Lol we have ate out a lot more then expected during the move. But that's ok, we are getting back on this bandwagon. Look forward to catching up on everyone's progress! π Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I was confident I was going to be able to squeeze out a loss so I am disappointed as my weight was down yesterday. Oh well I will keep trying. Had another awesome beach day with my friend while the kids were at school. Trying to cram in all my fun without Kids before they are out of school next week and they cramp my style lol!
Don't sweat it Rachel, you doing the right thing, and the closer we are to maintenance the more often these days will occur. sounds like you had fun, and that's important too.Aqualang26 wrote: Β»Tomorrow I have a day date with my husband. We have a caretaker for Dad and my mom's watching the baby. We'll hit the beach, get lunch, and do an escape room. I'm EXCITED! It will be our first day out since the pandemic, now that our vaccines have had time to be fully effective.
I'm not going to track carbs or calories and will surely be way over both. It will be a day of indulgence. I do that every 6-8 weeks or so.
It's okay to do just that... Let your hair down as they say, and have the time of your lives! Keep us posted on the details (well not the sexy details of course). Excited for you Laura!

Exercise Neighborhood walk and Lake walk
Did another day of 2 walks! The kids and I walked down to a playground that's a little farther than the one at the school. They had never been there before so I thought it would be exciting for them. They had a lot of fun, even though it was pretty hot out. Then in the early evening I met my parents at the lake for our usual walk.
Today my kids have summer camp so we won't be walking to a playground today. I'm going to go to the lake by myself this morning while the kids are gone, though!6 -
Goood Morning Dazzling Downsizer's .... Not much to report here other than I have decided to take the day off from walking outside ... I was up a lot last night due to my hips hurting ...I will do some kind of dvd here at home ...Will try to resume to our walks tomorrow if my hips don't keep me up all night5

I was looking up exercises because due to a knee injury, I noticed I was leaning forward when I walked. I came across this information and found it very enlightening. Thought you might like it!
Q: Dear Uncle Wang,
Every morning when I go for a run in the park I see old Chinese men walking backwards and clapping their hands.
Why do they do that?
A:There is a very old Chinese belief that walking backwards for 100 steps is equal to walking forwards for 1,000 steps.
Chinese have been walking backwards to maintain good health since the ancient times.
Walking backwards exercises muscles that are not used in ordinary walking, especially in the back, waist, thighs, knees and lower legs.
Walking backwards is more tiring than walking forwards and in general it will give you a better cardio workout and will burn more calories.
According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), walking backwards is a good way to relax one's back muscles; it can relieve back pain and can also benefit the kidneys.
Elderly people have weaker muscles and backward walking can strengthen different muscles than walking forward does.
Backward walking is also said to be ideal for people who have knee problems or injuries as it puts less strain on and requires less range of motion from knee joints.
Walking backwards raises your heart rate higher than when you walk forward, meaning that you can get better cardiovascular and calorie-burning benefits in a shorter period of time.
Some studies have also found that backward walking can have beneficial effects on your brain.
According to some researchers, when you walk backwards, it sharpens your thinking skills and enhances cognitive control. When you break your routine, it stimulates your brain in a different way.
It can also enhance your vision, since you move in an atypical way.
Some people will also clap their hands as they walk, believing it is good for their blood flow, and as a result, it improves their immune systems.
In TCM it is believed that the palm of the hand has many acupuncture points and clapping is a way to massage these points. This helps to expel, through the fingertips, the cold and toxins in the body.
According to TCM theory, the most beneficial method is to clap your hands in front and behind you, every four to five steps.
These days, backward walking, or "retro-walking," is also becoming increasingly popular in the West and Japan, where people practice it to build muscles and improve sports performance.
Some superstitious Chinese also believe that walking backwards will help them to correct their past mistakes and sins.

Quickie note this morning. Hopped on the scale this morning, after my good eating and zoo day, and gained 3.6 lbs. Went to the boy's room and weighed again. Lost 1 lb of that. I wrote down the first weight, wiping out 2 weeks of work. It's ok. It happens and I'll move on. Have a wonderful day.5

@363days Interesting on the whole walking backwards thing. I'm already get a rep for being the weird big guy sweating up a storm around the community in which I live at 4:45 in the morning. Could you imagine if I started doing the laps backwards. I could get committed. π3

@BRGking
Fantastic loss!
@Poobah1972
Great NSVβs! What time do you go walking? I just got back and it was brutal. Chugging water as I type. The only time I have had leg cramps at night is when I was pregnant. I think we can rule that out for you. π. Seriously, they are painful. I hope upping the electrolyte helps. Wow! Knocking 21 seconds off your best is awesome. Are you considering doing 7 laps yet?
@lmf1012
I am wondering if the humidity is causing some water retention. I was talking to my daughter and she suggested this could be a reason. I know with myself the scales is up 2 pounds since the humidity started and my eating is on point. A new rowing machine is exciting! It gives a good workout.
@Tazaria87
Two walks again! Well done! Enjoy your lake walk.
@Megan_smartiepants1970
Taking a break sounds like a good idea. Trying to sleep with pain is awful. I have become so used to it that I seems normal to me now.
@363days
That is very interesting. I am going to go up and down my hall backwards a few times just to see if I can do it. At our old place there was a big hill to get up to the buildings. A guy used to run down the hill and backwards up the hill.
@rwood566
Sounds like you are retaining water. I am sure it will go down over a few days. Do you use Happy Scale?

It has crossed my mind, but more like how much more time shall I shave to shave off and still be able to get to work in time. But for sure crossed my mind today in fact.

@lindamtuck2018 I use a heavy duty scale from My Weigh. It goes up to 700 lbs with a 1% error allowance. I've been thinking of getting a new one that stops at 350 or 330.
Today is Donald Duck day. Don't know if we're supposed to talk like him or watch him. You can eat some strawberry rhubarb pie while you're talking like him. That will make an interesting sight. Tomorrow is ice tea day and friday is corn on the cob day. Both are easy to plan for.5 -
Hey all,
Wow we are having super warm weather here still, been melting whilst doing garden work last few days, I must be mad to do such things when it's so hot and feeling even hotter cause of TOM haha. I've been eating extra calories past two days, but still under cals for expected 0.5lb loss however. Felt a bit ropey today, but in a few days I'm sure I'll feel better. I'm booked to get my first COVID vaccine at the weekend, so I'm hoping that I won't have a bad reaction to it, I'm somewhat nervous about it to be honest as I've heard varying things.
In other thoughts, had varying conversations lately about stopping the meal prep service for varying reasons. It's still giving me structure and having to stress a little less over calories to an extent and I do like most of the stuff, but long term I'm not certain on it's viability for varying reasons like nutritional value, portion sizes, cost etc. Household wise, we can end up buying extra things here and there to make the meals more substantial which can defeat the purpose on top of buying things for the weekend etc. I suppose with having done it for 6 months, it's more of a even number to stop and take back the reigns.
Of course, meal prep is possible without such services, I've just gotten into a bit of a rhythm from it. Whilst I'm not the same person as I was at the start of the year, I still worry that I'll end up slipping into past habits more and start putting the weight I've lost back on. I do track all the non prep related food whenever I can in the weekdays and weekend already, so I've being doing similar to a certain extent, it would just mean like, every bite in the whole week.
Anyone got any thoughts or done similar transitions?5 -

@TheresaM787
I pretty much always listen to music when walking-unless I'm out on a trail that's close to nowhere-then I'm good with natural sounds and/or silence.
I'm generally out of touch with technology, but I have a Garmin watch that does music and a bluetooth earbud to go with it (I use one so I can have half an ear on what's going on around me). It sure beats the old days of the Walkman with wired π―headphones or the 20 pound boombox blaring on my shoulderπ (ok, maybe this didn't really happen) and one cassette tape playing over and over and over again (this did happen).3 -

I went from firmly meal prepping all of my food to eating regular food sold at the store and honestly it was a bad choice. Without the weekly pre made structure I started gaining and when I gained I moved leading to a 3month free for all that caused me to gain 30lbs. I'm still trying to find my way back to that meal prepping routine I had. I would be losing a lot faster.

You leave at 5:30? Ok, so many questions:- What time do you wake up?
- What time do you go to bed?
- HOW did you get your daughter to walk that long with you?
- Can you convince my kids to do the same?
@rlaskey2
Amazing high step day ππ»ππ» I'm so sorry to hear about your internet connection, that's annoying - good news though, look at all of those steps and your shish kabob dinner. MMMmmmm
@lindamtuck2018
Your granddaughter is so precious! That was so cute. I hope your voice returns and you feel better soon, have you tried the ol' hot tea with lemon and honey (not sure if that is an American "cure")- my grandma used to put a little brandy in with the tea, although years later my mom confessed that was just to put us to sleep π
All green! π― Woo hooππ»ππ» Great sleep and look at all of those steps!!
@BRGking
Congratulations on your HUGE loss and incredible step day ππ»ππ»
@Poobah1972
Way to go with your new personal best!!!! I'm sorry to hear about the leg cramps and restless leg syndrome, hopefully the increased electrolytes will do the trick. You're doing amazing - every day ππ»ππ»
@lmf1012
Wow, another super high step day!!! Congrats on getting a rower π it seems to be the machine of the year. This morning on my walk, I saw the crew team rowing (drums beating, coach encouraging).
@Tazaria87
Another all β dayππ»ππ» That's so great that you took the kids to a new playground, and that you are still going for a second walk ππ»ππ» I hope the kids had a great day at camp.
Great question Linda! Something new that I started today. I am moderating the amount of walking I'm doing on days when I plan on getting on the bike also. I am also listening to inspirational podcasts or audiobooks, tracking calories, trying to stick to eating healthier, getting in exercise and as much water as I can before I float away.2 -
@Megan_smartiepants1970
I'm so very sorry to hear about your hips. I hope you feel better in the morning π€ I'm glad you are taking a rest.
@363days
Thank you for sharing that! It was very interesting. I remember, years (ok, decades ago) hearing that walking backwards is better for you. I was always afraid of falling though π€¦π»ββοΈ I think I"ll try this in the house tonight- with clapping. Have you tried it yet?
Thank you, I thought it was funny too π
@rwood566
Yes, you are right. It will come right back off again. I'm sure it's a bit frustrating, I know. Please know thought that you reinforced good habits at the zoo, walking and not eating their food. Those two things alone did more good for you π€
Thank you for sharing the funny daily holidays! I thought you were going to say that since it's Donald Duck day, you should walk around with no pants π²

Congratulations on your loss ππ»ππ» well done. Have fun doing Zumba during nap time π€©

That's pretty impressive that you are still gardening in this hot and humid weather. I've never used a meal prep service, they look awesome though. I don't know if this service is offered by you, at our local grocery stores they have refrigerated bins with all of the ingredients needed for a specific meal along with the recipe card. I do spend quite a bit of time researching new recipes that I hope my family will like. A lot of the meal prep sites will give you the recipes for free, but then you need to get your own ingredients. Let us know what you decide π€©

I kind of expected that because I was up a little the last two days. I suspect the strength training since others seem to have seen that in the past. Hopefully it'll be back down next week!4 -
Hate to post and run... Gota run. Chest/Triceps and shoulders tonight. ππ€

@lindamtuck2018 Yes, I've walked backwards for a few steps in the past but didn't realize it was doing any good. @TheresaM787 I tried it today in the house and the dogs were really confused and kept getting in the way. I like the idea that it will help my knees and my brain so I'm going to keep trying
@poohbah1972 haha - I'm with you...I'm not ready to take it outdoors, yet.
@emking517 congrats on your weight loss
@iradi8 I bet you feel good doing the strength training. It seems to help my frame of mind when I work on increasing muscle.

I decided to go back to zumba today after staying out for a couple of months from when I fell on the ice. I was very excited to get back in the groove. With the help of acupuncture I think I'm ready to do more. I got to the class and the room was empty. They have changed the schedule but I'm going to hit it tomorrow morning. I ended up doing the stair stepper and NEVER figured out how to work it....I just kept stepping.4

That's hilarious about the dogs being confused. I did about 200 steps backwards. It felt a bit strange, but I did it in my house so I felt secure. I needed to get to 10,000 steps, so my last two hundred steps were backwards steps (apparently my fitness tracker is a bit slow).
Today, I created a Summer Screentime checklist for the kidabunks to earn screentime. It worked pretty well today, hoping it goes well tomorrow too. I was able to get a few items ticked off the checklist: 3.5 mile walk β , ride β , arms β , tracking and under β β , one load of laundry β , read with each kidabunk β β . I need to start decluttering again. I feel like I'm always decluttering, obviously I'm not doing it well enough or I wouldn't have to keep doing it. My sister has this "toss everything" policy. I tend to hold onto things. I'm in the process of listening to The Happiness Project. It keeps getting mentioned on some of the podcasts. One of the first things they suggest is to declutter. Does anyone have any decluttering secrets? Other than "does it spark joy?" π2 -

I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling the pain during & after your walks. I need to suck it up buttercup. You both are amazing inspirations! That's another great benefit of morning walks on IF, not peeing. I am so envious of all of your alone walking time together. π€
Yes I leave the house between 5:30 and 5:45am....My alarm is set at 5:00am...we both get up change clothes ..put up our hair or leave it down ....brush our teeth ...and out the door we go .... We usually go to bed around 11pm .....She has PE in school where she has to do PE logs and send them in .... and she also loves our walks ....she is like me in many ways ...she gets up and just walks with me and we talk and talk and talk so times goes by fast ...On my way to convince your kids to walk with you, me , my daughter and my husky ....I am hoping I can resume to our walks in the morning ...I took a pain pill this afternoon and crashed ...just woke up about 5 minutes ago ...Tomorrow is the last day of my daughter's home school.... she has all A's and one B ....Proud mama ...I still can't not believe she will be a Junior in August3 -

So Iβve gotten on the scale a couple of times this week just to see how things look. Iβm trying SO HARD not to get discouraged. I was down between 158.8-159.2 last week. Now Iβm back up to 161. My guess is that itβs water or salt, etcβ¦but that doesnβt make me feel any better. Both my best friend and my therapist said, βit might be muscle.β I doubt it. Iβm trying to stay positive that my pants are fitting better, which is goodβ¦but stillβ¦.soooo frustrating. Iβm going to the beach this Saturday thru next Thursday, so I was hoping to see a little bit better result, but I do have some NSVs that Iβm proud of.
@Megan_smartiepants1970 Steps for this week, so far:
6/6: 2,584
6/7: 7,355
6/8: 9,624
6/9: 2,513
My NSVs are that 1. My pants are fitting better
2. Iβve gone above my step goal (6K) twice this week.
3. I didnβt indulge in an entire giant Hershey bar, but just took a bite
4. Iβve stayed from wine for most of the week
5. Iβve come in at, or slightly below, my calorie goal several times this week.
6. I walked on my treadmill for an hour yesterday!5
