My work schedule has simply blown up sky high. I've been working at least 2 hrs extra each day - add to that my 2+ hour daily commute... you see where I'm going?

The best laid plans of mice and men - no gym, minimal lifting, loads of walking and I'm just plain bummed.

The good news is that I have had a call from one of the trainers there, who will help me with the Stage 2 lifts. Right now, all I'm doing is a few deadlifts or squats, and pull downs bent over BB rows, and some crunches. Not even a whole workout, just enough I hope to keep away DOMs. I really hope he's there tomorrow night, I've called and left a vmail waiting to hear from him.

Wow it must have been crappy sleep night - I woke up at 2:30 and couldn't get back to sleep until of course 30 minutes til my alarm goes off. I hate that! I'm fuzzy brained all day!

Hope everyone gets good sleep, rockin lifts, and yummy food. I'm going to sleep

    Me - 9
    NEP - 0

    Yea!

In case anyone has wondered, I haven't fallen off the planet. Just the wagon.

Seriously though, I'm having a really tough time. I'm so overwhelmed with school and my schedule. I'm eating HORRIBLY. Still not sleeping well. And because of it all, I think I've worked out once in three weeks. I feel like crap. Emotionally and physically. I keep telling myself, it's just a few weeks, it's just few weeks. Next semester it is a lighter load. Only one class. And then after that, if I get admitted, it will be two years of crazy train. I am wondering if it is worth it while the kids are still home. :frown:

GOOD NEWS: my new Tempurpedic comes tomorrow. This makes me happy. I hope once I start sleeping (and I am convinced I will), I will have the energy to squeeze those workouts in. I hate feeling like this.

    MARY: welcome back.
Hang in the Jess. :flowerforyou: I love my Bob-o-pedic and it's a knock off. Never slept better.

Finally got back to the gym last night and felt awesome!! I always feel stronger after a rest week, even an unplanned one. I upped weights which is good, even if the gym was crowded and full of creepers. Weird for a Tuesday. Overslept two days in a row and Gave blood tonight. I feel exhausted. I started extended hours and it's funny how that little bit of extra time on the clock at work can seriously drain. But SUE you've got me by two hours on the clock via work and travel. Bless you woman.

However, my protein always sucks. ME: 10 NEP: 14

Maybe there's something in the air? I slept horribly last night as well. I think it affected my workout this morning too. (I forced myself to go, even though I was very tired.)

Beeps - I hope you get good numbers on Friday. I had the opposite of a fast day today. I'm glad I weigh-in on Mondays. Let's just leave it at that. :)

Cowgirl - I'm moving too -- this weekend in fact! It's stressful isn't it?! Are you staying local? We are; just moving to a bigger place. I bought my house when I was single, and now I have a family of 4 + cat and dog. We are crammed in here. I'm actually on track with packing. I have been packing boxes for the last week and we started moving boxes to the new place a few days ago. So all we have left to do (ideally) on Saturday is just move the heavy stuff. We were going to do it ourselves to save money, but my husband found a pretty great deal on movers, so I think we'll go that route. WAY less stress and I'm a much better supervisor when it comes to moving.

Sue - so true about best laid plans. Hope you (all of us actually) get better sleep tonight.

I'm loving Stage 2 so far, but my first B workout was today and all I can say is WOW. Way tougher than it looks on paper.

Today ended up being an unplanned rest day for me. Was supposed to be just a cardio day but when my alarm went of at 5:45 I just couldn't do it. So I got an extra hour of sleep! I don't usually do rest days from all exercise, so I guess this is good! Back on my elliptical tmw though and then lifting on Friday! I strained my back muscles a bit on Monday upping my DL to 80lbs so I think the next two workouts I am going to drop back down and focus a LOT on form. I was def sacrificing form just to up my weights - no good!

off to bed for me for a good night's sleep!

Jess - I have been wanting an tempurpedic FOREVER!! I can't even sleep without a tempurpedic pillow now. I hope it helps you!

On another note: anyone here ever tried carb back loading? I am a low carber because that is what works best for my body, but I am really intrigued by the idea of carb back loading but wanted to see if anyone has given it a shot!

    night all!

Not even *close* yesterday....too many skipped meals and by supper, I wanted some potatoes, lol.

Sue!! You are KILLING the protein challenge!

emgel - I don't know what "carb back loading" is....but, I'm interested to read and find out!

OKAY, PROTEIN CHALLENGERS - THERE'S ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT IN THE CHALLENGE, SO GET YOUR PROTEIN IN!

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT ENDORSING THIS METHOD OF EATING, I HAVE NEVER TRIED IT!!!

Carb back loading, which I have been reading about, is a method of carb cycling (from what I can tell) developed by a physicist named John Kiefer. It has to do with giving your muscles carbs at the optimal times. It ONLY applies to people who are lifting heavy and deals with building muscle (he has a program for burning fat which is just low carb with a re-feed). Anyway, if you google it you will find TONS of stuff on it, but the crux is this: you do 10 days of 30g of carbs or less. On the 10th day you eat as many carbs as you want. Then you eat <30g of carbs every day except on days you lift. On days you lift you basically carb binge at night. It sounds like total BS but i've read enough about it that it prob does work if you are actually lifting heavy.

I was jw if any awesome NROL4W ladies had tried it. He claims it is a carb optimization method. It is sort of interesting.

    Again, not endorsing it lol

    Hi all!

Stage 2 B, my first B workout tonight. My foot is bothering me so I'm having to modify a bit. I feel like stage 2 looks easy but isn't. My body has been so used to Stage 1 moves that I think it's partly a coordination issue.

Getting better at the protein. I've lost track of the challenge, but I've been aiming for at least my LBM. I've been hitting that but not 1g per bodyweight.

Emgel: I do something similar in that I eat high fat, low carb on rest days and high carb, low fat on training days (with most carbs after my workout) Protein high all days. It's a similar method but I have yet to find out how much that contributes to my fat loss vs. simply being in a deficit. BUT, I totally enjoy pigging out on carbs 3X a week! So for my mental health it's nice :)

I'm a carb junkie. There is NO way I can eat 30 g of carbs or less a day. Does that include the carbs in veggies? just curious, like I said, there's no way i can do it.

I dunno about the carb-cycling stuff. I just plain don't know. I just think what counts as "heavy lifting" ends up being QUITE subjective....I mean, dudes are talking about deadlifting 600 lbs and benching 450 - so, yes, maybe they need "fuel". But, for a woman (like me) who is lifting as heavy as I can (not that heavy, by comparison...) I just don't think it's going to matter that much. But, that's just me. When I am "off the carbs", it's amazing how much I end up NOT craving them, and how flat my tummy is. For me, that is how it works and I LIKE it like that!

I'd want to read LOTS more on "how to build muscle" before launching into stuff. Supposedly I've been building muscle all year - maybe yes, maybe no. I just know, for ME, I NOW want my muscles to SHOW....so, I have to get rid of the fat.

And, I am getting rid of the fat. 2 months left in my master plan and rebirth!

    hello everyone.
I've noticed two things since I've been lifting with weights (moved off the machines).
One: I have really vivid dreams
Two: My voice turns deeper after I have a lifting session -- I swear. It lasts until the next morning and then I'm back to my normal voice, which isn't high-pitched at all.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Also, good for all you that are getting tons of protein! I'm still about 20-30 grams shy nearly every day.

hahahaha Kate you just CRACKED me up!!!

When I lift, and I mean when I get in a good lift, by night time I am too exhausted to dream

As for the voice thing, it's possible you are straining your throat when you lift (I have noticed this sometimes either bc I am struggling with a lift and grunting or bc I breathe through my mouth sometimes) - but i don't think you are turning in to a man!

Hi everyone! Just checking in and letting you know that I'm still at it! Will be doing stage 1 5-b tomorrow. I am at that point now that I will either have to purchase more weights or hit the gym (which I'm choosing more weights lol - can never have enough weights lol).

I haven't been dreaming more when I lift but I do know that sometimes I am FAMISHED (and exhausted lol) after a good lifting session. Good thing the protein shakes are so filling!

Can't say my voice has changed.....but it may be because I haven't noticed.

LOL Kate! I never even noticed! I will now pay attention. I generally don't remember dreams. At all... Ever.. unless it's a nightmare and it wakes me up. Then I remember the detail vividly!

My good news is that I have an appt on Saturday morning (7 AM!!) with a trainer at the gym to go over Stage 2 A!! YEA!! I'm very excited, nervous and feeling a bit intimidated by actually lifting at the gym! They have only oly equipment - good and bad - but Pat has already said don't get discouraged if you can't put the same weight on. I know the bar is 35 lbs heavier than my stuff at home!

Tonight I will do some lifting and some cardio on the new elliptical, presuming I get of work early enough.

No voice issues after lifting here, but then I spend all day on the phones at work so generally suffer with voice strain anyhow. I sometimes struggle to get to sleep as I can get over tired, but not had vivid dreams.

Carb cycling sounds interesting, but I wouldn't have the discipline to do it properly.

Workout 6A done this evening which went well, but I am soooo tired! I needed an extra rest day after my mega cleaning session on Tuesday as I slightly over stretched my right knee when cleaning the bath. It's been grumbling and feeling a bit unstable ever since due to an old ski injury, but didn't appear to affect my workout which is a relief. The next few days will tell if I've got away with it! What I don't get away with is a large vein which runs directly over the top of my right kneecap and it becomes uncomfortable for several hours after lifting - ugh.

Planning to take the weekend off and enjoy with my friends from Germany, then back to the tracking and gym on Monday :drinker:

Your voice changes because of all that manly testosterone pumping through your body after lifting...

Kate gets the 'best post of the day' award! I have vivid dreams (don't know if it's related to lifting or not), but can't recall anything about my voice....hey, call me next time you're done your weights and I'll judge whether it's REALLY low, or just merely scratchy and dry!

MtnKat - the gym just has SO many more options!

Sue - I'm so glad you are moving onto Stage 2 and working on your form. YOU WILL KILL IT!

jsextra - friends from germany IN OCTOBER?????????? I guess they can show you ALL ABOUT OKTOBERFEST! Have fun.

merm - I was gonna say that maybe her voice changed because she was responding to all the cat-calling going on!

    Gawd, I need a work-out. Please. Tomorrow....

LOL, Kate! I had really vivid, crazy dreams when I first started lifting too. I thought it was related to starting melatonin at the same time, but maybe not.

Carb cycling: sounds interesting. I struggle with carbs, so I might benefit from having "binge" days.

Beeps, I need a workout too!

Haha, she should put us all on conference call and we can let her know if it's manly deep or just "sexy" deep. Kate, I wish lifting gave me vivid dreams! I love dreaming. The first few nights of IF did that, but not anymore :(

Stage 2, first workout B tonight. I'm SO tired today I've been dragging. Hoping I can pull out of it in time to get a good work out in. My foot has been hurting too, ugh. I tell myself it's a blessing in disguise so I don't have to do cardio (funny the things we tell ourselves!)

SUE: On you on NROL4W Stage 2?

ME: 10 NEP: 15 just not hitting it and to be serious. I don't like the effect that high protein days have on my regularity (TMI)
TOnight is a "rest" day...now only if I could leave work at work and get some actual rest. Tomorrow I'm doing a 1.5 hr Zumbathon for breast cancer research. It's at work so I'm not bothering to drive home. Yep I'm going to stay at work for an unpaid three hours and do work. Life is grand, but Zumba will be fun.

Sort of hoping to have vivid dreams tonight!

So I think on Nov 7 I am going to try carb cycling. I had to pick nov. 7 so I would have enough days to do what is basically the induction phase lol. I'm reading a book called Carb Nite, same guy who came up with Carb Back Loading - but Carb Nite is focused on fat loss rather than muscle gain.

Once I figure out how to keep it under 30g of carbs per day (I range between 50 and 80 now) I think this might work for me because I also enjoy binging (not in a bad way, but while I like eating low carb sometimes I want to be able to stuff my face). Anyway, I'll be sure to report back since I haven't been losing any weight lately - so shaking things up might be good!

It helps that the hubby doesn't eat carbs.

Back in the gym tmw am! grrrrrrrrr

hoping for some vivid dreams tonight, hahahaa

    Kill it today BEEPS!

....HOLY GLUTES! Did Stage 2 B last night and my booty and hammies are feeling it. Which is great because I want a nice big round firm tush, lol. Think my glutes are definitely lacking because it was tough. Easy on paper but the Bulgarian split squats and even reverse lunch off the box got me bad. I was tempted to do an extra set of Deads for my first exercise and am glad I didn't :)

Feeling totally drained the last few days and no workouts for me. Lost track of my protein count, I think it's

I did pretty good with my protein still when I was down and out. Stayed home the last couple days and rested, not really sick, just completely exhausted.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

it has been a rough week. I have only been able to lift ONE day. which is tough for me. but I am exhausted, overwhelmed and stressed with life right now. I am planning a run for Sat. morning, I typically run a good run on the weekend, so I am happy to be planning on that.

I hope to get back at it on Monday and until then I live vicariously through you all...and you all kick as&!

I feel ya gadenni. Crazy week for me too with moving. Why oh WHY did I not take off yesterday and today???! I took off next Mon and Tues instead. I'm sure I'll be up all night tonight preparing for the movers.

But I made it to the gym M/W/F -- ending my first week of Stage 2. WHEW. It's so much tougher than it "reads." I really like it, but I need help with the front squat push press. Just doesn't feel right yet.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    I did get a good work-out in.

    I did NOT get a good weigh-in.

Last week, I has a SURPRISE whoosh! So, this week, I was COUNTING on something similar (since my diet plan has been PERFECT.) Nope. I've gained 1.7 lbs from where I was last week.

I'm pissed off. I won't write anything further. I wanted to be down even MORE this week, because end-of-Oct stats are coming up. Now I have to lose the 2 lbs I expected to still have to lose, PLUS the 1.7 lbs that I was "surprised" with, today.

And, yes, my eating was PERFECT. I even fasted on Tuesday. I weighed at same time of day under same conditions.

It isn't "water weight" (I don't believe). It isn't DOMs. It isn't salt. *kitten*.

    Beeps, that sucks!

Had a great time at the zumbathon last night. I hung in there for the full hour and a half. burn an estimated 700 cals.and I totally nailed my protein yesterday. However, I also ate an ounce of spinach. THank you spinach. TIme for some Halloween festivities before "frankenstorm" hits and we have a week of being trapped in the house and missing out on real Halloween. Then I'll end up eating the 2 lbs of chocolate I bought sigh.
