Alrighty.
Picked up the Talenti southern butter pecan and paired it with the TJ cookie butter cheesecake. As you can imagine, they paired very well.
Talenti - Tasty, as usual. My wife raved about it, despite the fact that she typically hates butter pecan. Again, very good, but yet again, I still am left with the "but what's the big deal" feeling afterward. I'm thinking Talenti and I just aren't made for each other.
Cookie Butter Cheesecake - My wife took to this like I do the Talenti; she thought it was very good, but no big deal. Initially I felt similarly. Until...this morning. Decided to cut a slice, cold. Oh. My. Damn. I must've had about 800-1000 delicious calories worth of cheesecake this morning, and I'm not typically a breakfast eater. Cold this is one of the best cheesecake experiences I've ever had. I topped it with some knock-off cool whip, a few peanuts, and a sprinkle of brown sugar. Unbelievable.0 -

I get you on the Talenti. I don't feel that way about Talenti, obviously, but I do feel that way about Graeter's and most of the time B&J (with a couple of notable exceptions).0 -
So update on this weekend's Jeni's, I didn't have much because we ate all kinds of other things. My husband was on cooking duty which meant he ordered most of it.
But did try the Sweet corn & Black Raspberries - my initial thought is not for me, kind of tasted like creamed sweet corn and the swirl was too sweet. Now my husband says its really good but we've established he has no taste. I will taste it again now that I'm feeling better maybe it was that.
The brown butter almond brittle now that one I loved. Creamy subtle brown butter taste with lots of mix ins.
Think tonight I'm going to try the Triumph which is absinthe ice cream w/meringue kisses and bitter orange candy. That's always subject to change0 -

Ha, love this. If I'm going to splurge on this (since it's pretty pricey), I think I'll go with the brown butter almond since everyone seems to agree that it's pretty awesome.
Also, absinthe ice cream just sounds horrible (of course, I hate black licorice). It's bad enough that my sazaracs have the glass rinsed in absinthe...0 -

Craziness.
To me it seems completely ridiculous (and obviously so) to change the rules and then not be clear about the new procedure. I said the same thing to Olivia about people now being banned from groups as well as the main forums. At the very least they should have officially announced that from the outset. The only reason I knew about it was because it was discussed in Beta testing.
What the hell? Bans are now across the board including private groups? That would definitely be good to know.0 -

I'm not a B&J fan. There are a couple of flavors I like, but in general their actual ice cream isn't all that good to me. They've struck me for a long time as a company that masks substandard ice cream with an "everything but the kitchen sink" approach to toppings. Some of their flavors are convenient, but for the most part if I want to go topping crazy I'd rather just pick up an ice cream base that I really enjoy and add my own toppings from there.GiveMeCoffee wrote: »

I like black licorice. The brown butter almond is a good one or if you like pumpkin their buttercup pumpkin with amaretti cookies is delicious. Also if you sign up for their emails they do flash sales and that helps with the price0 -
Not gonna lie-- sweet corn with raspberries sounds awful to me. But I do think you should try it when feeling well. I tried Talenti Sea Salt Caramel when I was in an awful funk and I didn't think I liked it. MrM's review convinced me to try it again and now it's one of my favorites.0

I wanted to try it, I thought I remembered in the gelato cleanse think it was Sarah that said it was good. If my husband doesn't eat it all, I'll taste it again... won't be a repeat flavor though0 -
The sweet corn with raspberries sounds like one of those things that my husband would freak out if I ordered, and I would have to order it just to prove how adventurous of an eater I am... and I'd probably hate it and refuse to admit that because then he would be right.
Nothing you described about the Triumph one sounds good. At. All.
Brown Butter Almond Brittle is definitely going to be the first one I get when I either get up the gumption to order online or else our Jeni's ice cream shop opens here....0 -

I loved Brown butter brittle. I'm curious to see what you think of the Wiskey one.
Oh the Whiskey & Pecans was delicious.... good whiskey flavor but wasn't overpowering at all lots of pecans mixed in. This is in the Top 3 or 5 I dunno I've tried lots I can't rank them anymore.
I haven't tried the Whiskey Egg nog yet0 -

That's the one about which I'm curious. I might be willing to order it if I can't find the Talenti. Shhhh. What Mr. Acrylics doesn't know won't hurt him.0 -

I'm not saying a word, all I told my husband was: Oh I ordered some ice cream that I heard was incredible, but we can't get it locally. I will probably try that one the egg nog tomorrow.
Just had a little bit of the Triumph it was good if you like black licorice. I'm hoping there's more of the orange bits further down, because that combination is a perfect bite. The little meringue bites are good but don't add much other than some crunch. It's a strong flavor so portion control is really easy 2 teaspoons and that was plenty.0 -
Is everyone okay with starting our holiday challenge on Wednesday? It'll be any and all holiday food/beverages and will run until the day after Christmas. Does that sound good? Anyone have any input?0

I think Wednesday is good, will probably be pretty quiet until Friday. Now since the groups aren't sending out notifications do you want to put this in the main forums. Watching the thread about joining the group had more activity it might get more involved.
I hope that makes sense I'm on my first cup of coffee and definitely not awake0 -

We can start on Thursday if ya'll want-- I just thought if we started on Thursday people might miss it until Friday and they might not have food porn pics to share as a result.0

Just tried Jeni's Midwest Whiskey Eggnog - wonderful bourbon flavor with a perfect balance of spices, super creamy only thing I missed was mix ins. So next time I think I might try it mixed with the whiskey & pecans... more booze & nuts can't go wrong

Like. Although what kind of whiskey would you mix it with? I'm assuming not a single malt; I kind of feel like that would just be a waste.0 -
