You Know Who You Are....Rant!

This discussion is for people that are seriously trying to lose weight.
You are the people that gain a pound or two during the week, record it on MFP, then correct your wayward ways, then lose a pound, then do your once-a-week-weigh-in. Then MFP updates your status that you lost a pound. But in reality, you didn't lose anything.
You get likes and comments from your friends. But after months and months, your total loss is a small amount.
I don't log gains anymore for the above reason.
I can see if you're logging gains... but then making progress by losing the temporary gain and then some more weight...but for those that have many months with little progress, why bother logging your gains? If you say, well I need accolades/likes to get me motivated, that's emotional response. Get with the program and try losing the weight.
Correct what your doing wrong or try something else.
There's your motivational rant for today!

I was wondering about that just the other day and decided if I have a gain, I am not going to log it. I will log again when I get below where I was before the gain. . I have to admit I didn't even think about it showing as a loss when I re-lost the gain, but yes, it would look like I was losing more than I really was. The acknowledgments are nice, but I want to really lose and not have to explain that I gained and I am trying to lose it again.. And I am sure that at some point I will gain...

Ha, I don't log my gains partly for this reason! But it helps some people stay accountable so I can see why they do it. To each his own!0
-
I don't log gains unless I go awhile without losing anything again. At some point I update it to reflect reality. I don't do it so I can get the congrats of people, just for my own benefit.0
-
I've logged every day, regardless of gain or loss. But, I got tired of the misleading accolades. I eventually just turned off the feed notification for when I lose weight. It stops the problem, although it does remove the opportunity for people to get excited when I post a new scale low. Then again, if I really wanted, I could always just make the status on me own lauding my new weight.0
-
I have not gained back yet.
But I do a few things when I hit a plateau

I was logging every day regardless, and it was annoying to get the likes. I logged so I would be able to see if there were patterns to when I gained and lost. I didn't know it was an option to turn off the notifications, but now that I know I might do that.0

My scale automatically sends the number of pounds lost to MFP as a status and it sends " X lost 0 lbs" when I gain. The gain in numbers only appears in the progress tab and I love it because I can look back and see the patterns. I never put my weight in manually. So I guess my scale keeps my status honest and I trust Withings and MFP thinking they know what they are doing.
Also, some people like the feedback, actually they get upset if they don't get anyI didn't know there are people that actually don't want feedback.
About some people trying to lose weight for a while and they don't or they lose weight slow... Depends. The more pounds you weight the faster you lose in the beginning. The skinnier you get, the harder it gets. A 350 lbs person will lose 20- 25 lbs a month until they reach 190 lbs, that's when things get slower. But a person that's 150-180 lbs... They will probably lose 5-10 lbs a month, if that.0 -
Chill out Dan!! Why let other people's business work you into a tizzy?
I log daily (unless I'm away from home). My weight fluctuates by up to 14 lbs a week due to medical treatments. Therefore MFP makes it appear that I lose up to 15 pounds a week. It's MFP's error that they only list losses on a newsfeed, skipping gains.
The way I see it, numbers are facts. I record my weight daily so I can see the patterns that exist. Your anger at my "logging gains" is just that, *YOUR* anger. Deal with your issues, don't push it off onto me!0 -
-
Just got a scale that automatically sends the weight. I haven't gained, so I don't know what it will do, but I don't really care. Does the cumulative weight on the bar not count gains? I am a little confused.
Plus if you gained a pound, it's still good that you lost it again. We are none of us perfect.0 -
I've only done it once, it usually annoys me to be congratulated on losing weight that I had already lost, and gained back through binge eating. I had put my weight gain into a different app that I forgot was synced with MFP and it updated it in MFP.0

I log daily to have more data points, so that if I used to weigh daily and only log once a week, but I wanted to see how my days fluctuated, the weight progress chart is for my information only. Since I know I stay on track and even if I have a higher carb or calorie day it usually isn't reflected in the number on the scale. If people want to like my weight loss whether its the same 2 lbs lost over and over again that's for them to do.
I personally don't concern myself with it too much, just like when someone else posts a loss, I couldn't care less if its the same 3 lbs they've been losing for two months. They're still trying and putting the effort in and that's worth me liking.0 -

I've done the same with all notifications too. I log both ways so I can see the chart and to show people later on that it is not a constant straight line.
But how about those people who post self-promoting links at the bottom of their posts. THAT annoys me!0 -
I just log my losses on MFP, and wait for full pound increments. But I keep a more accurate private log on a spreadsheet.0
-
The graph on MFP sucks anyway. I only log loses on it as a way to keep my grandma logging hers (we encourage eachother).0

That's why I don't log gains unless they stick for longer than a couple weeks0

I don't know if I'm one of those you're talking about
, but my weight isn't my main goal, it's a side benefit. It would be nice if it would only post when there is a net loss.
Even if I do end up losing the same 5 pounds 10 times, I don't see any reason why it still shouldn't be considered a good thing each time it happens. It still indicates that even if I strayed from my course, I've made my way back.0 -

I'm glad you're not talking about me. I post "Keto/Low-carb" promoting links:
1) Since you can't search through MFP, you can easily see previous discussions.
2) I am here to help newbies.
3) I include funny stuff.
4) I include studies, scientific stuff.
5) I include stuff for how to use MFP.
6) I include recipes.
7) People send me private e-mails asking about all topics above. So I direct them to see my links.
I hope this helps,
