HOW IT ALL WORKS: The July challenge runs for five weeks, from June 30 - August 3.
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard. In March we are aiming for every team to hit 50% green every week - let's do this!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love Introduce or re-introduce yourselves right away, and let's get July on the road!

Welcome to July 2024!
I am Lauren, co-captain along with @ashleycarole86. I am 38 years old and from North Carolina, USA. I have been on a weight loss journey most of my adult life. I have done a lot of the yo-yo thing, losing a lot of weight in 2012 and then gaining it back. Over the last few years, I seem to be gaining and losing the same 10-15 pounds.
June was a decent month for me. I lost about 4 pounds which I worked hard to do. I did better tracking and walking. As you know, I had an unexpected trip to RI/MA for my dad's surgery at the end of the month, so I tried to keep my habits going, but did get out of sync some. Today is my first day home and am getting back into my normal routine. I am also going back to RI the last week in July for a planned vacation. Since last month went well, I want to maintain those habits for one more month before I introduce a new habit. So my goals for this month will be to:
1: Track my food every day
2: Have a step goal of 7,000 steps
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time (but don't sweat it if you have to use a different day sometimes)! Put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, you can request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can be moved to the "Support Team" where you still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
The F2F Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try. The link and how-to info are under "Announcements" on the main F2F page, or click here:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10919005/habit-tracker-july-2024#latest
So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live (if you're willing to share that), what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. We all have information to share, things we can learn, and lean on each other as a team for a successful month!2 -

I did not do very well last week. I did not meet any of my goals. I am going away for a few days this week and will be out of doors most of the time so hoping to get in a lot of activities. I am joining a meal delivery service for 3 days a week, hoping that will help with portion control and I chose a low calorie
option. Good luck in the upcoming week for everyone!4 -
Sunday: 9,831 + 41 min walk @ 3.4 mph
Monday: 12,229 + 45 min walk @ 3.9 mph
Tuesday: 4,161
Wednesday: 2,072
Thursday: 5,877 + 2 mile walk @ 3.5 mph
Friday: 3,858
Saturday: 7,661 +60 min body pump class
Not the best movement this week. Lack of sleep caught up with me Tuesday and Wednesday. I went to body pump yesterday and woke up this morning with a tweaked back. I either did something in my sleep or didn't realize I did something with a deadlift and my low back is not liking me today. Ice, rest, and ibuprofen are my current friends.5 -

@smcewen99 Following up a week with a big drop with another week with a small drop is huge. So often after a big drop it's hard to post a loss the week following - excellent work. I didn't realize you were a fellow Canadian! I hear it's beer dreary in Ontario.. way to go getting on your bike anyway.
My name is Ashley, I am 37 years old and live in Alberta, Canada with my husband, our dog, two cats, and my Mom in our basement with her dog. We both work full time in corporate jobs with a relatively long commute. Me and my husband both struggle with our weight and both equate food to love, fun times, and celebration. We push each other to try to make better choices and we truly win together and fall together.
After a ton of success in 2021 and 2022, 2023 and 2024 have seen me backslide. I am trying to figure out how to get myself back on track and successful in my current life. I lost my weight during COVID lockdowns when I was home with nothing else to do but work out and now that I'm back in my regular life (which was always a problem before) I'm suffering the same issues.
I am still here, still trying, and still over 35 pounds down from my highest weight and trying to stop it there.
What's everyone looking forward to in July?
Don't forget - those who were part of the June step challenge will automatically be entered into July but if anyone wants to join or make any changes to their existing pledges, just let me know!2 -

Happy July (in about 7 hours)!
My name is Evelyn and I live in Vermont with my spouse and our 3 cats. I've had issues with weight since high school. Of course, much of it was in my head since I weighed a lot less than I do now but saw a much bigger person in the mirror!
My goal for July is to eat more veggies and fruit and minimize heavier proteins. I also plan to do at least 2 workouts per week and walk every day, at least a little bit. I still haven't purchased a stationary bike to ride every morning or evening, but it's still in the plan.
Off we go to a new month of hot weather. Be well, everyone!

I'm Ginny from the UK 🇬🇧 and since starting this journey 6 weeks ago, I've lost 10lbs.
Making a commitment to myself to continue with a minimum of 10,000 steps per day and my new goal is a minimum of 2 gym sessions a week.
I've been doing the IF 16:8, then tried to reduce from 7 days to 5. I've realised that doesn't work for me, as this weekend ending up eating past 11pm.
Need to focus on the 2 meals a day and stay under 1500 calories.
Good luck to everyone and thank you fir the welcome. 😊6 -

Happy July !
Hi Team, I'm Vikki, 52 from Baltimore, MD-US, married, 3 grown out of the house kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat - I've been here since 2019 on and off, I lost some weight then, and then flip flopped for 3 years, but this past year, I've finally got it together, I met my initial goal of 145 back in April/May, then I went on my dream trip to Ireland and it was awesome, I am down a total 50lbs from my highest weight. I would love to lose another 10lbs and get around 135, but I also want to tone up and work more on strength, and flexibility and balance, and I know from the many years, that I do not lose if I exercise too much, so I have to have the right balance, and that often leads to losing and gaining the same 5lbs for quite a while.
My biggest problem with my diet is my evening snacking, so last year I started intermittent fasting, and now I no longer eat past 6pm, and I believe that is essentially what helped the weight come off, there were other things, like I cut back drinking ALOT, this was also a key, because since summer is here, and I've started drinking more often, I've noticed my weight increases when I have drinks and stays there for a few days after. I also balanced my hormones because I think this menopause business was tough for me, apparently my body did not like the kind of HRT my dr had me on the 1st time, but now I'm on a different kind and it seems to have all settled down. I'm paying alot more attention to what's in my food, and do my best to limit my sugar, and processed foods. I try to prioritize natural foods, and protein, other than that I don't really count calories or log my food.
I completed my June Squat challenge; I completed all but one day! I'm proud of myself, I typically do not follow through on those things.
I will be doing the same challenge for July, except the squats will be with weights, and I am starting at 15.
I am also going to do 4 arm moves (tricep kickbacks, lateral/front raises, raised arm circles and Shoulder press) these I will start with 2 sets of 15 with a 2lbs weight, then each week I will add 1 more move, increase the weight, or increase the reps. (I'm not sure yet, and I will judge on how it goes). I know myself and I have to start slow.
I am going to also include at a minimum of 2 day of Pilates, and 2 days of cardio per week.
I only have a 3-day work week this week, so I am excited about that, but it is the last month of our fiscal year, so I have to make sure everything I've done all year is all good, so it will be a busy month.
Have a fabulous day

@Gidgitgoescrzy Sounds like an amazing workout plan! Your 50 pound weight loss has been so inspiring.
@Lyss983 What a great way to use your time off. Everything feels so much better when we're not exhausted.
Canada Day long weekend here so we are off today - woo hoo! That means we are still at the lake. When we get home we'll have a full house as my brother and his wife are with us for 2 weeks or so visiting my mom. It's a hectic time!4 -

I'm on a mission to ladder up my July week 1 over my June week 4! Just got back from my walk today... I had a good step day last Monday as I was in office so I'll need to push at the lake today to make it happen.4 -
Hi! My name is Jolene. I live in Colorado with my husband and two dogs. This bout of weight loss struggle started in 2013 with an injury. I hit my highest last year around 190lbs (I'll be honest, I didn't always wait for my scale to show me my final number before jumping off). I saw a picture of myself and realized I needed to make some changes. I joined this group about a month later and am anywhere from 10 to 20 pounds down.
For those hoping the biopsy went well, the actual procedure went well. I don't have results yet, but the doctor seems pretty certain it's just a fibroma and nothing to worry about.
I did end up playing pickleball on Friday night and Saturday morning. It's like riding a bike. A lot of stuff (even all the rules) came back pretty quickly and it ended up being really fun. I just decided to go play again tonight instead of going to crossfit.
I watched a docuseries this last weekend on Netflix called, "You Are What You Eat". It followed sets of identical twins for a couple of months while they ate different diets - one omnivore and one vegan. The biggest thing I took away from it is examining and really understanding where my food comes from.5 -
@MaddawgMadsen I'm glad the biopsy went well and I am sure you will be even more relieved when you get the actual results. I know a lot of people are getting into pickle ball, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Today was a good day. My first day back to work after 11 days off and it was actually not as bad as expected. I was able to catch up for the most part which was surprising. I went to the gym after work and was able to walk on the track for a couple miles. My back is mostly better, just a few twinges so I didn't want to chance it with body pump again tonight.
It has been so hot here the past week and my veggie plants are not liking it one bit. Plus the deer ate some branches off my tomato plants and I hope they don't die or not produce from shock I think I need to start my seeds earlier next year. I also may try again later this summer and into the fall when it cools down. We have been in the 90s most days with feel like temps in the 100s.
I may watch that docuseries Jolene, it looks interesting! Has anyone else watched this?3 -

For July, I’m thinking about bowing out of posting my steps and workout?
I believe I need to focus on my nutrition and emotional management this month. Really dial into my spiritual wellness.
I’m celebrating the fact I’m posting on a Monday—that was such a challenge in June.
I love JULY because it’s like January all over again. How can we finish the last 6 months strong? So I’m bringing new years energy and vibe to this month. That is all 🥰

Okay so I thought I was starting small with those arm exercises and just 2lb weights, ummm guys that was not as easy as I thought, but it was doable, although I did accidently add an extra move in because I forgot what I was supposed to do. The arm circles are the hardest, but in a week or two they will be easy peasy.
The scale was way up this morning, so I hope I can get it back down by tomorrow.
Okay busy day, but I am planning on doing pilates this evening.
Have a wonderful day !
