Laying low and quiet - currently waiting for my husband's stent procedure to get started- if there's pain after or they couldn't do it through his throat-it will be scheduled for tomorrow as an ultrasound-and he would have to stay the night - hoping for a smooth path
It's supposed to get warmer 85 on Sunday then 88 Monday-going to plant my veggies for my garden, get some walking in and enjoy the sunshine in SE Wisconsin4 -

On Sunday, we have our annual Kickball Tournament with all our friends and their kids. We each bring a dish to pass and they play rain or shine. I chase my toddler around the whole time but I do not partake in kickball lol
Memorial day is my "mother in laws" birthday and she wants to go swimming so she got a hotel room for the night and invited us to come swim with her.2 -

@Afura So sorry about the uptick in rent...I know a lot who are having to face that lately...it not easy, especially when wages don't increase as fast as prices! Hope you can find a way to balance out. I know a lot of people getting creative with Etsy, eBay, etc...some days I'll admit, when trying to balance out the bills, I DO miss my piano lesson income.
Congrats on your loss this week! Hang in there!

This week was difficult for me emotionally. Tuesday was a terrible day and I needed a couple of days to focus on family and friends. If you are already feeling sad, feel free to skip the next paragraph and pick up with the last paragraph —
I got news of a local tragedy around noon. After hearing there was a big melee of fighting near the city’s high school, we learned someone my son knew (peripherally) had been stabbed and died. Then, I was leading a ‘run through’ practice session in preparation for a big meeting on Wednesday when I got a call from my friends’/neighbors’ 15 year old son. He has called me in the past when he needed some help through a crisis so I muted my computer speaker and took his call. That’s when I learned his sister - who was studying in Spain - had died. Our children grew up together and feel like family. After sharing the sad news with my husband and sons, I learned about the violent and senseless school shooting in TX — just devastating! 💔
On Wednesday, I pledged every minute of my day to people who are hurting, or who are no longer with us, especially those closest to me. I dedicated my early morning workout to the local high school student mentioned above. Then, I supported the large group of families, teachers, counselors, social workers, and community based mental health and wellness clinicians working to improve access to quality services across 251 local schools. Practitioners are dealing with a lot of secondary trauma from their work. I also sent an email message to our local high school principal with a message of love and strength. He was also the elementary school principal for my younger son and he is a wonderful leader, trusted colleague/partner (to teachers, students, school board members, and other groups), and a truly caring person. I’ve committed to taking on a few more volunteer hours with the local Boys & Girls Club as a small way to make a positive difference. We need to spread more love, care, and resilience.
I dream that some day we will stop hurting ourselves and/or others. I believe we can heal and change. So, I’m focusing on inner peace, and trying my best to radiate that during every interaction with others. For our Shape Shifters group, I encourage each of us to begin the day with kindness and grace for ourselves. Our body deserves healthy food that comes from nature, and gives us the right type of energy. We don’t need to overdo exercise workouts but we will likely feel our best if we can connect with one another or the outdoors in some kind of movement — walking, cycling, stretching together, etc.
Please let us know what brings you peace. How are you caring for yourself and others?
I’m uplifted by reading about your non-scale victories and other progress. Thanks @bearchested and others for sharing your NSV and strategies. It’s inspiring to see so much personal improvement and so many positive changes. Good work Shape Shifters!6 -
@PatriceFitnessPal I KNEW something was wrong because it's not like you to be so quiet, but I assumed you were out of town or spending time with family. I am SO VERY SORRY for the loss of your son's friend! How is he handling it? I agree with you, all of this trauma and grief is overwhelming some days. I tend to cry, pray and walk just to clear my head. It seems every day is a new reason for sadness. I hope you know you can reach out to us anytime, but that doesn't give you the hug you probably really need, or a friend to just listen to you express yourself. I will email you my phone number and know that I'm only a call away especially when you just need to vent.
I too dream of a day when we stop hurting ourselves and others. We have to find a way to respect each other, live peacefully and stop the violence...especially when it's pointed to the weakest...children, senior citizens, the handicapped...just breaks my heart.
**BIG HUGS** my friend...Find a quiet corner, just breathe...drink your favorite relaxing beverage, listen to some jazz (or whatever music speaks to your soul) and know that we're here thinking of you. Please hug your son from a stranger he doesn't know, but who cares for his Mom.

I was rage/emotional eating this week, so I am surprised the scale went down. My whole family (3-year-old, 5-year-old, husband, and me) all woke up with fevers today.4 -
This weekend, I hope to catch up on some of the messages posted above.
@Pupowl - Your story about helping the elderly man find his way home made me so happy. Thank you for going out of your way to care for him. My father in law has dementia and his neighbors keep a careful eye on him which brings some peace as we navigate all the pieces of his care so he can ‘age in place’ at home. My mother is also starting to lose her way and we’re trying to assess her level of care. My sister is a nurse and visits regularly and I’ll be staying with her for about a month this summer, but it certainly takes a community to keep the elderly safe and happy.
I’d love to hear more about your most recent trip to Africa @cobluejay. That’s a ‘bucket list’ trip for me but I’m not sure where to start my planning. Do you have a favorite country with in Africa you would recommend visiting? I’d love to see the natural wildlife that draws so many visitors, and I’m also interested in getting a sense of the many cultures and varied experiences. Is all that possible without costing a fortune? I’m saving enough for a mid-level trip but also wonder how much time is needed to make the experience worthwhile. No need to answer these questions in detail but if there’s a destination that stood out to you as special, I’d love to hear about it.
@cre804 - The beach is my happy place. My skin doesn’t like the sun but the ocean draws me. Your trip to Spain sounded like a lovely ‘escape’ with a friend, @izzyred9400. I am also outnumbered at home with a husband, two sons, and even a male dog that processes his emotions through me! There is nothing like a special friendship that allows us to let our guard down and share deep experiences together. That is definitely a simple pleasure that still feels extraordinary. One of my favorite simple pleasures is getting together with my family at a local park, hiking trail, or seaside ice cream shack (after a walk! 😉). I hope you enjoy your family reunion @ JenHul!
It’s great to hear about trips to the beach and simple pleasures like playing kickball with family and friends @ewilhelm2487 and hanging laundry on the clothesline. I love that feeling of being outside while getting my laundry done, and then bringing the fresh scent into the house as I collect the clothes off the line. I try to practice mindfulness while I fold clothes, which sounds odd but is surprisingly soothing.
BTW, I hope your tooth has healed and your swelling improves. You are really dealing with a lot @ewilhelm2487 — I hope you can get more rest soon! I’m also thinking of you @LaurieWrobo as I send healing wishes. Enjoy your garden, and I hope your husband feels strong enough to turn the soil together again soon.
@Afura - I’m so sorry to hear about the added cost of rent. I hope you can offset the expense and find some balance. Maybe you can make the case for a raise in pay following your training?! My parents always said that the only thing that can’t be taken away from us is our education. Learning a new skill can open new doors so I wish you the best.
@angmarie0821 - I hope you can breathe easy with the end of the school year. Enjoy your well-deserved rest (from one job 🙃 at least).
I’m looking forward to using the June Habit Tracker — I love a fresh opportunity to build a positive habit!3 -
@PatriceFitnessPal I have no words, I’m sorry for the pain. Sending hugs your way1

Sorry I missed yesterday, I was running around shopping and setting up camp as my daughter wanted to camp in the backyard this weekend.
I'm a little confused with the scale yesterday. I was 194.8 on Thursday morning, and was aiming for 1.5lb loss this week. I went to an impromptu lunch with my boss and outside advisors on Thursday. While my calories for the day were on track, restaurants always push my fat macro and sodium numbers high. This morning I weighed 194.6, so I'm still on track.3 -
Sorry, NWI this week, was traveling and away from scale.1

@bearchested Based on your writing in the paragraph above, I think you meant 194.6 for the CW?? Please advise, but that's what I'll enter for now, until I hear from you. Which is correct 194 or 195?

Friday is my weigh day, and since I weighed 195.6 on Friday that's what I put. I usually weigh myself everyday which is why I mentioned my Saturday weight. I'm fine putting either number as my weigh-in this week.0
