Howdy again y'all. A much more strenuous Tuesday than anticipated. Last night the closer apparently called in (at least I hope he did) as someone else closed. Trash wasn't picked up, as the closer is suppose to do that and the person the store sent out wasn't out there until late, and the middle shift person needed to get out to his full time job. So guess who got to collect the garbage first thing this morning? I rolled it in to the compacter when middle shift guy got in today. Meanwhile, they decided to reset the tobacco racks today, which meant it was getting really cramped in the kiosk with both of us in the same end, as that is where all the tobacco products are, for convenience.
And now we all get to learn all over again where the tobacco products are as the guy was rearranging EVERYTHING. 2 1/2 years and it's all been in pretty much in the same spot...this will be fun.
But, tonight's closer is starting the training for the newest new guy. We'll finish training him later in the week, and get him into the regular schedule next week. He's supposedly worked for Kroger before so should know at least part of the drill, if not all the fuel center stuff.
After my nap I finally folded the second load of the weekend laundry, after a refresher run in the dryer. Dinner was a frozen meatloaf and mashed potato, from Boston Market. Not bad, but I definitely could have made better...
Finishing off my wine now and waiting for J to get home. He's got some Asian restaurant leftovers from his dinner last night to eat.
Val, your mention of tofu in barbecue sauce reminded me that I do have a box of tofu in there to play with and J loves it dry fried and then baked with my home made spicy barbecue sauce. Maybe an idea for later in the week.
Friday I am supposed to drive to Memphis, stay overnight, close out my Memphis credit union account and get all the money I've been stashing there (adding some automatically every month) so we can use it to cover some of the repairs to the Memphis house that we are supposed to be GETTING RID OF at the end of the month. Since that is my only major tie back to Memphis, won't need that account any more. I was occasionally using it when making trips, to cover the trip expenses, but shouldn't NEED to make trips to Memphis after we lose the house.

Tag day, so I hope the rain is light and/or there isn't much outdoor tagging to do.

Ed, glad I bumped your memory about the Tofu in your freezer for J! I did not dry fry mine, just used my little contraption to drain the tofu, and I would have been happier if I HAD done the dry fry as well. Also, how do you freeze your tofu? Unopened container, or drained and then frozen. I have frozen tofu, and I liked the results, but I had already cooked mine and then froze it. I think freezing improves the texture! OK, I went back to your post, and it did NOT say you had a block frozen...oops! Oh, well. BBQ'd Tofu is tasty.
Roger thanks for the Shoe cartoon. Made me laugh already today!
Yes, I could have gone to the bank...its about 10 miles from here, or I could go to the gym, work out, get notarized docs, and shop next door for the tomatoes, apple, and radishes..a mile away!!! ) She said she didn't want a fee, but, I told her to put it in an account for baby when it will be needed. (I think this will be a spring baby, and her first...excited for her)
Cats and I fed....time to take off for groceries...ummm I may want to get dressed first!!!! I love my nighty but maybe not everyone would!!
 Later...
Actually we HAVE done the frozen tofu thing by just freezing the whole package and then thawing when needed. It tends to give the tofu more texture, and J isn't always too thrilled by that as it makes it seem too meat-like sometimes.
But the package currently on hand is in the refrigerator.

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! According to last night's forecast (which hasn't been updated on the weather page yet) 90 today with 30% chance of precipitation.
Next new guy is supposed to be coming in today for his second bout of training, and his fourth will be on Saturday.
Still need to finish up with the tobacco reset. I have a lot of discontinued items to charge back to the store for return, and hope to be able to get that finished off this morning.

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! I noticed on my phone that I "missed" a call from Kroger at 3 minutes after 11 last night. But to be honest, I didn't miss it much. No message.
I guess the guy at work had some minor crisis and didn't think it through to realize that if I have to be there at 4:45 the next morning, I am NOT taking calls at 3 minutes after 11 at night. He's expected to deal with it and leave details in the log book. That's what it is there for, and whatever it is, even if the fuel center has exploded, there isn't really anything I can do to help as I'm not there.
The lotto machine won't print the daily report? I can print that in the morning, assuming it's working then, and if not, then we have until Saturday night to work on that and we can still go back and get any day of the week. The tank controller won't print its final of the day, or the gas delivery truck is there and you have to leave before he finishes? Log book.
Thank goodness my phone has the "do not disturb" feature that only J and my mother can punch through.
89 predicted for the high today with 20% chance of rain.

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday here in Memphis. I am here to code out my credit union account because we need the money and after we close (hopefully) at the end of this month, I will have no reason to return to Memphis as we will not have property here any more!
Right now I am eating this free (haha haha, really?) breakfast at the motel. At least there is a banana.
Then off to the credit union to be there at, or shortly before they open. And then back home to Georgia. J will be heading to Kentucky this afternoon to get some money there. We have had some stashed away in places where we might need ready cash but right now we need it to finish the repairs we promised the buyer. I just sent a check for a large sum to our agent to cover a portion but we are having to clean pretty much everything out. We should be able to put it back after closing, we hope. My Memphis money will go back into a different account that I already took most of, since I won't have or need the account in Memphis any more.
Well, off to the credit union!

Howdy y'all, from Peachtree Corners, GA!
No real trouble getting my money out. The only minor snag was one I sort of expected, but it was easily resolved.
On Saturday, the credit union lobby is not open, only the drive through. There are three lanes. Lane 1 is at the building itself, with the big window, and ALSO, right after the window, has the ATM.
Lane 1 is generally not open for business as anyone doing business there blocks drive up access to the ATM, which I think they really should have put on the other side of the building, but no one asked me for my opinion on that.
Lanes 2 and 3 were open, so I got in line and finally to the front, where I said I needed to close my account. Response? "You can't close an account through the window."
Not really unexpected, but then I explained why I had to do that, since I couldn't possibly be there on a weekday to come in and take care of that in the lobby, as I live 400 miles away and work Monday through Friday. And mentioned that I had made a special trip, 400 miles, just to take care of that.
Rather than standing on policy, the teller told me to drive around to Lane 1, took my ID and my bank card, ran me a cashier's check for the full amount in the account, and I signed that I had received the money and then I was on my merry way back home to Georgia! Thank goodness for hiring people with sense enough to work things out and find a way to take care of things.
Been something of a rough two days, what with driving over 800 miles in two days, and spending the night in a cheap, but not sleazy, motel.
I'm ordering in tonight. Should feed me for three or four meals.

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! Been up since about 5:20, got Lilo fed, me fed, wasted time on the internet, pondering laundry and indoor watering.
The sugar baby watermelon I got in a CSA box two weeks ago is delicious and part of it was part of my breakfast.
What's left now may be part of lunch. We'll see...raw items from the cucurbits group seem to often repeat on me.
Supposed to be 92 today with 0% chance of rain! What happened to our 20% we almost always have this time of year? LOL.
Well, let me get this other upgrade to Linux started anyway.

If I had to guess just from the name I would have thought that cucurbits only referred to Cucumbers So I looked it up and what a interesting family. Is it all of them That may repeat on You? So I looked it up and what a interesting family. Is it all of them That may repeat on You?
Actual cucumbers are the worst. I love eating them, just don't love tasting them for the rest of the day. Even "burpless" varieties repeat on me. Watermelon depends on how ripe, how close to the rind, etc...and perhaps even which variety. I won't eat pickled watermelon rinds because they are nearly as bad as cucumbers, even if they ARE pickled. Pickled cucumbers don't tend to bother me but then one doesn't generally eat large quantities of that anyway.Did I ever mention that according to a local free Newspaper that New Jersey is the number four Peach growing state. True Georgia is ahead of us here. The top three according to Clemson are
California (#1), South Carolina (#2), and Georgia (#3) followed by NJ
And I'll bet You know this, From NBC News in 2013:
What is the most valuable fruit crop produced in the Peach State?
This is not a trick question, but you may want to pause a second before answering.
 Ready? It's the blueberry.
Well, I grow blueberries but not peaches. And those other states may be bigger peach growers, but Georgia, and Atlanta area in particular are probably the biggest at using PEACHTREE in names. Having said that, I believe the original Peachtree Accounting software was actually developed by a group in Chicago, Illinois.Just curious, are You changing to Linux or just upgrading it ? And which Distribution are You using? And those other states may be bigger peach growers, but Georgia, and Atlanta area in particular are probably the biggest at using PEACHTREE in names. I have a Older laptop that would be a perfect platform for a Linux Box I suspect. It has a Pentium 4 2.2Ghz, 1Gb of Memory and a 120Gb hard Drive an a DVD Reader/CD Writer. FWIW the 1Gb is all it can support. It can run windows 7 32 bit as it is a 32 bit CPU. It being this one a Sager 5600 that I picked up in trade years ago. 1024MB PC2100 DDR Memory, UXGA (1600 × 1200) TFT Active Matrix LCD Display w/ ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 w/ 64MB, Combo 8X DVD/16×10×24 CD-RW.
 Any Thoughts?
 Have a Nice Day
 Roger
I have one Dell mini-laptop that I run Linux on, and one virtual machine on my Macbook. Both run Ubuntu. Simply because of the resources available to both, they don't run super fast. The Dell just doesn't have a lot, and I'm not allocating all that much to the virtual machine as my Macbook is my main computer and I'd rather leave most of the resources available to the Macbook itself. I'd say that older laptop would probably work well for Linux. You'd need to download and burn a Linux installation boot CD but that's not too difficult to do.
I like Ubuntu. I think J may be running Redhat on our main server in the computer closet.

Howdy again y'all. Didn't get as much nap as I'd have liked because I had to go and, reluctantly, give blood to the vampire at the doctor's office.
The vampire...er, technician, suggested I go home and hydrate and eat protein to rebuild blood.
Tonight's home made, Middle Eastern spiced, butternut squash soup with chicken was a good start. Jalapeño garlic toast on the side. The chicken in the soup was left over from yesterday's kabob lunch plate.
Since I made a rather special soup, I opened one of my TREASURE bottles of wine: Empyrean Cygnus Syrah, 2005, Yakima Valley. Very NICE. I drank half the bottle, and will finish it tomorrow (with the leftover soup!) and have one bottle left of this one. I may have to see if my pusher...er, supplier has some more.
Also drank a liter of water with dinner. I think we're good...
But I also think I am feeding the sugar gliders and cats and heading to bed.
 G'night all!

Howdy again y'all. Finished off my soup and wine for dinner. I'm sure they drew no more than about half a cup, but it always looks like more. OK, maybe it WAS a little bit more, but only enough to clone me several times over. I know why they take that much, but it's still annoying.
I didn't really watch to see, I was distracted by something.
The REAL vampire was the attendant at the parking garage, but he was just doing his job. LOL.
There was a significant amount of outdoor tagging today, and it was nearly 3 hours before I felt all caught up on everything I needed to do out there for "first thing in the morning" stuff...all of it's supposed to be done FIRST THING, but of course one person can't possibly do ALL of it FIRST THING so it gets done as I can, and I try to prioritize to get the most awkward, time consuming things done before it gets very busy.
Enough rambling. Lilo wants some attention.

We DID get some thunder and rain this evening, right as I was preparing dinner, with lights flickering and the whole shebang! I was afraid I'd have half cooked dinner, but no problems.
Tonight was one of those "wander and wonder" nights. Wander into the kitchen and wonder what the heck you're gonna make since you didn't really plan anything or set anything out to thaw.
I dug through the freezer and found a nice package of thin sliced, boneless pork chops, so put them in the microwave to thaw. Then I pulled that half bottle of Marsala wine out of the bar area, and grabbed a couple of ears of corn, some garlic, and some mushrooms.
Ended up with a nice dinner of pork Marsala, over mashed potatoes, with steamed, lightly buttered, bicolor sweet corn, and sliced tomato on the side. Opened a bottle of wine from the winery up the highway a bit, and dug in. And there are plenty of leftovers too!
D had a small plate of it, but declined any seconds, but at least he ate one thin sliced chop, some potatoes, and some of the corn. He ate around the mushrooms as he really doesn't care for large chunks or slices of mushroom. I think he's insane in that way, as I love mushrooms, but that's OK. At least he doesn't turn down food with mushrooms any more, as he used to. I've made it clear that I am NOT altering any of my preparations to omit mushrooms or have them only on the side. He can eat it the way I make it, eating around them, or just get something on his own. He has sensibly decided to, usually, eat what I make if it's otherwise not offensive to him.

I did go to gymnastics, it took an hour to go 12 miles. That's disgusting. But, I noticed a little hole in the wall appearing Chinese restaurant about a quarter mile from O's gym...hmmm. I'll try it hopefully next week, and if it doesn't appear to make me sick or kill me, I may just become their 'Thurs. nite regular'! It would beat sitting endlessly in long lines of traffic waiting for stop lights to go green. Sitting thru a light twice is not so horrible, but when it becomes 3 or more...I tend to want to become homicidal! Especially after about the 3rd such light. My agenda is pretty open today....we'll see what I end up doing!

Wow You got a Blazing 12 MPH on that trip, Could You stand the thrill?
From what my brother has said some of the best meals he has had on vacations with the family were in little hole in the wall looking eateries that they found when all the better looking ones had long lines and I'm sure You know how kids are about standing in line waiting when they hungry.
I do something similar with a Diner when I walk over for my haircut. I have a light breakfast and comfort stop with a Decaf to drink on the return trip after having my haircut. since the outbound walk to the barbershop is 2/3 of my regular walk distance (steps) I sort of need the rest stop and nutrients as otherwise I would be late on my breakfast

Not a problem I the picture came up and it seems as if You got a decent BBQ.
I suspect he was getting frustrated struggling with the register and all.
Congratulations on getting it out of the car and assembled too. BTW if it were mine once the tank of fuel was hooked up I would go over every connection with a soapy solution to be sure there are no leaks. I mention that as one year my brother had a pretty large ball of fire from a leaky connection that developed over time.
I use a soapy solution to find the gas leak on the furnace so I could get it fixed. They wanted money to find t he leak over and beyond the repair price.
As You say little do they know
Have a Nice Day and I hope You enjoy Your new Cooker

            Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday!
Pool party had a few quick showers but went well. The burgers were magnificent and juicy.
D even went this time, though he foolishly stopped on the way and got lunch, so didn't eat much at the party.
This morning I microwaved my two severely trimmed ears of corn received in Friday's CSA box. I left a "contact us" note at the site letting them know that I was NOT HAPPY with the fact that they had cut an inch to an inch and a half off of each ear, at the tassel end. This left the ends completely uncovered, as the ears weren't wrapped in any way after cutting, and i have NO idea how clean the knife was, and it also basically stole several good bites of corn from me. I have NEVER received my ears of corn pre-trimmed from them before and hope to never receive them that way again. I don't generally shuck my corn or clean it before cooking, as I place the cobs in the microwave, whole, shucks and silks in place and undisturbed. I asked if it would be too much trouble to let me, the consumer and customer, decide whether, and how much, to trim my vegetables rather than someone deciding that for me. They better refund me for the corn, since they stole some of it.
I still cooked these in the microwave, trusting that the microwave would kill any germs on the cut surfaces, and we'll still eat this corn, but there is not as much of it as there should have been.
Need to do laundry later but might go back to bed for a while. I had leftover pizza and freshly cut "orange fleshed melon" from the CSA box for breakfast. I only ordered it to see if it was anything different from a cantaloupe, but it isn't. I also have a honeydew in there to cut up eventually.
 Later, gators!

I suppose if I were worried about the Knife cut I would have trimmed a bit more off of the end, Did You take pictures to send them?
My Brother Shucks the Corn and wraps it in Saran Wrap with a little Butter to taste.
Why eat on the way to a BBQ? Unless You were afraid there would be nothing there You could eat
FWIW We eat leftover Pizza at Room Temperature. My Brother often takes some up to his bedroom when retiring in case he wakes up hungry in the night
 Have a Nice Sunday

Ed, is your CSA box organic? If so, I'm guessing their later crop of corn got those corn worms, they are always found at the tassel end...I think if that was the problem, you can be glad that they cut the ends off...think about it. I've cooked my corn that way before it works....and I may have to again, as COSTCO has stopped carrying the sheets of deli paper I wrap my shucked ears of corn in...(in the Mic)... This old farm girl, always, without doubt or hesitation pulls a small section of husk and silks while still in the store...looking to see there isn't any extra protein in there! Glad the party went well, and wasn't rained out...it never actually rained here, but all of a sudden it would go dark, and thunder, and I could SMELL the rain, so I know it was near...but not at my house. Oh, well. Weather person said we're 5 inches short on rain since January. I know the lake is down, just mercifully not like it was 7 years ago...was it really 7 years ago? Livy was a little tyke, and she's 12 now...so I'm guessing thats when it happened. I don't remember if you were here then? Our water supply for all of ATL comes out of Lake Lanier, and we were running less than a week reserve....and that's after they lowered the water outlet pipes to make them deeper. Roger....I admit I was pretty proud of myself for getting the grill out of the car, and re-asembled! All parts accounted for and in the right place....now about that soapy water...
Your Brother and I have a LOT in common besides shopping I see!! I had a gas grill in TN, burned every d@mn thing I ever put on it....no joke. I was a real 'briquette manufacturing plant" But, it was all meat...you know hot dogs, hamburgers (black outside, raw/cold innards...anyhow, the day came, and I ran out of gas....soooo I took the tank to be filled, and I reattached it! Forgot about the soapy water part, which was inexcusable since I grew up in a house with propane tank in the side yard....... and I lit the grill, went in the house to get something, looked out the window and I had a fire ball outside. The deck was on the second story of the house, and that's where the grill was, just outside the kitchen. OMG!! Scared the heck out of me. My Dad, bless him, he meant well, but he used silicone tape on the connection at the tank.....it worked fine after he went back to MO...but when I changed the tank, not so good!....I called my gas utility, and a very nice lady explained to me why you can't use anything on those connections, and told me I'd have to scrape every last bit of that out of the screw threads....was that ever a job!! SO, lesson learned the hard way, but remembered to this day!
OK, I've spot cleaned the living room carpet, and am 'banished' from the back of the house, except to fix my breakfast. Lucky for me, the Keurig is in the bar and not in the kitchen
Oh...its getting light out, and I can still see a very bright moon thru the trees to the West!
Hope everybody has a good day...Ed, get some rest, and Roger hope you're having a good walk this morning.
 Later...
 Hi Valerie
Have You considered using Parchment Paper? it is one of the things my brother uses in some of his baking as it seems to be Oven ready and therefore should work in the Microwave too.
I do remember seeing the reports on the water situation in Atlanta back then on the TV news reports. My brother also wondered why they did not have at least one more reservoir
You and he were both lucky it was not worse. I think I would have used a Stiff brush or a wire brush on the thread, However that would be a patience thing
My walk was OK, I took a somewhat different route back home and that was where I found that beat up penny in the street in front of a gas station driveway.
last night we watched Diners Drive-ins and Dives and they did a visit to the Marietta Diner
 http://www.mariettadiner.com/
 and the Silver Skillet Restaurant

They Liked Both, I was Wondering if either You or Ed had eaten at either of them and therefore could give feedback on how accurate the show is?
 Have a Great Day

I have eaten several times at the Marietta Diner. The food is good, and you get plenty of it, but then you NEED plenty of it since one generally has to wait an hour or more to get in, so if you were already hungry... Yes, it's THAT popular. I've never heard of The Silver Skillet. Will have to look at that one.GardenKatGardens wrote: »Good Morning!

My CSA box is organic. If they did, indeed, need to trim for worms, then they should have sent an extra ear to make up for the trimming, or advertised the corn as being trimmed. When I see "two" ears listed, I expect to receive two whole ears, or the equivalent. Had I known in advance that it was going to be trimmed, I would have either ordered more (which would have to have been 4 ears) or simply ordered something else.
Aside from the trimming this time, we've really been enjoying this bicolor sweet corn all summer. Very sweet and tender.
As we had that morning thing in Jasper/Big Canoe yesterday, we drove over the lake on the way to the barbecue. It looked pretty good, overall, and people were definitely out and enjoying it. I have certainly seen it a LOT lower.
Well, first load of laundry is nearly ready for the dryer and the east Indian spiced roasted potatoes and cauliflower that I made for our lunch (I'll microwave a little bacon for my protein) are nearly done.
 Later, gators!

            Hi
Woo Hoo, It was in the 60s this morning, Well barely, 69.7 Degrees to be exact. Yesterday I ended up at 10.5K + Steps, Today I have done 7.6K Steps + No cents. Cooler weather is forecast for Monday through Wednesday, with overnight lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s which will be the coolest in a while.
We have had at least 10 Eggplants off of the two plants and there is at least one more ready to pick and another small one growing on the one plant at first glance. The other plant is semi hidden by the Blooming Sweet Potato plants, Yup they are in bloom and looking just like large Morning Glories. Right Now there is a Twin Eggplant parm in the freezer for later once the fresh ones are done. For now my Brother is Using them as well as handing them out to neighbors on both sides of us. We left the other one along with the Baked beans, Pastrami leftovers behind when we returned home. That was the plan and was our contribution. Those Peter Luger Hamburgers were expensive too, I saw the price label.Luger-Burger, Over 1/2 lb., on a Bun
with French Fries and/or Cheese & Bacon
 Served Daily Until 3:45 PM
 http://peterluger.com/brooklyn-menu/
Our SunChokes are still not in bloom.
The Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), also called sunroot, sunchoke, earth apple or topinambour, is a species of sunflower native to eastern North America
And they should be blooming with Sunflower type blooms
They look healthy enough are almost up to the Gutters, Approximately 8 foot tall currently
 Have a Great Week
