In honor of tonite's football game I am eating Jeni's "Buckeye State"....I don't really care who wins but making roast duck seemed like too much trouble.
After looking all holiday season for Talenti Egg Nog I just discovered the Talenti at the gourmet grocer by me is in the Italian section and not with the rest of the ice cream I also discovered a second "better" baking aisle....where was that chocolate when I was making Bourbon Balls?0 -
I found the Talenti Eggnog. I'm not really in an eggnog mood now, and I guess no one else is either which made it easier to find, but I grabbed some anyway and will try it tomorrow.0

Brat!
The real downside to finding where they have the Talenti is seeing all the other kinds of Gelato I didn't know they had....

Tried the salted caramel, which was very good, but didn't overly impress. Based of recommendations here, I tried the southern pecan, which was even better, but again, still wasn't getting the big deal about this ice cream.
Until last night. My wife has been looking for pumpkin pie flavored Talenti all season and finally we saw it a Key Foods yesterday. She got two and went home. She texted me that this flavor was beyond brilliant and raved about it. And she was right. Tastes just like the best damn slice of pumpkin pie you've ever tasted, just creamy and cold. Amazing.
Wait til you try it on French toast.0 -

It's their house brand tiramisu gelato. It was really solid. No mix-ins, but a good balance of flavors and decent calorie count- 190 per 100g.
Wow, 190 for 100g is really good! It's hard to find counts like that!
I did a double take on both that one and the Gelato Fiasco. The GF doesn't have weight listed for the serving size but the contents of the container divided by 4 is 120g, which is on par with the serving size they gave . . . was it Jen or Karen? . . . well anyway, the weight they gave for the Peanut Butter Stracciatella. So 170 for 120g on that one and 190 for 100g on this one-- both excellent.
That was me. And I'm bummed that I couldn't find it when I went back to Balducci's. I wanted to try a different flavor. I did buy some Edy's French Silk the other day. I really like that! And as of this morning, the work freezer is officially out of ice cream. I finished the last of the Whoopie Pie. I need to make a shopping trip today.0 -

That's right. Sorry, Cupcake, I've got the memory of an 80-year-old woman. I love the French Silk. It's easily my favorite low calorie ice cream.0 -

I felt like a brat! I was shamed into buying it. I had a spoonful though and I think I'm going to be glad I got it.
Idk that sounds like an upside to me. You should take a photo and let us help you pick.0 -

So I went to one of the two west coast locations offering Gelato Fiasco this afternoon - figuring they might also have some of the high end gelatos I've heard about in this group and the predecessor threads to this group.
The Fresh Market -- this is a popular place back east, particularly south, I guess? I had never heard of it (visit to their website shows three CA locations, a half-dozen in TX and everything else is further east) -- but classical music in the background and hard wood floors and I guess you can carry $12 pint ice cream, right? I was impressed with their gelato selection -- in addition to the below, Graeter's, Talenti, several others.
I am intrigued by Steve's Sunday Morning - though a subsequent quick Google :MFP search shows that MrM27 really enjoyed it, and Acrylics was not impressed. It sounds up my alley, so we shall see. And I had to grab the Jeni's Whiskey & Pecan because (1) sounds great, and (2) GiveMeCoffee ranked it in her top 3 or top 5!
Shame I am cutting and didn't really plan my day for a large serving of gelato tonight. I'll have a touch of something, I'm sure, after dinner, but the real tasting will have to wait for a better planned day.
*** Side note (warning, potentially offensive language ahead): when I casually shared with my wife -- while she was busy on the computer with some work stuff and so a bit distracted -- when I shared that the Jeni's was $12 for the pint, she stopped what she was doing, turned to me, and stated "That's retarded. Why would you spend that?" Jen - I may send her your way depending on our Whiskey & Pecan reactions.
Edit to add: Was just explaining to the kids that they are *not* allowed to have any of the above without asking first, and my wife couldn't help but comment: "I can pretty much guarantee you that no ice cream on the planet is worth what you paid for that. So dumb I can hardly believe it." I don't think she would be able to admit that she loves it, even if it turns out that she loves it.0 -
I'm just a warm syrup person. The flavor was good I just couldn't get over it being cold. Which really, I should have thought of that.0

No worries! And it really struck home how right you were wrt the calorie count on the GF Dark Choc -- amazing. Since I am cutting a few pounds, I checked out labels -- almost got the PB Straciatella but couldn't pull the trigger given the cal difference with the Dark Choc Caramel. Also almost grabbed the Brambleberry Crisp because I'd never heard of it but wanted the Sunday Morning more; later saw (while MFP searching Sunday Morning) that you've had it -- worth the go?

I'm glad (and I little surprised) that you liked the GF dark chocolate.
I like the Brambleberry Crisp. I've bought it twice. I don't generally like fruit ice cream but the oat clusters make it worth it to me. If you don't mind the price tag I think it's worth a try. It wouldn't be on my "must try at any cost" list.0 -

Haven't tried it yet Was just impressed by the low calorie hit for a serving.
But it's not that I dislike chocolate, just that I'm not a chocolate hound the way, say, MrM might be with respect to caramel. I'm sure I'll like it just fine (I prefer dark choc among all the chocolate possibilities), and may in fact really, really enjoy it - it just wouldn't likely be my "go to" sitting beside gelatos focused on nuts, caramels, some other flavors. Chocolate every once in while is good enough for me

My nieces & nephews loved the French Silk. I bought two & kept one & gave them the other. I was surprised that my two nephews loved the Talenti Fudge Brownie so much that they drank the rest of the cream like a soup! I hated it since I'm not a fan of dark chocolate ice creams but like dark chocolate.0 -

I drooled a little. I'm hoping they have those at my grocery. I'll check for them.
I tried the Turkey Hill Whoopie Pie because of this group. I liked it a lot. We also got the chocolate marshmallow flavor since it was on sale. I'm not a big chocolate ice cream fan, but I'd buy both of those again.

You can send her over my way, she would flip if she started mentally tallying the amount of money I have in gelato. Now I will say I purposely didn't tell my husband the price of the Jeni's before he tasted it. Once he said how great it was, I just let him know it's not something we would be eating frequently. I think you'll love it, it's got a nice but not overpowering whiskey flavor, the crunch from the pecans YUM now I want more.0

I'm gonna have to be on the lookout for the cookie butter one.0 -
So I tried my Talenti Eggnog tonight. It was very yummy. Very creamy with plenty of eggnog flavor. I think I prefer it to actual eggnog, because the amount of eggnog you get for the calories is so pitiful. At least eating it instead of drinking it makes it seem to stretch farther.0

I didn't see that anyone had found the Sunday Morning yet. The girl at Balducci's was going to put in a word to the manager to order it, but I still haven't seen it. Now I really want it!
Unrelated, but related, because ice cream, I bought Market Pantry's Pumpkin Pie, which is reduced fat, and it was pretty good. Not Talenti good, but good enough that I'm not sorry I have to eat 11 more servings.
I'm glad to hear we have another Whoopie Pie fan, too! Yay!!! Mine is all gone. *cries*

I made room for a serving and a half or so, and so tried a bit of each of the three I bought yesterday.
Jeni's Whiskey & Pecan: Very subtle whiskey flavor - a little too subtle for me, I think. I think I'd like stronger whiskey. The pecans are delightful and plentiful. I only had 40 grams, so I am going to keep an eye on whiskey subtlety throughout the pint. Very nice consistency on the ice cream itself.
Steve's Sunday Morning: Nice and enjoyable and about what I expected. I like the flavors and the swirls of maple syrup. Only 35 grams, and I didn't get a mix-in of the promised crisp waffle pieces. Anxiously awaiting that experience next time around but even without it I still enjoyed the flavors.
Gelato Fiasco Dark Chocolate Caramel Sea Salt: This one *really* surprised me. I am going to echo Acrylics' ringing endorsement. Rich chocolate with a caramel undertone. What really impressed though was the consistency. I'm not sure what they've done, but there's a dense, fudge-like mouth feel to this gelato. I am guessing chocolate lovers will find this irresistible. For someone like me who takes chocolate in smaller doses than many, it is almost irresistible. This might be a "go to" pint even for me, and it will definitely compete for freezer space with caramels, hazelnuts, coconuts, and other flavors.0 -
Yay I'm glad you liked it.0

I think I have to try and find some of the gelato fiasco. Just to see if it can bring me to the chocolate side of life. Thanks for the reviews.0

Sounds like you're going to have to make a whiskey float with this one!

My wife tasted all three last night, too. Her view was the Whiskey & Pecan was good, just "not $12 good; no ice cream is." She's not letting that one go. She also countered my "whiskey flavor too subtle" opinion with "yeah, but you frequently sip straight bourbon and tequila and really enjoy those flavors. Most people aren't sipping liquor before bed and would find the whiskey flavor just fine, I think." So, there's that.
She got a few waffle crisps in the Sunday Morning but was not overwhelmed by them. She didn't share any .
And she was also very impressed with the GF. She is a dark chocolate hound - like, she has dark chocolate on hand at *all* times - but she was, like me, most impressed by the density and mouth feel combined with the richness of the flavor.
