Trying hard to eat lower carbs this week. Last 3days have been pretty good so I am looking forward to seeing the results.0

Then I wish you could be over here for this good BBQ! It's like drugs!!!!!0

Mmmmmmmmm, BBQ. I love BBQ, especially home grown chicken BBQ with corn right from the garden(we raise our own meat birds and have a laying flock as well). Man, I can't wait for summer the birds will be ready to go to "freezer camp" and the veggies will be ready to be picked.0

As I mentioned I've been going low carb this week and I just wanted to log some of my observations. I started on Saturday. I knew I was retaining a lot of water which was leading to not so great results on the scale plus I've been feeling really bloated the last 2weeks.
Saturday night still sticking with omad I had broccoli and a steak smothered with sautéed onion, mushrooms and provolone cheese.
Sunday I felt in really good spirits all day. My meal was Hawaiian pork and sautéed cabbage. While I noticed I was not drinking any more then normal I was using the rest room alot.
Last night was taco with out the shell and the last of the cabbage ( I'm the only one that eats it and I didn't want to just toss it, it's too good). Once again spending alot of time getting rid of all the excess water my body is holding on to. I did start to feel a little headache and maybe some lightheadedness but I understand that is expected when starting a low carb diet.
Today I stepped and the scale just to get an idea of what was happening and while it is not my weigh in day and it's not an official number, I am very surprised at how low the number was. I know it is water weight, but that's kinda what I was going for.
All of the protein in a low carb diet really fills you up and I found it easier to met and even exceed my 23 hr fast. So that may be helpful for some of you who experienced hunger pains during your fast. Over all it has been going really good and I think I might be sticking to a lower carb menu for the next couple of weeks . can't go wrong with meat, right?0 -
Any dizziness etc is an electrolyte issue on low carb, particularly when dumping water. Eat more salt than would be normal for you and consider supplementing with magnesium. I used a magnesium oil spray. Glad it is working for you!0

I eat a whey protein supps most nights, to help fast the next day and to prevent muscle loss.0

I have tried the low-carb approach and headaches were the first issue I fought with. I understand some people really, really like it, but me, it just isn't a good option. On the shorter term, it makes sense what you are doing. Occasional shot-term low-carb days may be very effective for a nice change-up (I have brisket to polish off!). And sometimes I think the boost in protein and the augmentation of that next big mental connection can indeed decrease hunger.0 -
I've never had headache or dizziness on low carb. It really is optional! Magnesium, potassium and sodium!0

I often get 2-3 headaches a week, unfortunately it's been that way since I was in my teens, so it's really hard to say wether it's the low carbs or just my body going through its cluster headache stage.0

Weird; I got two to three headaches (usually full-on light sensitivity-style migraines) a week in my early 20s. Went away by 28 or 30. Never figured out why. I think it has to do with how efficient your body is with water retention.0 -
Hope you feel better soon!0

I feel fine, thanks. Excited to see what tomorrow on the scale brings. Hopefully everyone has a great day and a great weekend as well0

So, I got rid of the water weight. 5.3 lbs of it to be exact. That puts me at 146.9 and only 12 lbs to go to maintenance.0

Niceeeee!

Thank you everyone. I have finally gotten to the point where I am seeing the difference in the mirror. Seems like you are always the person who sees it last.0

Still here, just not much to post. Been keeping busy getting the chickens started for spring, doing the home made Easter candy and of course trying not to eat it all.0
-
Part of being small means we will occasionally have our lulls of inactivity. I appreciate everyone checking in as they do. Before long here, we'll pick back up.0
-
This group is more active than many, though. And it is always the one I go to first.0
-
Busy weekend ahead with the holiday, work and homestead. Hope everyone has a great weekend.0

Got through the weekend and while I've been posting on the other thread I completely forgot to post my results. 145.4! Down 1.5lbs0

Cheddar bacon ranch chicken with a salad tonight for dinner. I did have some dessert as well, chocolate peanut butter brownie with whip cream. I snacked during the day so not so great in the omad Dept, however, I really can't remember the last time I ate out of my window so I guess we'll call it a cheat day and be done with it. I've been doing low carbs for the last couple of weeks and today not only was I over my calories, I was at the 100g carb mark (I've been trying to keep it close to 20-30.). I experimented with a recipe using ingredients I have barely ever heard of before (coconut flour and almond flour) and I had fun doing it. So I decided it was a good day regardless of what mfp says.
Had my mother and little brother (guess he's not so little he's gonna be 19 soon) over for dinner. They enjoyed being with the chicks and feeding the goat. My brother is autistic and really loves animals so he kept the dogs and cat busy. I love seeing him happy, he has such a huge heart. He even willingly ate the dinner I made which is surprising since he only really eats 4 or 5 things.
Tonight I am feeling really grateful for all of the good things I have in life. A wonderful husband, a beautiful healthy little girl, a saint of a mother, an amazing brother, the ability to provide for my family, really the list goes on and on. Regardless of who or what you believe in, I can say that I have been blessed.
Have a great night everyone!0 -
Thank you newmeadow. I was just sitting back and thinking about my day and it just hit me.
Today I made mashed cauliflower for the first time. It turned out decent. I did add too much roasted garlic for my taste but of coarse my husband said he couldn't taste the garlic at all. Also had salad and burger with provolone cheese and bacon (just no bun).
Getting ready to do my end of the month post in a couple of days and I am feeling pretty good about the loss part, crushed my goal plus some. We will see on Friday what the final outcome is.
Have a great night everyone.0 -
Stayed the same on the scale so pretty pleased with that. I do realize that being with in 10 lbs of my goal things may slow down a bit. Plus I've been eating closer to maintenance the last couple of days.
Monthly update.
Finished the month at 145.4 which is a loss of 7.4 lbs for the month ( goal was to lose 5lbs)and down 26 lbs since the first of the year. The goal I did fail at is an average 3 times in the gym each week, not mad about it just need to get my butt in gear on that front.
Goal for April is to reach 142 and average 2 times at the gym a week.
Have a great night everyone.0 -
That is great progress for the month, Linds. You're doing so well.0
