    Hi,

I just joined this group and was so glad to find it.

I was going to add that I like going on Zappos because I'm addicted to shoes. But they also have great outfit ideas if you click on the links at the top of the page. Almost as good as interest!

Also, my trick is to steal my daughter's gummy princess vitamins. It satisfies the sweet tooth without many calories. Or sometimes I get sugar-free cherry lifesavers.

I wondered if anyone else is a student? I'm going back to school for nursing. I find that eating snacks is part of my study routine and I'd like to stop doing that. I'd welcome any suggestions.

Lots of problems with snacking while studiyng. I try to study away from my house and refrigerator. If that is not possible. I study in the living room.

Drinking enough water was always a challenge for me so when I got my 8 glasses in for a day I indulged in one of my not so guilty pleasures of sparkling water, which I love. Now it's just automatic around 8 pm if I had enough water for the day I get my "fizzy" water.

I mall walk to combine walking with window shopping (most malls open a few hours early for walkers here in PA)
Going to the Ren. Faire is always a big reward for me.
I love to write letters so getting new note cards is always a reward
Taking the time to do my nails
Rarely - taking a night at a local hotel that has in room Jacuzzis or a hot tub is a major reward
    A new book
An encouragement card from a friend or family member.

    * Netflix and knitting
    * Reading a book - I have at least 5 going at all times
    * Going out with the girls to listen to live bands at the local bars
    * Sex (with or without my hubby!)
    * Surfing the internet (I have to stay away from Pinterest or I'll be on there for HOURS!)
    * Drinking water, esp. when I've added a sprig of chocolate mint
    * Decluttering my house
    * Going for a drive to my favorite swimming spot late at night to do some clandestine night swimming
    * Crafting - my goal is to have a completely handmade holiday one of these years

Because money is very tight around my house, I have to be very creative in finding treats that don't cost anything. I've traded baked goods and craft items for massages and mani-pedis, but that's only once or twice a year at most. I find even having my morning cup of coffee on the back porch rather than at the kitchen table is a treat for me...

I love to read, but I read so much I can easily inhale food without even think about it. So for me I need to do something to keep my hands and mind busy to avoid emotional eating, or boredom eating. Recently, I've worked on making my sons birthday decorations and that helps a lot! Scrapbooking is another good one for me too.

be careful you can seriously damage your jaw. I forget the name of it but it will make your jaws hurt for the rest of you life.

it is truly amazing how much more of yourself you find when you stop covering it up with food.

SO TRUE. I used to/I often spend hours hiding myself away, binge eating and feeling horrible... That's how I would spend my day!! Disgusting, but also- more importantly -completely uninspiring/unproductive.
  • Hmmm..usually I tend to reward my self with my favorite snack or meal but after reading your post I have a new spin on my "reward" system. So for this week I will reward myself with a medi/pedi from my ALL time favorite salon that I don't usually visit too often.

    Thanks for the post!
  • I really like your quote. I wont call myself a binge eater but I do I over eat and feel horrible immediately afterwards. I was raised to never waste food so instead of eating until I am satisfied I eat every last bit. I am now teaching myself how to eat smaller portions and stop when I feel satisfied and not stuffed.
  • Journaling
    Long chats with close pals
    Massage
    Date night with husband
Rewatching one of my favorite movies
Long walk on a crisp fall day
Family music night (play guitar, big fire roasting smores, horseshoes, lots of laughing and talking)

So glad to see that reading a magazine is not so old school it's extinct. I consider getting one of those and indulging in it a "treat".
Also go to the movies or rent a movie (redbox is great!) as something special.
But since we are emotional eaters. these things may or may not keep us from eating. Usually there is something underlying that is on our minds or bothering us, or stressing us out, so the best thing is to call and talk to someone: a friend, your mom (if that is someone who you like to talk with and helps you with your problems - mine I can tell even the mundane details of my life to and she likes to hear it) or someone from an OA (overeaters anon.) group if you have gone to one. If not - try one of those and get some numbers - these are people who can relate to eating not because you are hungry but because of a bad day, worry, or something bigger in your past.
  • I try to get up move but some time I just cant I do it for my family in mind.
  • - Go shopping
    - Online shopping
    - Take the kids to do something fun (park, etc)
    - Plan a birthday party for someone
    - Clean a closet
    - Call an old friend
    - Call your mom.

Salsa dancing... I never want to eat when I am out dancing even if the food is readily available which clearly proves that most of the time I do not eat because I am hungry. Love swimming, volleyball, Zumba and Pilates too

You register using your email address or FaceBook. Then you can search for things to save: recipes, sayings, pictures, crafts etc. When you are ready you can go back and follow the directions for the crafts or recipes, etc.
  • When I was growing up, my mother use to say idle hands are the devil's workshop. She would teach me crocheting, embroidery, cross stitch, crafts, reading whenever I said I was bored. I can't do a lot of this stuff any more due to the pain in my hand joints from arthritis. But anything to keep me busy will help me stay away from the emotional eating.
  • mine is to take my camera and go out shooting...that can take my mind off things..and its so rewarding when you get a good pic.

I relate I was an addict. I had quit meth and used pot quit pot and drank quit drinking accept special occasions (vacation) and eat. I also always through myself into my crazy schedule. I had fulltime work, part time military and first degree than second degree, Than finished those and had part and fulltime job. Now military done, school done, good paying job so only need one and really feeling lost. I found I moved here five years ago an don't have one friend I never had time for friends extra time was with family and when I traveled home I had friend time with my old friends. I don't know what makes me happy anymore besides food and than my weight makes me depressed. :( I don't have money to go shopping get massages or salon and I like to cook but I cook what I like than over eat. Struggling to find activities I enjoy even worse it being winter and to cold to do outside activities.

That is all good, but meeting up with friends is bad as my friends always want to go to mcdonalds or some fast food place.
