@MaddawgMadsen
Fantastic resolutions for your 2024! I believe since I am starting back from scratch (3 years of unhealthy eating and living) my resolution for 2024 will be to achieve having a continuous (never go past 4 consecutive days of unhealthy eating/living) healthy lifestyle. 2024 ready or not, here we come!4 -
I will make one New Year's Resolution this year. To end 2024 at a lighter weight than I'll start it. I need to get back on track.
I also have another Gran Fondo bike race in July (we're doing the same one we did last year) and I will train to get my fitness in order for that.7 -
@ashleycarole86 I like your resolution and will copy it, to end 2024 lighter than when I start it.
I have made many resolutions in the past regarding weight loss and I have not completed one yet. This year will be my year!
Have you ever had your picture taken and looked at it like...wow I didn't realize I look that big. I know it may be partly the angle as well, but I had a picture taken with my niece and wow...that was a wake up call! I have now printed it out and will place it in my office at work to remind me not to sneak food from the break room.6 -

Now that I have the weight part pretty well under control, it is about strength. I want to keep strong and mobile. That requires as much consistency and insistence as losing weight. I also want to keep the dopamine stimulation down - alcohol, sugar, simple carbs. They are experts at derailments. I am not in favour of total elimination, but enjoying the lowest indulgences possible to keep healthy and well focused feels good.6 -

Good morning! I am going to set myself a small goal to achieve today that will focus on one of my unhealthy habits that I want to change. I'm getting ready to travel this morning to take care of some errands and different shopping. I am NOT going to make any purchases today to eat in town. I will have my coffee and breakfast at home and I am going to pack myself a lunch in case my trip takes longer than expected. I will also take my biggest water bottle so I drink water instead of purchasing anything from stores to drink. 🤞 Hope everyone has a great day and I encourage you to set a single goal for yourself today that can be accomplished within today! One step at a time!8

Grrrrr but it's okay, it will be gone next week, I was pretty active over the weekend, but didn't always make the best food choices, so I think this is temporary.
I am having a hard time getting in the right mindset this week. It will be better next week though. Once everything is back to a regularly scheduled program. lol
My New Years Resolution, to stay my same awkward self: smiley:
No really, I don't really have one, last year it was to read 2 books a month, I made it one month.
I think mine are going to be towards my mental health.
Read 1 book per month. That might be more doable.
Walk outside once per week.
and most importantly, limit or eliminate my social media.

Wonderful! Finding good ways to avoid shopping when you know that it might result in unwise eating is super important. It is always the place of highest vulnerability - so your plan for today sounds absolutely spot on. WTG!4 -

It definitely could be worse. I weighed in Saturday at 168.8 (I was sick ALL day Friday and couldn't even keep water down, so that loss is definitely water weight). Monday was 174.2, yesterday was 173.4. I will absolutely take 172.0. It's incredible how things like water intake, salt intake, drinking, carbs, etc. can make the weight fluctuate!
I made it to CrossFit last night and spin class this morning. I do have another CrossFit class tonight. I am taking it easy on my shoulder and definitely listening to my body. It says it feels the best it has in the last six weeks and I should be doing all the classes! Also, small achievement - I jumped on the box.
Box jumps are exactly what they sound like. You start on the ground, jump up, and land on top of a box. The one I did last night was 20" off the ground. About 10 years ago I was in a CrossFit type class to get in shape for my wedding. One day, I went to jump, but landed hard into the corner of the wooden box, shin first. Ever since then, I have had a mental block. I go to jump, but my feet stay planted and I fall forward onto the box. Until last night!
** It should be noted that I didn't try to jump on a box from that shinplant 10 years ago until a month or two ago, so it wasn't 10 years of mental block other than completely forgetting about it.7 -
@ashleycarole86 - I your answer! It seems attainable.
@gidgitgoescrzy - Your answer is also very attainable and I like that you are focusing on something just as important, if not more important, than weight loss. Mental health is huge! And, once it's addressed, it can help with the other weight loss driven goals. Let us know what books you are reading. It will inspire me to do more reading.
@jugar - strength training is so important. I'm glad that is your focus. Also, aren't kids great? They definitely see things differently, but that can often be a good thing. I have a niece who is on the spectrum. She just says what she thinks without the filter of how the listener might take it. She often asks if what she has said was mean or rude. I love her for all of this, because I know she will always speak her mind.3 -
Enjoying some lovely down time at my dad's. After Brad wakes up for a nap we'll take my dog for a walk - our activity for the day. Weigh-in tomorrow will be humbling.4
-
@ashleycarole86 "lovely down time" - this sounds great! You and Brad need plenty of that. Sure, you have some Peloton mountains to tackle, but a good rest is important too. Enjoy the down time, the walks, and the planning.
I am having one more quiet day here at my stepmother's place - I wish I could go see my dad another time before heading home, but that will depend on whether my covid test tomorrow morning is negative or not. Yesterday I took two 3 mile walks and today only one - I feel a bit tired today, but still pretty good. No cough - that's a big win in my book. I am enjoying walking on the road I lived from age 4-15, and around the area. It has changed, but not too much. It's still semi-rural, I guess I'd call it - the huge farms have been subdivided in many cases, but it is still fairly spacious.
All you American football fans in the group will be proud of me. I finally decided, since I was stuck here in the house of a true fan, that I might as well learn something about the danged game! So I now understand a lot more, and actually tried on being an Eagles fan! I like a couple of the players' names (you have to admit that Hurts and Swift are hard to beat), and they were winning, so I decided they were my team. Just to try it on My stepmother is a Patriots person, but we won't hold that against her!
Keep well, everyone, and get ready to turn the red weigh-in tide green pretty soon, OK? We all will feel better for it.6 -
Hi WA's ..You have a new member joining your awesome team ...Please welcome @StayFITTer1

Good evening Waistaways 🥰
My New Years Resolutions are
* stress less
* to stop worrying about other people - what they do, what they think of me, what they have
* just use my business social media and not my personal one. My personal one wastes my time because I spend on it far too much time
* to get a dog.....which I almost have 🥰
Have a great Thursday everyone 🥰

Welcome @StayFITTer ! We have a few days before the "official" beginning of our January challenge - this is a great time for you to introduce yourself, get to know this lovely bunch of people, and ask all the questions. Glad to have you with us!
Ready for Thursday? I actually had to check my calendar to see that tomorrow is Thursday. So let's get ready for a few more weigh-ins! Here you come:
@cleaneater80
@ashleycarole86
@bowens1973
I know it is not the best week of the year for weighing in, but just think how good it's going to look a week or 2 from now!3 -
@ MaddawgMadsen love the New Year’s resolution
Read everyone’s posts. You all are so uplifting. Thanks
I am taking it month by month. For January I will get in a minimum of 4 workouts each week

Thanks for the warm welcome! @jugar
Bridget here! A Christian 40 something married mom of 2 school aged boys living in the States. A Michigander in the house!
I actually found this group on accident because I searched for the word “Declutter” and a post from January 2023 week 1 challenge got pulled up.
I decided to investigate more and I knew this was a place I needed to be!
(BTW: Still can’t believe there are no declutter challenge groups on MFP—thinking about starting one 🤦🏾♀️)
My intention as a WA is focus on weekly weigh-in. I kinda thrive in friendly competitive environments. I’d love to lose 30lb by July 2024. But carving out a consistent lifestyle to reach and maintain healthy weight would be the ultimate win.
Because I feel like there is a LOT going on, I might be focused more on making sure I follow the rules and not do much socializing at first 😬.
Looking forward to organically sharing, encouraging and learning more about you all and this process in general.6 -

Happy to have read thru your posts already and learned of Fiton - 'favorite online workouts?' was going to be one of my first questions. Just loaded it on my TV. I'm gearing up to start out the new year right - going to go thru the cabinets/fridge and toss what I don't want to be tempted by.6 -

Hello all! Missed you. Count me in for regular team in January. I’m with you @ashleycarole86 My biggest goal is to end the YEAR and MONTH (January) lighter than I started. I have most definitely had that photo that makes me feel bad about how I look. It has been motivating in the past. But speaking of motivation, I am saying I’m done looking for it to get me on the right track. I plan to be disciplined and hopefully the motivation will follow. All I have lost over the last four years here is all but gained back. No matter. I’m not giving up. I can do this. I will do this. One little thing at a time. So I’m going to ask my strong son to move my bike to the basement from our detached garage so it’s easier to get to. I will take time for myself as a discipline. I will get back to my beloved Pilates. I will take steps to feel more settled. I will log my food. I will be present here.So I now understand a lot more, and actually tried on being an Eagles fan! Here’s the picture of my journey here. Time for that roller coaster 🎢 to dip down!
Basically all uphill since our two moves in a little over a year. And menopause.4 -

Oh, I'm right there with you, babe, and I didn't have the same moves and house sales that you did! Solidarity. Let's make it together...on the downhill slide. We are more than capable, intelligent, and wonderful women who can do hard things!
Happy New Year. See you on the flip!4 -

Yes! Michele is back in the room It is indeed more about habits than motivation. Do your best to stick to some habits that you know work, and gradually it all feels normal. The body is a stickler for trying to make things stay the same, so there is a lot of hidden motivation (that we don't want!!) to overcome. Gotta talk to that inner voice as if it is a naughty toddler
So I can't guarantee I'll ever watch another game (unless visiting my stepmother!) but I'm an Eagles fan now. Right there along with you!

I'll do another intro in the new thread. In the meantime, must stay away from the chocolate chip cookies. Teenagers in the house who enjoy baking - I find it so hard to stay away from :-(4
