Shari, I am curious about the games you when you get together with your friends. Do you play board games? About the gym, you are in no way a failure. I am sure your progress is meaningful and significant, just based on your previous posts. You are an inspiration!

Today is day 4 of my streak. I am pleased with my choices and points. It motivates to strive for a day 5 streak tomorrow, even with the pizza in the evening. One piece of pizza is doable. I think I will eat a salad before our friends arrive. But I also have to calculate and plan for the glass wine I will have with my friend tomorrow. I got some to do items taken care of today (one big one that I have been avoiding) but still need to prep for our guests tomorrow. I am fairly certain I will get most of it done at some level at least.

My DH does not enjoy games very much, I do much better than he does, but we have several friends that love to play games. They we need to keep the games simple for DH. We often play Sequence, Phase 10, and Rustik. Sometimes we venture into Settlers of Catan.

A four day streak is fantastic Paula! I blew it yesterday as we went out for Chinese food. Not good, but I was careful with my portion size. I feel like I ate less than I typically would.

Not sure what today will bring just yet. A few chores around the house for sure!

Shari, It has been a long time since I played games with any regularity. I used to love Trivial Pursuit, but now would probably be terrible in that game because I am not too "hip" or in tune with popular culture. We used to play games with relatives on Christmas after dinner but haven't gone out for Christmas in a few years. Both John and I used to enjoy the Christmas day games with our family.

John and I worked most of the day prepping our home for our friends' visit. I was proud of what we accomplished. Our floors really needed to be cleaned because of all the yuck that John brings in from walking Buster in the icky weather (ice melt salt, mud, etc). I was able to swiffer our floors in the kitchen and living room/dining room from my wheelchair. It isn't easy to do but I managed to do ok along with all other cleaning efforts. These friends are so nice and easy guests, it wouldn't have mattered to them if I cleaned or not, but it mattered to me. We had a great evening with them and agreed we need to get together more often.

I used all of my daily points and almost bankrupted my remaining weekly points...6 remaining and the week is over. I cannot count today as day 5 of my streak so starting tomorrow....back to day 1 of my streak!

You had a workout cleaning the floors Paula! That will compensate and maybe not impact the pizza and wine you enjoyed. I am sure you can string together another 4 days!

Yesterday we rewired a lamp. DH's parent left behind a floor lamp and the bulb burned out quite a while ago. The problem was that we couldn't find a replacement bulb for it. It had a very large base. We looked in stores and online with no success. We did find wiring at IKEA for very cheap and bought it. We took out the old and inserted the new wiring and socket and now we have a working lamp again. We could have purchased a new lamp, this one is probably 75 years old. But we like vintage, so it was a good project. I polished up the metal and it looks better than it did before.

Then we went to the gym and watched church online from home. It was a good day.

I too love vintage items Shari. I'll bet your lamp is beautiful. I have a lamp in my bedroom that my parents had in their bedroom from 1963. I suspect it might have to be rewired soon and am pretty sure Craig can do it. There were 2 other lamps matching to the one I have. When those lamps needed to be rewired some years ago (before I knew Craig could do the job), I gave those lamps to a local "handyman" who never returned them and vanished. It broke my heart. Craig and I tried to track down this so-called handyman but never could find him.

I am reluctant to call today Day 1 of a streak, but it is close. I did ok but tapped into a few weekly points already. I feel certain I will be fine tomorrow. I have a lot of reading to do for my Tuesday classes and didn't read at all today because of watching football. The Philadelphia Eagles won their play off game today and are headed to the Super Bowl. John is so happy, and so am I!

Paula- When I read that someone took off with your lights, I was so sad. I can't believe it! I don't know what is wrong with some people. Getting taken advantage is so disheartening.

I didn't watch the Eagle's game as I was on the phone, but DH watched the Chiefs win their game. I will watch the Super Bowl with him. I will be cheering for the Eagles alongside John.

I did okay eating yesterday, so I need a repeat of that for today.

John says he looks forward to cheering the Eagles on with you Shari! If the Chiefs win I will eventually be ok with that too, as their coach Andy Reid is a former Eagles coach and I sort of have always had a soft spot in my heart for him. He sure has done exceptionally well for the Chiefs.

Happy to be able to count today as the first day of my new streak. I had no problem staying within my points and felt satisfied all day. I did some of my to do list but got tied up on the phone for a total of over 2 hours trying to rectify a glitch in John's medical insurance coverage. His coverage is good and solid, but someone in some department messed up his insurance number resulting in an issue with a payment. I got bounced around from one department to another in both the medical billing office and the insurance provider. I am still not sure that the issue is resolved as it could take up to 2 months to find out for sure. Ah, the joys of bureaucracy!

    shariletts Posts: 1,039 Member
Let's hope that the glitch is resolved for John after the two hours of conversations (and I am sure being on hold too).

I had a good day of eating too. I have reduced my calories slightly and hope that helps to start some weight loss. I was building muscle and needed to eat more to make sure I could build up the muscle. I am super happy with where I am at. Now I can work on losing some fat. I will eat a bit less and work out less intensely. Maintain the muscle mass and see if I can shake the fat now. I should know in a week or so if I need to lower my calories more. I hope not. I will be fine with slower weight loss if it means I can eat the same amount I did yesterday.

I have my routine blood tests today and I need to fast. Funny that when you are told to fast you feel hungry! My test is at 8:20am, so I will have to wait for breakfast until I get home just before 9am. I can have water, but I am not sure that will be very satisfying.

Shari, It is so good to read that you are so happy with where you are now. With your successes and progress through your valiant efforts, you are sure to see the remaining progress you desire. I expect you will be pleased with your blood test results too.

I did well today (streak day 2), but it was a bit of a struggle with some mid afternoon hunger. I finally satisfied myself with some raw organic cauliflower. It filled me up, and I enjoyed the crunch. Today turned out to be an easier day for my to do list because a planned visit from some friends got postponed because of their illness. I am sorry they are sick but glad they knew enough to stay home and not spread whatever it is they have. The "found time" gave me the opportunity to take care of some tasks I have been waiting to do.

I did better with my steps yesterday, I hope to be able to get them in again today. It helped to stand on the spot for 5 minutes every hour. If I can do that 6 times per day, that will be very helpful. I get 2-15minute breaks at work, so using them this way will be a healthy choice for me. I think I will get a call back from the dr. I was able to see my lab results online and there were some abnormalities. Mostly with the urine sample. I am going to ask to give a new sample, I really struggled to give one yesterday. I know that is too much information (sorry).

I don't think I could eat raw cauliflower Paula! I do love crunchy foods, but I have never been a fan of cauliflower.

There seems to be a lot people getting sick, I hope your friend recovers quickly.

I try to stand at least once an hour too Shari. Spending so much of my day in a wheelchair can be quite uncomfortable to begin with and increasingly uncomfortable without moving from the wheelchair fairly often. I do move my legs a great deal as I navigate using the chair. I don't use my arms to move the big wheels on each side of the chair but rather have removed the foot rests and use my legs and feet to make the chair move.

I had another good day so streak day 3 today. Tomorrow 2 friends from my old church are coming for lunch. We are ordering from the menu of a nearby restaurant, and one of the ladies will pick up the order. I am still deciding what I will order. I am leaning towards a grilled chicken sub with roasted peppers, basil, and tomatoes. The bread will take up a lot of points, but I am thinking I will not eat all of the bread. I could opt for a similar salad as I have done in the past, but somehow the sub is appealing to me. Will let you know what I decide!

DW, hope you are ok! Haven't heard from you in a while.

I was up too late yesterday so I had a sleep in today. I still feel tired. I had a long day at work with a few meetings right near the end. Hopefully today isn't too demanding as far as tasks go. I strayed off my food plan yesterday so I need to get right back on it today. Glad that is all behind me now.

Enjoy your lunch Paula. It will be wonderful to have a visit with friends.

I opted for a salad for lunch which wasn't terribly high in points. But it came with garlic bread so that raised my points as did a glass of delicious red wine. I logged all of my food today and tapped into 7 extra points from my extra weekly points. Since there are only 2 days remaining in this week, my points should still be ok. It was well worth it to me to enjoy the salad and the bread and the wine! The visit with these 2 friends went well, and as usual the time flew by. I was very tired by the time they left. They offered to help me clean up, but I declined saying John and I could do it. John and I did well, but by early evening I was ready for a short nap.

We have another inter-church meeting this coming Sunday. Surprisingly the prez has been pretty good about most of our pre-meeting prep conversations. I hope her relatively pleasant attitude continues.

Glad your visit went well Paula. I committed to dry January, I did it last year too, and today is the last day. I need to make a decision about whether to keep that streak going. I haven't decided yet, but I think I may have a one day exception. But just one.

We are expecting snow today so I am not that excited about my drive into the office. That makes driving not fun at all.

Congrats on your dry January Shari. My friend's DH did dry January this year too. Hope you did ok driving in the snow.

I had another busy productive day, getting ready for the meeting on Sunday (of course more to do tomorrow) as well as taking care of other household needs. I logged all of my food and again tapped into a few more extra weekly points. I am giving myself a pep talk to do well on Saturday. Because Sunday's meeting is election of officers we are having a meal as this is what the prez wishes. She decided she will buy subs from a local market (paying for these with money from our treasury) and bring her homemade macaroni salad (I must admit her macaroni salad is outstanding). I don't like the use of our treasury money to feed us but prez feels it is ok to do so. She does this every year, and I usually give a donation to the treasury to cover the cost of food for me and John. In any case, Sunday will not be a great on track day for me so I am striving to be extra good on Saturday.

Welcome to February! Woohoo. I made it through dry January. The hardest days were the first three and the last three. The middle was easy. I will celebrate with a glass of wine and then do another month. I didn't end up driving to work as DH took me. That was wonderful.

I hope you can enjoy the meal at Sunday's meeting Paula. I think that it is okay to spend money on those that are the church officers, especially when it's only once a year. Our church provides meals at many types of meetings. Our board of elders are served a meal monthly. Just saying this so you don't feel bad about it and I think it is quite normal in other denominations of church.

Thankful for a day off today! I will be able to get some chores done.

Thank you Shari for your kind understanding of tomorrow's meeting meal. I tend to be overly careful in situations such as this. We raise a lot of money for charities of all kinds (community, church, etc.) and all money we raise goes 100% to the charities. The additional funds in our treasury are granted to us from our national organization based on our activity level. The national does this to encourage activities at the local level. We usually distribute all of the funds from national to charities as well. But I am sure national would agree it is ok with us spending a little for a once a year meal for our small group.
My pep talk to myself worked pretty well, but I did indulge a bit too much in the evening. I am not stressing too much over the food tomorrow. I want to enjoy the folks at the meeting and hope the prez is in a good mood.

Hey Paula, I hope that the meeting goes well!

I had a good day. I went to the city to see my eldest. It is a 35-40 minute drive. So close, yet so far! Once I get there, I really enjoy my time. DH had to do snow removal, so I went on my own. I have started noting the people that I want to see on my calendar. It's too easy for me to stay home and not see anyone. I am a bit overwhelmed with the full calendar, but I am going to try and stick to it for the next 6 months and see how I do. I tried to space out the visits, but some months are a bit packed.

It's really cold here today @ -22 F. I need to get a few groceries and I would like to pop in and see my parents. Not looking forward to outdoor portions of my day.

Hello! I'm glad that you are both doing well in spite of this cold weather! I've been struggling with fatigue for the past several weeks but now have vitamins recommended by one of my healthcare providers. I hope they will help! My DD has "tricked " me into getting back to the gym. She signs up for physical fitness challenges and "bets" $$ on herself. If she completes the challenge, she gets her money back plus divides any money that others put down but didn't complete the challenge. Her challenge this time was to do weights 3 times/week for two weeks. I have the gym membership so she needs to go with me to get in. I've been working out with her. Its not a lot but its something.
Paula, I hope that your meeting went well!! Shari, I hope you are staying safe and warm in these frigid temperatures!! I will close for now since I am falling asleep at the keyboard. Have a great Monday!!

DW, So happy to see your post. Was starting to get concerned by your absence. Good that you have a way to help with your fatigue and good too that you are working out at the gym again. Clever daughter that you have!

Shari, Great that you got to see one of your sons. I cannot imagine -22F!!! Do your cars operate ok in such temps? Do you have to be concerned about your water pipes at home freezing? That is a concern for us even at around +12F or so as I understand it. We had some snow tonight but the temps are in the 20s so it isn't too bad now.

Our meeting went well, no thanks to the prez who was moody at times and kind of detached especially in the beginning of the meeting. She acted as if she didn't want to run the meeting so another member and I just talked it through. Later prez warmed up and was ok. But it seems we always are walking on eggshells with her. She is quite unpredictable and frustrating at times and nice at other times. I do enjoy the other members who come to the meetings though, and today was no different with these kind folks.

Having a gym buddy is awesome. It makes getting there so much easier. Most of us are wired to let someone else down. Hope your energy returns soon DW. It is good to hear from you.

I would find it difficult to work with someone who's mood is unpredictable. Glad you have a team around you that can soften the environment Paula.

We went to my parents for a visit. We go every other week now. My mom is still quite mobile and often prepares a meal for us. I feel bad about that, but it doesn't seem to be too taxing on her. My dad isn't drinking and it's been two weeks now. I hope he is feeling that life is better when you are sober!

Shari, I am so happy to read how well your parents are doing. I will continue to pray for their health and well being. It is a blessing to have them in your life.

My home health aide didn't come today. The company called me less than an hour before her scheduled arrival time saying that she had an emergency. When I asked if she could come on Tuesday they said no. They were less than enthusiastic when I asked if someone else could come Tuesday. So I decided, because I was feeling pretty good, John and I could change the sheets ourselves, and I cancelled this visit from the aide. I have had the sense that she doesn't really want to come here, perhaps because our location is not convenient to where she lives. John and I did fine changing the sheets (and this was after we spent over an hour organizing his clothes closet). I am quite happy that we did all this and saved the money I would have paid for the aide's visit. I am feeling stronger for the most part lately and hope this continues. I was fairly tired after the sheet changing and slept after supper for quite a while but woke up from that nap feeling ok. I didn't log my food today, but I made healthy food choices and paid attention to portion size. I aim to get back to logging tomorrow and starting another good streak.

Wow Paula! That company doesn't sound very helpful or compassionate. Business must be too good for them. I am glad that you and John could change your sheets together and save some money! I pray that you will find your strength increase and that you be able to have good energy levels after the extra work gets done.

It was so cold here yesterday, being outdoors takes your breath away. Today will be a bit better, but not by that much. Thankfully it is predicted that Wednesday will be warmer. DH came to the gym with me, which surprisingly was quite busy. I am finding it a tad too busy since January. I am hoping that it gets quieter so it is closer to what is like before Christmas.

From what that I have read, gym attendance does taper off as the year progresses. It will be interesting to see when you note a difference at your particular gym. Perhaps it will remain more crowded as long as your winter weather remains so cold and then taper off as warmer weather comes in.

Thank you for your prayers Shari. I took things a little easier today as far as housework/to do list goes. We had our 2 online classes tonight, and I had to do some catch up reading that otherwise I would have done yesterday. I did very well with eating today however. So happy when I stay within my point range and don't have to fight off cravings or the hunger monster.

I was hoping it wouldn't be so cold out today, but it is. I am not looking forward to having to be out and about today. I am thankful for super warm clothing.

Great job staying within your points Paula. I have been tracking very consistently, but I do miss a few bites here and there. I want to get under control so I have a more accurate picture of my calorie intake. If I haven't lost anything by Sunday, I will drop my target a bit and see if that helps.
  • DW2022

Hello! Shari, I appreciated your comments about your gym being busy-I am having the same experience. When I went in the fall it was usually not crowded at all. Now it is packed-the first night there weren't 2 cardio machines available so we skipped our warm up. We only have one more night until my DD isn't going anymore. She does not enjoy it and will complete her current challenge tomorrow night.
Paula, congrats on staying within your point range! I continue to track using NOOM but also continue to have my weight bouncing around the same numbers and not making progress. The cold weather seems to add to my appetite! We are expecting freezing rain tonight and I am hoping that it misses us since I need to drive tomorrow. Have a great Thursday!
  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,196 Member
DW, I will say a prayer for you for safe driving if you must drive on Thursday. We are expecting a "wintry mix" of snow, sleet, and ice starting fairly soon (after midnight). It could bring us an accumulation of about 2 inches and then ice on top of that. Predictions are for this precipitation to last til early afternoon on Thursday. Just about all schools are already closed for tomorrow. Ice is so treacherous. As always, my main concern is John and Buster having to go outside for Buster's "needs." John has already salted the area they use, with pet safe ice melt. I just hope the predicted warmer weather to follow moves in quickly tomorrow to melt whatever is still frozen. More winter weather is predicted again for Saturday into Sunday. Ugh!

I am in a good eating groove and hope it continues. I tracked my points again and stayed within range. I am motivated and feeling good overall, so it seems like these things add up to good food choices. I keep giving myself pep talks when I feel like giving myself permission to stray from my plan. I am also making an effort to include zero point foods which will satisfy me. But really every day is a bit of a struggle. It is harder for me on higher demand days. Since today was a low demand day (no visitors, no commitments, etc.), I was ok doing what I need to do for me.

We have a number of gyms and two close to where I go. I am curious if they are busier now too. I hope the business tapers off soon! Sometimes I have to skip a part of my planned workout due to the machines being too busy. It is helpful when we can bring someone to the gym with us DW. Even a busy gym can be quite lonely.

It looks like we are all having a taste of winter right now.

My weight is still bouncing around and not in a downward trend. I may need to lower calories again and see if that helps.

Our ice/sleet storm is over and our temps rose to melt it away. We will have a pleasant day tomorrow with plowable snow predicted for Saturday evening and more plowable snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe that will be the end of this snowy pattern! I hope!
I stayed on track again today and have my meals planned for tomorrow. It seems that when I have energy and do some planning I can do reasonably well. I think though I will be a little less strict on Sunday for the Super Bowl as we cheer on our Eagles. I will come up with something special for John and plan on having at least some celery sticks and hummus for myself which usually satisfies me in these situations. I will have a full day of activities as Craig is supposed to come, and I have list of to do items for him and for myself.

We should be warmer today and done with the deep freeze. I haven't spent much time outside lately. It would be nice to get some outdoor steps in, that would help me meet my daily step goal. It's been hard to achieve lately.

I think food/menu planning is such a huge help to staying on track. I do best when I have a set plan in place. I decided not to eat celery anymore Paula. I have never liked it and only ate it because it is healthy. I don't mind if it's cooked into soups and other dishes though. I focusing on foods that I love to eat (but that doesn't include junk food). I am on a banana kick at the moment. I have half a banana every day alongside my coffee.
