Lunch today was Korean tacos and fries. There is a relatively new restaurant in the same shopping center as my Kroger. The restaurant, obscurely named Olee's Kitchen Express, has a nice fusion of food available. They have gyros, Korean tacos, garden salads, fries (or chips/crisps), bulgogi bowls, sandwiches, lettuce wraps, and I think more that I don't remember.

I got two taco meals to bring home, each with fries and drink. Mine was teriyaki chicken and spicy chicken bites, one taco of each. J had teriyaki tofu and spicy tofu bites.

We both liked it, and would be happy to eat from there again.
TWO THUMBS UP on this place.

The man should be charged with attempted murder, IMO. By the way, Roswell is one of several cities that intertwine around where I live, and is the city where Bobbi Kristina Brown, Whitney Houston's daughter lived. She used to buy cigarettes and gas from me at our fuel center. The boundaries are very oddly shaped. I pass through one "leg" of Roswell on my way to and from work in John's Creek, and next on that road is Alpharetta, and then more Roswell, and it's almost impossible to tell where one is when one can walk/drive half a mile and be in a different city and then another half mile in the same direction to be BACK in the city where you started!

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! Hot again today. Been up since shortly before five but distracted by feeding Lilo, feeding me, and reading things on the internet. Orchid judging today, and then a short trip to Braselton where I hope to visit a winery and browse their store.

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Sunday! I think if I go back to Olee's Kitchen and get the Korean tacos as lettuce wraps, and JUST get the lettuce wraps, instead of the "meal" that comes with french fries, I'll be fine. The food was really delicious and I was thrilled to see that they had tofu options for J.

Yesterday, after judging, we went (late) to a pool party in Braselton. These friends have a LOT of pool parties in the summer, like every two weeks or so, and a lot of people show up. It's organized that they provide the meats, buns, condiments, napkins, paper towels, plasticware, and the guests donate some money toward that, and also perhaps provide some sides or desserts. Well, since we had orchid judging and got there late we did neither this time, but it's rare for us to arrive late. Usually it's early or not at all. This time it was late, but food was still out. So I did eat some, though J did not. The last time we went after orchid judging, nothing was left but cake. Needless to say, when arriving late like that they don't really expect us to be bringing a side as pretty much everyone has already eaten, and they don't really expect us to donate either as there might not be any food left anyway!

After a couple of hours at the party, we stopped by the Chateau Élan winery and I bought a couple of bottles that I had been eyeing on the internet. The third one I was interested in wasn't out for sale, but maybe next time.

Got a few dishes to do and then I'll ponder laundry. Not a LOT of laundry but we do have three extra towels from what we brought to the pool party, so that side is a bit bulky...I could wait until next week, but I do need to make sure the towels are at least laid out to dry properly.

So far I've had a little bit of lightly buttered Moroccan Olive Bread for breakfast. Heating some Italian sausage in the toaster oven and I'll have a bite of that. Then in a little while I guess I'll get this latest batch of fresh black eyed peas going in a slow cooker, and maybe prepare a couple ears of corn for fried corn. Then I just need to cut up some root vegetables and onion this evening for a roasted vegetable gratin to complete dinner.

The Home Depot truck at Lowe's reminded me of a sort of informal party I went to once, at a Pizza Inn, if I remember right but it might have been a Pizza Hut, where one small group never DID get waited on in the confusion. I think there may have been TWO parties going on at the same time. The small group at one table, part of the party I was attending, ordered Domino's, delivered, to the Pizza Inn/Hut...and when it arrived they were asked to leave, which I expect they were actually quite happy to do, their point being VERY PUBLICLY made.

Ok. Bedtime for Bonzo. And me too. And Lilo...

Dinner was great! Sliced avocado with smoke seasoning, sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, spicy, seasoned black beans (vegan), creamy fried corn (vegetarian - there was milk in them), spicy gratin of root vegetables (vegetarian - cheese), bell peppers, onions, the last of the ramps. And finished off with hot water cornbread, fried, vegan. I ate too much of it, but it sure was good. About half the veggies left, and one good (or two small) servings of the black eyed peas. While the fried cornbread wasn't his mother's fried cornbread, J did like it and ate three small pieces. I ate two and that was all that I made. A very small batch.

    G'night all.

So...I get up at 3:00 a.m. because it takes me a while to get fully awake and actually physically AND mentally able to work and I have to be there by 4:45 a.m. to start.
Today, as I was finishing up my PERSONAL grocery shopping, OFF THE CLOCK, one of the co-managers told me that the person closing tonight had called in. I told her that I didn't have anyone (which meant that they, since they are MANAGEMENT, and I'm technically just a LEAD, not receiving management level pay, would have to find someone though I didn't state it that way.) Trust me, they KNOW how this works.
Nonetheless, I did call (and leave a text for) the ONE person, of my team, who could conceivably have filled in, and asked that person to contact said co-manager at the store, if they could come in to cover the shift, letting the team member know that I had promised nothing.
As far as I was concerned that was the end of the matter for me and my team, as I'd done what I reasonably could, and it was up to MANAGEMENT to find a replacement.
Came home, had a light lunch, went to bed for my usual, and necessary, power nap as I normally would like to have a LITTLE BIT of evening time to be awake to do things like...I dunno...maybe HAVE DINNER/SUPPER, FEED THE CATS, FEED THE SUGER GLIDERS, have a little wine with dinner...get the mail, wash the dishes...nothing TERRIBLY IMPORTANT YOU KNOW, just stuff...and when I take my power nap, I turn my phone to DO NOT DISTURB mode, which can only be disturbed by two people, my mother and my spouse.
Woke to find that there was a missed call/voicemail about an hour and 15 minutes after I'd left work, from ANOTHER, different, co-manager, letting me know about our "little problem" and stating that they had just found out about it (about ah hour after I'd ALREADY DISCUSSED IT with the first co-manager) and they needed me to come in to close tonight"...and to call them at the store. Well, it had been several hours since they called, as they called RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING of my power nap. I didn't call back. Don't even know if that second co-manager was still there by that time.
Apparently the co-managers aren't talking to each other? I had already done what I could. Not my problem.
They can "need me to come in" all they want but:
    1) I have already worked 8 hours today. They cannot, by company policy, REQUIRE me or NEED me to come back to work another 4, 5, or 6 hours tonight.
    2) Requiring me to close tonight, even if I hadn't already worked 8 hours today, would be against company policy as I am opening tomorrow, at 4:45 a.m., which is considerably less than six hours after closing shift ends tonight at 11:30 p.m. Company policy.
I have no idea who is closing tonight but it isn't me.
Didn't call back as it had been several hours, and I figured they had had time to maybe...I dunno...TALK TO EACH OTHER and figure out that it was NOT MY PROBLEM, and come up with someone else to cover if my one possible person couldn't.
If they have a problem with this, they can get over it. After a few more hours of sleep tonight, I WILL be there in the morning to open.

Well, when I got there this morning, I looked in the folder to see who had closed, and it was someone from the department over the fuel center, and I know he's someone who knows well how to run the fuel center. No worries there. The only thing he hadn't done was to enter the fuel delivery into the computer. I took care of that and went out to run the fuel center. I went into the store, at the end of my shift, as usual, to clock out. NOTHING HAPPENED. But then, the co-manager who had "NEEDED" me to come back and close didn't seem to be there, and the co-manager with whom I had discussed the fact that I had no one to cover that shift was busy and didn't seem interested in stopping me. She may not even know that the other one tried to get me to come in, and I really don't care. My intention was (and will remain) to say nothing unless someone else brings it up. That co-manager who called me made a mistake. I refused to play the game, and that should be that.

Oh, lordie, if she had tried to run the fuel center I'd have come in to a disaster in the morning. LOL. I don't think she was actually worried about being stuck with it herself but was just trying to guilt or trick me into taking care of management's problem so they wouldn't have to.

That was a big NOPE wasn't it?

J and I are supposed to have dinner this evening with friends at a Persian restaurant. Should be fun. I haven't eaten at a Persian restaurant in years and years.

Oh well, speaking of eating, I need to and I'm sure Lilo agrees.

    Hi Again
Another warm day today, the extended weather forecast shows a chance of spotty thunderstorms for most of the days and they all have overnight lows in the 70s :(
OK I took a look and the nearest Persian eatery is a 10+ minute drive and just like the nearby Thai restaurant it is closed on Mondays. If I remember to do so I might try it. Do You have any suggestions for Non Spicy AKA Not Hot meals I should look at? I would prefer something not to starchy too.

    Thank You
    Roger

Actually they should let you specify the spicy heat level for most of the dishes. As for carbs...well, I'd recommend starting with a salad. I love hummus and felafel as starters too, but they are high in carbs. Mostly GOOD carbs though. The problem is they are usually eaten with bread, which kind of blows the carbs sky high. The salad probably will come with bread too, but again, you can choose how much of that you eat.

Most main dishes are served with rice, but you can control how much of the rice you actually eat. Any of the kebabs or perhaps lamb shank if your restaurant has it. If lamb shank is done right, it can be heavenly!

There is also a vegetable stew that is usually good. I've been trying to get J to try it for years but for some reason he is wary of the butternut squash or sweet potato often found in middle eastern stews, though I find them to be delicious.

    Hi
It was slightly better out when I left to walk despite going out the door somewhat later than the last two days + 6200 steps. I left somewhat later due to planning to stop at the Supermarket AKA Grocery Store for Fruits.

I picked up five Bananas one of which I left out for tomorrow and the other ones went in the Refrigerator along with four Red Delicious Apples at 79 Cents a pound, 2 Green Pears, and two Navel Oranges and what they charge as Mexican Bread which can actually be large Sugared Donuts, Different Colored Sweet breads or some flakey Pastries which is what I picked with a lemon looking fruit filling to be my Afternoon Snack.

    Have a Great Weekend
    Roger

If it's a Mexican pastry, that lemon looking fruit filling is probably just as likely to be pineapple, as they really love to use that in pastries. Either way, it should be tasty and shouldn't be a problem unless you are allergic to pineapple.

Persian restaurant trip was a total failure, at least as far as eating any Persian food. We made it to friend's house, where we shared wine and brie and thin (VERY thin) black pepper crackers. While waiting for the last person to arrive (she was running late), the hostess tried to call the restaurant and see if being maybe 15 to 30 minutes late for the reservation would be a problem. No answer. She let it ring maybe 45 times! We finished the first bottle of wine and the hostess opened the hostess gift I had brought, which was, naturally, a bottle of wine! We drank about half of that one waiting. She'll have the other half herself, later. She really liked the wine I bought. It was one of the best wines I have on hand.

It was storming so we thought perhaps the power was out at the restaurant, and tried again after a while. Got a message that the number wasn't currently accepting calls. Still, we hoped for the best, and just as we were going to head out anyway (J was going to wait in his car to lead latecomer there) latecomer showed up. We all headed on to the restaurant to find that the power was, indeed, out and they were turning away customers. We drove to a (not too close) Italian restaurant and found the same issue. Finally ended up going to an old standby we knew was good, and were glad to find that they, at least, had power. They also had a crowd. We suspect they got a LOT of overflow from powerless restaurants, but they did have a table available for us. Service was not up to our usual there, but considering the circumstances, we let that slide somewhat. So J had home made potato chips, pimento cheese, and parmesan toast rounds. I had chopped steak, mashed potatoes, and curly kale. Nothing Persian about any of that, but by that time we just wanted to eat and be done with it really! As we left, after a long...slow...meal, the place was still a total zoo, stuffed with people, but the restaurant staff was coping as best they could.

We'll have to plan to try the Persian restaurant another night. Oh well...

Yep Ed, that's exactly right! :) Never assume, never made into a *kitten*...thought kitten was an interesting way to say donkey!!! LOL!!! Or should that be donkey-ish!!!
I'm celebrating a personal victory today. Accidentally happened upon a recipe to make vegan pimento cheese sauce. It just sounded 'right' so I actually went to the store to get a little jar of pimento! And it is delicious... every good as what I get as an appetizer that I like when I'm at R Thomas...it wasn't quite as thick as his, but that's just a matter of adding less water...and because it was a sauce it was really Gr.r.rate on my steamed cauliflower! Happy Dance happened here today!

Roger, I found a very interesting Q&A about 'critter' damage in the garden, how to I.D., and also some suggestions about what to do about the problem. The web site is: A way to Garden.com. I get Margarets news letter, so it showed up in my inbox today...I believe it is also available as a pod cast...which might keep you company on a morning walk. Hope you take a look, and that its helpful.

    Later...

It wouldn't let me say A** even though that's not a dirty word! Changing it to "kitten" rather than donkey though seems rather extreme...one wonders what it would change an actually "dirty" word to, as well as just what words are considered "dirty"...

Yay for vegan pimento cheese sauce!

Howdy again y'all. It's bedtime for Bonzo, me and Lilo.

D has been away for a short while but is coming back tonight. J has a 15 year old cousin visiting. For lunch I made cheeseburgers and fries. She liked that. For dinner/supper I made J's favorite spicy cheesy hash brown casserole, sliced tomatoes, steamed, lightly buttered broccoli, seasoned with salt and pepper, steamed, lightly buttered green beans, seasoned with salt and pepper, and she had an ultimate chocolate chunk cookie for dessert. What can I say? We overbaked at work... She doesn't like broccoli but she liked MY broccoli. Apparently she's never really had properly cooked broccoli. She even sent pictures to her mother so her mother, who was astonished, could see her eating broccoli.

So far her visit is going well. I'll continue to try to feed her suitable foods.

    G'night all!

Speaking of toad stranglers, we're having one right now! Started thundering as I was preparing dinner. Last night's leftovers for me, cheeseburgers and lightly salted wavy chips for everyone else. Got to fold the towels and whites in a minute.

I did encounter that co-manager today. Not a word was spoken about last Thursday, as expected. I figured by now she had found out from someone else that I had already spoken to one of the other co-managers that day and they already knew I had no one to cover the shift, and in any case, they couldn't legally ask me to come back to close (less than 6 hours between morning shift end and closing shift start) and expect anyone to open the next morning (less than 6 hours between closing shift and morning opening). ;)

Glad for the rain we're getting, but could do without the thunder. Laundry should be about ready to fold, so off to the laundry room!

Tag day wasn't TOO bad. There was a bit of outdoor tagging but I got it all done in one round, changing 4 tags at each of 7 pump sets to make 14 pumps updated with 28 tags.

Indoor tagging was light. It wasn't hot out this morning but it was terribly sticky after last night's storm, which also got water into most of the spill buckets at the gasoline fill points, and I had to siphon some and soak some up with pads.

Today is the first anniversary of our courthouse wedding, and I decided it was just too darn hot to cook, so I bought some potato salad, boiled eggs, cheese and pimentos and we had a cold lunch of potato salad, egg salad, pimento salad, stuffed olives (already in the fridge), and yellow grape tomatoes.

I felt stuffed from it, that's for sure.

Might be most of dinner too. We'll see...

    Nap time!

    I'll take the latter, please.

Woke up this morning to find that J and cousin had "cleaned off" the table and put all my bananas together in the fruit dish, not considering that there might have been a REASON they weren't already physically close together in the fruit dish...though I'm pretty sure I told J why I separate them. He may have forgotten. Don't know how long they were together or how much extra ripening they did while together.

The holes where they fill the tanks during a gas delivery are two or three feet deep, with heavy (but not totally watertight) metal covers. They are called spill buckets because sometimes a little gas will spill into them during the process of filling the tanks from the big truck. A heavy rain will inevitably get some water into some of them as the water flows across the pavement. Morning shift is supposed to check and clean them every morning to keep them clear of spills, water, and debris. If they have fuel in them, we have to soak that up with pads, treat the pads with a fuel neutralizing solution, and then dispose of them. If it's just water, like after a storm, we can siphon most of it out and soak up whatever is left.

This morning had some water, and one had some spillage from the overnight delivery. Took care of that, no problem.

Loved the pictures, especially the squirrel in the bird feeder.————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! We got some nice rain yesterday. Today is supposed to be 94 with 20% chance, as usual.

    Off to the salt races!

Howdy again y'all. We had hoped to have dinner out tonight, but J was really worn out so we decided to stay home. J is having Noodles Eduardo, using some of the Kluski noodles made for the rest of us. Since cousin D is still here, and roommate D is home too, I made chicken Marsala for the rest of us, served over Kluski noodles with organic, steamed, lightly buttered, green beans on the side.

Opened a bottle of Tempranillo to complete the meal.
