HOW IT ALL WORKS: The June challenge runs for four weeks, from June 1st - June 28th.

Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!

We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leader board. In March we are aiming for every team to hit 50% green every week - let's do this!

To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:Weigh In Day:PW (Previous Weight):CW (Current Weight):

If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.

Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.

In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.

Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love Introduce or re-introduce yourselves right away, and let's get June on the road! 😎

FAQ for New Shape Shifters Members

How do I post my weigh in?

    Userid

    (Day of Week) Weigh-in

    PW: 204 lbs (previous weight)

    CW: 202 lbs (current weight)

LTD: 12 lbs (optional loss to date)

Where is the Weigh in stats spreadsheet?

Start at the Fat2Fit Main Page and under the header information, you’ll see a section at the bottom that says “TO ACCESS THE SPREADSHEETS FOR JANUARY CLICK HERE” followed by the link in blue. Once you click on that link, it will take you to the Summary page. Find Shape Shifters on the tabs at the bottom and click on that and that brings you to the stats page. Also on this page (scrolling down), you’ll find the Step Challenge chart as well. This is where we record your daily steps if you sign up to be part of the monthly step challenge. More info on how to sign up is below! Join us!

How often should I post in the chatroom?

Whenever you have a question, suggestion, story, news announcement or just want to brighten someone's day!! There's never too much...and please share recipes, tips, laughs, challenges, cartoons, pictures of your pets, pictures from walks you've taken, etc...we love it all!!

What if I have to be out of town during my weigh in?

Send a message to one of the Captains (JessicaKrall8 or FrankWBrown) in the chatroom or in a private message on MFP's mail and let them know your circumstance...if it's just for a week or two, you can be excused from the weigh-in. If you must leave for longer than a month, you may be moved to our support team until you return. When you're ready to come back, send another message and the MODS will move you back to active status.

    Who are our team Motivators?

LaurieWrobo and NancyinMiami are our two motivators. They’re here to answer questions, give suggestions and help with times when you need a little more support!

What happens if I miss a weigh in?

If you're late, you'll be marked as LWI (late weigh in). If you fail to report in at all, you'll be labeled as NWI (no weigh in). After two NWIs, you're put on the drop list if no explanation has been provided. It's always best to let your Captain know what's going on and they'll make sure you're covered.

How do I sign up for the Step Challenge?

Send the Captains a message that you'd like to join (in the monthly team chat thread), provide your daily step goal and share your favorite place to walk. It's that simple! Please be aware though, you're making a commitment to post your steps every 2-3 days, which helps the Captains keep the stats caught up. If you're not willing to do this, please do not sign up. (THANKS!)

Do I have to re-register each month to remain part of Team Shape Shifters?

No, your membership will carry over month to month. The only place where this is NOT true is for the Step Challenge. You have to sign up each month to participate in it and this gives you the opportunity to adjust your daily step goal.

If I've missed anything or questions arise, just post them! We'll find the information you need as much as possible! Hope this helps!

    Welcome!

    Jessica

The June Monthly Challenge starts on Sunday June 1st, so it's time for a new Step Challenge as well. And although you're automatically enrolled in the June Challenge, you're not automatically enrolled in the June Step Challenge. You have to join anew each month, by expressing your desire to join, stating your daily step goal, and committing to posting your steps in a timely manner (at least every 2-3 days). (e.g. Friday is my weigh-in day, so I post my steps on Friday, Sunday, and Tuesday.)

Here's who was in the May Step Challenge. Set a new step goal or keep the one you had, or join us in June if you weren't in the last one.
The blue font color shows those who have already joined the June Step Challenge.

I haven't said anything about June's step challenge yet (maybe it was supposed to be someone else already signed up?), but yes, I'm in for another month!

    Goal is 12,000 steps.

I enjoy going on walks with my boys, exploring different little parks in our area. I also spend quite a bit of time on the treadmill at the gym.

This is going to be a tough month to get steps in, between the Arizona heat and not being able to leave the kids with husband until he is healed from surgery. I'm going to do what I can, though!

Sorry, @Zaxa2021. I have your goal at 12,000 now. Good luck. Sounds like it'll be challenging for you. The only challenge for me is the heat, so I'll be trying to get out early for the next 3 months.

@sunshinezombiegirl1 raised her goal to 7,500.

    @Krysless2

Please always separate numbers (weight or steps) from other text with a space:

    This: " 154.3 lbs"
    not this: " 154.3lbs"

It makes it easier to copy only the text I want (i.e. the number). 🙂

    Thanks.

Not thrilled with my weight loss, but I wanted to see what the results of adding strength training did for me. I have a Hume scale and here are my results for May:

    Body fat % = down 0.7%

Body fat mass = down 2.2 lbs.

Lean mass = added 0.9 lbs

Subcutaneous fat mass = down 0.9 lbs

    BMR = down 3 calories

Overall, while not a tremendous weight loss, I was able to shed fat while adding muscle. I'll take those stats as a win.

Does anyone else track these metrics?

Here's to a great month of June!

    Welcome new members!

Hi, I’m Rita (63) retired and currently living in Alaska with DH. I am still, probably always will be, working on consistent movement everyday, portion control and making more nutritionally sound food choices. I joined mfp in February 2024 and this group in September 2024. I’m grateful for the inspiration and support this group provides and looking forward to continuing this part of my journey with you.

Sorry no joy with spoiler alert

    May review and June goals:

    May goals:

    - continue to weigh and log everything 👍

    - attend all Strong Senior classes offered this month (MWF) 👍👎 missed 2 classes dental appt and traveling to campground

-get a bike helmet, never used one before even though I always made the kids wear one, and try to get in at least 1 bike ride a week. *Any advice about what to look for in a helmet would be appreciated 👍👎 got a helmet but only rode once

-yoga/stretching 2 times a week 👎 still struggling with this

    June goals:

-Continue logging and attending Strong Seniors

    -Dance class

    -Ride bike

-Yoga/ stretching, I will get it eventually

    @FWSWCindy

Yes, I track some of those metrics. I have a Withings Body+ scale. I've also had several DEXA scans done over the last 5 years.

The Withings Body+ scale provides these metrics:
Weight, Fat mass, Lean mass, Water mass, Bone mass, Muscle mass

It also computes and displays BMI, but I'm not a fan of BMI. It's meaningless for my body type.
It also has a Visceral Fat metric but mine is blank, presumably because the Body+ doesn't have that capability, although more expensive Withings scales do.

You mention "subcutaneous fat mass" as distinct from "Body fat mass".
Body fat is composed of two types:
subcutaneous fat (aka Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue, or SAT)
visceral fat (aka Visceral Adipose Tissue, or VAT)

VAT is the kind of fat that's more dangerous to your health. A DEXA scan is able to see the difference, but I don't think scales of this type can really detect the difference. I've read that VAT is typically 10% of your total fat mass.

You have to take readings from BIA scales like these with a grain of salt (really, a half shaker of salt). I can see my fat mass vs lean mass swing 5 lbs or so, just by weighing myself before and after a shower. Body moisture after a shower is enough to influence the scale's algorithm. I use Bone mass as an indicator of sorts: it's value varies from 7.4 to 8.2, typically between 7.8-8.1. I doubt my bone mass varies that much. The lower this reading, the more fat mass the scale thinks I have. The higher this reading, the more lean mass the scale thinks I have.

But then again, climate change over the past 56 years no doubt makes it worse now.

For those members, who like to make all-inclusive postings, please help your poor Captains by listing your weigh-ins and/or step counts FIRST and in BOLD…it really helps us not to miss them, buried deep in paragraph 3, so to speak. We really do try to see everything, but you can understand why some things are missed.

    Thank!

I agree with @jessicakrall8 Posting this info FIRST and in BOLD would really help.

In case it's been a while for you, read *F2F GUIDELINES AND WEIGH-IN FORMAT*

So it's preferable that your post would look something like this:

    Weigh in day: Friday
    PW: 255.1
    CW: 254.9

    or

    Weigh in day: Friday
CW: 254.9 (we don't really need PW if you don't remember it)

Your weigh-in day helps us locate you in the spreadsheet, because it's sorted by day first then alphabetically second.

    ************************************

I'm going to use this format, because I like details. 😆

    ——————————————————
    frankwbrown -- (using 7-day average)
    May week 5
Weigh in day: Friday, June 6
    PW: 256.4
    CW: 256.1
    (↓0.3; 0.12%)
    This month's LTD: ( ↓4.0; 1.54%)
    ——————————————————

I use a spreadsheet to do the formatting for me, and I use shift+ctrl+V to paste as plain text. It removes the bold, but I do it to avoid the table layout default format. I then select the text after pasting to make it bold. (I just learned that omitting the comma in the step count helps)

    ——————————————————
    Daily step goal: 10,000

    🔹Tue 5/27: 10168
    🔹Wed 5/28: 9922
    🔹Thu 5/29: 10337

    ——————————————————

When posting steps, I like the above — it's hard to miss. But in addition to it being FIRST and BOLD, please include the day. Any variation of these is fine by me:

    • Sun 6/1: 12345
    • Sun - 12345 steps
    • 6/1 steps = 12345
    • STEPS:
      • 6/1 10101
      • 6/2 10201

    Thanks for your help.
