5/4 steps: 8,009
Went for a walk yesterday and met my daily step goal of 6,000 steps so that was good. I should really get myself back to the gym today though. Working out is like cleaning the house for me, I hate it. I dread it. I have no idea how to change that mindset.
@lindamtuck2018
I do know how to use the various machines and have tried different ones. I wish I enjoyed exercising but I barely tolerate it lol. My current routine (when I go) is to warm up on the rowing machine (that is the cardio I hate the least!) then I move over to the dumbbell area and do four solid compound exercises (bent over rows, dead lifts, squats, overhead press). While not a complex or long routine, I find it challenges my body and gives me a good workout. Now I just need to make myself go on a regular basis!
@Poobah1972
I really love reading your updates, your positive attitude is infectious!
@Megan_smartiepants1970
Thinking of you and wishing you a quick recovery!
@TheresaM787
You're a fantastic motivator for our team, I look forward to seeing your posts every day. Thank you!4 -
@lindamtuck2018 - you are doing so good with the steps and inspire me to push myself even when I am not feeling my best
@Poobah1972 - your home gym sounds like it’s really starting to come together. You will have to post some pictures when it’s all done.
@Bluetail6 - those steps ... wow 🤩
@roz0810 - nice loss! Enjoy your visit with your mom2 -
What’s your NSV?
Immediately, my answer inside my head was negative. My weight is up and I am feeling bad so it’s easy to go there. But when I started this journey one year ago, I hated exercise and allowed myself to think I didn’t need it. That has slowly changed and my New Year’s goal and the habit that I am most trying to improve by reading Atomic Habits is to become a person who exercises. I still don’t like it but I am longer fooling myself that I can be the person (healthy and fit) that I want to be without it. Though my steps have dropped off with the rower, I am still rowing even though it would be easy for me to say that I’m not feeling well and blowing it off. So, my NSV is a mind shift. I am not all the way there yet but I am getting there and I am far from where I started.6 -
@lmf1012 - Thank you, I must admit i get a little excited from time to time... Today I would say I'm slightly subdued. lol It's a my pleasure to inspire though, so Thank you very much.
@azkunk - Absolutely, when it's all said and done, there will definitely be some home Gym pics!
Unfortunately there is a large shelving unit, in the Room with all my fiance's keep sakes, that she is not in the mood to move again... But it's going to have to go at some point. I'm just waiting till she's more acceptable to the fact. eek. Cause it would seem weird to have an exercise room and a large shelving unit of random stuff in the exercise room no? 😆

@roz0810
Wowwww!!! Huge loss 🎉🎉 Have fun at your mom’s house
@Bluetail6
Lee, that’s a phenomenal step count!! 👏👏 I love seeing those high step counts. I’m no where near that level, but one day I’ll get there.
@Poobah1972
Another terrific walk!!! Love your commitment 🙌🙌 lots of new exercise equipment to enjoy.
@lindamtuck2018
Way to go Linda 🥳🎉🎉 all ✅✅✅!! Your daughter is very smart, just like her momma, look at ALL of the measures of success (not just the scale): healthier foods, better portion control, more steps, better sleep.... Glad to hear you have an appointment.
@lmf1012
Thank you!!! You’re too sweet 🤗. Not only did you meet your step goal, YOU CRUSHED IT 👏👏
@azkunk
It’s a huge mind shift. Andrea, you’re doing wonderful. Day by day. Congratulations on rowing! That’s an intense workout 🤩1 -

@TheresaM787
The way I see it... If I do intense cardio every morning, and lift weights 3 nights a week... In 2 years time I will look like someone who does intense cardio every morning and lifts weights 3 nights a week.
As Einstein said... "The definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing over and over, and then expecting different results"
Thus changing what you do will automatically change who you are.

good morning everyone. happy cinco de mayo. i hope everyone who celebrates does so safely. sorry i missed last night. just as i was reaching for the laptop someone up the street took out the power to the block. i called it a night and shortly after i went to bed the lights came back on. i just turned them off again and went back to bed.
@Beautyofdreams your blog sent chills up my spine. what you wrote yesterday turned me white. i'm very sorry you went thru that. i'm glad some of it is over. what breed of horse did you have?
@lindamtuck2018 excellent job with your numbers. the way you keep going with your leg is inspiring. i love walking in the rain, myself. i feel like it cleanses the soul, especially when i don't have an umbrella. it can get a bit cold, but it feels so good.
@azkunk congrats on the graduation. i'm glad you got a better appointment. i don't think i'd have the nerve to break down to someone like that. thank you.
@Poobah1972 you're already doing so much. i'm impressed. good luck with your gym and good luck with your fiance.
@lmf1012 good job keeping active without the gym. i want to get into a gym but my doc still says no so i just have a few hand weights at home. i hope you can find a way to get enjoyment out of it.
@Bluetail6 i hope you have a blast with your training group. are you going to go after another tri?
checkin for star wars day 5/4:
steps - 3112 very low for me.
calories - about 1550. only drank 64 oz of water. i had oj for breakfast, national oj day, half glass of lemonade for lunch and a full glass of lemonade, 0 calorie this time, at dinner. that's a rarity for me.
exercise - no, again. i've been starting to lag on it lately. kind of like @lmf1012 and the gym. i'm finding myself having to force a walk even though i have plenty of time for one.
my daughter and i went shopping for chipotle gouda cheese to put on burgers and so we donned our star wars shirts and went out. we ate lunch at applebee's and actually left food. i went in with a plan to split my meal because everyone gives huge portions now. it was actually a decent portion but i still didn't want 1000 calories at lunch. i ate about 3/4 and drank 1/2 of the lemonade. i didn't think to order the 0 calorie tea instead.

My NSV is I hope to be a role model for my kids by working out and staying active instead of spending time on the couch. They are forced to eat the healthy dinners I make most nights to balance the junk they also eat.3

@red1185
Fantastic steps!!! You kept increasing every day 👏👏👏
@Poobah1972
Love that! Yes 🙌 🙌 Incredible enthusiasm
My Non-Scale Victory
I relied on my NSV list whenever the scale didn’t react the way I wanted it to.
- Drinking seltzer- at least five cups a day, with a goal of 8 cups (when I began I didn’t drink water)
- Eating more vegetables
- Eating healthier
- Finally exercising ( that used to be a bad word)
- Going for walks or at least walking around the house more
- Sleeping better (I used to have insomnia, going for several days at a time without any sleep)
- Stopped (well reduced) late night snacking (devouring)
- All of you! My support team, encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s successes 🤗3 -

Thank you for this! Sometimes I feel like I am the only person on MFP that hates exercise, literally all forms of it. It drives me crazy to read articles or hear people say "find something you enjoy doing or love to do and it won't feel like exercise". There is nothing physical that I enjoy or love to do.
With that said... like you, I want to become a person who exercises. I know it is good for me and is needed to reach some of my ultimate goals.4 -

Sorry I'm late, @lindamtuck2018 .
I am happy with the .2 loss this week! It has been a very rough two weeks. We had to move all of our furniture and closet contents, remove blinds/curtains, etc. in three bedrooms, closets and bathroom for painting. We had all of the trim and doors in the house painted as well, so a lot of disruption. I couldn't even find my scale last week. Couldn't get to my kitchen during the day much.
Got takeout and fast food quite a bit, too. My daughter had oral surgery last Friday to get all four wisdom teeth out. She did well. She still has some swelling and bruising on her face. On Friday, she could only have liquids and things like jello, ice cream, smoothies, pudding, etc. Oh, my! That was so hard for me! We've been getting takeout because she has to have higher calorie soft foods this week.
I chose my foods very carefully these past two weeks. It has been so hard. My husband, as most of you know, is a big snacker especially at night. We have all kinds of "goodies" in the house, and boy oh boy, do I know that they are there!!! I've felt a bit aggravated this week with it all because he can eat whatever he wants and never gains a pound.
Even though I've had a lot of steps, I have not been on my treadmill doing the inclines in about a month!!! I was on the treadmill at least 5-6 days a week before my surgery on April 5. I couldn't get to it last week because we had to use that room for storage. No excuses now though. The room has been cleared out since yesterday.
I guess I should look at it like this. In the past, I would have been totally derailed and wouldn't have gotten back on track with all that has gone on this spring for me. I really have been almost the same weight for about a month. Now, I have to get back on track with my exercise and not eat those exercise calories back. That will get that scale moving down again!
As always, I am very thankful for everyone here! I have read all comments, and sorry that I haven't replied:)

Hello my lovelies!!!
Sorry for the delayed post- I kept saying every night "I'll get to it!" and then of course, I didn't, heehee.
So I'll do this over a couple of posts to keep myself on track!
Hi! I'm Tanya, I am a 33 year old Brit living in Toronto, Canada! I live with my lovely wife and my 3 kitties.
I have had weight issues all my life- starting from disordered eating as a child/teen, and then falling into food addiction in my later teen years. I have yo-yoed for many years. In 2011, I used a weight loss group to go down from 315lb to 175. I was addicted to the accolades and the attention. However, once I got to my target weight, all that stuff stopped, and I went right back to my food addiction. At my highest weight, I was about 375lb and miserable.
Anyway, I found recovery for my food addiction, and I knew I needed extra accountability, and that's when this group came in! I joined f2f in November of 2020 and so far I am down approx 80lb (just under, due to this week, but that's another post lol). I am so grateful for the Downsizers (and a brief stint for the last couple of months in another group). I have had some health problems since December, which meant time off work, a lot of time not moving around, and my weight loss slowing down. I am grateful to have you guys here for accountability, and a place to feel safe enough to share my stuff!
I am so so so happy to be back with Downsizers, thankyou everyone for the kind welcome back, I am very fortunate to have you guys! Especially Linda and Megan, 2 amazing women who do so much service in this group, who kept in touch regularly and made me feel really loved!
So that's me in a nutshell, I can't wait to get to know everyone better, especially all the newbies. Stick around, ask questions, let us get to know you! This is an amazing group and we are all here for each other- through the good, bad, and the ugly!

May goals!
* Drink at least 100oz water a day (including my big glass in the morning)
* Track all food (starting from May 6th)
* Go for 2 good walks a week
* Stop eating after 8pm, no sneaky snacks!
* Study at least 2 days a week
I don't set a weight loss goal for the month, because I believe that my weight loss is just a positive consequence of doing the do things. However, some weeks just don't go my way, so I trust the process and take away the control that weight has on me.
Saying that, I would love to be in the 280's by the end of the month, but if I don't, I am not going to beat myself up for it!
Step goal- please put me down for 4000 steps a day! I know I will get them on work days, but it's an encouragement to get me moving a bit more on my off days.

+6lb -_-
Firstly, I am so sorry for the big gain that will knock us for this week It was my birthday yesterday and I ate more fatty foods than I usually do, and I really think my first day at work caused a lot of water gain too- because I am hurting in places that I never knew existed!! haha. I have been off work for 4 months, and after 8 hours on my feet, running around, oh boy! My neck and shoulders, as well as my feet, are in particularly bad shape.
Thankfully I have a few days off to recuperate!
I am just really glad I didn't see a 300-number again!
Today is eating the last of my birthday foods (including a sugar free cake that my wife bought me) but tomorrow I will be 100% back on track with my food, and looking forward to hopefully a good loss in the next week or 2
Steps so far this week
Sunday- 4021
Monday- 12,421 (see what I mean??????? haha)
Tuesday- 4017
Today is still in progress, will update that tomorrow

Oh I love this.
Ok so, so far, my NSV that have happened are:
* I can put my shoes on without help
* I can CROSS MY LEGS!!!! This is a big one for me- because I remember when I lost weight in 2011, just one day I could do it, and it was amazing. I am not quite able to do it 100% comfortably, and I can only do left over right (my right leg doesn't have the flexibility yet lol) but it is amazing progress!
* I am down to a 3xl in tops and pants
* I can walk 2.5km without dying, including walking up hills
* I can walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath or pain.
NSV I am working towards
* To be able to do squats
* To be able to jog/run for a mile (challenge set, and would like to complete by Christmas)
* To be able to work a full shift without being in pain
* To be able to put the milk in the fridges at work, and to be able to do the food pull (a part of my evening work) without having to sit down
* To be able to paint my toenails!
I am sure more will come!5 -

Happy (belated) Birthday Tanya 🥳
Great choices of goals. I love what you wrote, “ I don't set a weight loss goal for the month, because I believe that my weight loss is just a positive consequence of doing the do things.” 🤗 that’s a beautiful and positive mindset. Thank you for sharing.

So very encouraging NSVs! Glad you’re here 💐1 -

To continue my crazy week, today, I was offered a promotion to Director of Quality Improvement at my hospital. I knew my boss was moving on in June and I literally had a 30 minute conversation about possibly taking the role as an interim position when he left. I don’t even need to go out and buy mid-weight loss interview clothes.9

Fantastic day today! Look at all those ✅ Nice going Ashley!! Glad to hear that you had your second dose today.
@azkunk
Congratulations Andrea!!! That’s amazing 🤩 what a great way to find the day 🥳1 -
@Megan_smartiepants1970
1. Peloton- 45 minutes and 12 miles, moderate effort ✅
2. Afternoon walk- 2 miles, total daily steps 7,200 ✅ (wanted to get 8,000- so close, need to plan better🤔)
3. Drink 8 cups of water ❌ (only seven cups- felt like I was going to float away 😆)
4. Stay within calorie budget (track everything that I eat and drink) ✅
Tomorrow I need to meal plan for next week. My husband isn’t a fan of grilled chicken breast/tenders. He’d rather have deep fried Buffalo chicken (not baked/air fried). It’s getting harder to make one meal that the whole family can eat (and will want to eat). He likes just a few things and not one of them are low calorie: burgers (chuck/ not lean beef) with fries and onion rings, Buffalo chicken tenders, calzones and mozzarella sticks, those are his big 3. On the flip side, the kids will eat almost anything. Tomorrow I need to research some ideas that he’ll happily eat. If anyone has a magic wand that I may borrow (to alter his mindset), please let me know. 🤦🏻♀️😆😇4 -
@azkunk
It is so easy to go for the negative thoughts. I have found I really have to push myself to think positive. It is so great to remind ourselves on the other stuff we have accomplished beside weight loss. You have come so far this year with your exercises. Fitting walks in and now rowing. Great determination. Congrats on the job promotion.1 -
@rwood566
Well done on the Applebee’s meal. I have always read when going to a restaurant to ask fora takeaway when they bring your meal. That way you can split the meal before you start eating. Note I said read, I need to but that in to practice if we are ever able to eat in a restaurant again.
@rlaskey2
You are setting an example for your kids. Those wonderful meals you make is showing them both love and a healthy example.

@TheresaM787
I think I am going to make a list and post it where I can see it all the time. Your NSVs are great and an awesome reminder the scale is not the only measurement of success. I don’t envy you meal planning for an entire family. It is hard enough with just me and the old fella.
@iradi8
Nice loss! You did great in spite of a crazy week. Hopefully things settle down and you can get totally back on plan.
@littleflutterby
First of all, Happy yesterday birthday! I am so glad you are back. Never apologize about gaining weight especially birthday pounds as they don’t count. Seriously though, they will be gone in a week. I like the idea of future NSV’s. It is funny you mentioned painting your nails, I always had to get hubby to do mine but now I can. Keep with your program and you will soon be making a new list as your existing list will be done.
I apologize if I didn’t respond to everyone’s post. I read everyone and you are all working hard at this crazy journey we are on. Thanks everyone as your support means the world to me. ❤️
