Seriously, frozen cool whip? And how many suggestions of frozen bananas are we going to get?

Notice I didn't even drop a link to this group in here like I usually do in ice cream threads. I don't think I want to invite people who think that watermelon is a viable ice cream substitute.

That's no joke Amber. Plus we would probably get flagged for abusing those people.

I don't know, I am liking some of those ideas like blending up bananas, adding a bunch of almonds, and chocolate too. That's gotta save like, what, negative 120 calories? I can practically see a vein in MrM's forehead pulsing when I read his replies. :p

I need to stop coming to this thread. We are out of gelato (BF polished off the sea salt caramel from Trader Joes for breakfast a few days ago), and I have to get to Fresh Market soon. If only it weren't in the high traffic area. I guess I can suffer through it so that we have something for desert tonight.

(We've also both made a pact that we want to do better at cutting - he's never tracked calories - so we're limiting gelato to when we can both fit it into our calories after dinner. No more breakfast disappearances when I'm already at work...)

    Yeah that thread is ridiculous...

So, local ice cream place, The Bent Spoon in Princeton. I tried the rum pumpkin coconut and wasn't a fan, but the hazelnut was out of this world. They had other flavors but I can't resist hazelnut (my sister said the milk chocolate one was amazing too). Got my ice cream fix now (and they have seriously delicious hot chocolate too).

The GF is both great on its own, and great for someone cutting! Not sure how it is so dense and creamy and rich and still so very light on a cal budget. Since you're going to be at Fresh Market anyway . . .

    Not yet, but I will.

Acrylics mentioned in her original Dark Choc post that GF has run hot or cold for her. She liked the PB Straciatella (that, BTW, has a *much* different calorie profile than the dark choc) but not so hot on the Cookie Therapy. I bet Acrylics can shed more light on the whys.

    Yep.

The PB Stracciatella was amazing. It's a sweeter peanut butter base, more like the B&J Candy Bar Pie, not like the Peanut Butter Core (if you've had those). Kinda like the inside of a Reese's. It's a higher calorie count (290?).

I didn't care for the Cookie Therapy just because it seemed like a pretty run of the mill cookies and cream. It wasn't bad or anything, it just wasn't all that special. I liked Blue Bell just as well if not better, and that one is only 170 calories per serving. I can't remember how many the Cookie Therapy has but it's up in the 200s.

I've also had the Toasted Marshmallow S'more. I liked it; it had a nice graham cracker base and big marshmallow and small chocolate chip mix-ins. I found it really rich and only ate 2 servings out of the container. Mr. Acrylics finished it up. MrM did not like it. He thought it had a cinnamony taste, and he hates cinnamon.

Just had a serving of 3 twins sea salted caramel. It was not too caramelly. Soft and creamy. The more it melted the tastier it became. My review skills lack the depth of everyone else.

Nah - each review adds a little something.

I still have yet to find 3 twins.

Hm, I love cinnamon, so I may give that one a try (it intrigued me on the website). I'll definitely need to look at the calorie counts, but the PB stracciatella sounds really good.

Didn't make it to the store yesterday as I had to stay at work late, but I made the BF promise that we could go to fresh market on Sunday and he's not allowed to veto for price.

    That thread is still going . . . um . . . "strong"?

And, though not ice cream related, there is a companion thread offering an alternative to pizza. I kid you not, the suggested alternative is nothing more than an overcooked frittata with some pizza sauce (guy apparently didn't know that frittata was a thing). Lots of smh this time of year :)

The frittata seems to be a really common paleo sub. I thought about it once, but I don't really think I'd want a frittata covered in pizza/tomato sauce, cheese and toppings. I'd rather just have cheese and veggies mixed in. Now I just need to figure out how to not have them stick to the pan...

Wasn't paleo - gluten free approach. But also calorie conscious because he suggested turkey sausage instead of basic italian sausage, low fat cheese, etc. The really sad thing was cooking it all long enough so the eggs and cheese got "hard" - made it more like pizza, according to the OP.

Hmm I wonder where the best place to check would be. Probably Publix around here.

Hm, so I couldn't wait until Sunday and I had extra calories, so I picked up some Talenti peppermint bark. It was good, but it doesn't seem all that different from what I'd expect from a mint chocolate chip. It was creamy, and the chocolate pieces were great, but it didn't seem much like a seasonal flavor. I think it could be pretty standard year round.

Of course, mint chocolate chip is one of my favorite ice cream flavors, so I think it's pretty good. And now I'm just annoyed that it's not available year round.
