internet kinda way and they have gained quite a following - they were featured on the Ellen show, it's one of the videos on their channel!! They're just such fun to watch......and that little girl reminds me of my granddaughter and so....well, there you have it. It pushes my Gigi button.
@TeresaW1020 you'll do great at dinner - enjoy it and the company!!! =>

I had a bad day yesterday. I went for a long walk but then watched Emily in Paris on Netflix. They were all drinking wine so I decided to join in! Then I made some bad food choices - That's what happens when drinking. Sometimes when my garmin adds my activities to MFP the amount of calories for the exercise must be exaggerated. It gives me to much leeway with what I think I can consume. I think I need to focus more on total calories instead of net calories.
Thanks for all the posts. They contain some very inspiring weight losses and ideas in them.4 -
@mlhopp93, @ RYcare, @cdnlaxmom, and @Firefly743 You all have a VERY good start to 2021!! Keep up the great work and make this an amazing January!
@itsmegina I am so glad that you are getting something out of this group and coming here and just reading and feeling support is awesome. We all can’t post every day, but when you can it’s great to hear from you, and please feel free to ramble anytime. Heaven knows I’m good at a good ramble too.
@Cstockton18 How you right that the feeling of achievement feels so great and it’s something we should all be chasing every day. I hope your day has been wonderful.
@raleighgirl09 OK, you went over your calories and I hope you at least enjoyed yourself. Now, you draw a line and call it a new day. You have a good plan for the day, so go forth and conquer!
@kerritho All I can say is wine happens! :grins: When I was a calorie counter, I never bought into the thought of eating my exercise calories. Unless you are an athlete and burning a ton of calories that is just not something you should be worried about.
Hi Team! Well, my dinner was lots of fun last night. Great people and great food are a very good combo. We ended up ordering appetizers but I was very careful and didn't overdo it. My was grilled salmon, sauteed broccoli, and a Caesar salad with no croutons. Hubby and split a big bottle of San Pellegrino, which is my favorite sparkling water. My weight was up a little this morning, but I’m not worried about it. I did an extra-long workout this morning and my eating is back to strict Keto. I also listened to a great podcast on Low Carb MD with a doctor who runs a low carb weight loss clinic and she was talking about how she gives every patient a copy of the “The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person,” by Judith Beck. I have heard of the book but never read it. So, it’s on its way and I’m excited because like we have been talking about, it’s all about mindset. Until we get that right we will NOT be able to lose our weight AND keep it off.
January Goals: 1/9
No Sugar Challenge: I was sugar free today
Fast for 19+ hours: I fasted 16.5 hours
Ate on plan: I stayed Keto today.
Workout 30+ minutes: Beachbody program #MBF lower body with a 15 minute HIIT program on the treadmill. My legs are tired!
Drink 96+ oz. of water: I got all my water in for the day

Hey gang! This is just a quick check-in, loved reading everyone's updates! Did my new workout routine. We aren't going to my boyfriend's buddy's house until next weekend so I read a Janet Evanovich book this morning and am about to dive into another one. I'm having to be careful with the planking when it comes to ab workouts but that's easy to modify. I'm hanging in there with food, it's going to be a tough week with my boyfriend's birthday but I want to be able to have my cake and eat it too, literally! Well, his cake but you know what I mean!5

Hey all, sorry I’ve not been posting. I have been reading everything though and loving the conversations! Particularly around mindset. That’s something I’m working through myself as well, getting myself on the right track mentally. Sometimes I feel like just giving up and I feel old habits creeping back in. I am trying to get myself back into a routine because I know that helps me a lot. My challenge at this point is getting back into tracking everything. I think I’ve only tracked 2 days this year! Today I will track.
The mindset thing is huge for me. Sometimes I let myself get overwhelmed and that’s just not productive. But there’s also those feelings of guilt when I eat more than I should or eat something I shouldn’t or skip a workout. I don’t want to feel those things anymore. Which is why my word for 2021 is peace - if I can find peace within myself, I know I can stop giving power to those old habits and feeling that subsequent guilt!

Saturday evening winding down
Hi all, hope everyone had a great Saturday! It was sunny and got up to 50 today - we walked by the river for a 3.25 distance so no second walk... => Did some grocery shopping and didn't feel like making the dinner I had planned so I'll do that tomorrow and just had some leftovers. Food has been fine, although I will go over the MFP calories again - still not staying to the 1240 a day. @kerritho I agree with @TeresaW1020 on the philosophy of 'eating back' the calories. My goal is to stick to the *initial* allowance and although I have stayed in the green on the calories per MFP, it's because of the added exercise calories. Last summer, a friend said I should just take that off of my page and not have those added in as I went along. I took the plunge last year....maybe it was June of 2020....and I really did well as I was motivated to stick to the amount and stay green, not going over. And I was walking a LOT, often getting 15000 steps a day so the weight was just peeling off. I'm not in the head space to take that plunge right now but I will eventually do that again. It made a big difference for me when I did it and stuck to it for several months. The problem for me is when it feels depriving which I think would be the case if I tried that right now. BUT. You definitely have me thinking about it.
I'm planning to be closer to home tomorrow, do my walks in the 'hood and spend some time cooking for the week and getting my home office squared away - it's a bit of a cluster at the moment and making me kinda crazy! It was never really turned into my office yet, more a quick stick a table and chair in there, sorta thing - and the bed (it's the guest room) is stacked up with all kinds of crapola. I'll feel better when it's more thoughtful and mindful, and looks more like a place someone would want to go and work all day.
@Digger61 @TwistedSassette @cdnlaxmom @Firefly743 - SHAZAM, another great set of weigh ins!!!! I was telling hubby on our walk today that everyone has kicked into high gear, it's such fun and inspirational to be a part of it!!! WAY TO GO!!
@TwistedSassette love your word peace.... Wishing much of it for you - guilt over food choices is painful and so pointless as nothing good comes from it - at least for me, it may make me eat more rather than the desired effect of making me think twice. If you can, think about the coming guilt before making the choice and if it's going to make you feel guilty....let that be the reason you don't do it. BUT if you do - work on not allowing yourself to feel guilty.
@kerritho the whole alcohol thing can be dicey for me, too! I drink pretty much everyday and do fine if I stick to 1 or 2. But the 3rd one is almost ALWAYS a bad idea and involves really poor eating choices. I do occasionally abstain or work toward only having 1 for several days in a row. Takes the all-important mindset for me to pull that off, though.
@TeresaW1020 I am taking this advice and just moving along to a new and better day! I didn't make the water goal and don't really care to guzzle a ton o' aqua just to do that, at this late stage, so I'll be planning better for tomorrow!2 -

No sugar challenge
Me: 9
Sugar: 1
My no sugar challenge is aimed at reducing high sugar treats like chocolate, cake, biscuits etc. I'm very happy with where I am with this. Being back at work is stressful and tiring; these are my triggers for sugary treats. Usually I would have several snaccidents a day but so far only 1
I'm still looking for it but, as other team mates have said MINDSET is crucuial. I'm in a good place at the moment so long may it continue.
I also did my Zumba class online yesterday. Good fun so going to make that I regularly attend.
I'm loving the habit tracker and the colouring in calendar poster -thanks for sharing these great motivators.3
