I love them. Great way to try a bunch of different things. I usually have better luck going with girlfriends than my husband or couples...

Yup, tapas is fun because you just taste a bunch of things.
There was this great one I got at a placein boston.
Milk poached veal sweetbreads, that were then sauteed, and served with some mushrooms and a little wine reduction.0 -
Went to a Tom+Chee restaurant the other day, a chain that has different kinds of grilled cheese and tomato soup. I had the Mac n Cheese grilled cheese. It was just ok, I think I just ordered poorly. It wasn't actually very cheesy, as strange as that sounds, it was like butter noodles with then a slice of cheese on the bread. The creamy tomato soup was very good as were the grilled cheese donuts desserts...

I don't think we have Tom & Chee out my way. Looks like yummy comfort food!
After a large breakfast yesterday at the MIL's (where we spent the night following a cool concert), my wife and I decided to graze for a combo lunch / dinner on the back patio. The rest of the country's horrible weather seems to be offset by unusually warm weather in California, where we are experiencing mid 60s - mid 70s weather in Feb and March. (please don't stab me).
Quasi-Italian spread with the addition of some roast beef (that my wife loves, roasted by a local joint) and some roasted turkey (same joint), because if I've learned anything from MFP, especially recently, those cured meats are unambiguously unhealthy or bad and I need to offset them with some healthy or good stuff like lean turkey breast (and resveratrol-packed red wine of course).

I'm not a huge donut person but I kind of want to try that s'more sandwich.
We used to live close to an awesome gourmet grilled cheese place (the Bleu Squid in Mystic, CT) and I kinda miss that. I don't miss the Northeastern weather but I do miss a lot of the food/art/tourist attractions.0 -

I used to have to go to Groton pretty often for work, there are lots of great places up there!0 -

My husband really misses Paul's Pasta in downtown Groton. He still talks about it all the time.
I really miss working at the aquarium and being able to take the train into Manhattan.

It was pretty good. They had a regular dessert one that was glazed donut and cheddar and it was just ok. The s'mores one seemed more dessertish...

We went to the Tom & Chee in Newport/Cincinnati a couple of years ago, and it was awesome. They opened a chain closer to where I live, so my husband and I went. I don't know if it was just what we ordered, or if it wasn't as good as we remembered, but the food was awful. Greasy and tasteless. We were super bummed.

Yeah I was kind of meh on what I ordered. It was Friday during Lent so I was trying to not order meat, but wanted something more than the plain grilled cheese so I tried that mac n cheese grilled cheese. My sister had the BLT Grilled Cheese and it looked good, but really just looked like a BLT with cheese on it. Same with some of the turkey grilled cheese sandwiches I saw other people getting, I would call that a turkey melt, not a grilled cheese. I think I'm too particular though... others seemed to love it. The creamy tomato soup was really good though.

Easter dinner-- we tried out a new wood-fired pizza place. It was incredible-- we'll be back for sure.

Wood fire pizza is my favorite. So hard to find though.0

Chipotle puree for sauce. Roasted red pepper, chicken, Monterey Jack cheese and pickled onions and cilantro. Chased with a habenero beer.

The pizza looks awesome! Both of them actUally! Is that the Ska beer? Where's it made?

Is it sad that I'm in a hurry to get to work so I can see the pictures in this thread? So far my work computer is unaffected by the ginormous photo issue.0

The pizza and beer are from steamworks brewing in Durango Colorado.. The beer is called prescribed burn.0 -
I'm on a weekend Girls Trip to the Lake of the Ozarks. It's a huge summer party destination, but my friends inlaws have a condo so we managed to find a weekend that worked now to just be able to get away. There is a super kitschy strip filled with t shirt shops, tattoo parlors, old time photos, arcades, etc. Saw this shirt and I will be damned if I don't need to find a gif of it to use in the forums, not to mention I need to get it for Acrylics! It's a pug wearing a cape riding a mother F-ing unicorn for crying out loud! AND it's a tank top! How awesome and cheesy is that!
We also passed this place. I mean, look at all the things they sell there! What more could you need in life?
For dinner we went out for pizza. We got two kinds to share, one was 4 meat, one was chicken, artichoke, sun dried tomato and basil.
There was also beer with the pizza, and later, back at the condo, there was wine, chocolate, pretzels with dark chocolate peanut butter, some disgusting beef jerky that my friend bought at the gas station, and sesame sticks.
This happened when I was opening the wine...
I'm sure I will have more to share as the weekend progresses, just thought this group would be amused....0 -
Oh THAT t-shirt. Yes. I need one.0

My trip to Playa del Carmen is a bit of a bust so far (but not for the kids). There is a strong and unusual north wind that has closed the harbor to small diving boats, so no ocean dives in the first two days. The alternative is ceynote diving (fresh water underground / exposed to caverns / lagoons), but with my kids' training schedules and needing to be shepparded and picked up, etc. we couldn't make the timing work for my wife and I to dive. But tomorrow for sure, whether in the ceynotes or ocean.
Food, however, has not been a bust, though I haven't been good about taking pictures. Last night I had a tasty huarache with steak, mushrooms, onions and peppers. And then lots of hot sauce. And too many beers.

Quickie -- the internet is extremely unreliable at the moment.
Chicken enchiladas from lunch yesterday or the day before.
And, as weird as it sounds, I had an excellent falafel-in-pita here in PDC. One of the dive masters working at the dive shop we're using suggested giving it a try -- turns out it is one of the most highly-rated restaurants in PDC on TripAdvisor (which I don't really use, but still). Run by an Israeli family that emigrated. Not the greatest pic but trust me that it was an excellent falafel with very good tahini.
Finally, my "Mayan" platter lunch - a few small taquitos, a small empenada, some Mayan style tacos, a Mayan style tamale, and a chili relleno. Not so convinced any of these are really "Mayan," but a tasty generic Mexican plate nonetheless after exertions diving.
Best news of the trip is that all three of my kids are now certified divers, meaning our family vacations just opened up a bit in terms of opportunities!

I had book club last night which everyone knoWs is just an excuse to drink wine and eat food! I didn't get any good pics of food at book club which included salad, Pesto Pasta with Shrimp, and fancy oatmeal crime pies from a local bakery.
Before book club though a few of us met at a wine bar for MORE wine and food and we ordered these. Smoked turkey leg nachos on homemade sweet potato chips with tomatoes, buttermilk dressing and banana peppers..,. So amazing.
